Erdosteine is a mucolytic agent having antioxidant properties through its active metabolites in acute injuries induced by
pharmacological drugs. This study was designed to investigate the renoprotective potential of Erdosteine against gentamicin
(GM)-induced renal dysfunction by using Technetium-99 m dimercaptosuccinic acid (Tc-99 m DMSA) uptake and scintigraphy in
rats. For this purpose, male Wistar rats were randomly allotted into one of the four experimental groups: Control, Erdosteine,
GM, and GM + Erdosteine groups. GM and GM + Erdosteine groups received 100 mg/kg GM intramuscularly for 6 days. In addition,
Erdosteine and GM + Erdosteine groups received 50 mg/kg Erdosteine orally for 6 days. Renal function tests were assessed by
serum blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine levels, as well as scintigraphic and tissue radioactivity measurements with Tc-99 m
DMSA. Renal oxidative damage was determined by renal malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, by antioxidant enzyme activities; superoxide
dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) and activities of oxidant enzymes; xanthine oxidase (XO) and myeloperoxidase (MPO). GM
administration resulted in marked renal lipid peroxidation, increased XO and MPO activities and decreased antioxidant enzyme
activities. GM + Erdosteine group significantly had lower MDA levels, higher SOD and CAT activities and lower XO and MPO activities,
when compared to GM. Also GM + Erdosteine had lower levels of serum BUN, creatinine and higher renal tissue Tc-99 m DMSA uptake
and radioactivity with respect to GM. In conclusion, our results supported a protective role of Erdosteine in nephrotoxicity

The distribution of Vipio Latreille, 1804 species (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Braconinae) within eight phytogeographical provinces in Turkey is presented
on the basis of field studies during 1980–2004. A total of twelve species were found, and the majority of species were associated
with the Subeuxin, Euxin, Xeroeuxin and Mediterranean provinces. Vipio humerator (Costa, 1885), V. longicauda (Boheman, 1853) and V. tentator (Rossi, 1790) were the most common species in Turkey, and V. mlokossewiczi Kokoujev, 1898 is a new record for the Turkish fauna. Summary A study was conducted of the growth of Saccharomyces (S.) and non-Saccharomyces populations during alcoholic fermentation of Emir and Kalecik karasi grape varieties in the 1998 and 1999 vintages. Kloeckera (Kl.) apiculata, Kluyveromyces (K.) thermotolerans, S. cerevisiae and Candida (C.) pulcherrima were the dominant yeasts in fermentation of the 1998 vintage in Emir must. Kl. apiculata and K. thermotolerans proliferated at the beginning of the fermentation. The number of these yeasts eventually decreased when S. cerevisiae appeared as the dominant yeast on day four. But they remained until the end of the fermentation. Kl. apiculata, C. dattilla, C. pulcherrima, C. krusei and S. cerevisiae were found during the fermentation of the 1999 vintage Emir must. The count of S. cerevisiae was very high in the juice, but after skin fermentation and cold treatment, it disappeared and could not be isolated until
day six of the fermentation. Kl. apiculata and C. dattilla were the dominant yeasts until S. cerevisiae started proliferation after the middle of the fermentation. Kl. apiculata, Metschnikowia (M.) pulcherrima, S. cerevisiae, C. holmii, C. valida, C. guillermondii and Candida sp. were isolated during the fermentation of Kalecik karasi must in 1998. Kl. apiculata, C. pulcherrima, S. cerevisiae, C. holmii and C. valida were identified in fermentation of must in the 1999 vintage.

The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of zinc deficiency and supplementation on lipid peroxidation and glutathione
levels in blood and in some tissues of rats performing swimming exercise. Forty adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided
into four groups: group 1, zinc-deficient consisted of swimming rats; group 2 consisted of zinc-supplemented swimming rats;
groups 3 and 4 were the swimming and nonswimming controls, respectively. The levels of malondialdehyde and glutathione were
measured after 4 wk of zinc-deficient or zinc-supplemented diet and 30 min of swimming exercise daily.
The erythrocyte glutathione levels of groups 2 and 4 were significantly higher than those of groups 1 and 3 (p<0.01). The plasma malondialdehyde level of group 1 was significantly higher than all other groups. The glutathione levels
in liver, kidney, striated muscle, and testes of group 2 were higher than in the other groups (p<0.01) and higher in kidney and striated muscle of group 3 than in groups 1 and 4 (p<0.01). The tissue malondialdehyde levels of striated muscle, liver, kidney, and testes of group 1 were significantly higher
than for all other groups (p<0.01). Our findings suggest that both swimming exercise and zinc deficiency result in an increase of lipid peroxidation in

