During the winters of 2001 and 2002, the effects of three strain of Agrobacterium rubi (A1, A16 and A18), a range of IBA concentrations (0, 2000, 4000 and 6000 ppm) alone and in combination with three strains of Agrobacterium rubi and date of cutting collection on the rooting of hardwood stem cuttings of kiwifruit cv. Hayward were evaluated. Treatments of hardwood stem cuttings of kiwifruit cv. Hayward with the bacteria, IBA and IBA plus bacteria were found to promote rooting. Highest rooting percentage was obtained from cuttings treated with 4000 ppm IBA plus A18 in cv. Hayward in both years. Higher rooting percentages were observed when shoots were collected in February rather than in January. 相似文献

We summarize a series of experimental results made with the newly developed high resolution X-ray scattering (IXS) instrument on two pure lipid bilayers, including dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine (DMPC) and dilauroylphosphatidylcholine (DLPC) in both gel and liquid crystal phases, and lipid bilayers containing cholesterol. By analyzing the IXS data based on the generalized three effective eigenmode model (GTEE), we obtain dispersion relations of the high frequency density oscillations (phonons) of lipid molecules in these bilayers. We then compare the dispersion relations of pure lipid bilayers of different chain lengths among themselves and the dispersion relations of pure lipid bilayers with those of the cholesterol containing bilayers. We also compare our experimental results with collective dynamics data generated by computer molecular dynamics (MD) simulations for dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) in gel phase and DMPC in liquid crystal phase. 相似文献

The number of clinical studies on gamma interferon (IFN-gamma), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-4 (IL-4) in human brucellosis is limited. The present study was focused on IFN-gamma, TNF-alpha and IL-4 levels in acute brucellosis cases, in the acute phase and at the end of the treatment. The relation of these cytokines to traditional inflammation markers was also investigated. The study included 27 cases of acute brucellosis and 20 healthy volunteers who had no complaints. It was found that mean IFN-gamma and TNF-alpha levels, CRP (C-reactive protein) levels and ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) values were significantly higher in acute brucellosis cases as compared to post-treatment values and values measured in the control group. In addition, IFN-gamma and TNF-alpha levels measured in the acute phase correlated with the increase in CRP levels and ESR values. Our results confirmed that IFN-gamma and TNF-alpha are involved in the pathophysiology of brucellosis and are closely related to the inflammatory activation of the disease. In view of the present findings, it is suggested that IFN-gamma and TNFalpha may be used for monitoring brucellosis. 相似文献

The water-distilled essential oil the leaves of Coridothymus capitatus were analyzed by GC/MS and also analyzed by direct thermal desorption GC/MS. Comparison was made between two analyses techniques. The essential oil consisted mainly of monoterpenes 98.9%, while oxygenated hydrocarbons were identified as 55.6 % and non-oxygenated hydrocarbons as 43.6%. As major components were found carvacrol (35.6%), p-cymene (21.0%), thymol (18.6%), gamma-terpinene (12.3%), alpha-terpinene (3.2%), beta-myrcene (3.0%) and alpha-thujene (1.3%) by hydrodistillation and by the GC/MS method. The direct thermal desorption GC/MS analysis also showed the same major components, namely carvacrol (51.6%), thymol (21.7%), p-cymene (9.7%) gamma-terpinene (8.2%), alpha-terpinene (1.64%). It has been suggested that reactive oxygen species (ROS) plays an important role in radio contrast media (RCM)‐induced ischemia reperfusion tissue injury although antioxidants may have protective effects on the injury. We investigated the effects of erdosteine as an antioxidant agent on RCM‐induced liver toxicity in rats by evaluation of lipid peroxidation (as TBARS), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), reduced glutathione (GSH) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH‐Px) values and histological evaluation. Twenty‐one rats were equally divided into three groups as follows: control, RCM, and RCM plus erdosteine. RCM was intraperitoneally administered for 1 day. Erdosteine was administered orally for 2 days after RCM administration. Liver samples were taken from the rats and they homogenized in a motor‐driven tissue homogenizer. TBARS levels were significantly (p < 0.005) higher in RCM group than in control although SOD activities significantly (p < 0.05) decreased in RCM group. TBARS levels were lower in RCM plus erdosteine group than in control although SOD activity and GSH level increased (p < 0.05) in liver as compared to RCM alone. Erdosteine showed also histopathological protection (p < 0.0001) against RCM induced hepatotoxicity. GSH‐Px and CAT activities were not statistically changed by the erdosteine. According to our results, it can be concluded that radiocontrast media can induce oxidative stress in liver as suggested by previous studies. Erdosteine seems to be protective agent on the radiocontrast media‐induced liver toxicity by inhibiting the production of ROS via the enzymatic antioxidant system. In this study an ornamental plant of Althaea rosea Cavan was investigated for its potential use in the removal of Cd, Ni, Pb and Cu from an artificially contaminated soil. Effect of two different chelating agents on the removal has also been studied by using EDTA (ethylenediaminetetracetic acid) and TA (tannic acid). Both EDTA and TA have led to higher heavy metal concentration in shoots and leaves compared to control plants. However EDTA is generally known as an effective agent in metal solubilisation of soil, in this study, TA was found more effective to induce metal accumulation in Althaea rosea Cavan under the studied conditions. In addition to this, EDTA is toxic to some species and restraining the growth of the plants. The higher BCF (Bio Concentration Factor) and TF (Translocation Factor) values obtained from stems and leaves by the effects of the chemical enhancers (EDTA and TA) show that Althaea rosea Cavan is a hyper accumulator for the studied metals and may be cultivated to clean the contaminated soils. 相似文献

Two lichen metabolites, rhizonaldehyde ( 1 ) and rhizonyl alcohol ( 2 ), were isolated from the acetone extract of Lobaria pulmonaria by chromatographic methods, and their chemical structures were determined by UV/VIS, IR, and 1D‐ and 2D‐NMR spectroscopic methods. The gastroprotective and in vivo antioxidant activities of extracts of L. pulmonaria and its metabolites, 1 and 2 , were investigated in indomethacin‐induced ulcer models in rats. The gastric lesions were significantly reduced by acetone, hexane, and CHCl3 extracts, with 75.3–41.5% inhibition. Rhizonyl alcohol ( 2 ) significantly reduced the gastric lesions with an inhibition rate of 84.6–42.8%, whereas rhizonaldehyde ( 1 ) significantly increased the gastric lesions. Antioxidant parameters and myeloperoxidase activities were also evaluated in the gastric tissues of the rats. Indomethacin caused oxidative stress, which resulted in lipid peroxidation in gastric tissues by decreasing the levels of the antioxidants as compared to healthy rat tissues. In contrast to indomethacin, all extracts and rhizonyl alcohol ( 2 ) caused a significant decrease in lipid peroxidation levels and an increase in antioxidant parameters, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and glutathione‐S‐transferase, and reduced glutathione in gastric tissues. The administration of rhizonyl alcohol ( 2 ) also resulted in a decrease in gastric myeloperoxidase activity increased by indomethacin. The gastroprotective effect of rhizonyl alcohol ( 2 ) can be attributed to its antioxidant properties and its suppressing effect on neutrophil infiltration into gastric tissues. 相似文献
