In modern medicine, vigorous efforts are being made in the prediction and prevention of diseases. Mental disorders are suitable candidates for the application of this program. The currently known neurobiological and psychosocial risk indicators for schizophrenia do not have a predictive power sufficient for selective prevention in asymptomatic patients at risk. However, once predictive basic and later pre-psychotic high risk symptoms of psychosis develop into the five-year initial prodrome, the impending outbreak of the disease can be predicted with high accuracy. Research findings suggest a differential strategy of indicated prevention with cognitive behavioral therapy in early initial prodromal states and low dosage atypical antipsychotics in late initial prodromal states. The most important future tasks are the improvement of the predictive power by risk enrichment and stratification, as well as the confirmation of the existing and the development of new prevention strategies, with a stronger focus on the etiology of the disorder. In addition, the prediction and prevention approach would benefit from the inclusion of risk symptoms in the DSM-5 criteria.  相似文献

SUMMARY. 1. Quantitative benthic samples were collected monthly between June 1984 and May 1985 from seven stations at various depths in Lake Zwai, one of the Ethiopian Rift Valley lakes, situated in the northern part of the Rift Valley. The most common species of ostracods were Limnocythere thomasi thomasi Martens (a subspecies endemic to Lake Zwai), Gomphocythere angutata Lowndes (common in, but restricted to. East Africa) and Darwinula stevensoni (Brady & Robertson) (cosmopolitan).
2. Absolute densities of all species varied considerably over the year. In all stations, there were population peaks during the two dry seasons, followed by as yet unexplained population crashes during the short and the long rains.
3. The three common species had different habitat preferences. Darwinula stevensoni avoids parts of the lake where temperatures rise high and both G. angulata and L. thomasi had a preference for sheltered habitats close to vegetation and/or for a specific grain size of the sediment (300–350 μm).  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Molecular studies have revealed many new hypothesesof metazoan evolution in recent years. Previously, using morphologicalmethods, it was difficult to relate "minor" animal groups representingmicroscopic metazoans to larger, more well known groups suchas arthropods, molluscs, and annelids. Molecular studies suggestthat acanthocephalans evolved from rotifers, that priapulidsshare common ancestry with all other molting animals (Ecdysozoa),and that flatworms, gnathostomulids and rotifers form a sistergroup to the remaining non-molting protostomes (Lophotrochozoa),together forming Spiralia. The lophophorate phyla (phoronids,brachiopods and bryozoans) appear as protostomes, allied withannelids and molluscs rather than with deuterostomes. Thesefindings present a very different view of metazoan evolution,and clearly show that small and simple animals do not necessarilyrepresent ancestral or primitive taxa.  相似文献

1. Although the crucial point of disturbance experiments in streams is the extent to which they can simulate an actual spate, this aspect has been widely neglected in the design of such studies. Similarly, the influence of the specific hydrological disturbance regime of a stream on its benthic community has received much theoretical attention in recent years, but hypotheses have rarely been tested in the field. 2. Our field experiment compared the structure of the benthic invertebrate community in the prealpine River Necker in north-eastern Switzerland with predictions of the patch dynamics concept about the faunal composition of frequently disturbed streams. We also compared the resistance and resilience of the invertebrates between two sites in the River Necker. A similar substratum composition at both sites, but higher shear stress values both at baseflow and bankfull discharge at site 2, implied a higher disturbance frequency at the latter site. Five patches of stream bed of ≈ 9 m2 were disturbed by kicking and raking at each site, while five similar areas served as controls. From each plot, six Surber samples were taken: the first immediately after the disturbance, and the following five 1, 3, 6, 10 and 30 days later. 3. Resilience of the total benthic invertebrate fauna was high. The total number of individuals recovered to undisturbed densities within 30 days at site 1 and 6 days at site 2. Taxon richness recovered within 3 days. In accordance with theory, taxa with high recolonization rates made up a major percentage of the total number of individuals, especially in disturbed plots. However, this percentage was lower at site 2 in spite of the higher disturbance frequency at this site. Rhithrogena spp., Leuctra spp. and the Simuliidae recovered faster to undisturbed densities at site 2. In contrast, absolute recolonization rates of these taxa were higher at site 1, where total invertebrate densities were more than twice as high as at site 2. 4. Our results suggest that the time since the last disturbance should be considered as an important factor in studies of benthic invertebrate communities in prealpine rivers, because disturbances can alter the community structure. In frequently disturbed streams, very short sampling intervals may be needed to detect differences in taxon-specific colonization rates. The specific hydrological disturbance regime of such streams is also important, because even within-stream differences in the resilience of the benthic invertebrate community are possible.  相似文献

1. In extremely acid mining lakes, benthic filamentous green algae (Zygnemataceae, Chlorophyta) thrive as effective competitors for limited carbon (C). These algae could supply C for microbial‐mediated benthic alkalinity generation. However, biomass, productivity and impact of the acidobiontic filamentous green algae at pH ≤3 have not previously been determined. 2. Periphytic filamentous green algae was mapped by harvesting their biomass from 85 1 × 1 m quadrats in mining lake Grünewalder Lauch. Zygogonium ericetorum colonised water depths between 1.6 and 10.5 m covering 88% of total area. Biomass peaked at 5–6 m depth. Total Zygogonium biomass amounted to 72.2 t dry weight for the whole lake (0.94 km2), which corresponds to 16.1 t C and the accumulation of primary production from 2.2 years. 3. Growth of Zygogonium is moderately N, C and extremely P deficient, and seriously stressed by high rates of Fe deposition during summer. Consequently, net primary production (NPP) of Zygogonium, calculated from measured photosynthesis versus irradiance characteristics and calculated underwater irradiance (0.13 g C m?2 year?1) and in situ oxygen measurements (7.8 g C m?2 year?1), corresponds to only 0.3% and 18.1% of pelagic NPP. 4. Neither pelagic nor benthic Zygogonium primary production can supply enough C for efficient acidity removal. However, at rates of benthic NPP in summer of 21.4 mg C m?2 day?1, Zygogonium contributed 26% of the C equivalents to remove acidity associated with ferric iron, contributing at least seasonally to efficient alkalinity generation.  相似文献
