Mycotoxin production by various toxigenic fungi, growing on a bread analogue, was investigated at various water activities (aw ) and pH combinations. Citrinin, ochratoxin A and sterigmatocystin could be detected at aw > 0·80, while patulin was only observed at aw = 0·95. These results show that some toxins may be produced at lower water activities than have been reported on synthetic media and suggest that, where possible, natural substrates should be used to investigate factors affect-ing mycotoxin production in foodstuffs. 相似文献

Abstract. The virtually unknown monotypic genus Neophonus Fauvel has been collected in several localities in south-central Chile; it was previously known only from the type locality in Argentina. Field observations of the adults on forest foliage and study of their gut contents suggest that they are mycophagous and eat primarily foliicolous fungi, a habit previously unknown in Staphylinidae. Their mouthparts and tarsi show morphological specializations apparently correlated with these habits. Larvae remain unknown. The phylogenetic relationships of the genus within the omaliine-group of Staphylinidae sensu lato are discussed. 相似文献

In all 101 species and varieties of marine algae are mentioned for S. Tomé and Príncipe. These records arise from examination of the material in the herbarium of the Botanical Institute of the University of Coimbra, together with material collected in 1956 by Dr C. A. Thorold. From the latter material there are 17 new records for the island of S. Tomé.
No new species have been described, but Acantkophora ramulosa Kütz. is emended, and Bryopsis densa Pilger and Struvea multipartita Pilger are reduced to the synonymy of Bryopsis pennata var. secunda and Struvea anastomosans respectively.
Information on the climate and tides of the islands is given, and a series of 'seasonal coincidences' likely to influence coastal marine conditions is described for the Gulf of Guinea. 相似文献

Effects of Selected Herbicides on Plant Protoplasts 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Plant protoplasts were released from immature tomato fruits by incubation with a 20% solution of polygalacturonase (Pectinol R-10, Rhom & Haas) dissolved in 0.1 M KCl + 0.1 M MgCl2. In this salt solution the protoplasts remained stabilized for up to 8 h and were used as a source of exposed plasma membrane. Gross responses of protoplasts to selected chemicals and herbicides were recorded photomicroscopically. Paraquat (1,1′-dimethyl-4,4′-bipyridinium ion) treatments resulted in a characteristic response which was different from that of general denaturants (trichloroacetic acid, ethanol, and detergents) and of osmotic shock. Initial phases of the paraquat response were characterized by a segregation of the cytoplasm into isolated areas on the inner membrane surface. The final phase was a rupture of the plasma membrane and collapse of the cell. The herbicides, 2,4′-dinitro-4-trifluoromethyl-diphenylether (preforan); 1,1-dimethyl-3-(α,α,α-trifluoro-m-tolyl)urea (fluometuron); 3-(3-chloro-4-bromophenyl)-1-methoxy-1-methylurea (chlorbromuron); and α,α,α-trifluoro-2,6-dinitro-N-N-dipropyl-p-toluidine (trifluralin) produced no apparent structural effect on the protoplasts. 相似文献

ABSTRACT. Using fluorogenic substrates and polyacrylamide gels we detected in cell-free extracts of Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium chabaudi chabaudi and Plasmodium berghei only a single aminopeptidase. A comparative study of the aminopeptidase activity in each extract revealed that the enzymes have similar specificities and kinetics, a near-neutral pH optima of 7.2 and are moderately thermophilic. Each has an apparent molecular weight of 80,000 ± 10,000, determined by high performance liquid chromatography on a calibrated SW500 column. Whilst the P. c. chabaudi and P. berghei activity co-migrate in native polyacrylamide gels, that of P. falciparum migrates more slowly. The three enzymes can be selectively inhibited by ortho -phenanthroline and are thus metallo-aminopeptidases; however, in contrast to other aminopeptidases the metal co-factor does not appear to be Zn2+ . 相似文献

The morphology and anatomy of pollen presenters, styles andpollen of species ofBanksia, Dryandra, Hakea, IsopogonandMacadamiawerestudied. Serial sections of pistils and SEM images of pollenwere quantified to determine whether the low fertility observedin the Proteaceae has a structural basis. Pollen access to thestigma was investigated. There were three types of stigmaticcavity. A groove in which the stigmatic papillae were enclosedwas present inDryandra, BanksiaandHakea. Macadamiahad a groovewith protruding papillae, andIsopogonhad a tube which enclosedthe papillae. Anatomical studies showed the pollen presenterto be structurally complex but overall to have similar internalanatomy across the species studied. The species could be groupedaccording to presence or absence of transfer tissue and presenceor absence of sclerenchyma, but these groups were not mutuallyexclusive. In the pistil there were three structural filtersto pollen tube passage. The first was at the stigma, where pollengrain access could be limited by the diameter or length of thestigmatic groove or the capacity of the pollination chamberin relation to pollen volume. 1. Allochthonous organic matter, in the form of senesced leaves, is a major source of carbon supporting detrital food webs. While studies have documented the role of bacteria and fungi in the decomposition of leaf litter, little information is available regarding the role of protists in the decomposition process. 2. We tested the hypothesis that the presence of stream‐dwelling bacterivorous protists leads to an increased rate of leaf decomposition through grazing pressure on bacteria. We isolated live protists from decomposing leaves collected in a stream in Northern Virginia, U.S.A. (Goose Creek) and established laboratory cultures of common bacterivorous protists. 3. Recently senesced leaves from the field were used in laboratory microcosm experiments to determine if the rate of litter decomposition differed between four treatments: bacteria only, bacteria + flagellates, bacteria + flagellates + ciliates, autoclaved stream water (control). We determined the dry weight of leaf remaining, bacterial abundance, flagellate abundance and ciliate abundance for each replicate on days 0, 7, 14, 30, 60 and 120. 4. The rate of leaf decomposition was significantly higher in treatments with protists than without and bacterial abundance declined in protist treatments compared with bacteria only treatment. Weight loss in the presence of flagellates was three to four times higher when protists were present compared with treatments with bacteria alone.
