ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Chenopodium ambrosioides and Kielmeyera neglecta are plants traditionally used in Brazil to treat various infectious diseases. The study of the biological activities of these plants is of great importance for the detection of biologically active compounds. METHODS: Extracts from these plants were extracted with hexane (Hex), dichloromethane (DCM), ethyl acetate (EtOAc) and ethanol (EtOH) and assessed for their antimicrobial properties, bioactivity against Artemia salina Leach and antifungal action on the cell wall of Neurospora crassa. RESULTS: Extracts from C. ambrosioides (Hex, DCM and EtOH) and K. neglecta (EtOAc and EtOH) showed high bioactivity against A. salina (LD50 < 1000 ug/mL), which might be associated with cytotoxic activity against cancer cells. C. ambrosioides Hex and DCM showed specific activity against yeasts, highlighting the activity of hexanic extract against Candida krusei (MIC = 100 ug/mL). By comparing the inhibitory concentration of 50% growth (IC 50%) with the growth control, extracts from K. neglecta EtOAc and EtOH have shown activities against multidrug-resistant bacteria (Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 51299 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 43300), with IC 50% of 12.5 ug/mL The assay carried out on N. crassa allowed defining that extracts with antifungal activity do not have action through inhibition of cell wall synthesis. CONCLUSIONS: Generally speaking, extracts from C. ambrosioides and K. neglecta showed biological activities that have made the search for bioactive substances in these plants more attractive, illustrating the success of their use in the Brazilian folk medicine. 相似文献

We report the synthesis of chiral enantiopure polytopic bridging ligands, which may lead to the formation of metallosupramolecular polymers with zinc (II) as metal linker. We show that chiral C2‐symmetric bisoxazoline ligands are useful moieties to efficiently generate heterochiral complexes and thus polymeric entities. Temporal changes in allele frequencies are often assumed in studies addressing the history of populations affected by different anthropogenic and natural impacts at different time scales. Yet, few studies directly compare the genetic composition of populations over time spans of more than 10 years. Therefore, to test the genetic effects of 15 years of population isolation in the butterfly Lycaena helle, we analysed 472 individuals from 27 samples, of which nine were collected in 1991 and 18 in 2006. Sampling was performed in five mountain regions (Pyrenees, Massif Central, Jura, Vosges and Ardennes). Genetic analyses were performed using five polymorphic microsatellites. Old and new samples of identical or neighbouring populations revealed similar genetic differentiations among these five mountain regions. A comparatively strong genetic differentiation among populations combined with a high amount of private alleles for each mountain area was detected, but mountain‐specific alleles were in most cases identical in 1991 and 2006. Nevertheless, the obtained data also indicate moderate changes between 1991 and 2006 in the species’ genetic structure – genetic differentiation among local populations increased marginally and allele frequencies showed corresponding modifications. A significant decline in genetic diversity was not detectable, and nine private alleles exclusive to a single mountain region were only detected in samples from the year 1991, whereas eleven were only observed in the individuals collected in 2006. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the response of the ‘Champaka’ pineapple to inoculation with the diazotrophic bacterium Asaia bogorensis (strain 219) when grown with organic fertilizer in an irrigated sapota orchard. Plantlets were transplanted to tubes containing a mixture of worm compost and vermiculite and inoculated with 108 bacterial cells. After five and a half months of acclimatization the plantlets were transplanted in furrows in the sapota orchard. Fertilizer was placed at the bottom of the furrows and covered with three doses (2.5; 5.0 and 7.5 L linear m?1 row) of three organic composts. The successful association of the plantlets with the diazotrophic bacterium was confirmed by most probable number analysis before transferring to the field. Plants inoculated with strain AB219 showed the greatest initial leaf growth and produced the heaviest fruits compared to uninoculated plants. Plant growth and fruit yield increased with increasing compost dosages. The results suggested that ‘Champaka’ pineapple benefited from the association of A. bogorensis (strain 219) when grown under irrigation and with organic fertilizer. 相似文献

The Asian citrus psyllid Diaphorina citri is currently the major threat to the citrus industry as it is the vector of Candidatus Liberibacter, the causal agent of huanglongbing disease (HLB). D. citri is native to Asia and now colonizes the Americas. Although it has been known in some countries for a long time, invasion routes remain undetermined. There are no efficient control methods for the HLB despite the intensive management tools currently in use. We investigated the genetic variability and structure of populations of D. citri to aid in the decision making processes toward sustainable management of this species/disease. We employed different methods to quantify and compare the genetic diversity and structure of D. citri populations among 36 localities in Brazil, using an almost complete sequence of the cytochrome oxidase I (COI) gene. Our analyses led to the identification of two geographically and genetically structured groups. The indices of molecular diversity pointed to a recent population expansion, and we discuss the role of multiple invasion events in this scenario. We also argue that such genetic diversity and population structure may have implications for the best management strategies to be adopted for controlling this psyllid and/or the disease it vectors in Brazil. 相似文献
