This study reports the first systematic investigation of the flocculation dynamics of exopolysaccharides (EPSs) produced by a halophilic bacterial strain grown on pretreated molasses as fermentation substrate. The potential use of these EPSs as an easily biodegradable, natural alternative for synthetic polyelectrolytes which are widely used and contain toxic and carcinogenic monomers was investigated. Flocculating activities of the EPS samples in synthetic water, synthetic sea water and natural sea water media which were used as model raw waters were monitored via the Photometric Dispersion Analyser (PDA 2000) instrument and removals were determined by measuring residual turbidities. One of the six EPS specimens, which formed the largest flocs thus performed highest turbidity removal, exhibited flocculation performance and particle removal efficiency comparable with commercial cationic, nonionic and anionic synthetic polyelectrolytes.  相似文献

An industrial grade acidic crude palm oil (ACPO) pre-treatment process was carried out using ethanesulfonic acid (ESA) as a catalyst in the esterification reaction. ESA was used in different dosages to reduce free fatty acid (FFA) to a minimum level for the second stage of biodiesel production via alkaline transesterification reaction. Different process operating conditions were optimized such as ESA dosage (0.25-3.5% wt/wt), methanol to ACPO molar ratio (1:1-20:1), reaction temperature (40-70 °C), and reaction time (3-150 min). This study revealed the potential use of abundant quantities of ACPO from oil palm mills for biodiesel production. The lab scale results showed the effectiveness of the pre-treatment process using ESA catalyst. Three consecutive catalyst recycling runs were achieved without significant degradation in its performance. Second and third reuse runs needed more reaction time to achieve the target level of FFA content. Esterification and transesterification using ESA and KOH respectively is proposed for biodiesel industrial scale production. The produced biodiesel meets the international standards specifications for biodiesel fuel (EN 14214 and ASTM D6751).  相似文献

This paper presents the results of a bench-scale biotrickling filter (BTF) on the removal of ammonia gas from a waste stream using a simultaneous nitrification/denitrification (SND) process. It was found that the developed BTF could completely remove 100 ppm ammonia from a waste stream, with an empty bed retention time of 60 s and 98.4% nitrogen removal through the SND process under the tested conditions. It was elucidated that both autotrophic and heterotrophic bacteria were involved in the nitrogen removal trough the SND process in the BTF. Additionally, the elimination capacity of total nitrogen by the BTF increased from 3.5 to 18.4 g N/m3 h with an inlet load of 20.6 g N/m3 h (73.6%). The findings of this study suggest that the BTF can be operated to attain complete ammonia removal through the SND process, thereby making the treatment of ammonia-laden gas streams both short and cost-effective.  相似文献

Butyl acetate holds great potential as a sustainable biofuel additive. Heterogeneously catalyzed transesterification of biobutanol and bioethylacetate can produce butyl acetate. This route is eco-friendly and offers several advantages over the commonly used Fischer Esterification. The Amberlite IR 120- and Amberlyst 15-catalyzed transesterification is studied in a batch reactor over a range of catalyst loading (6–12 wt.%), alcohol to ester feed ratio (1:3 to 3:1), and temperature (303.15–333.15 K). A butanol mole fraction of 0.2 in the feed is found to be optimum. Amberlite IR 120 promotes faster kinetics under these conditions. The transesterifications studied are slightly exothermic. The moles of solvent sorbed per gram of catalyst decreases (ethanol > butanol > ethyl acetate > butyl acetate) with decrease in solubility parameter. The dual site models, the Langmuir Hinshelwood and Popken models, are the most successful in correlating the kinetics over Amberlite IR 120 and Amberlyst 15, respectively.  相似文献

l-lysine hydrochloride was transformed to ethyl l-lysine dihydrochloride. This salt was reacted with trimellitic anhydride to yield the corresponding diacid (1). Microwave-assisted polycondensation results a series of novel Poly (amide-imide)s (PAI a–i ). These polymers have inherent viscosities in the range of 0.23–0.66 dl g−1, display optical activity from +8.02 to +15.11 (as there is no obvious regioselectivity between alpha and epsilon amino groups of the chiral diacid during the polymerization step then random orientation of diacid moieties along the polymer backbone can be predicted and the concept of “tacticity” cannot be addressed in this research), and are readily soluble in polar aprotic solvents. They start to decompose (T 10%) above 362°C and display glass-transition temperatures at 119–153°C. All of the above polymers were fully characterized by UV, FT-IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analyses, DSC, inherent viscosity measurement and specific rotation.  相似文献

