The present study was undertaken to determine in vivo and in vitro effects of some plant growth regulators on rat erythrocyte carbonic anhydrase (CA) and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) activities. Both in vivo and in vitro, spermidine and kinetin did not affect enzymatic activities of CA and G6PD, whereas putrescine decreased these activities, and abscisic acid increased them. Since plants use such growth regulators, their effects should be considered on mammals consuming them since they may possess important biological effects.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to test the effect of irradiation on the histopathology of the hypothalamus and cerebral cortex. In addition, the probable effects of radiotherapy on the activities of antioxidant enzymes and levels of nitric oxide (NO) in the plasma were investigated as well. The effects of melatonin treatment on radiotherapy-based central nervous system (CNS) damage were also studied. For this purpose, the rats were randomized into four groups. The first group was the control group (sham-exposed group), the second group received only melatonin, the third group was irradiated and the fourth group received both melatonin and irradiation. Plasma samples of rats were collected for measuring the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and the levels of NO. 24 h after the interventions, tissue samples were obtained from the hypothalamus and the cerebral cortex for the light microscopic investigations. These tissues were mostly affected by radiation. The results indicated that the application of radiation significantly enhanced the levels of plasma SOD and NO. On the other hand, melatonin pretreatment prevented the decrease in plasma CAT activity induced by irradiation. It was found that the application of melatonin could significantly prevent the irradiation-induced damages. Light microscopic results revealed that the damage of the CNS by radiation was prevented by the application of melatonin.  相似文献

The biochar is an important carbon-rich product that is generated from biomass sources through pyrolysis. Biochar (charcoal) can be both used directly as a potential source of solid biofuels and as soil amendments for barren lands. The aim of this study was investigate influence of pyrolysis temperature on the physicochemical properties and structure of biochar. The biochars were produced by pyrolysis of rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) using a fixed-bed reactor at different pyrolysis temperatures (400–700°C). The produced biochars were characterized by proximate and elemental analysis, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area, particle size distributions, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The results showed that both chemical and surface properties of the biochars were significantly affected by the pyrolysis temperature. Aromatic hydrocarbons, hydroxyl and carbonyl compounds were the majority components of the biochar. The biochar obtained at 700°C had a high fixed carbon content (66.16%) as well as a high heating value, and therefore it could be used as solid fuel, precursor in the activated carbons manufacture (specific surface area until 25.38 m2 g?1), or to obtain category-A briquettes.  相似文献

Continuous and intermittent 50 Hz, 1.5 mT magnetic field with the exposure period of 4 h/day for 4 days was used to investigate its possible effect on adult guinea pigs. Tissues and plasma specimens were assessed by biochemical parameters. Malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), nitric oxide (NO) levels and myeloperoxidase activity (MPO) were examined in plasma, liver and brain tissues. All parameters were determined by spectrophotometer. While intermittent magnetic field was effective on plasma lipid peroxidation, continuous magnetic field was found to be effective on plasma MPO activity and NO levels. Augmentation of lipid peroxidation was also observed in liver tissue both intermittent and continuous magnetic field exposures. These results indicate that both the intermittent and continuous magnetic field exposures affect various tissues in a distinct manner because of having different tissue antioxidant status and responses.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to determine the respective role of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 on vaginal epithelium and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 receptor expression in ovariectomized rats and vitamin D3 treated rats. Bilateral ovariectomies were performed in 20 mature, non-pregnant Wistar female rats. All the animals were divided into 2 groups consisting of 10 rats each. Group I served as control. In group II, animals were injected intramuscularly with vitamin D3 (50, 00 IU/kg). Two weeks after the injections, vaginas of animals in group I and group II were removed removed and processed for immunohistochemistry. Epithelial differentiation, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 receptor and cornifin beta expression were investigated in vaginal epithelium of control group (ovariectomized) and vitamin D3 treated rats. Vaginal epithelial cells from vitamin D3 treated animals changed into highly- stratified keratinizing layers. 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 receptor and cornifin beta as a marker of squamous differentiation were present in ovariectomized rats treated with 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3. In contrast, cornifin beta and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 receptor were absent in all layers of vaginal epithelium in control group. We demonstrated for the first time that 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 induced proliferation of vaginal epithelium consistent with the cornifin beta expression and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 up-regulated 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 receptor expression in vaginal epithelium.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of omeprazole, an H+-K+-ATPase inhibitor, in myometrial smooth muscle strips from women undergoing elective caesarean section at term. Isolated myometrial strips taken with informed consent were obtained from eight pregnant women undergoing elective caesarean section at term (not in labour) and mounted in organ baths for recording of isometric tension. We recorded the effect of increasing concentrations of omeprazole on spontaneous and Ca2+-induced contractions of myometrial smooth muscle and on contractions of myometrial smooth muscle pretreated with indomethacin (3 x 10(-6) M) and L-NAME (3 x 10(-5) M). Omeprazole (10(-4)-10(-3) M) decreased the amplitude and frequency of spontaneous contractions in a time- and concentration-dependent manner in all myometrial smooth muscle isolated from pregnant women. The decrease in amplitude of contractions in myometrial smooth muscle reached statistical significance beginning from the concentration of 3 x 10(-4) M. Addition of indomethacin (3 x 10(-6) M) and L-NAME (3 x 10(-5) M) in to the organ baths 30 min before did not change relaxation responses to omeprazole. When 8 mM Ca2+-precontracted in Ca2+-free medium myometrial smooth muscle were exposed to increasing concentrations of omeprazole (10(-5)-10(-3) M), omeprazole produced relaxation responses in a time- and concentration-dependent manner, reaching statistical significance at 10(-4) M. These results show: (1) omeprazole time- and concentration-dependently decreased spontaneous contractile activity in myometrial smooth muscle isolated from pregnant women, (2) omeprazole-induced relaxations was not influenced by indomethacin and N(G)-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), suggesting that it is not mediated by cyclooxygenase products and nitric oxide, and (3) omeprazole brought about time- and concentration-dependently relaxation of myometrial smooth muscle precontracted by 8 mM Ca2+ in Ca2+-free medium. This effect of omeprazole may be due to blockade of the calcium channels.  相似文献
