Fertile Transgenic Indica Rice Produced by Expression of Maize Ubiquitin Promoter-bar Chimaeric Gene in the Protoplasts

We report production of fertile transgenic Indica rice plants by transferring a chimaeric construct consisting of promoter, first exon and intron of maize ubiquitin gene (Ubi-1) and the coding sequences of the bar gene from Streptomyces hygroscopicus to the rice protoplasts through electroporation. In total, 11 plants were regenerated. All of them were fertile and set seeds on maturity. These plants were resistant to high concentration of PPT (400 mg l^?1) which was otherwise toxic to the untransformed controls. The gene was inherited to the progenies of the five plants in Mendelian ratio.     

Axial loading induces rotation of the proximal carpal row bones around unique screw-displacement axes

The changes in carpal bone alignment secondary to the aplication of an axial compressive load through the major wrist motor tendons while the wrist is kept in neutral position (isometric loading) have been investigated on 13 fresh cadaver specimens using a biplanar radiographic method of kinematic analysis. The scaphoid, lunate and triquetrum rotate an average of 5.1, 4.2 and 3.8°, respectively, around different ‘screw displacement axes’, all implying flexion, radial deviation and supination. Based on these findings, a new interpretation of the mechanism by which the wrist remains stable under physiologic loads is provided.

利用聚合酶链式反应技术,从真养产碱杆菌Ａｌｃａｌｉｇｅｎｅｓ ｅｕｔｒｏｐｈｕｓ Ｈ１６染色体ＤＮＡ中的主增并克隆了调控聚－β－羧基丁酸生物合成的两个关键酶基因;依赖ＮＡＤＰＨ的乙酰乙酰ＣｏＡ还原酶基因和ＰＨＢ合成酶基因。限制性内切酶图谱和核苷酸序列分析证实了克隆结果,并表明所克隆的基因与国外报道的有很高的同源性。

本文报道了甘肃莲花山及其邻近地区的大型真茵１１７种,根据Ａｉｎｓｗｏｒｔｈ,Ｇ．Ｃ．系统（１９７３）,隶属于６０屑,２６科,２亚门,其中食用菌７０种,药用菌３７种,毒蘑菇２３种,菌根菌２４种,甘肃分布新纪录５０种。     

Changes in cytoplasmic and lysosomal enzyme activities in cultured rat heart cells: The relationship to cell differentiation and cell population in culture

Summary Postnatal rat heart cells in culture enriched with respect to muscle cells were obtained by either high density seeding or by the replating technique. [³H]Thymidine incorporation to DNA and the enzymatic pattern of cytoplasmic and lysosomal enzymes have been studied as a function of the culture’s age, of seeding density, and replating. It was shown that (a) replating maintains predominance of myocyte population for at least 2 wk in culture; (b) heavy seeding density allows homogeneous myocyte population for the 1st wk in culture; and (c) the enzyme profile of the culture may serve as an indicator for the type of cell population in culture and its state of differentiation. This study was done as partial fulfilment of the M.Sc. thesis in Biochemistry (SY). Deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis and deoxyribonucleic acid-polymerase activity during early germination of wheat embryos at high and low viability

³H-thymidine incorporation and DNA-polymerase activity during early hours of wheat embryo germination at two viability levels have been studied. The patterns of two biosynthetic activities, as well as the dependence of DNA synthesis on protein synthesis, indicated the presence of a delay in the early phase of imbibition of the aged embryos with respect to viable germs.     

Surface-decontaminating action of glutaraldehyde in the gas-aerosol phase.

The surface disinfectant effect of glutaraldehyde in the gas-aerosol phase was investigated at different relative humidities and temperatures. At a gas-aerosol concentration of 15 to 20 mg/m3 and a relative humidity of about 80%, glutaraldehyde had a good disinfectant effect against both vegetative bacteria (decimal reduction time, less than 5 min) and bacterial spores (decimal reduction time, less than 45 min). In spite of its low volatility, glutaraldehyde was more effective than formaldehyde when the two substances were compared on an "added amount" basis.
