Background
Previous studies showed the ability of Pseudomonas putida strain BTP1 to promote induced systemic resistance (ISR) in different host plants. Since ISR is long-lasting and not conducive for development of resistance of the targeted pathogen, this phenomenon can take part of disease control strategies. A conceptual model is being developed for the prediction of cesium partitioning between bound, aqueous, and phytoextracted phases in the rhizosphere. The model categorizes the processes that impact cesium partitioning into six submodels: geochemistry, physical factors, root density, microorganisms, nutrients, and root exudates. A seventh submodel (Cs fate) describes Cs movement between the three phases. Functional relationships and parametric values within and between the submodels are developed based on literature, field characterization, and laboratory experiments. Sensitivity analyses were first conducted to evaluate the effects of root exudates on Cs partitioning. The model was also used to test the sensitivity of root density, microbial population, potassium requirement and concentration, and moisture content on the concentration of root exudates and consequently on Cs partitioning. An increase in the concentration of root exudates results in a greater decrease in the bound concentration and greater increase in the aqueous and phytoextracted concentrations. In general, the other parameters affect Cs partitioning according to how they affect the fate of root exudates. However, the comprehensive nature of the system renders a complex overall effect on Cs partitioning. In summary, the model provides a framework for better understanding the complex interaction of processes that control Cs fate in the rhizosphere. 相似文献

Purpose: The newer methods of cancer treatment require new idea of drug delivery in cancer cells. Due to numerous researches electromagnetic field affect on cell function and cell membrane for possible therapeutic and drug delivery. In this article, we determined in vitro uptake of fluorescent dyes into the attached K562 cells due to time-varying magnetic field exposure. Method and material: The K562 cells were exposed to magnetic pulses via Magstim stimulator and double 70?mm coil. The strength and duration of pulses in all experiments were the same and three different frequencies of 0.25, 1 and 10?Hz pulses for 56, 112 and 28 numbers of pulses were applied (nine experimental groups) and uptake of Ly and PI was measured in each group. Result: Our results show that magnetic field can efficiently increase permeability. Among the treatment groups, the system gives the optimal permeabilization when cells are exposed to a train of 28 pulses with 1?Hz frequency. 相似文献

The mechanisms leading to asthma, and those guarding against it, are yet to be fully defined. The neuropeptide VIP is a cotransmitter, together with nitric oxide (NO), of airway relaxation, and a modulator of immune and inflammatory responses. NO-storing molecules in the lung were recently shown to modulate airway reactivity and were proposed to have a protective role against the disease. We report here that mice with targeted deletion of the VIP gene spontaneously exhibit airway hyperresponsiveness to the cholinergic agonist methacholine as well as peribronchiolar and perivascular cellular infiltrates and increased levels of inflammatory cytokines in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. Immunologic sensitization and challenge with ovalbumin generally enhanced the airway hyperresponsiveness and airway inflammation in all mice. Intraperitoneal administration of VIP over a 2-wk period in knockout mice virtually eliminated the airway hyperresponsiveness and reduced the airway inflammation in previously sensitized and challenged mice. The findings suggest that 1) VIP may be an important component of endogenous anti-asthma mechanisms, 2) deficiency of the VIP gene may predispose to asthma pathogenesis, and 3) treatment with VIP or a suitable agonist may offer potentially effective replacement therapy for this disease. 相似文献

