Measurements of the body weight of monkeys in the Japanese monkey troop on Koshima islet in southern Japan have been made since 1970. Population changes in the troop have been recorded since 1952. The population changes were further analyzed on the basis of the body weight changes of the troop members. The recent history of the Koshima troop can be divided into three periods differing according to conditions of artificial feeding: (1) a semi-wild period (SW Period, 1952–63); (2) an artificial feeding period (AF Period, 1964–71); (3) and a restricted artificial feeding period (Non-AF Period, 1972–77). The AF Period represented a period of population growth, whereas the Non-AF Period was a declining one when the population density of the troop was roughly ten times that of most wild troops. These population changes, i.e., changes in population parameters especially in the population declining phase, could be fairly well understood from the general features of the body weight changes of the troop members, the slow body weight growth, elevation of age at first birth, and small size of adult females. Reproduction and survival were affected by seasonal and yearly changes in body weight. The pattern of changes in body weight displayed seasonal peaks in the autumn and spring. Of these, the former suggests that fruit eating in the autumn is an important factor in the reproduction and growth of the monkeys.  相似文献

The resonance Raman spectra of riboflavin (RF) and its derivatives, including 3-deuterated (3-D RF), 3-methyl (3-CH3 RF), 3-carboxymethyl (3-CH2COOH RF), and 7,8-dichlororiboflavins (7,8-Cl RF), in H2O and D2O were observed in the 700-1700 cm-1 region. The fluorescence problem of riboflavin was overcome by complex formation of riboflavin with riboflavin binding proteins. The observed frequencies of Raman lines of RF are in good agreement with those of glucose oxidase obtained by Spiro et al. by the resonance CARS method, although the present spectral range is extended to much lower frequency with a higher signal-to-noise ratio than that for glucose oxidase. The observed Raman lines were assigned to the individual ring modes of isoalloxazine on the basis of the Raman spectra of appropriate model compounds such as uracil, pyrazine, and o-xylene. The 1253 cm-1 line of RF was shifted to ca. 1300 cm-1 for 3-D RF, 3-CH3 RF, and 3-CH2COOH RF, and accordingly can be assigned to the CN stretching mode of Ring III. The 1632 cm-1 line of RF was shifted for 7,8-Cl RF and was assigned to a Ring I mode. No Raman line mainly due to C = O stretching mode was observed in the present resonance Raman spectra.  相似文献

Resonance Raman (RR) spectra of purple intermediates of L-phenylalanine oxidase (PAO) with non-labeled and isotopically labeled phenylalanines as substrates, i.e., [1-13C], [2-13C], [ring-U-13C6], and [15N]phenylalanines, were measured with excitation at 632.8 nm within the broad absorption band around 540 nm. The spectra obtained resemble those of purple intermediates of D-amino acid oxidase (DAO). The isotope effects on the 1,665 cm-1 band with [15N] or [2-13C]phenylalanine indicate that the band is due to the C = N stretching mode of an imino acid derived from phenylalanine, i.e., alpha-imino-beta-phenylpropionate. The intense band at 1,389 cm-1 is contributed to by the CO2- symmetric stretching and C-CO2- stretching modes of alpha-imino-beta-phenylpropionate. The 1,602 cm-1 band, which does not shift upon isotopic substitution of phenylalanine, corresponds to the 1,605 cm-1 band of DAO purple intermediates and was assigned to a vibrational mode associated with the C(10a) = C(4a) - C(4) = O moiety of reduced flavin. These results confirm that PAO purple intermediates consist of the reduced enzyme and an imino acid derived from a substrate, and suggest that the plane defined by C(10a) = C(4a) - C(4) = O of reduced flavin and the plane containing H2+N = C - CO2- of an imino acid are arranged in close contact to each other, generating a charge-transfer interaction.  相似文献

Populations of the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch collected from various localities and from various host plants in Japan showed wide variations in diapause attribute. Diapause percentages at 18°C/9L15D varied from nearly 100% in the north to 0% in the south-west. At intermediate latitudes the mites showed wide inter-population variations. Populations on herbaceous hosts in vinyl- or glass-houses gave significantly lower incidence of diapause than those on roses and deciduous fruit trees. Presence of winter hosts and better host quality under protected environments seemed to favour non-diapausing mites. The temperature threshold for diapause expression also varied widely among local populations. Northern populations consistently had higher and less variable thresholds than populations at intermediate latitudes with thresholds between 15 and 18°C. Inbred lines derived from a population in Kyoto exhibited a wide variation in diapause percentage at 18°C. These results show that diapause in T. urticae is a quantitative threshold trait and that populations in central Japan consist of a variety of genotypes with different diapause traits. This might provide a genetic source for adaptation to local and temporal variations in environmental conditions.  相似文献

Crosses between genotypically distinct thalli of the monoecious species Porphyra yezoensis were carried out using immature thallus fragments from green- and red-type color mutants and also wild-type thalli. As the genes governing the mutants are monogenic, recessive to the wild-type, and belong to the same linkage group, the degree of self-fertilization could be estimated based on the pigmentation of the resultant diploid conchocelis. The degree of self-fertilization in the cross between the green-type and the wild-type was 48.5–55.0%, and in the cross between the red-type and the wild-type was 45.1–56.5%. In the cross between the green- and red-type mutants, the degree of self-fertilization was 46.0–54.5% when the green-type was the female parent, and was 44.8–55.6% when the red-type was the female parent.  相似文献