The Michael-Claisen domino (MCD) cyclization used in the lycopodine synthesis by Stork, was evaluated mechanistically using DFT calculations. Calculations suggest that a dianion is not formed, which conforms to classical dianion formation normally requiring strong kinetic bases. Instead ethoxide in ethanol produces a monoanionic species driving the MCD cyclization. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection of the cornea culminates in an immunopathological lesion (stromal keratitis--SK) that impairs vision. This report shows that HSV infection results in IL-23 up-regulation, but if this response fails to occur, as was noted in p19-/- mice, the severity of lesions, their incidence and the level of viral induced angiogenesis were significantly increased compared to wild-type (WT) animals (p<0.05). The higher disease severity in p19-/- mice appeared to be the consequence of an increased IL-12 response that in turn led to the induction of higher numbers of IFN-gamma producing CD4(+)T cells, the principal orchestrators of SK. Our results indicate that the severity of HSV induced immunopathological lesions may be mainly the consequence of IL-12 driven Th1 T cell reactions rather than the action of IL-17 producing cells controlled by IL-23. 相似文献

The aim of this study is to investigate the genetic influence of polymorphisms in fat mass and obesity associated (FTO) gene on a sample of obese subjects and controls. Obesity is an epidemic all over the world. Several polymorphisms in the first intron of FTO gene have been associated with common forms of human obesity. In this research rs1421085 and rs9939609 polymorphisms of FTO gene were genotyped in 190 obese patients with a BMI ≥30 kg/m2 (Body Mass Index) and 97 healthy controls with a BMI of 18.5–24.9. Genotyping of SNPs was performed by real-time polymerase chain reaction. Body composition was established with bioelectric impedance analysis. Waist-to-hip ratio was determined for all participants. There were no significant differences (P > 0.05) between obese cases and controls in terms of genotype frequencies of rs1421085 and rs9939609 polymorphisms in our study. Also there were no significant correlations between genotypes and obesity related (anthropometric-body composition) parameters (P > 0.05). 相似文献

The dried rhizomes of Veratrum album were individually extracted with CHCl3, acetone, and NH4OH/benzene to test the toxic effects against the Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata, which is an important agricultural pest. Fifteen compounds in various amounts were isolated from the extracts using column and thin‐layer chromatography. The chemical structures of 14 compounds were characterized as octacosan‐1‐ol ( 1 ), β‐sitosterol ( 2 ), stearic acid ( 3 ), diosgenin ( 4 ), resveratrol ( 5 ), wittifuran X ( 6 ), oxyresveratrol ( 7 ), β‐sitosterol 3‐O‐β‐D ‐glucopyranoside ( 8 ), diosgenin 3‐O‐α‐L ‐rhamnopyranosyl‐(1→2)‐β‐D ‐glucopyronoside ( 9 ), oxyresveratrol 3‐O‐β‐D ‐glucopyranoside ( 10 ), jervine ( 11 ), pseudojervine ( 13 ), 5,6‐dihydro‐1‐hydroxyjervine ( 14 ), and saccharose ( 15 ) using UV, IR, MS, 1H‐ and 13C‐NMR, and 2D‐NMR spectroscopic methods. However, the chemical structure of 12 , an oligosaccharide, has not fully been elucidated. Compounds 4, 6, 9 , and 10 were isolated from V. album rhizomes for the first time in the current study. The toxic effects of three extracts (acetone, CHCl3, and NH4OH/benzene) and six metabolites, 2, 2 + 4, 5, 7, 8 , and 11 , were evaluated against the Colorado potato beetle. The assay revealed that all three extracts, and compounds 7, 8 , and 11 exhibited potent toxic effects against this pest. This is the first report on the evaluation of the toxic effects of the extracts and secondary metabolites of V. album rhizomes against L. decemlineata. The aim of this study was to design and evaluate of mucoadhesive gel formulations for the vaginal application of clomiphene
citrate (CLM) for local treatment of human papilloma virus (HPV) infections. Chitosan (CHI) and polycarbophil (PC) were covalently
modified using the thioglycolic acid and L-cysteine, respectively. The formation of thiol conjugates of chitosan (CHI-TG)
and polycarbophil (PC-CYS) were confirmed by FT-IR analysis and PC-CYS and CHI-TG were found to have 148.42 ± 4.16 and 41.17 ± 2.34 μmol
of thiol groups per gram of polymer, respectively. One percent CLM gels were prepared by combination of various concentrations
of PC and CHI with thiolated conjugates of these polymers. Hardness, compressibility, elasticity, adhesiveness and cohesiveness
of the gels were measured by Texture profile analysis and the vaginal mucoadhesion was investigated by mucoadhesion test.
The increasing in the amount of the thiol conjugates was found to enhance the elasticity, cohesiveness, adhesiveness and mucoadhesion
of the gel formulations but not their hardness and compressibility when compared to gels prepared using their respective parent
formulations. Slower release rate of CLM from gels was achieved when the polymer concentrations were increased in the gel
formulations. PC and its thiol conjugate were found to prolong the release of CLM longer than 70 h unlike gel formulations
prepared using CHI and its thiol conjugate which were able to release CLM up to 12 h. Stability of CLM was preserved during
the 3 month stability analysis under controlled room temperature and accelerated conditions. 相似文献
