Recent investigations of Southeast Asian white toothed shrews belonging to the genus Crocidura have revealed discrepancies between the results of morphological and molecular studies. The following study concerns three species of Crocidura occurring in Vietnam, namely Crocidura attenuata, Crocidura tanakae and Crocidura wuchihensis, and an undescribed fourth species revealed by molecular analysis. For many years Crocidura attenuata has been known to occur in Vietnam but, until very recently, the morphologically similar and comparably sized Crocidura tanakae was believed to be restricted to Taiwan. Following several molecular studies over the last few years, this species is now believed to be considerably more widespread and recognised as occuring also in Vietnam. The results of one of these recent molecular studies also revealed the presence of an undescribed species of Crocidura, similar in size and morphology to Crocidura wuchihensis, which is herein described. Data are provided on geographical variation in Vietnam and the problems of defining morphologically similar yet molecularly disparate species are discussed. 相似文献

During 6 years, starting from 1986, the monitoring of the dynamics of the frequency of embryo lethal and of chlorophyll mutations was carried out in arabidopsis populations in areas with different levels of radioactive contamination by the Muller embryo-test in the 30 km of ChNPP. The dose rate of chronic irradiation in the examined areas varied from 0.014 to 17 nA/Kg. Monitoring of the dynamics of the mutation process in natural arabidopsis populations showed the correlation between the level of the mutation process and the dose rate of chronic irradiation. The genetic effects of different levels of radioactive contamination were estimated by determining the frequency of mutations occurred in this generation and by calculating the dose of irradiation of one was found. That the dependence of the mutation frequency on the dose of irradiation presents a power function with a power index less 1, which suggests a higher efficiency of low radiation doses per unit dose. Possible explanations of this phenomenon are considered in the work. The studies of cytogenetic effects in chronically exposed Crepis tectorum populations in the zones of the Chernobyl accident showed that starting from the second year after the Chernobyl disaster there appeared plants with an altered karyotype and their frequency of chromosome aberrations correlates in root meristem cells. 相似文献

Glutamate excitotoxicity amplifies neuronal death following stroke. We have explored the mechanisms underlying the collapse of mitochondrial potential (Deltapsi(m)) and loss of [Ca(2+)](c) homeostasis in rat hippocampal neurons in culture following toxic glutamate exposure. The collapse of Deltapsi(m) is multiphasic and Ca(2+)-dependent. Glutamate induced a decrease in NADH autofluorescence which preceded the loss of Deltapsi(m). Both the decrease in NADH signal and the loss of Deltapsi(m) were suppressed by Ru360 and both were delayed by inhibition of PARP (by 3-AB or DPQ). During this period, addition of mitochondrial substrates (methyl succinate and TMPD-ascorbate) or buffering [Ca(2+)](i) (using BAPTA-AM or EGTA-AM), rescued Deltapsi(m). These data suggest that mitochondrial Ca(2+) uptake activates PARP which in turn depletes NADH, promoting the initial collapse of Deltapsi(m). After > approximately 20 min, buffering Ca(2+) or substrate addition failed to restore Deltapsi(m). In neurons from cyclophilin D-/- (cypD-/-) mice or in cells treated with cyclosporine A, removal of Ca(2+) restored Deltapsi(m) even after 20 min of glutamate exposure, suggesting involvement of the mPTP in the irreversible depolarisation seen in WT cells. Thus, mitochondrial depolarisation represents two consecutive but distinct processes driving cell death, the first of which is reversible while the second is not. 相似文献

A six-year study, starting in 1987, was focused on the frequency of embryonic lethals and chlorophyll mutations that arose in developing seeds of Arabidopsis thaliana growing at sites varying in the level of radioactive contamination in the 30-km control region of the Chernobyl Atomic Power Plant. The dose rate of chronic irradiation varied from 200 μR/h to 2.4 R/h. To study the genetic effects of various levels of radioactive contamination, the frequency of mutations arising in a particular generation was determined and the irradiation dose was estimated for the given generation. The dose dependence of the mutation frequency proved to follow a power function with a power less than unity, suggesting a relatively high effect for low-dose irradiation. Various behavioural nociceptive reactions and individual resistance against stress were studied under conditions of stimulation of the immune processes by various techniques. The research problems included a study of influence of the immune stimulation with preparation "Imunofan" upon pain responses depending on individual resistance of animals to a stress, and the obtained results were compared with similar data in natural model of immune activation. To reveal central immune regulation of nociceptive reactions, imunofan was injected into brain ventricles. The work was carried out in 43 "Wistar" adult male rats. Free "open field" behaviour of animals was recorded to define a stress-resistance. Following nociceptive reactions, tail-flick to thermal stimuli; start, escape, jumping and vocalization to electrical skin stimulation, were studied. It was shown that intramuscular injection of imunofan (0.01 ml, 0.005% solution) depressed an active behaviour of animals in open field and reduced pain thresholds. This hyperalgesia was much higher in non-resistant rats in comparison to the resistant ones. Similar results were obtained in natural activation of immunity caused by operative procedure necessary for injection of imunofan into ventricles. The subfamilies Erinaceinae and Galericinae of the extant family Erinaceidae are the only living representatives of the once diverse taxon Erinaceomorpha. In the present study, we performed the first multilocus analysis of phylogenetic relationships among genera of Erinaceidae and estimated the split times between and within the two subfamilies. The analyses of five nuclear and two mitochondrial genes produced a well‐resolved molecular phylogeny. Generally, the molecular tree is compatible with the morphology‐based taxonomy proposed by Frost, Wozencraft & Hoffmann with the exception of the position of Mesechinus, which is placed as the closest sister taxon of Hemiechinus. Another point of contradiction between molecular and morphological phylogenies is the position of Hylomys megalotis, which was consistently placed as the most basal branch among all gymnures in molecular analyses. Genetic relationships between Erinaceus and Atelerix remain unclear, suggesting a hard trichotomy among these two lineages and Hemiechinus + Paraechinus. Molecular dating suggests an ancient origin of the extant gymnure lineages, which date back to the late Eocene to early Oligocene. The age of the basal split within spiny hedgehogs is relatively recent and corresponds to the Miocene–Pliocene boundary. Dendrimeric-T and dendrimeric-A with 36 nucleotides were synthesized using phosphoramidite reagents. These dendrimers contain the nucleosides dA and dT, which are the components of the dA-dT base pair. Branching was obtained using a bifurcated and trifurcated reagent. The dendrimers were purified by ion-exchange chromatography. No specific interactions between these dendrimers were observed using atomic force microscopy. However, the dendrimeric-T is able to disrupt monolayers of fatty acids, resulting in a reorientation of the lipids (from head-to-tail to head-to-head) as demonstrated by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). 相似文献
