Gallium phosphide exhibits a short diffusion length relative to its optical absorption length, and is thus a candidate for use in wire array geometries that allow light absorption to be decoupled from minority carrier collection. Herein is reported the photoanodic performance of heteroepitaxially grown gallium phosphide on planar and microwire‐array Si substrates. The n‐GaP|n‐Si heterojunction results in a favorable conduction band alignment for electron collection in the silicon. A conformal electrochemical contact to the outer GaP layer is produced using the ferrocenium/ferrocene (Fc+/Fc) redox couple in acetonitrile. Photovoltages of ~750 mV under 1 sun illumination are observed and are attributed to the barrier formed at the (Fc+/Fc)|n‐GaP junction. The short‐circuit current densities of the composite microwire‐arrays are similar to those observed using single‐crystal n‐GaP photoelectrodes. Spectral response measurements along with a finite‐difference‐time‐domain optical model indicate that the minority carrier diffusion length in the GaP is ~80 nm. Solid‐state current–voltage measurements show that shunting occurs through thin GaP layers that are present near the base of the microwire‐arrays. The results provide guidance for further studies of 3D multi‐junction photoelectrochemical cells.  相似文献

A survey of Haemophilus influenzae strains indicated that around one-third of capsular strains and over two-thirds of non-typeable strains included sialic acid in their lipopolysaccharides (LPS). Mutation of the CMP-Neu5Ac synthetase gene (siaB) resulted in a sialylation-deficient phenotype. Isogenic pairs, wild type and siaB mutant of two non-typeable strains were used to demonstrate that sialic acid influences resistance to the killing effect of normal human serum but has little effect on attachment to, or invasion of, cultured human epithelial cells or neutrophils. We determine for the first time the site of attachment of sialic acid in the LPS of a non-typeable strain and report that a small proportion of glycoforms include two sialic acid residues in a disaccharide unit.  相似文献

A palynological study was carried out on four Italian Miocene‐Pliocene sections ranging in age from uppermost Tortonian to Zanclean located on the Adriatic side of the North‐Central Apennines. The study documents the Mediterranean isolation, the salinity crisis (s.s), the “lago‐mare”; event and the re‐establishment of open‐marine conditions in the Mediterranean at the beginning of the Pliocene. From a climatic point of view, a transition from subtropical/warm‐temperate conditions during the Messinian to warm‐temperate/temperate conditions during the Zanclean is recorded. The presence of a lower thermic level, with respect to the Messinian, the re‐establishment of open‐marine conditions and the uplift of the Apennines were major factors controlling paleoenvironmental variations during the Zanclean. The latter is also characterized by cyclic temperature oscillations. Correlations with coeval sections in the Mediterranean area confirm the existence of latitudinal climatic gradients within the studied area.  相似文献

In vertebrates, establishment and maintenance of cohesin‐dependent linkages depend on two distinct proteins, sororin and shugoshin. Previous observations reported by our group indicate that 2.45 GHz microwave fields at specific absorption rate (SAR) of 5.6 W/kg reduce the enzyme activity rate of ascorbate oxidase (AO) trapped in liposomes. In this study, we report dose-response studies on these AO containing liposomes irradiated at different SAR values (1.4, 2.8, 4.2, and 5.6 W/kg). No response was observed for SAR below 5.6 W/kg. Liposomes entrapping functional AO in its deglycated form (AO-D) were also used. In this case, no MW related enzyme activity changes were observed, demonstrating a direct involvement of oligosaccharide chains of AO. Furthermore, the catalytic properties of both AO and AO-D were not impaired by MW irradiation, neither in homogeneous solution nor loaded in liposomes, excluding possible changes in the conformation of enzyme as a mechanism. Our results suggest that the oligosaccharide chains of AO are critical to elicit the microwave observed effects on lipid membrane.  相似文献
