Biodiversity of lactic acid bacteria in Moroccan soft white cheese (Jben)   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
The bacterial diversity occurring in traditional Moroccan soft white cheese, produced in eight different regions in Morocco, was studied. A total of 164 lactic acid bacteria were isolated, purified and identified by whole-cell protein fingerprinting and rep-PCR genomic fingerprinting. The majority of the strains belonged to the genera Lactobacillus, Lactococcus, Leuconostoc and Enterococcus. Sixteen species were identified: Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus paracasei, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus buchneri, Lactococcus lactis, Lactococcus garvieae, Lactococcus raffinolactis, Leuconostoc pseudomesenteroides, Leuconostoc mesenteroides, Leuconostoc citreum, Eterococcus durans, Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus faecium, Enterococcus saccharominimus and Streptococcus sp.  相似文献

Cardiovascular disease accounts for significant morbidity and mortality in the elderly. The clinical trial data available to guide therapy in this growing population subset are relatively limited. This review will focus on treatment approaches and recommendations obtained from subgroup analyses of elderly patients from major clinical trials for the management of chronic stable angina, acute coronary syndromes (unstable angina and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction), and coronary revascularization. Recent advances in the treatment of stable angina have shown that use of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and lipid-lowering therapy as adjunctive measures show benefit in the elderly by reducing the occurrence of death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, and unstable angina. However, if patients experience disabling or unstable anginal symptoms despite effective medical therapy, coronary revascularization must be considered. Several clinical trials have shown a significant reduction in major adverse cardiac events when using intravenous glycoprotein receptor antagonists periprocedurally during percutaneous revascularization approaches in elderly patients with unstable angina or non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, especially when these measures are performed as soon as possible. However, the success of myocardial revascularization by a percutaneous or surgical approach is highly dependent on the patient's associated comorbidities, especially in patients over age 80 years.  相似文献

Apoptosis of pancreatic beta cells is implicated in the onset of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Consequently, strategies aimed at increasing the resistance of beta cells toward apoptosis could be beneficial in the treatment of diabetes. RasGAP, a regulator of Ras and Rho GTPases, is an atypical caspase substrate, since it inhibits, rather than favors, apoptosis when it is partially cleaved by caspase-3 at position 455. The antiapoptotic signal generated by the partial processing of RasGAP is mediated by the N-terminal fragment (fragment N) in a Ras-phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-Akt-dependent, but NF-kappaB-independent, manner. Further cleavage of fragment N at position 157 abrogates its antiapoptotic properties. Here we demonstrate that an uncleavable form of fragment N activates Akt, represses NF-kappaB activity, and protects the conditionally immortalized pancreatic insulinoma betaTC-tet cell line against various insults, including exposure to genotoxins, trophic support withdrawal, and incubation with inflammatory cytokines. Fragment N also induced Akt activity and protection against cytokine-induced apoptosis in primary pancreatic islet cells. Fragment N did not alter insulin cell content and insulin secretion in response to glucose. These data indicate that fragment N protects beta cells without affecting their function. The pathways regulated by fragment N are therefore promising targets for antidiabetogenic therapy.  相似文献

The basis of right- vs. left-hand-use preference in humans has been debated for a long time. Culturally learned, birth stress, and biologically specified causes are the prominent etiologies under consideration. A 2003 (Klar 2003) study reported a correlation between a person's preferred hand and the scalp hair-whorl orientation developed on the head. By reinterpreting results of a 1927 (Schwarzburg 1927) study on the genetics of the hair-whorl trait, support for a recent single gene, two-allele "random-recessive model" for both hair-whorl orientation and handedness trait inheritance is demonstrated.  相似文献

The causes of schizophrenia and bipolar human psychiatric disorders are unknown. A novel somatic cell genetic model postulated nonrandom segregation of "Watson" vs. "Crick" DNA chains of both copies of a chromosome to specific daughter cells. Such an oriented asymmetric cell division causes development of healthy, functionally nonequivalent brain hemispheres. Genetic translocations of the chromosome may cause disease by disrupting the biased strand-segregation process. Only one-half of chromosome 1 and 11 translocation carriers developing disease were recently explained as a result consistent with the model (Klar 2002). Is chromosome 1 or 11 involved? Does the translocation breakpoint cause disease? Remarkably, two other unrelated chromosome 11 translocations discovered from the literature likewise caused disease in approximately 50% of carriers. Together, their breakpoints lie at three distinct regions spanning approximately 40% of chromosome 11. Thus, chromosome 11 is implicated but the breakpoints themselves are unlikely to cause the disease. The results suggest that the genetically caused disease develops without a Mendelian gene mutation.  相似文献

Dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) of the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi (T. cruzi) is a potential target for developing drugs to treat Chagas’ disease. We have undertaken a detailed structure–activity study of this enzyme. We report here synthesis and characterization of six potent inhibitors of the parasitic enzyme. Inhibitory activity of each compound was determined against T. cruzi and human DHFR. One of these compounds, ethyl 4-(5-[(2,4-diamino-6-quinazolinyl)methyl]amino-2-methoxyphenoxy)butanoate (6b) was co-crystallized with the bifunctional dihydrofolate reductase-thymidylate synthase enzyme of T. cruzi and the crystal structure of the ternary enzyme:cofactor:inhibitor complex was determined. Molecular docking was used to analyze the potential interactions of all inhibitors with T. cruzi DHFR and human DHFR. Inhibitory activities of these compounds are discussed in the light of enzyme–ligand interactions. Binding affinities of each inhibitor for the respective enzymes were calculated based on the experimental or docked binding mode. An estimated 60–70% of the total binding energy is contributed by the 2,4-diaminoquinazoline scaffold.  相似文献
