Gobioidei is a suborder of perciform fishes with about 2000 species distributed worldwide. Despite the evolutionary and ecological importance of gobioids, their phylogenetic inter- and intrarelationships are still poorly understood. Only a few studies (either morphological or molecular) have tackled the phylogeny of Gobioidei as a whole. Of these, only six studies thus far have addressed gobioid intrarelationships based on molecular data (each using different taxon sampling, genes, outgroups and method of phylogenetic inference), yielding contrasting results regarding the phylogenetic relationships among major lineages. In this study, we have reanalysed data from four of these molecular phylogenetic studies of Gobioidei under standardization criteria (same outgroup and methods of phylogenetic inference) in order to assess the robustness of their results, as well as to identify which parts of the gobioid tree are least resolved. Results from all datasets reanalysed in this study are generally similar to those of the respective original studies, and suggest broad patterns of phylogenetic relationships among gobioid lineages. However, there are numerous topological discrepancies among the four studies, support is low for many phylogenetic relationships and topology tests are unable to reject the vast majority of alternative topologies tested. The concatenation of datasets yields a relatively robust phylogeny of major lineages of Gobioidei, but there are some issues of overlap and missing data, which are ameliorated with the inclusion of additional homologous sequences from GenBank that increase dataset completeness. Because both monophyly of major gobioid groups and phylogenetic relationships among them cannot be fully resolved, it is clear that further phylogenetic research is needed, and this should be accompanied by a major taxonomic revision of the Gobioidei. Nevertheless, even with the relatively unstable nature of the available molecular phylogenies, there are some monophyletic units that can be identified, and a basic structure of the gobioid tree appears evident. 相似文献

In fragmented landscapes, the sharp transitions between remnant habitats and those created by human disturbances result in “edge effects”. Changes in microhabitat characteristics (for example, the height at which epiphytic plants grow on their host trees) may, however, modulate these effects. We evaluated how distance to the edge and height on the host tree affect seed germination and adult occurrence of the austral-forest epiphyte Sarmienta repens. The negative effect of edges on germination and adult occurrence was modulated by a vertical gradient (height) with contrasting effects on seed germination and survival to adulthood. Seed germination was affected by both height and distance to the forest edge, increasing away from forest edges for plants growing on trees in mid-story (3–6 m) and canopy zones (6–12 m) but being unaffected by the distance to the edge for plants located in understory zones (<3 m above the ground). Adult occurrence, in contrast, increased with both height and distance to the edge. As a result, seeds deposited near edges germinated best at a microhabitat (understory zone) inadequate for subsequent survival. Our results stress the importance of maintaining intact forest areas, free from edge influences and hosting large trees, to preserve the rich epiphytic flora characteristic of humid forests. 相似文献

In this study, we describe a new population of NK cells that reside in the normal, uninflamed peritoneal cavity. Phenotypically, they share some similarities with the small population of CD49b(-), CD27(+) immature splenic NK cells, as well as liver NK cells, but they differ in their expression of CD62L, TRAIL, and EOMES. Functionally, the peritoneal NK cells resemble the immature splenic NK cells in their production of IFN-γ, GM-CSF, and TNF-α and in the killing of YAC-1 target cells. We also found that the peritoneum induces different behavior in mature and immature splenic NK cells. When transferred i.v. into RAGγc knockout mice, both populations undergo homeostatic proliferation in the spleen, but only the immature splenic NK cells are able to reach the peritoneum. When transferred directly into the peritoneum, the mature NK cells survive but do not divide, whereas the immature NK cells proliferate profusely. These data suggest that the peritoneum is not only home to a new subset of tissue-resident NK cells, but that it differentially regulates the migration and homeostatic proliferation of immature versus mature NK cells. 相似文献

