Abstract: An early Cenozoic shark fauna, comprising at least 16 taxa, is described from Paleocene sedimentary rocks on the South Island of New Zealand. Although representing a remote Southern Hemisphere location, the fauna includes forms closely comparable to contemporary species from the Northern Hemisphere, in addition to the new species Chlamydoselachus keyesi and Centroselachus goordi. Comparison with closely related extant species suggests the fauna may be interpreted as a deep water one, typical of the outer continental shelf and upper slope. However, after palaeogeography, sedimentology and mineralogy of the enclosing rock, and the nature of similar faunas from elsewhere are taken into consideration, the fauna is interpreted to have occupied a mid‐shelf environment. 相似文献

The final activity of the alcohol dehydrogenase (E.C.1.1.1.1, abbreviated ADH) from germinating pea, isolated by fractionating with ammonium sulphate, chromatography on DEAE cellulose and gel filtration, was 80,000, from bean 25,000 and from lentil 13,500 units per mg protein. Molecular weights of the ADHs are close to each other: pea and bean ADH 60,000, lentil ADH 70,000. The Km values are mutually similar with three enzymes, i.e. of the order of 10−4M for NAD and 10−2M for ethanol. The pH optima lie in the alkaline region. These enzymes catalyse oxidation of a number of monovalent alcohols. At temperatures above 60°C the enzymes are thermally unstable. Stability is enhanced slowly by ethanol but not by NAD. Pyrazol, imidazol and pyridine inhibit plant ADH similarly to the enzyme from horse liver. There is a similarity between plant alcohol dehydrogenases and animal and yeast enzymes. 相似文献

Summary Radical yield measurements on irradiated ferritin and transferrin in the dry state have been carried out in order to test the role played by iron ions present in protein molecules on the radioresistance of these substances. In both cases, despite the high quantity of iron contained in ferritin and the direct linkage of two iron ions to the transferrin molecule, no difference between the radiation effects in native and iron-free proteins was observed.In the case of transferrin the lack of induction of secondary sulfur radicals by the presence of iron was observed.Some hypotheses about the interpretation of experimental results are discussed.This work was supported by C.N.R., Italy (grant no. 69.00682).We would like to express our thanks to the Paramagnetic Resonance Group of the University of Parma for permission and assistance in the use of EPR apparatus. 相似文献

Plasma membranes isolated from the fast-growing, maximal-deviation, Morris hepatoma 3924A exhibit remarkable changes in lipid composition, lipid peroxidation and to some extent in the physical state with respect to rat liver plasmalemmas. A mathematical model has been developed for predicting the performance and simulation of a packed bed immobilized enzyme reactor performing lactose hydrolysis, which follows Michaelis‐Menten kinetics with competitive product (galactose) inhibition. The performance characteristics of a packed bed immobilized enzyme reactor have been analyzed taking into account the effects of various diffusional phenomena like axial dispersion and external mass transfer limitations. The model design equations are then solved by Galerkin's method and orthogonal collocation on finite elements. The effects of external mass transfer and axial dispersion have been studied and their effects were shown to reduce the external effectiveness factor. The effects of product inhibition have been investigated at different operating conditions correlated at different regimes using dimensionless moduli (St, γ, θ, Da)1). The product inhibition was shown to reduce the substrate conversion, and, additionally, to decrease the effectiveness factor when Da > Daxo, however, it increases the effectiveness factor when Da < Daxo. The effectiveness factor is found to be independent of the product inhibition at a crossover point at which Daxo is defined. Effects of St and Pe have been investigated at different kinetic regimes and the results show that their effects have a strong dependency on the kinetic parameters θ, γ (i.e., Km/Kp), and Daxo. 相似文献

Heat derived gramicidin A′/l-α-lysophosphatidylcholine complexes were separated on a sucrose gradient to form two fractions: Fraction A which had an approximately constant Gramicidin A′ to phospholipid ratio of 8 to 10 lipid molecules per Gramicidin A′ molecule and Fraction B which had a larger but variable ratio. Fluorescence and circular dichroism studies confirmed Fraction A to be a lipid-incorporated channel state. Electron microscopic studies, using uranyl acetate negative staining, showed fraction A to be a membranous state with the formation of bilayer vesicles, that is, the interaction of peptide and phospholipid micelles causes the lipid to reorganize into a bilayer structure. Freeze-fracture replicas of the channel incorporated state demonstrated the presence of a supramolecular organization of particles exhibiting a tendency to form rows with a 50–60 Å periodicity along the row and with 70–80 Å distance between rows.
