General formulation of stochastic single- and multi-compartment reversible systems with time-dependent transitions is made. The correspondence between the stochastic mean and the deterministic value is established in case of time-dependence and it is shown how the consequence of this can be utilized to compute the distribution and the moments of each individual compartment of the system. A two-compartment reversible system previously proposed by Cardenas and Matis (1975a) is analyzed on the basis of the theory.  相似文献

Nigericin is a monocarboxylic polyether molecule described as a mobile K+ ionophore unable to transport Li+ and Cs+ across natural or artificial membranes. This paper shows that the ion carrier molecule forms complexes of equivalent energy demands with Li+, Cs+, Na+, Rb+, and K+. This is in accordance with the similar values of the complex stability constants obtained from nigericin with the five alkali metal cations assayed. On the other hand, nigericinalkali metal cation binding isotherms show faster rates for Li+ and Cs+ than for Na+, K+, and Rb+, in conditions where the carboxylic proton does not dissociate. Furthermore, proton NMR spectra of nigericin-Li+ and nigericin-Cs+ complexes show wide broadenings, suggesting strong cation interaction with the ionophore; in contrast, the complexes with Na+, K+, and Rb+ show only clear-cut chemical shifts. These latter results support the view that nigericin forms highly stable complexes with Li+ and Cs+ and contribute to the explanation for the inability of this ionophore to transport the former cations in conditions where it catalyzes a fast transport of K+>Rb+>Na+.Part of the results of this paper were presented at the 14th International Congress of Biochemistry in Prague, Czechoslovakia.  相似文献

Summary One of the methods commonly used for manufacturing fructose 1,6-diphosphate is based on the enzymatic phosphorylation of glucose with inorganic phosphate using permeabilized brewer's yeast cells. Our results demonstrate that a substantial improvement in the yield of bioconversion can be achieved using fed-batch-grown Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells. Under an appropriate glucose and phosphate to cell ratio the efficiency of bioconversion reaches 70% of the theoretical value. Offprint requests to: C. Compagno  相似文献

The reproductive phenology and epiphytic macroalgae of Sargassum muticum were studied through an annual cycle (September 1987 to November 1988) at two sites on the northwestern coast of Baja California, Mexico, which were subjected to different degrees of wave exposure. Sargassum muticum is a brown alga of Japanese origin, now considered a permanent member of the marine flora of Baja California. A similar reproductive development was observed at both sites, with a maximum percentage of reproductive plants from May to July (spring–summer) and minimum from December to March (winter). Reproductive plants were found throughout the year. A total of 48 species of epiphytes were identified and seasonal variation in their diversity was observed. Chromosome numbers and karyotypes of species from four American Zamiaceae (Cycadales) are reported. Zamia shows interspecific and intraspecific chromosome variation, whereas Microcycas, Ceratozamia, and Dioon have constant karyotypes within each genus. In Zamia, all karyotypes have the same number of submetacentric and acrocentric chromosomes, but they differ in the number of metacentric and telocentric chromosomes. Centric fission of metacentric chromosomes is proposed to explain the karyotypic variation in this genus. Zamia shows karyological relationships with Microcycas and Ceratozamia, whereas Dioon appears very distinct from the other American cycad genera. Affinity among Zamia, Ceratozamia, and Microcycas karyotypes and distinctiveness of Dioon karyotypes are supported by comparative analysis of phenotypic characters in the four genera.  相似文献

In liver cells recovering from reversible ischemia the increase in RNA synthesis by isolated nuclei is preceded by activation of ornithine decarboxylase, leading in turn to an increase in putrescine concentration. Treatment of the animals with 1,3-diaminopropane and putrescine prevents ornithine decarboxylase activation but does not hinder the enhancement of RNA synthesis in post-ischemic liver nuclei; therefore, ornithine decarboxylase activation does not seem to be a necessary prerequisite for the increase in RNA synthesis. Hypophysectomy does not prevent the post-ischemic increases of ornithine decarboxylase and RNA synthesis; but pre-treatment of the animals with cycloheximide—which has a dual effect on the activity of ornithine decarboxylase—abolishes the post-ischemic enhancement of RNA synthesis. In contrast with regenerating liver, changes in ornithine decarboxylase activity and putrescine concentrations in reversible ischemia are not associated to changes in S-adenosylmethionine decarboxylase activity and in spermine and spermidine concentrations that seem to be characteristic of tissues where increases in RNA synthesis are followed by DNA synthesis and cell multiplication.  相似文献

DNA synthesis in meiotic oocytes of the sterlet (A. ruthenus) has been studied during early prophase stages using H3-thymidine. The pattern of H3-thymidine incorporation is similar to that in oocytes of Amphibia and Osteichthyes. In the oogonia as well as in the leptotene and zygotene oocytes, the label is predominantly localized over chromosomes. An intensive incorporation of H3-thymidine into the material of the heterochromatic "cap" has been observed during pachytene. Thus, the main synthesis of extra DNA in the sterlet oocytes occurs during pachytene. No DNA in synthesized by the diplotene oocytes.  相似文献
