Length–weight relationships (LWR) were estimated for six fish species from the Cujubim lake on the Madeira River. The specimens were sampled between in the months of March and November, 2019 and February, 2020 using gillnets (10 × 5 m, mesh size 40, 60, 80 and 100 mm) which were checked every 6 hr during a 24-hr period and casting nets (1.25 × 2.7 m, mesh size 40 mm) performed three times in this interval. This study reports new maximum lengths for four species and a new tentative LWR for one species.  相似文献

Long calls by flanged male Bornean orang‐utans (Pongo pygmaeus wurmbii) serve as a long‐distance communication signal in this semi‐solitary species and allow individuals to adjust their ranging behavior. Long calls can be heard up to circa 1 km in dense rainforest. Only flanged males emit them, in various contexts: spontaneously (where no disturbances from the environment are perceived by human observers), when highly aroused by another male’s long call or a falling tree nearby, or right after having pushed over a dead tree themselves. In this study, acoustic analyses of orang‐utan long calls at Tuanan in Central Kalimantan not only confirm the discrimination of individual males by their long calls but also demonstrate the discrimination of context based on the long calls’ acoustic structure, which is further supported by the females’ ranging responses according to long call contexts. Females with dependent offspring move away from spontaneous long call sources but appear to ignore long calls elicited by disturbance. Hence, Bornean orang‐utan females perceive measurable differences in acoustic characteristics of long calls given in different contexts. These findings concur with vocal discrimination of contexts in other non‐human primates.  相似文献

We have analyzed the dynamics of the rice etioplast membrane proteome during the early phase of de-etiolation using iTRAQ-based relative protein quantification. Several hundred plastid proteins were identified from enriched membranes, including 36 putative transporters. Hierarchical clustering revealed the coordinated light induction of thylakoid membrane proteins with proteins involved in translation and fatty acid metabolism. No other functional category of identified proteins showed a similarly consistent light induction, and no consistent changes were observed for the identified transporters. This suggests that the etioplast metabolism is already primed to accommodate the metabolic changes that occur during the onset of photosynthesis. This hypothesis was further tested in metabolite profiling experiments. Here, the changes upon illumination are mostly restricted to a decrease in the concentration of some amino acids and an increase in the concentrations of aspartic acid, malic acid, fumaric acid, and succinic acid. These changes are consistent with a rapid activation of photosynthesis and subsequent rapid production of storage carbohydrates and proteins. The information at the proteome level and the parallel measurements of metabolite accumulation both support the view that only minor metabolic network reconstruction and modification of enzyme levels occurs during the first 4?h of etioplast to chloroplast differentiation.  相似文献

Polyclonal antisera raised against two different azobenzoyl-oestrone derivatives were analysed to investigate both the latency/intensity relationship of the immune response and the influence of antigen presentation on the specificity of the antisera elicited. Elongation of the azo-bridge of the hapten ([p(carboxyphenyl)-azo]-1,3,5[10]-oestratrien-3 ol-17 one) with a short aliphatic chain (4-amino-n-butyric acid) resulted in a marginal increase in the antibody yield, without affecting the time required to attain the maximum titre. The increased flexibility and mobility of the extended azo-bridge was shown to result in the appearance of antisera which cross-reacted with oestrogens with D ring structures different to that of oestrone. Antiserum fractionation by affinity chromatography through a stationary phase exposing the carrier protein determinants, as modified by the addition of the coupling bridge and the phenol ring, resulted in a reduction in its specificity. These findings are discussed with regard to the phenomena underlying specipecificity of a polyclonal antiserum.  相似文献

Cathepsin V is a lysosomal cysteine peptidase highly expressed in thymus, testis and corneal epithelium. Eleven acridone alkaloids were isolated from Swinglea glutinosa (Bl.) Merr. (Rutaceae), with eight of them being identified as potent and reversible inhibitors of cathepsin V (IC(50) values ranging from 1.2 to 3.9 μM). Detailed mechanistic characterization of the effects of these compounds on the cathepsin V-catalyzed reaction showed clear competitive inhibition with respect to substrate, with dissociation constants (K(i)) in the low micromolar range (2, K(i)=1.2 μM; 6, K(i)=1.0 μM; 7, K(i)=0.2 μM; and 11, K(i)=1.7 μM). Molecular modeling studies provided important insight into the structural basis for binding affinity and enzyme inhibition. Experimental and computational approaches, including biological evaluation, mode of action assessment and modeling studies were successfully employed in the discovery of a small series of acridone alkaloid derivatives as competitive inhibitors of catV. The most potent inhibitor (7) has a K(i) value of 200 nM.  相似文献