The objective of the present study was to investigate the ability of Cupriavidus necator to produce poly-(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) on various carbon sources in batch cultivation. These results show that C. necator produces poly-3-hydroxybutyrate from single carbon sources. The highest poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (P3HB) content was achieved at growth on fructose in the exponential growth phase. The maximum yield of the P3HV content was obtained when fructose was mixed with acetate. The highest content P3HB-co-3HV was also achieved by C. necator when we supplied C-excess and N- and P-normal conditions. These results indicate that C. necator accumulates high polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) content by depleting these elements in the culture medium. Nitrogen and phosphorus limitation has no significant effect on the PHA production, whereas C-excess leads to an increase in PHA formation of up to 92% PHAs of cell dry weight after growth on 5 g/L acetate and 40 g/L fructose.  相似文献

Bioleaching studies were conducted to evaluate the extraction of copper from combined flotation concentrate and smelter dust using two different dust-addition strategies, non-fractional (simultaneously with concentrate) and fractional (step-wise dust addition) in stirred tank reactors. The highest copper extraction obtained with the fractional dust addition was up to 94% while extraction using the non-fractional method leveled off at approximately 44%. Thus, an increased copper recovery of about 50% was achieved with the fractional dust-addition method. It seems that the main reason for increased copper recovery using fractional dust addition could be the control and prevention of chalcopyrite passivation (according to SEM/EDS, XRD, and quantitative mineralogy data). This leads to its improved dissolution.  相似文献

Sulfonated metallo phthalocyanines (MPcS(n)) are second generation photosensitizers advanced for photodynamic therapy of various medical applications. A series of ZnPcS(n) was demetallated and subsequently converted to the corresponding [(64)Cu]CuPcS(n) in 40-50% isolated yields and >98% radiochemical purities. Tumor-bearing mice were injected with the (64)Cu-labeled products and subjected to 3-h dynamic PET imaging studies. Biodistribution patterns showed characteristic differences between the various derivatives. Tumor uptake was detected only for the amphiphilic derivatives [(64)Cu]CuPcS(2) and [(64)Cu]CuPcS(3)C(6) (1-1.5%ID/g). The biological data suggest that PET imaging with [(64)Cu]CuPc can be used to establish structure-PDT efficacy relationships for Pc-based photosensitizers.  相似文献

Optical imaging possesses similar sensitivity to nuclear imaging and has led to the emergence of multimodal approaches with dual-labeled nuclear/near-infrared (NIR) agents. The growing impact of (68)Ga (t(1/2)=68 min) labeled peptides on preclinical and clinical research offers a promising opportunity to merge the high spatial resolution of NIR imaging with the clinically-accepted positron emission tomography (PET). Previously, dual-labeled agents have been prepared with longer-lived radiometals and showed no detrimental effects on optical properties as a result of radiolabeling. In this study, we selected a peptide (M(2)) that targets MMP-2/9 and is dual-labeled with IRDye 800 CW and (68)Ga. Since (68)Ga chelation typically requires low pH (3.5-4) and elevated heating temperatures (95 °C), we sought to evaluate the impact of (68)Ga labeling on the optical properties of M(2). An efficient method for preparation of (68)Ga-M(2) was developed and reaction conditions were optimized. Stability studies in PBS, DTPA, and serum were performed and high levels of intact agent were evident under each condition. The addition of multiple reporters to a targeting agent adds further complexity to the characterization and validation and thus requires not only testing to ensure the agent is stable chemically and radiochemically, but also optically. Therefore, fluorescence properties were evaluated using a spectrofluorometer as well as by fluorescence detection via HPLC. It was determined that (68)Ga-labeling conditions did not impair the fluorescent properties of the agent. The agent was then used for in vivo imaging in a mouse model of heterotopic ossification (HO) with activated MMP-9 expression as an early biomarker which precedes mineralization. Although (68)Ga-complexation greatly reduced binding affinity of the peptide and negated tracer uptake on PET, NIR imaging showed consistent fluorescent signal that correlated to MMP-9 expression. This attests to the feasibility of using (68)Ga/NIR for dual-labeling of other peptides or small molecules for multimodality molecular imaging.  相似文献