During cancer progression, bone marrow derived myeloid cells, including immature myeloid cells and macrophages, progressively accumulate at the primary tumour site where they contribute to the establishment of a tumour promoting microenvironment. A marked infiltration of macrophages into the stromal compartment and the generation of a desmoplastic stromal reaction is a particular characteristic of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) and is thought to play a key role in disease progression and its response to therapy. Tumour associated macrophages (TAMs) foster PDA tumour progression by promoting angiogenesis, metastasis, and by suppressing an anti-tumourigenic immune response. Recent work also suggests that TAMs contribute to resistance to chemotherapy and to the emergence of cancer stem-like cells. Here we will review the current understanding of the biology and the pro-tumourigenic functions of TAMs in cancer and specifically in PDA, and highlight potential therapeutic strategies to target TAMs and to improve current therapies for pancreatic cancer. Aim To study the patterns of genetic variation and the historical events and processes that influenced the distribution and intraspecific diversity in Hyla meridionalis Boettger, 1874. Location Hyla meridionalis is restricted to the western part of the Mediterranean region. In northern Africa it is present in Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. In south‐western Europe it is found in the south of France, north‐western Italy and north‐eastern and south‐western Iberian Peninsula. There are also insular populations, as in the Canaries and Menorca. Methods Sampling included 112 individuals from 36 populations covering the range of the species. We used sequences of mitochondrial DNA Cytochrome Oxidase I (COI) for the phylogeographical analysis (841 bp) and COI plus a fragment including part of tRNA lysine, ATP synthase subunits 6 and 8 and part of Cytochrome Oxidase III for phylogenetic analyses (2441 bp). Phylogenetic analyses were performed with paup *4.0b10 (maximum likelihood, maximum parsimony) and Mr Bayes 3.0 (Bayesian analysis). Nested clade analysis was performed using tcs 1.18 and Geo Dis 2.2. A dispersal‐vicariant analysis was performed with diva 1.0 to generate hypotheses about the geographical distribution of ancestors. Results We found little genetic diversity within samples from Morocco, south‐western Europe and the Canary Islands, with three well‐differentiated clades. One is distributed in south‐western Iberia and the High Atlas, Anti‐Atlas and Massa River in Morocco. The second is restricted to the Medium Atlas Mountains. The third one is present in northern Morocco, north‐eastern Iberia, southern France and the Canaries. These three groups are also represented in the nested clade analysis. Sequences from Tunisian specimens are highly divergent from sequences of all other populations, suggesting that the split between the two lineages is ancient. diva analysis suggests that the ancestral distribution of the different lineages was restricted to Africa, and that an explanation of current distribution of the species requires three different dispersal events. Main conclusions Our results support the idea of a very recent colonization of south‐western Europe and the Canary Islands from Morocco. South‐western Europe has been colonized at least twice: once from northern Morocco probably to the Mediterranean coast of France and once from the western coast of Morocco to southern Iberia. Human transport is a likely explanation for at least one of these events. Within Morocco, the pattern of diversity is consistent with a model of mountain refugia during hyperarid periods within the Pleistocene. Evaluation of the phylogenetic relationships of Tunisian haplotypes will require an approach involving the other related hylid taxa in the area. 相似文献

Sequences were determined for the nuclear-encoded small subunit (SSU) rRNA and 5.8S rRNA genes as well as the internal transcribed spacers ITS1 and ITS2 of the parasitic dinoflagellate genus Syndinium from two different marine copepod hosts. Syndinium developed a multicellular plasmodium inside its host and at maturity free-swimming zoospores were released. Syndinium plasmodia in the copepod Paracalanus parvus produced zoospores of three different morphological types. However, full SSU rDNA sequences for the three morphotypes were 100% identical and also their ITS1-ITS2 sequences were identical except for four base pairs. It was concluded that the three morphotypes belong to a single species that was identified as Syndinium turbo, the type species of the dinoflagellate subdivision Syndinea. The SSU rDNA sequence of another Syndinium species infecting Corycaeus sp. was similar to Syndinium turbo except for three base pairs and the ITS1-ITS2 sequences of the two species differed at 34-35 positions. Phylogenetic analyses placed Syndinium as a sister taxon to the blue crab parasite Hematodinium sp. and both parasites were affiliated with the so-called marine alveolate Group II. This corroborates the hypothesis that marine alveolate Group II is Syndinea. 相似文献
