A stable ESR signal, centred at g = 2.0037 +/- 0.0002, characterised by a single resonance and assignable to a free radical, was found in all the bottled red wines, both commercial and experimental, that we have examined. The radical concentration was calculated to be in the range of 5-82 nM. After exposure of the wines to air for a few minutes a two fold increase of the ESR signal, followed by a slow decrease with time, was observed. The intensity of ESR signal in experimental red wines, was found to increase with the ageing of the wines and was strictly correlated to the total content of polyphenols. The formation of semiquinone radicals of polyphenols is suggested as one possible mechanism leading to the presence of stable free radicals in red wines.  相似文献

Background

Comprehensive evaluation of the morphology of the spine and of the whole body is essential in order to correctly manage patients suffering from progressive idiopathic scoliosis. Although methodology of clinical and radiological examination is well described in manuals of orthopaedics, there is deficit of data which clinical and radiological parameters are considered in everyday practise. Recently, an increasing tendency to extend scoliosis examination beyond the measure of the Cobb angle can be observed, reflecting a more patient-oriented approach. Such evaluation often involves surface parameters, aesthetics, function and quality of life.

Aim of the study

To investigate current recommendations of experts on methodology of evaluation of the patient with spinal deformity, essentially idiopathic scoliosis.

Methods

Structured Delphi procedure for collecting and processing knowledge from a group of experts with a series of questionnaires and controlled opinion feedback was performed. Experience and opinions of the professionals - physicians and physiotherapists managing scoliosis patients - were studied. According to Delphi method a Meeting Questionnaire (MQ) has been developed, resulting from a preliminary Pre-Meeting Questionnaire (PMQ) which had been previously discussed and approved on line. The MQ was circulated among the SOSORT experts during Consensus Session on "Measurements" which took place at the Annual Meeting of the Society, totally 23 panellists being engaged. Clinical, radiological and surface topography parameters were checked for agreement.

Results

90% agreement or more was reached in 35 items and superior than 75% agreement was reached in further 25 items. An evaluation form was proposed to be used by clinicians and researchers.

Conclusion

The consensus was reached on evaluation of the morphology of the patient with idiopathic scoliosis, comprising clinical, radiological and, to less extend, surface topography assessment. Considering the variety of parameters indicated by the panellists, the Cobb angle, yet the gold standard, can be seen neither as the unique nor the only decisive parameter in the management of patients with idiopathic scoliosis.  相似文献

Nectar robbery is usually thought to impact negatively on the reproductive success of plants, but also neutral or even positive effects have been reported. Very few studies have investigated the effects of nectar robbing on the behaviour of legitimate pollinators so far. Such behavioural changes may lead to the reduction of geitonogamy or to increased pollen movement. We simulated nectar robbing in experimental sites as well as in natural populations of Aconitum napellus ssp. lusitanicum, a rare plant pollinated by long-tongued bumblebees. In an experimental setup, we removed the nectaries of 40 % of the flowers, which is similar to rates of robbing observed in wild populations. Patches of plants with experimentally robbed flowers were compared with control patches containing plants with untreated flowers. We observed pollinator behaviour, mimicked male reproductive success (pollen dispersal) using fluorescent dye, and measured female reproductive success (seed set). The main legitimate visitors were bumblebees while honeybees were often observed robbing nectar. They did so by “base working”, i.e. sliding between tepals. Bumblebees tended to visit fewer flowers per plant and spent less time per single flower when these had been experimentally robbed. This change in behaviour consequently increased the proportion of flowers visited by bumblebees in patches with robbed flowers. Fluorescent dye mimicking pollen flow was dispersed larger distances after pollinators had visited patches with robbed flowers compared to control patches. Average seed set per plant was not affected by nectar robbing. Our results demonstrated that A. napellus does not suffer from nectar robbery but may rather benefit via improved pollen dispersal and thus, male reproductive success. Knowledge on such combined effects of behavioural changes of pollinators due to nectar robbery is important to understand the evolutionary significance of exploiters of such mutualistic relationships between plants and their pollinators.  相似文献

Azospirillum species are plant-associated diazotrophs of the alpha subclass of Proteobacteria. The genomes of five of the six Azospirillum species were analyzed by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis. All strains possessed several megareplicons, some probably linear, and 16S ribosomal DNA hybridization indicated multiple chromosomes in genomes ranging in size from 4.8 to 9.7 Mbp. The reaction of the copper of (Cu,Zn)-superoxide dismutase with diethyldithiocarbamate was studied at pH = 7.4 and the results obtained led to a reaction scheme basically different from the conclusion of a previous study (Misra, H. P. (1979) J. Biol. Chem. 254, 11623-11628). The analysis of optical and ESR spectra at 9 and 35 GHz, at different ligand/protein ratios and reaction times, showed that a ternary diethyldithiocarbamate. Cu(II).protein complex never formed in spectroscopically detectable amounts. The system is described in any condition as the mixture, in variable proportions, of only two components, that is the diethyldithiocarbamate-free (Cu(II) chelate and the copper-depleted protein. The formation of a catalytically active copper-diethyldithiocarbamate intermediate with distinct optical and ESR spectra was also ruled out by kinetic studies, which demonstrated that enzyme inactivation strictly parallels the binding of diethyldithiocarbamate as monitored by optical absorption and ESR. Separation of the copper complex from the protein was obtained for the first time, and the procedure was suitable for rapid preparation of reconstitutable copper-free superoxide dismutase.  相似文献

The dependence of the magnetic relaxation rates of1H and19F on temperature, frequency, pH and N 3 - concentration, were measured in solutions of Manganese-containing superoxide dismutase ofBacillus stearothermophilus, and were compared to activity measurements, in order to obtain some information on the structure and dynamics at Mn(III) present in the active site of the enzyme. The experimental data lead us to hypothesize the presence of two binding sites in the coordination sphere of the enzyme bound Mn(III), which are accessible to water and anions and have different chemical and spectroscopic properties. NMR measurements carried out in the presence of competitive inhibitors and the pH dependence of both NMR relaxation rates suggest that F-, N 3 - and OH- ions bind to one site, while a water molecule binds to the other one. The stability constant values of the complexes between these anions and the enzyme are reported.