In plants, γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) accumulates in the cytosol in response to a variety of stresses. GABA is transported into mitochondria, where it is catabolized into TCA cycle or other intermediates. Although there is circumstantial evidence for mitochondrial GABA transporters in eukaryotes, none have yet been identified. Described here is an Arabidopsis protein similar in sequence and topology to unicellular GABA transporters. The expression of this protein complements a GABA-transport-deficient yeast mutant. Thus the protein was termed AtGABP to indicate GABA-permease activity. In vivo localization of GABP fused to GFP and immunobloting of subcellular fractions demonstrate its mitochondrial localization. Direct [(3) H]GABA uptake measurements into isolated mitochondria revealed impaired uptake into mitochondria of a gabp mutant compared with wild-type (WT) mitochondria, implicating AtGABP as a major mitochondrial GABA carrier. Measurements of CO(2) release, derived from radiolabeled substrates in whole seedlings and in isolated mitochondria, demonstrate impaired GABA-derived input into the TCA cycle, and a compensatory increase in TCA cycle activity in gabp mutants. Finally, growth abnormalities of gabp mutants under limited carbon availability on artificial media, and in soil under low light intensity, combined with their metabolite profiles, suggest an important role for AtGABP in primary carbon metabolism and plant growth. Thus, AtGABP-mediated transport of GABA from the cytosol into mitochondria is important to ensure proper GABA-mediated respiration and carbon metabolism. This function is particularly essential for plant growth under conditions of limited carbon.  相似文献

Neuroblastoma (NB) represents the most common extracranial paediatric solid tumor for which no specific FDA-approved treatment is currently available. The tyrosine kinase c-Src has been reported to play an important role in the differentiation, cell-adhesion and survival of NB cells. Starting from dual Src/Abl inhibitors previously found active in NB cell lines (1-3), small modification of the original structures almost abolished the Abl activity with a contemporary improvement of affinity and specificity for c-Src. Among the synthesized compounds, the most potent c-Src inhibitor (10a) showed a very interesting antiproliferative activity in SH-SY5Y cells with an IC(50) of 80 nM and a favourable ADME profile. A 3D SAR analysis was also attempted and may guide the design of more potent c-Src inhibitors as potential agents for NB treatment.  相似文献

Estuaries are often considered sinks for contaminants and the cleanup of salt marshes, sensitive ecosystems with a major ecological role, should be carried out by means of least intrusive approaches, such as bioremediation. This study was designed to evaluate the influence of plant–microorganisms associations on petroleum hydrocarbons fate in salt marshes of a temperate estuary (Lima River, NW Portugal). Sediments un-colonized and colonized (rhizosediments) by different plants (Juncus maritimus, Phragmites australis, Triglochin striata and Spartina patens) were sampled in four sites of the lower and middle estuary for hydrocarbon degrading microorganisms (HD), total cell counts (TCC) and total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) assessment. In general, TPHs, HD and TCC were significantly higher (P < 0.05) in rhizosediments than in un-colonized sediments. Also recorded were differences on the abundance of hydrocarbon degraders among the rhizosediment of the different plants collected at the same site (J. maritimus < P. australis < T. striata), with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05) between J. maritimus and T. striata. Moreover, strong positive correlations—0.81 and 0.84 (P < 0.05), between biotic (HD) and abiotic (organic matter content) parameters and TPHs concentrations were also found. Our data clearly suggest that salt marsh plants can influence the microbial community, by fostering the development of hydrocarbon-degrading microbial populations in its rhizosphere, an effect observed for all plants. This effect, combined with the plant capability to retain hydrocarbons around the roots, points out that salt marsh plant–microorganisms associations may actively contribute to hydrocarbon removal and degradation in estuarine environments.  相似文献
