Two monoclonal antibodies, which differentially recognise the two species of potato cyst nematodes (PCN), Globodera pallida and G. rostochiensis, are described. They have been shown to have potential for quantification of these two species, recognising proteins of the same molecular weight (34 kD) in both species. Further investigation showed these proteins to have isoelectric points at pH values of 5.7 in G. pallida and 5.9 in G. rostochiensis, in common with the proteins used by Fleming & Marks (1983) to differentiate the species of PCN. They are likely to be structurally very similar, with the same physiological function (and therefore similar concentrations) in the two species. In cross-reactivity tests with a wide range of soil nematode species, the antibodies reacted strongly only with species of the genus Globodera, and thereby confirmed their potential as the basis of a quantitative immunoassay likely to be useful in management of PCN populations. 相似文献

The Presence of Gibberellins in Excised Tomato Roots 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Substances having similar physiological properties to the gibberellins(located by the Meteor dwarf pea bio-assay) havebeen detected in extracts from excised tomato root. The chromatographicbehaviour of the most active zone is similar to that of gibberellinA1. Experiments using the d-1 and d-5 mutants of mazie did not indicatethe presence of substances with differential effects on thesetwo mutants. 相似文献

THE administration of large doses of salicylates to pregnant animals produces malformations of the central nervous system, internal organs and skeleton1. In rats, minor abnormalities are observed to result from a single oral dose of 250 mg kg?1 at day 9 of gestation, with the severity and frequency of malformations increasing at higher doses. The period of maximal susceptibility has been shown to be on days 9 and 10 of gestation2. This study provides preliminary evidence that doses too low to yield gross central nervous system malformations can produce behavioural impairments in the offspring. 相似文献

The addition of Braun and Wood's inorganic supplements (845mg l1 KCl, 1800 mgl1 NaNO3, 300 mg l1 NaH2PO4.2H2O,790 mg l1 (NH4)2SO4) to White's medium caused markedincreases in the growth of normal tissues of Helianthus annuus,Nicotiana rustica, Daucus carota, and Vinca rosea and crown-galltumour tissues of H. annuus. However, no evidence was obtainedwhich suggested that the presence of these extra salts markedlyinfluenced the essential requirements of normal callus for auxinsand kinetin. In contrast their presence significantly influencedthe hormonal requirements of certain habituated cultures ofH. annuus and V. rosea. These habituated cultures had specificauxin requirements on White's medium while either an auxin orkinetin was sufficient on high-salts medium. These results arediscussed in relation to previous reports which suggested thatthe biosyntheses of auxins and other growth factors in normaland crown-gall cultures are specifically activated by certaininorganic ions. 相似文献

- At appropriate concentrations both gibberellic acid (GA) and1-naphthalene-acetic acid (NAA) enhance the main axis growthof excised tomato roots grown in culture media containing sucroseat concentrations below 1 per cent. Lateral root extension growthis enhanced by GA at all sucrose concentrations tested; onlyat the lower sucrose concentrations is this effect observedwith NAA. Both GA and NAA increase the number of emergent lateralroots and this effect is most marked in media of low sucrosecontent. Both GA and NAA at higher concentrations inhibit rootgrowth but NAA exhibits its full range of growth effects overa much narrower concentration range than GA.
- GA, like NAA,speeds up the loss of meristematic activity whichoccurs whenindividual meristems are repeatedly subculturedin media containing1 per cent, or higher concentrations ofsucrose.
- The promotionof main axis growth by both GA and NAA involvesenhanced cellelongation and cell division. At a moderatelyinhibitory concentrationGA reduces both cell elongation andcell division; this is notthe case with NAA.
- Gibberellins A1, A2, and A4 resemble GA(gibberellin A3) intheir growth effects. Allogibberic acidlike G A promotes lateralroot extension growth but causes markedinhibition of root growthat a much lower concentration thanGA.

Bruchid beetles of the genus Zabrotes (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) are important worldwide pests of legume seeds. Samples of Zabrotes subfasciatus and Z. sylvestris were collected from seeds of two Phaseolus species throughout Mexico to assess the role of host plant variation and plant domestication on the evolution of host use in this species. For this purpose six polymorphic microsatellite loci were isolated and characterized for the bruchid Z. subfasciatus. Cross‐species amplification tests were performed on Z. sylvestris and revealed that three loci amplified successfully and were polymorphic in this closely related species. 相似文献

Abstract Wildlife biologists use knowledge about wildlife-habitat relationships to create habitat models to predict species occurrence across a landscape. Researchers attribute limitations in predictive ability of a habitat model to data deficiencies, missing parameters, error introduced by specifications of the statistical model, and natural variation. Few wildlife biologists, however, have incorporated intra- and interspecific interactions (e.g., conspecific attraction, competition, predator-prey relationships) to increase predictive accuracy of habitat models. Based on our literature review and preliminary data analysis, conspecific attraction can be a primary factor influencing habitat selection in wildlife. Conspecific attraction can lead to clustered distributions of wildlife within available habitat, reducing the predictive ability of habitat models based on vegetative and geographic parameters alone. We suggest wildlife biologists consider incorporating a parameter in habitat models for the clustered distribution of individuals within available habitat and investigate the mechanisms leading to clustered distributions of species, especially conspecific attraction. 相似文献
