1. Male quails submitted 20 and 120 days to a low iron diet (7 ppm) were compared to female laying quails, exposed for 30 days to the same low iron regime, in order to compare the response of the iron metabolic control under a single (erythropoiesis) or a doubled (erythropoiesis and egg formation) iron demand. 2. Iron deposit in storage organs, the classical hematology and the intestinal iron absorption were analyzed in these animals. 3. In males, after 120 days, the iron deposits were reduced 50 and 75%, but hematological values (hematocrit and hemoglobin concentration) were normal, although in laying quails, after 30 days, an anemic condition was evident in both blood parameters and iron deposits, provoking an iron deficient erythropoiesis. 4. Release of corticosterone in hungry kittiwake chicks facilitates begging and allows them to restore depleted energy reserves by increasing parental food provisioning. However, in order to avoid detrimental effects of chronic elevation of corticosterone, chicks might suppress adrenocortical activity in response to prolonged food shortages. In this study we examined temporal dynamics of corticosterone release in red-legged kittiwake (Rissa brevirostris) chicks exposed to prolonged restrictions in energy content and/or nutritional quality (low versus high lipid content) of their food. Starting at the age of 15 days, chicks were fed either high- or low-lipid fish at 40%, 65%, and 100% of ad libitum energy intake. Body mass measurements and baseline plasma samples were taken on a weekly basis after beginning of the treatment. After 3 weeks of treatment, chicks were exposed to a standardized acute handling and restraint stress protocol, where in addition to a baseline sample, three plasma samples were taken at intervals up to 50 min. We found that food-restricted chicks had lower body mass, chronically (during 2-3 weeks) elevated baseline and higher acute stress-induced levels of corticosterone compared to chicks fed ad libitum. Low lipid content of food further exacerbated these effects. An increase in baseline levels of corticosterone was observed within a week after energy requirements of food-restricted chicks exceeded their daily energy intake. A tendency for suppression of adrenocortical activity was observed in treatments fed low-lipid diets only at the end of the experiment. We suggest that nest-bound chicks, if food-stressed, might suffer deleterious effects of chronic elevation of corticosterone. 相似文献
A strain of 1,507 typised donors enables 15.97 average donors to be selected for a thrombocyte transfusion in one of 75 patients selected at random with HLA antibodies being previously determined (1 to 66 donors per patient). HLA compatible donors were found for 72 patients (97.33 per cent). More than 5 HLA compatible donors could be found for 58 patients. The high number of compatible donors is based on the fact that among 1,507 donors there were 156 HLA homozygotes and 556 donors with 3 HLA-A or B-antigens respectively. Compatibility in the ABO-system was not taken into account. 相似文献
Poly(dG-m5dC)·poly(dG-m5dC) was modified by treatment with N-acetoxy-N-2-acetylaminofluorene (N-Aco-AAF) and its conformation examined by circular dichroism (CD) and susceptibility to S1 nuclease digestion. A sample with a modification level of 10% shows a CD spectrum characteristic of the Z form and is resistant to digestion by S1 nuclease. The relative reactivity of several polymers with N-Aco-AAF was shown to follow the order of ease of formation of Z DNA: poly(dG-m5dC)·poly(dG-m5dC) > poly(dG-dC)·poly(dG-dC) > poly(dG)·poly(dC). This suggests that AAF reacts more readily with Z DNA than B DNA. 相似文献
The binding of pentaammineruthenium (III) to ribonuclease A and B both free and complexed with d(pA)4 has been examined in the crystalline state through the application of X-ray diffraction and difference Fourier techniques. In crystals of native RNase B, the reagent was observed to have many binding sites, some entirely electrostatic in nature and others consistent with coordination to histidine residues. The primary histidine in the latter case was 105 with 119 also partially substituted. In crystals of RNase A+d(pA)4 complex only a single, extremely strong site of substitution was observed, and this was 2.4 Å from the native position of the imidazole ring of histidine 105. Thus, the results of these X-ray diffraction studies appear to be quite consistent with the findings of earlier NMR studies and with the results obtained in crystals of the gene 5 DNA binding protein. 相似文献
The littoral zone of shallow water bodies in the Czech Republic has been studied quite consistently at several fishponds. The use of algae, especially diatoms, for the monitoring of the state of lotic freshwater also has a long tradition. The main objective of the presented paper is to validate the feasibility of the use of littoral periphyton comunities for the biomonitoring of standing waters. At the investigated sites, littoral periphytic diatoms were studied together with selected enviromental variables (pH, conductivity, nutrients – especially total phosphorus) on three types of natural substrates (epilithon, epiphyton, epipelon). The evaluation of the diatom community was performed on the basis of the checklists of algal indicator species published by authors from the Czech Republic, Austria and the Netherlands. The data were subjected to statistical software NCCS 2000 (GLM Anova and ``Ward's minimum'' variance cluster analysis). Littoral periphytic diatoms appear to be good indicators of the fishpond water quality. The selected substrates show non-significant differences therefore the average values from all substrates were used. The best indicatory system for evaluation of Czech fishponds was van Dam's index.