Background
Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) remains a therapeutic challenge, and the search continues for more effective drugs and drug combinations. We recently reported that deletion of the vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) gene caused the spontaneous expression of a PH phenotype that was fully corrected by VIP. The objectives of this investigation were to answer the questions: 1) Can VIP protect against PH in other experimental models? and 2) Does combining VIP with an endothelin (ET) receptor antagonist bosentan enhance its efficacy?Methods
Within 3 weeks of a single injection of monocrotaline (MCT, s.c.) in Sprague Dawley rats, PAH developed, manifested by pulmonary vascular remodeling, lung inflammation, RV hypertrophy, and death within the next 2 weeks. MCT-injected animals were either untreated, treated with bosentan (p.o.) alone, with VIP (i.p.) alone, or with both together. We selected this particular combination upon finding that VIP down-regulates endothelin receptor expression which is further suppressed by bosentan. Therapeutic outcomes were compared as to hemodynamics, pulmonary vascular pathology, and survival.Results
Treatment with VIP, every other day for 3 weeks, begun on the same day as MCT, almost totally prevented PAH pathology, and eliminated mortality for 45 days. Begun 3 weeks after MCT, however, VIP only partially reversed PAH pathology, though more effectively than bosentan. Combined therapy with both drugs fully reversed the pathology, while preventing mortality for at least 45 days.Conclusions
1) VIP completely prevented and significantly reversed MCT-induced PAH; 2) VIP was more effective than bosentan, probably because it targets a wider range of pro-remodeling pathways; and 3) combination therapy with VIP plus bosentan was more effective than either drug alone, probably because both drugs synergistically suppressed ET-ET receptor pathway. 相似文献68.

Field experiment was conducted on fodder maize to explore the potential of integrated use of chemical, organic and biofertilizers for improving maize growth, beneficial microflora in the rhizosphere and the economic returns. The treatments were designed to make comparison of NPK fertilizer with different combinations of half dose of NP with organic and biofertilizers viz. biological potassium fertilizer (BPF), Biopower, effective microorganisms (EM) and green force compost (GFC). Data reflected maximum crop growth in terms of plant height, leaf area and fresh biomass with the treatment of full NPK; and it was followed by BPF+full NP. The highest uptake of NPK nutrients by crop was recorded as: N under half NP+Biopower; P in BPF+full NP; and K from full NPK. The rhizosphere microflora enumeration revealed that Biopower+EM applied along with half dose of GFC soil conditioner (SC) or NP fertilizer gave the highest count of N-fixing bacteria (Azotobacter, Azospirillum, Azoarcus andZoogloea). Regarding the P-solubilizing bacteria,Bacillus was having maximum population with Biopower+BPF+half NP, andPseudomonas under Biopower+EM+half NP treatment. It was concluded that integration of half dose of NP fertilizer with Biopower+BPF / EM can give similar crop yield as with full rate of NP fertilizer; and through reduced use of fertilizers the production cost is minimized and the net return maximized. However, the integration of half dose of NP fertilizer with biofertilizers and compost did not give maize fodder growth and yield comparable to that from full dose of NPK fertilizers. 相似文献

Differential migration is a widespread, but poorly understood, phenomenon in birds. In this paper, we present the first detailed field study of differential migration in the Old World warbler (Sylviidae) family. We studied two chiffchaff Phylloscopus [collybita] semispecies: the common chiffchaff P. [c.] collybita and the Iberian chiffchaff P. [c.] ibericus. Using data collected at several latitudes in Europe and Africa, we present convincing evidence for differential distance migration of sexes in chiffchaffs, with females moving further than males. Interestingly, while there was a pronounced gradient in the sex‐ratios in Europe and North Africa (with an increasing proportion of females with declining latitude), no clear pattern was found south of the Sahara, where sex‐ratios were more male‐biased than predicted by a simple latitude model. This suggests that, amongst the chiffchaffs wintering in West Africa, a large proportion is composed by Iberian birds, and provides support to previous suggestions that Iberian chiffchaffs are long distance migrants. Results from detailed studies in Senegal also show that chiffchaffs display differential timing of spring migration, with males leaving the winter quarters considerably earlier than females. The results are discussed in the framework of the three main (non‐mutually exclusive) hypotheses attempting to explain the latitudinal segregation of the sexes. Given the relative failure of standard comparative studies to discriminate between competing single‐factor hypotheses to explain differential migration, it is argued that the chiffchaff species complex might be particularly suited to study this issue using a new approach suggested by Cristol et al. (1999) : detailed (further) comparisons between closely related species (such as the common and the Iberian chiffchaffs) could help identifying the key factors to be incorporated into optimality models that can predict relative distance of migration of different sex or age classes. 相似文献
