Plasma lipid transfer protein activity was completely blocked in rabbits for up to 48 h by infusion with goat antibody to rabbit lipid transfer protein. Lipid transfer protein activity in plasma of control animals, infused with antibody from a non-immune goat, decreased during the experiment but was never less than 50% of pre-infusion levels. During the period that lipid transfer protein activity was completely blocked, there were changes in high-density lipoprotein composition (expressed as % by weight) with a reduction in triacylglycerol from 8.4 +/- 2.4% to 1.0 +/- 0.2% (P less than 0.05) and an increase in esterified cholesterol from 10.7 +/- 1.7% to 14.5 +/- 0.3% (P less than 0.1). In conjunction with the observed changes in high-density lipoprotein composition, there was an increase in high-density lipoprotein particle size from a mean radius of 4.7 to 5.4 nm. The change in composition and particle size was not observed in high-density lipoproteins from control animals. There was a change in the distribution of plasma cholesterol in control animals, with a fall in the proportion of cholesterol in high-density lipoproteins (P less than 0.02) and consequently an increase in the proportion of cholesterol in low-density lipoproteins (P less than 0.02). However, the distribution of plasma cholesterol in animals in which lipid transfer protein activity was inhibited was maintained at original levels during the period of inhibition. Consequently, in these animals, there was a less atherogenic distribution of cholesterol during the period of lipid transfer protein inhibition when compared with control animals. The changes observed in lipoproteins, in the absence of lipid transfer protein activity, demonstrate that lipid transfer protein modifies lipoproteins in vivo and appears to contribute to a more atherogenic lipid profile. 相似文献

Botrytis cinerea is one of the most destructive pathogens of ve?getables and fruits both in the field and storage. There have been several research activities focused on developing biocontrol strategies for the pathogen due to its resistance to the commonly used synthetic fungicides. Additionally, concerns have been raised over residual effect of current synthetic fungicides used for its control. Most of these research activities have focused on Trichoderma spp., Ulocladium spp., Bacillus subtilis, plant extracts and their essential oils with some commercial products available on the market for the control of B. cinerea disease. Background
Adjuvant treatment with radioactive iodine (RAI) is often considered in the treatment of well-differentiated thyroid carcinoma (WDTC). We explored the recollections of thyroid cancer survivors on the diagnosis of WDTC, adjuvant radioactive iodine (RAI) treatment, and decision-making related to RAI treatment. Participants provided recommendations for healthcare providers on counseling future patients on adjuvant RAI treatment.Methods
We conducted three focus group sessions, including WDTC survivors recruited from two Canadian academic hospitals. Participants had a prior history of WDTC that was completely resected at primary surgery and had been offered adjuvant RAI treatment. Open-ended questions were used to generate discussion in the groups. Saturation of major themes was achieved among the groups.Findings
There were 16 participants in the study, twelve of whom were women (75%). All but one participant had received RAI treatment (94%). Participants reported that a thyroid cancer diagnosis was life-changing, resulting in feelings of fear and uncertainty. Some participants felt dismissed as not having a serious disease. Some participants reported receiving conflicting messages from healthcare providers on the appropriateness of adjuvant RAI treatment or insufficient information. If RAI-related side effects occurred, their presence was not legitimized by some healthcare providers.Conclusions
The diagnosis and treatment of thyroid cancer significantly impacts the lives of survivors. Fear and uncertainty related to a cancer diagnosis, feelings of the diagnosis being dismissed as not serious, conflicting messages about adjuvant RAI treatment, and treatment-related side effects, have been raised as important concerns by thyroid cancer survivors. 相似文献56.

A CHO mutant MI8-5 was found to synthesize Man9-GlcNAc2-P-P-dolichol rather
than Glc3Man9GlcNAc2-P-P-dolichol as the oligosaccharide-lipid intermediate
in N-glycosylation of proteins. MI8-5 cells were incubated with labeled
mevalonate, and the prenol was found to be dolichol. The mannose-labeled
oligosaccharide released from oligosaccharide-lipid of MI8-5 cells was
analyzed by HPLC and alpha-mannosidase treatment, and the data were
consistent with a structure of Man9GlcNAc2. In addition, MI8-5 cells did
not incorporate radioactivity into oligosaccharide- lipid during an
incubation with tritiated galactose, again consistent with MI8-5 cells
synthesizing an unglucosylated oligosaccharide-lipid. MI8-5 cells had
parental levels of glucosylphosphoryldolichol synthase activity. However,
in two different assays, MI8-5 cells lacked dolichol-
P-Glc:Man9GlcNAc2-P-P-dolichol glucosyltransferase activity. MI8-5 cells
were found to synthesize glucosylated oligosaccharide after they were
transfected with Saccharomyces cerevisiae ALG 6, the gene for
dolichol-P-Glc:Man9GlcNAc2-P-P-dolichol glucosyltransferase. MI8-5 cells
were found to incorporate mannose into protein 2-fold slower than parental
cells and to approximately a 2-fold lesser extent.
