Biomphalaria glabrata snails and egg-masses were exposed, for six to twenty-four hours to concentrations of 1, 10, 100 and 1000 ppm of Eugenol, O-methyleugenol, O-benzyleugenol and dehydrodieugenol. Only at 10 ppm O-benzyleugenol enhanced mortality of snails and egg-masses. The other substances showed ovicidal and molluscicidal activity only at 100 and 1000 ppm concentrations, causing a significant cardiac frequency reduction in snails after 6 to 24 hours of exposure as well as perduring low cardiac rates until 24 hours afterwards. Two specimen exposed to 100 ppm O-methyleugenol presented anesthetic effect and extrusion of copulator and urethral organs. No schistosomicide or anesthetic effects were observed in mice experimentally infected with Schistosoma mansoni and treated during 5 days with oral doses of 150 mg/kg of Eugenol, O-methyleugenol and O-benzyleugenol. 相似文献

Unlike males from other domestic species, domestic rams (Ovis aries) are not sexually stimulated, as determined by measuring sexual performance, following the opportunity to watch a copulating pair. Previously, we reported that aspects of ram sexual performance were improved when rams interacted with a male conspecific that had mated an estrous ewe. Whether the cues were gender-, estrous state-, or behavior-related was tested in this study. Sexually experienced rams were exposed to male pen mates that had interacted with an estrous ewe, a non-estrous ewe, an estrous ewe with a cloth perineal patch, or a ram, or that had been placed alone in a small pen. The rams were then tested for sexual performance. Rams performed more olfactory investigative behaviors toward pen mates that had interacted with a ewe, regardless of her estrous state, than toward a pen mate that had been exposed to another male. Rams exposed to pen mates that had interacted with a ewe also had shorter postejaculatory and interejaculation intervals and subsequently achieved more ejaculations in standardized sexual performance tests. Results from this experiment confirm that male-male interactions affect sexual performance in male sheep and that olfactory cues likely account for the transfer of information among individuals. 相似文献

Multivariate statistical tests used to assess purity of natural food products, such as fruit juices, do not assume prior knowledge about the most likely causes of adulteration. We describe a likelihood ratio test that has a directional alternate hypothesis so that prior knowlege about the most likely method of adulteration can be utilized. Critical regions for this statistic are based on a nonparametric tolerance interval, which makes it insensitive to an assumption of multivariate normality. This new test is compared to two tests currently used for identifying adulterated samples. ASPP2 is a pro-apoptotic protein that stimulates the p53-mediated apoptotic response. The C terminus of ASPP2 contains ankyrin (Ank) repeats and a SH3 domain, which mediate its interactions with numerous partner proteins such as p53, NFkappaB, and Bcl-2. It also contains a proline-rich domain (ASPP2 Pro), whose structure and function are unclear. Here we used biophysical and biochemical methods to study the structure and the interactions of ASPP2 Pro, to gain insight into its biological role. We show, using biophysical and computational methods, that the ASPP2 Pro domain is natively unfolded. We found that the ASPP2 Pro domain interacts with the ASPP2 Ank-SH3 domains, and mapped the interaction sites in both domains. Using a combination of peptide array screening, biophysical and biochemical techniques, we found that ASPP2 Ank-SH3, but not ASPP2 Pro, mediates interactions of ASPP2 with peptides derived from its partner proteins. ASPP2 Pro-Ank-SH3 bound a peptide derived from its partner protein NFkappaB weaker than ASPP2 Ank-SH3 bound this peptide. This suggested that the presence of the proline-rich domain inhibited the interactions mediated by the Ank-SH3 domains. Furthermore, a peptide from ASPP2 Pro competed with a peptide derived from NFkappaB on binding to ASPP2 Ank-SH3. Based on our results, we propose a model in which the interaction between the ASPP2 domains regulates the intermolecular interactions of ASPP2 with its partner proteins. 相似文献

Comparisons of the nervous systems of closely related invertebratespecies show that identified neurons tend to be highly conservedeven though the behaviors in which they participate vary. Allopisthobranch molluscs examined have a similar set of serotonin-immunoreactiveneurons located medially in the cerebral ganglion. In a smallnumber of species, these neurons have been physiologically andmorphologically identified. In the nudibranch, Tritonia diomedea,three of the neurons (the dorsal swim interneurons, DSIs) havebeen shown to be members of the central pattern generator (CPG)underlying dorsal/ventral swimming. The DSIs act as intrinsicneuromodulators, altering cellular and synaptic properties withinthe swim CPG circuit. Putative homologues of the DSIs have beenidentified in a number of other opisthobranchs. In the notaspid,Pleurobranchaea californica, the apparent DSI homologues (As13)play a similar role in the escape swim and they also have widespreadactions on other systems such as feeding and ciliary locomotion.In the gymnosomatid, Clione limacina, the presumed homologousneurons (Cr-SP) are not part of the swimming pattern generator,which is located in the pedal ganglia, but act as extrinsicmodulators, responding to noxious stimuli and increasing thefrequency of the swim motor program. Putative homologous neuronsare also present in non-swimming species such as the anaspid,Aplysia californica, where at least one of the cerebral serotonergicneurons, CC3 (CB-1), evokes neuromodulatory actions in responseto noxious stimuli.
