Ophryogleua hypertrophica n.sp. (Giliata Hymenostomatida)

Ophryoglena hypertrophica is distinguished by its tomites and its pyriform theronts; by its elliptical and flattened macronucleus with 2 or 3 coupled micronuclei; by its large trophont; by its tomont covered with a thin mucous layer at the interior of which are formed 4 or 8 tomites closely bound one to another. Its physiological evolution is characteristic; the tomite when it comes out of the tomont undergoes a secondary encystment and then becomes the theront. Sometimes the tomite is rostrated and is not attracted by the tissues; the tomite undergoes as before a secondary encystment, but divides inside the cyst. This type also produces complete or partial particular palintomies and regularly forms resistant cysts.     

Chronophysiology of Prolactin in the Lower Vertebrates

In every instance tested, responses to prolactin in fish, frogs,lizards, birds and mammals vary markedly during the day. Atcertain intervals prolactin may stimulate gains in body fatstores, whereas at other intervals it may cause fat losses.Similarly, there are specific times for gonadal prosteroidogenicand antisteroidogenic activities, augmentation of body growth,inhibition of amphibian metamorphosis, pigeon cropsac stimulation,induction of migratory restlessness, and the control of migratoryorientation. Prolactin interacts with other hormones in severalways depending on their temporal relations. Changing relationsbetween the daily rhythms of prolactin and the corticosteroidrhythms are thought to control the orderly and coordinated sequencesof physiological and behavioral conditions during the annualcycle and in development.
