Two chemical treatments involving chelating metal caustic swelling (CMCS) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) were evaluated for their ability to affect in vitro dry matter and in vitro cellulose disappearance (IVDMD and IVCD, respectively), dry matter disappearance in sacco and the chemical composition of two low-quality crop residues, cornstalks (CS) and soya bean residue (SBR). At ratios ranging from 0.25:1 to 5:1, linear increases in IVCD of both roughages were noted. Improvements in IVCD of CS and SBR were noted at 1:1, 3:1 and 5:1 ratios, regardless of whether the treated roughages were used immediately after treatment (fresh basis) or preserved by drying or freezing. Decreased concentrations of neutral detergent fibre (NDF), acid detergent fibre (ADF), acid detergent lignin (ADL) and crude protein (CP) resulted from chemical treatment. No effects of the water component of the solvent solutions were observed. Dry matter disappearance in sacco of CMCS- and NaOH-treated roughages was increased at all ratios tested. Treatment of either roughage with CMCS resulted in greater digestibility in sacco than did treatment with NaOH. Treatment of CS with CMCS resulted in higher rates of digestion than did treatment with NaOH. No differences in rates of digestion of SBR were noted between chemicals. Both chemicals were more effective in improving digestibility of CS than of SBR. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThis study describes for the first time the early gonadal morphogenesis and raises the possibility of occurrence of protandric hermaphroditism in the Mexican snook (Centropomus poeyi). To achieve this, histological analysis of early gonadal differentiation was performed in 105 juvenile specimens ranging from 136 to 367 days post-hatching (dph). The early gonadal differentiation of the Mexican snook started at 178–213 dph and was completed at 355–367 dph. Active spermatogenesis was observed at 355–367 dph, once the compartmentalization of testis in germinal and interstitial compartments was accomplished. Our study demonstrates that in the Mexican snook, early gonadal differentiation is directed to produce 100% males, implying protandric hermaphroditism and showed the presence of a long-lasting period of gonadal differentiation, which makes this species highly sensitive to environmental cues. 相似文献

Trehalases are enzymes that carry out the degradation of the non-reducing disaccharide trehalose. Trehalase phylogeny unveiled three major branches comprising those from bacteria; plant and animals; and those from fungal origin. Comparative analysis between several deduced trehalase structures and the crystallographic structure of bacterial trehalase indicated that these enzyme’s structures are highly conserved in spite of the marked differences found at the sequence level. These results suggest a bacterial origin for the trehalases in contrast to an eukaryotic origin, as previously proposed. Trehalases structural analysis showed that they contain six discrete motifs which are characteristic of each phylogenetic group, suggesting a positive evolutionary selection pressure for the structural conservation. Interestingly, trehalases are involved in multiple regulatory functions: In the response against pathogens (plant-pathogen interactions); the regulation of bacterial viability in symbiotic interactions (legume-Rhizobium); carbon partitioning in plants; regulating chitin biosynthesis, as well as energy supply in the hemolymph for flight, in insects. In summary, trehalases seem to have a prokaryotic origin and play an active role in carbon metabolism and other diverse regulatory effects on cell physiology. 相似文献
