Diarrhea is considered as an important cause of morbidity and mortality, even though one of the main reasons of death following diarrhea is initiated by dysentery. In recent years, the consumption of probiotics has been proposed for the treatment of infectious diarrhea. Despite most of the studies on probiotics have focused on acute watery diarrhea, few studies in the field of dysentery have found beneficial effects of probiotics. This study is a randomized double-blind clinical trial. The patients were randomly placed into control and case groups. In the intervention group, the patients received probiotics in the form of Kidilact® sachet, which contained high amounts of 7-strain friendly bacteria strains of Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Bifidobacterium infantis, Bifidobacterium breve, and Streptococcus thermophiles. On the other hand, the patients in the control group received placebo sachets on a daily basis for 5 days. It is notable that the treatment protocol of acute dysentery was done on both groups. The results of this study showed significant differences in the duration of blood in diarrhea between probiotic consumers (2.62 days) and the control group (3.16 days) (P value = 0.05). Additionally, significant differences in the average length of hospitalization in probiotic consumers (3.16 days) and control (3.66 days), (P value = 0.02) could be claimed that the consumption of probiotics is effective in reducing the duration of dysentery and diarrhea. The results of this study suggest that the use of probiotics can be effective in reducing the duration of blood in diarrhea. The human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2) gene undergoes various mutations that could alter its activity or respond to the antibody therapies. Cetuximab, a known anti-EGFR monoclonal antibody (mAB), is widely administered in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) cases. Here we identified mCRC patients who did not respond to cetuximab (500 mg/m2, q2w) after fluoropyrimidine/oxaliplatin regimen failure. Tumor samples were examined with immunohistochemistry for protein distribution, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) sequencing for mutation detection and real-time PCR for mRNA expression pattern analysis between cetuximab sensitive and resistance patients. The conformational differences of normal and mutated protein structures were predicted by bioinformatics analysis. The 5-year survival rates of target groups were estimated using the Kaplan–Meier method. Immunohistochemistry showed that all cases had high level of HER2 protein. No K-Ras or B-Raf mutation was observed among the study population; however, cetuximab resistance patients harbored a somatic mutation R784G at the exon 20 region of HER2 coding sequence. According to bioinformatics analysis, this mutation caused a notable misfold in protein conformation. Meanwhile, survival analysis showed R784G mutated mCRC patients had shortened survival rate compared with the mCRC cases with wild-type HER2. Collectively, these data report a new mechanism of resistance to cetuximab and might be applicable in modifying new therapeutic strategies for HER2 involved cancers. 相似文献

Larvae of the cedar web-spinning sawfly, Cephalcia tannourinensis Chevin (Hymenoptera: Pamphiliidae), infected with a white fungus were collected from the Tannourine-Hadath El-Jebbeh cedar
forest. Macro- and micro-morphological data based on the examination of colonies, conidiophores, and conidial shape of the
fungus suggested a Beauveria species. Sequence analysis of the internal transcribed spacer regions of the isolated fungus showed that it is most closely
related to isolates of B. bassiana Clade C. The present study showed that the isolated B. bassiana is a naturally occurring entomopathogenic fungus parasitizing the larvae of C. tannourinensis in Lebanon. Laboratory bioassays showed that B. bassiana caused high mortality of eggs and larvae. The infected eggs turned brownish in color, while larvae of the first instar ceased
feeding and showed immobility and rigidity within 5 days and before sporulating conidial mat appeared on their cuticle. Second
and third larval instars took longer time to show fungal sporulation: mortalities ranged between 85 and 100% within 7 days
when treated with different conidial concentrations. The efficacy of control of C. tannourinensis using B. bassiana was higher or equal to the reference insect growth regulator, diflubenzuron, suggesting the possibility of its success as

The maintenance of the plasmid vectors pTG201 and pTG206 (which both carry the Pseudomonas putida xylE gene) and pB lambda H3 in Escherichia coli hosts was studied in free and immobilized continuous cultures. pTG201, containing the strong lambda PR promoter, was more quickly lost than plasmid pTG206, containing the tetracycline resistance gene promoter. The instability of pTG201 seems to be related to high expression of the cloned xylE genet. Fluctuations in the proportion of pTG201-containing cells were observed in the free system, suggesting the appearance of adaptive descendants (with and without plasmid) from the initial strains. The loss of plasmid vectors from E. coli cells and the fluctuations in the proportion of plasmid-containing cells could be prevented by immobilizing plasmid-containing bacteria in carrageenan gel beads. 相似文献

Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-38 mol%-3-hydroxyvalerate) [P(3HB-co-38mol%-3HV)] was produced by Cupriavidus sp. USMAA2-4 in the presence of oleic acid and 1-pentanol. Due to enormous production of empty fruit bunch (EFB) in the oil palm plantation and high production cost of P(3HB-co-3HV), oil palm EFB fibers were used for biocomposites preparation. In this study, maleic anhydride (MA) and benzoyl peroxide (DBPO) were used to improve the miscibility between P(3HB-co-3HV) and EFB fibers. Introduction of MA into P(3HB-co-3HV) backbone reduced the molecular weight and improved the thermal stability of P(3HB-co-3HV). Thermal stability of P(3HB-co-3HV)/EFB composites was shown to be comparable to that of commercial packaging product. Composites with 35% EFB fibers content have the highest tensile strength compared to 30% and 40%. P(3HB-co-3HV)/EFB blends showed less chemicals leached compared to commercial packaging. 相似文献

Two types of experiment were carried out, one with free cells and one with immobilized cells. When cells were cultivated in free continuous culture in the absence of antibiotic selection, the plasmid was maintained with various degrees of stability in the three host organisms. By contrast, in continuous culture with immobilized cells, plasmid pTG201 was stably maintained in the three strains. We showed that the increase in pTG201 stability in immobilized cells is due neither to plasmid transfer between immobilized cells nor to an increase of the plasmid copy number of immobilized cells.
