The occurrence of pythiaceous fungi in pot plant cultures grown in ebb and flow bench systems was investigated monthly from May to December, Phytophthora, Pythium and Saprolegnia (in all 351) were isolated from water samples and identified. Nearly all the isolates of Pythium produced zoospores in water. A pathogenicity test involving 15 isolates of Pythium“group P”, and 7 of Pythium“group F” showed that 73 % were pathogenic on cucumber, 66 % on Gerbera, 59 % on lettuce, 50 % on tomato, and 32 % on cress. Control of Pythium and Phytophthora is important in order to improve the health of plants grown in ebb and flow systems. 相似文献

Interval mapping of quantitative trait loci (QTL) for 16 yield, agronomic and quality traits in potato was performed on a
tetraploid full-sib family comprising 227 clones from a cross between processing clone 12601ab1 and table cultivar Stirling.
Thirty-eight AFLP primer combinations and six SSRs provided 514 informative markers which formed a molecular marker map comprising
12 linkage groups (LGs) in 12601ab1 (nine with four homologous chromosomes) which were aligned with 12 in Stirling (11 with
four homologous chromosomes), with four partial groups remaining in 12601ab1. Two LGs were identified unequivocally as chromosomes
IV and V and eight others were tentatively assigned with chromosomes VII and X unidentified. All of the traits scored had
moderately high heritabilities with 54–92% of the variation in clone means over 3 years and two replicates being due to genetic
differences. A total of 39 QTLs were identified. A QTL for maturity was identified on chromosome V which explained 56% of
the phenotypic variance, whereas the other QTLs individually explained between 5.4 and 16.5%. However, six QTLs were detected
for after-cooking blackening and four for each of regularity of tuber shape, fry colour both after storage at 4 and 10°C and
sprouting. Just two QTLs were found for each of yield, the two ‘overall’ scores, crop emergence, tuber size and common scab
and just one QTL was detected for each of dry matter content, keeping quality, growth cracks and internal condition. The implications

The ribosome is a large macromolecular machine, and correlated motion between residues is necessary for coordinating function across multiple protein and RNA chains. We ran two all-atom, explicit solvent molecular dynamics simulations of the bacterial ribosome and calculated correlated motion between residue pairs by using mutual information. Because of the short timescales of our simulation (ns), we expect that dynamics are largely local fluctuations around the crystal structure. We hypothesize that residues that show coupled dynamics are functionally related, even on longer timescales. We validate our model by showing that crystallographic B-factors correlate well with the entropy calculated as part of our mutual information calculations. We reveal that A-site residues move relatively independently from P-site residues, effectively insulating A-site functions from P-site functions during translation. 相似文献

Detergent solubilization and subsequent delipidation of bacteriorhodopsin (bR) results in the formation of a new species absorbing maximally at 480 nm (bR480). Upon lowering the pH, its absorption shifts to 540 nm (bR540). The pK of this equilibrium is 2.6, with the higher pH favoring bR480 (Baribeau, J. and Boucher, F. (1987) Biochim. Biophysica Acta, 890, 275-278). Resonance Raman spectroscopy shows that bR480, like the native bR, contains a protonated Schiff base (PSB) linkage between the chromophore and the protein. However, the Schiff base vibrational frequency in bR480, and its shift upon deuteration, are quite different from these in the native bR, suggesting changes in the Schiff base environment upon delipidation. Infrared absorption and circular-dichroism (CD) spectral studies do not show any net change in the protein secondary structure upon formation of bR480. It is shown that deprotonation of the Schiff base is not the only mechanism of producing hypsochromic shift in the absorption maximum of bR-derived pigments, subtle changes in the protein tertiary structure, affecting the Schiff base environment of the chromophore, may play an equally significant role in the color regulation of bR-derived pigments. 相似文献

Between 1976 and 1984, 136 patients with portal hypertension due to extrahepatic obstruction were operated on. Twenty two patients had emergency and 114 elective operations. The operative mortality was 9% and 1%, respectively. Altogether 117 patients (86%) were followed up for from two to 10 years: 17 rebled, none developed encephalopathy or sepsis after splenectomy, and 90% and 75% were alive at five and 10 years respectively. Unlike endoscopic sclerotherapy and treatment with propranolol, operative treatment of variceal bleeding can usually be completed during one admission and carries a low mortality and a fairly low morbidity. Operation seems to be the best form of treatment for poor patients living far from medical facilities in developing countries and may be the treatment of choice in developed countries as well. 相似文献

High density lipoprotein (HDL) particles are made up of lipid and protein constituents and apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) is a principal protein component that facilitates various biological activities of HDL particles. Increase in Ox-PL content of HDL particles makes them 'dysfunctional' and such modified HDL particles not only lose their athero-protective properties but also acquire pro-atherogenic and pro-inflammatory functions. The details of Ox-PL-induced alteration in the molecular properties of HDL particles are not clear. Paraoxonase 1 (PON1) is an HDL-associated enzyme that possesses anti-inflammatory and anti-atherogenic properties; and many of the athero-protective functions of HDL are attributed to the associated PON1. In this study we have characterized the physicochemical properties of reconstituted HDL (rHDL) particles containing varying amounts of Ox-PL and have compared their PON1 stimulation capacity. Our results show that increased Ox-PL content (a) modifies the physicochemical properties of the lipid domain of the rHDL particles, (b) decreases the stability and alters the conformation as well as orientation of apoA-I molecules on the rHDL particles, and (c) decreases the PON1 stimulation capacity of the rHDL particles. Our data indicate that the presence of Ox-PLs destabilizes the structure of the HDL particles and modifies their function. 相似文献

Here is an attempt to describe database named "EctomycorrhizalDB", addressing ECM diversity of Central Himalaya (Kumaun region), with special emphasis on their characterization, physical properties and morphological features along with specifications. This database would help the scientific community to draw a better understanding of the environmental factors that affects species diversity.
