An ethnopharmacological survey showed that home remedies prepared with flowers and fruits ofPsychotria colorata are used by Amazonian peasants as pain killers. Psychopharmacological in vivo evaluation of alkaloids obtained from leaves and flowers of this species showed a marked dose-dependent naloxone-reversible analgesic activity, therefore suggesting an opioid-like pharmacological profile. This paper reports an inhibitory effect ofP. colorata flower alkaloids on [3H]naloxone binding in rat striata as well as a decrease in adenylate cyclase basal activity. The alkaloids did not affect [3H] GMP-PNP binding. These findings provide a neurochemical basis for the opioid-like activity previously detected in vivo and point toPsychotria alkaloids as a potential source of new bioactive opiate derivatives.  相似文献

Most extant New World marsupials belong in the Didelphidae, which comprises ca. 110 currently recognized species of opossums. Didelphids are small mammals with their mean body mass, at species level, ranging from ca. 7 g to 2.2 kg. The largest species belong in a single clade, while substantial variation remains scattered across the remaining groups. We seek out to explore the details of this mass variation in an evolutionary framework. To this end, we first reconstructed the phylogeny of didelphids based on an extensive, although fragmentary sample of sequences from ten genes. We recovered a fully resolved, highly robust phylogeny that tested and confirmed most previously reported groupings, providing a simultaneous depiction of phylogenetic relationships for 81 % of currently recognized species and all relevant supra-specific clades. As much as 69 % of total body mass variation in didelphids was explained by this phylogenetic hypothesis. Mapped on it, mass variation evolved as much as 6.8 kg of total changes, starting from a reconstructed ancestral body mass range of 22–33 g. No single, family-wide pattern was evident; in fact, the dominant pattern for mass variation was that of increases in body mass along a few successive branches, or phyletic giantism, followed by apomorphic nanism, i.e., decreases localized in single terminal branches. Phyletic trends indicated the persistence of gradual, directional changes along considerable spans of geological time and show that substantial variation of interest resides in this and perhaps most groups of small mammals.  相似文献

Fumonisins were first discovered in Fusarium verticillioides, a fungus associated to disease and asymptomatic infections in maize. Afterwards, other fungal taxa have been found to produce fumonisins. The entomopathogenic ascomycete Tolypocladium cylindrosporum has been isolated from soil and also as an endophyte from leaves of grasses. The objectives of this work were to determine the in vitro production of fumonisin B (FB) mycotoxins and the immunosuppressive compound cyclosporine A (CyA) in several strains of T. cylindrosporum, and to examine the effect of fungal virus infection and temperature in FB production. FB1 was detected in 30% of the strains, ranging from 0.16 to 5.52 μg cm?2 in solid media, and FB2 was detected in 78% of the strains, ranging from 0.764 to 40.92 μg cm?2. CyA was not detected in any strain. The mean FB2 concentration of the endophytic strain Tc37W was three times greater (p?<?0.05) than that of any other strain. Up to 34% more of FB2 was detected in strains infected by the virus TcV3 than in the corresponding virus-free versions. The effect of temperature on FB2 content was interactively significantly dependent on fungal strain and growth medium; in the YES medium, the FB2 of virus-infected strains Tc37-1V and Tc37W increased by 67 and 16%, respectively, at 26 °C as compared to 20 °C. The FB concentration in some fungal strains was similar to that in fungi associated to food and feed intoxications.  相似文献

A study was conducted with hypophysectomized hamsters to determine effects of administration of prolactin (PRL), luteinizing hormone (LH), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)-alone or in combination-on testicular PRL receptors and in vitro testosterone production. Hormonal injections commenced the second day after hypophysectomy, and hamsters were killed on Day 5, approximately 13 h after the last hormonal injection. PRL receptor numbers were reduced by hypophysectomy, and PRL administration alone lessened the extent of this decrease. By themselves, neither LH nor FSH affected PRL receptors, but a combination of PRL + FSH + LH produced the greatest effect on these receptors. Receptor affinity was only modestly affected by any treatments. In vitro testosterone synthesis was measured after addition of 0, 2, 10, and 50 mIU of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) to incubations of testicular tissue. Neither PRL nor FSH by themselves in vivo affected basal or hCG-stimulated testosterone production. However, PRL + FSH increased (p less than 0.05) the magnitude of the in vitro testosterone response to hCG, as well as the sensitivity of that response (slope of the dose-response curve). LH alone increased both basal and hCG-stimulated testosterone production. PRL + LH provided no additional increase in the magnitude of the testosterone response, but increased (p less than 0.05) the sensitivity. PRL + FSH + LH in vivo provided for the greatest sensitivity of the testosterone response to hCG.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Virginols A–C are three new withanolides containing an epoxylactol at the side chain. They were isolated from the aerial parts of Physalis virginiana Miller. Structures of these compounds were determined by analyses of their spectroscopic data, including 1D and 2D NMR. The structure of virginol A was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. The anti-inflammatory activity of virginols was evaluated in the TPA-induced ear mouse edema model.  相似文献

Enamel hypoplasias, deficiencies in enamel thickness resulting from disturbances during the secretory phase of enamel development, are generally believed to result from nonspecific metabolic and nutritional disruptions. However, data are scare on the prevalence and chronological distributions. of hypoplasias in populations experiencing mild to moderate malnutrition. The purpose of this article is to present baseline data on the prevalences and chronological distributions of enamel hypoplasias, by sex and for all deciduous and permanent anterior teeth, in 300 5 to 15-year-old rural Mexican children. Identification of hypoplasias was aided by comparison to a published standard (Federation Dentaire Internationale: Int. Dent. J. 32(2):159-167, 1982). The location of defects, by transverse sixths of tooth crowns, was used to construct distributions of defects by age at development. One or more hypoplasias were detected in 46.7% (95% CI = 40.9-52.5%) of children. Among the unworn and completely erupted teeth, the highest prevalence of defects was found on the permanent maxillary central incisors (44.4% with one or more hypoplasias), followed by the permanent maxillary canine (28.0%) and the remaining permanent teeth (26.2 to 22.2%) Only 6.1% of the completely erupted and unworn deciduous teeth were hypoplastic. The prevalence of enamel defects on the permanent teeth was up to tenfold greater than that found in studies of less marginal populations that used the FDI method. The prevalence of defects in transverse zones suggests a peak frequency of hypoplasias during the second and third years for the permanent teeth, corresponding to the age at weaning in this group. In the deciduous teeth, a smaller peak occurs between 30 and 40 weeks post gestation. The frequency of defects after three years of age is slightly higher in females than males, suggesting a sex difference in access to critical resources.  相似文献
