We describe for the first time the sexual behavior and the courtship song of males of the African fly Zaprionus indianus (Gupta), a recent invader of South America. The male courtship song is formed by monocyclic pulses and the courtship behavior is simple when compared to that of species of Drosophila. Two interpulse interval (IPI) distributions were observed: pre-mounting and mounting. No significant difference was observed between the pre-mounting IPIs of males that descended from three geographical populations from South America. We also observed the songs produced by females and the homosexual behavior exhibited by males. A sequence of bursts is produced by females as a refusal signal against males, while males emit a characteristic song that identifies sex genus, which differs from the courtship song. The short courtship and mating latencies recorded reveal vigorous males and receptive females, respectively. 相似文献

Neural progenitor cells can be derived from a variety of developmental stages when they are preferentially proliferating, undergoing neurogenesis or undergoing gliogenesis. We used FACS sorting and the LeX surface marker to enrich neural progenitor cells from different embryonic stages and adult and compared their gene expression profiles using Affymetrix Microarrays. Our results show that, while there are common genes expressed in the progenitor cell population from all stages, there are also significant differences in gene expression patterns that correlate with stage-related behaviors. These data indicate that progenitor cells change during development and that adult and embryonic neural progenitor cells are intrinsically different. 相似文献

It was shown by autoradiography in previous papers that RNA which is synthesized before mitosis and located in the nuclei, enters the cytoplasm at the onset of mitosis and returns to the nuclei of the daughter cells after mitosis. In order to study thenature of this migrating RNA we performed a sedimentation analysis of RNA isolated from the cytoplasm and chromosomes (nuclei) of metaphase and interphase cells in the synchronized culture of the Chinese hamster. Whereas the cytoplasm of interphase cells is found to contain RNA with sedimentation constants not higher than 28S, the cytoplasm of metaphase cells includes precursors of ribosomal and messenger RNA with sedimentation constants 32S, 45S and even higher. This means that RNA migrating from nuclei to cytoplasm during cell division retains its nuclear character. It is suggested that this property provides for the return of RNA synthesized before mitosis to the nuclei of the daughter cells. 相似文献

According to recent data, the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is involved in schizophrenia. An association of the Val66Met polymorphism of the BDNF gene has been reported, but the results of different studies are discrepant. The allele and genotype frequency distributions of BDNF were studied in 783 schizophrenics and 633 mentally healthy controls. Significant between-group differences were not detected. When the patients were stratified by sex and schizophrenia form, men with continuous (chronic) schizophrenia were found to have a significantly higher frequency of the Val/Val genotype as compared to men with the episodic form (P = 0.047). Clinical symptoms assessed by the PANSS in men with the Val/Val genotype were more severe than in men with the Met/Met genotype (P = 0.044). No difference in BDNF genotype frequency distribution was observed between female groups differing in disease form or the severity of clinical symptoms. It was concluded that the association of the Val66Met polymorphism with schizophrenia is affected by the sex of patients and clinical heterogeneity of the disease and that the Val/Val genotype is associated with more severe schizophrenia in males. 相似文献

DNA polymerase found in an extract from eggs of the teleost fish Misgurnus fossilis (loach) has been identified as an enzyme of the type. The enzyme was purified 4000- to 5000-fold from the extract by liquid chromatography. The DNA polymerase activity was sensitive to the inhibiting action of aphidicolin but resistant to N2-(p-n-butylphenyl)-2´- deoxyguanosine 5´-triphosphate (BuPdGTP). The enzyme activity correlates with the presence of a polypeptide with molecular mass of 120-130 kD that interacts specifically with polyclonal antibodies against calf thymus DNA polymerase as revealed by Western blotting and is presumably the catalytic subunit of the enzyme. The loach DNA polymerase possesses the 3´5´-exonuclease activity specific to single-stranded DNA and catalyzes distributive elongation of primers in primer–template complexes. 相似文献

The review concerns morpho-functional characteristics of orexin receptors. The data on their structure, signal transduction pathways, biological effects of orexin receptors 1 or 2 depending on association with different G-proteins are presented. Localisation of orexin receptors in various CNS structures as well as in peripheral organs mediates regulation of different physiological functions by orexins. Low concentration of orexins in peripheral blood and orexin-containing cells in ganglions and internal organs suggests a possibility to activate orexin-sensitive cells distantly, paracrinely or autocrinely. We propose the new approach to the synthesis of 5'-triphosphate derivatives of natural and modified dinucleotides with expanded functionality. Our strategy includes the combination of the solution phase synthesis of necessary dimers using the wide range of nucleic acids chemistry methods and the subsequent introduction of the triphosphate residue. A number of the new potential substrates for the template dependent synthesis of nucleic acids with expanded functionality are obtained, namely, 5'-triphosphates of dinucleotides containing the functionally active groups in heterocyclic bases, in carbohydrate-phosphate backbone, and the groups mimicking the residues of natural amino acids. The abilities of the proposed synthetic route are also demonstrated by the synthesis of 5'-triphosphates of dinucleotides with modified carbohydrate-phosphate backbone. 相似文献