New material ofTrischizolagus dumitrescuae from Moldova and Ukraine is described. The variation of p3 inTrischizolagus shows the gradual shift of morphotype frequencies from the ‘Hypolagus’ pattern in Turolian through the mixture of three patterns (including ‘Nekrolagus’ morphotype) in Early Ruscinian to the dominant ‘Alilepus’ pattern in the Late Ruscinian samples. These transformations took place parallel to that of the North AmericanNekrolagus. Probably North AmericanSylvilagus, Brachylagus, andRomerolagus had an North American origin fromNekrolagus, whereas Eurasiatic and AfricanOryctolagus, Caprolagus, Nesolagus, andPoelagus could have originated in the Old World fromTrischizolagus. 相似文献

fimbrial-like structures from different strains of H. alvei that cannot be easily ascribed to any of the previously reported fimbrial types in this species (type I or type III). Polymerase
chain reaction (PCR) and immunofluorescence assays were carried out to study fimbriae and flagella in H. alvei strains isolated from different sources. No correlation between the results obtained by PCR and those obtained by phenotypic
methods were found, and the antibodies used gave cross or different recognition patterns of the surface structures present
in these strains. We report as well that strain and growth temperature influence fimbriation and expression of flagella in
human and animal isolates of H. alvei. This study also indicates that the absence of fimbriae have a significant positive influence on the initial adhesion of

The binding of norepinephrine (NE) to plasma proteins of fresh human blood obtained from healthy volunteers was studied by ultrafiltration at different NE concentrations and incubation times at 37 degrees C. At 1.7 nM L-[3H]-NE binding was approximately 25%. The binding was rapid and was not influenced by the incubation time. [3H]-NE could be dissociated from its binding sites by acid precipitation and, after HPLC, showed to be unchanged NE. No difference in NE binding was found between plasma collected in EGTA-GSH or heparin solution. There was no degradation of NE when incubated in plasma at 37 degrees C for 10 h, even without the addition of antioxidants. Therefore, in the present study, binding represented interaction of unchanged NE with plasma proteins. The whole plasma binding was saturable over the range of 0.66 nM to 0.59 mM of NE. Scatchard plot of specific binding revealed high-affinity sites with a Kd of 5.4 nM and a Bmax of 3.9 fmoles.mg-1 protein, and low-affinity sites with a Kd of 2.7 microM and a Bmax of 3.3 pmoles.mg-1 protein. Electrophoretic characterization of NE-binding proteins showed that about 60% of bound NE was associated to albumin, and 20% to prealbumin. NE binding to pure human plasma proteins was also studied using ultrafiltration. Scatchard analyses revealed a single class of very high-affinity binding sites for prealbumin (Kd 4.9 nM), a single class of binding sites for alpha 1-acid glycoprotein (Kd 54 microM) and two classes of binding sites for albumin with high (Kd 1.7 microM) and low (Kd 0.8 mM) affinities respectively. The main results obtained in this study - a) reversibility of NE binding, b) stability of free and bound NE in plasma, c) involvement of the prealbumin as a specific binding protein - point out to a specific transport for NE in human blood plasma. 相似文献
