Reproductive systems are life attributes important in defining the demography and genetic constitution of invasive alien species populations. We describe the phenology, floral behavior and floral visitors in Mexican populations of Leonotis nepetifolia considered invasive in America, Asia and Oceania. The mating system was determined through pollination experiments and, with a morphological analysis of flowers (outcrossing index, OCI) and pollen/ovule ratio, the breeding system was evaluated. Germination of 1 and 2-year-old seeds was tested to assess the potential characteristics of germination. Leonotis nepetifolia was reproductive for 7 months (June to December) and tended towards a specific season during autumn. Anthesis lasted 36 hr with protogyny and no hercogamy, with floral visitors of Apodiformes, Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera and Thysanoptera. Pollination experiments indicated a mixed mating system, whereas the OCI and the pollen/ovule ratio pointed towards a facultative xenogamous breeding system. Seed production was high (1,445 ± 132 seeds/plant); the seeds had potential longevity and were neutral photoblastic. One-year-old seeds germinated slightly later ( = 2.6 ± 0.11 days) than 2-year-old seeds ( = 1.9 ± 0.02 days), both synchronously (IS1yr = 0.88 ± 0.03 and IS2yr = 0.82 ± 0.02). Germination percentage for 1-year-old seeds was lower (55.33 ± 4.40%) than that of 2-year-old seeds (94.18 ± 0.59%), suggesting a potential longevity of the seeds in an optimal environment. Reproductive characteristics, such as wide reproductive period, mixed breeding system, copious seed production, seeds with potential longevity, and quick and synchronic germination in different light conditions, favor the invasive capacity of Leonotis nepetifolia. 相似文献

AbstractA hybrid individual between two taxa from “the Purple Corolla clade of the genus Capsicum”, C. eximium × C. cardenasii (2n = 24) was found during a cytogenetic study of a population belonging to C. cardenasii cytotype 1, from Bolivia. 5S and 45S rDNA probes were located on mitotic chromosomes by fluorescent in situ hybridization. The hybrid haploid karyotype length was an average value of the two taxa; the hybrid presented 24 45S loci in the diploid complement, 18 45S sites belonged to C. cardenasii cytotype 2, and six came from C. eximium cytotype 2, although this cytotype of C. eximium has been mentioned only for Argentina. Whereas hybrids were previously reported in the purple flower group, their existence has not been cytologically corroborated. Cultural and biological data suggests the Polynesian origin of the Rapanui population, although the presence of foreign genes
in the native population, as a result of admixture with Europeans in the last two centuries has also to be considered. In
order to estimate the genetic affinities of the present-day inhabitants of Easter Island and the nearby populations, we used
seven polymorphisms of the Y chromosome. However we want to estimate the grade of admixture on the genetic structure that
was brought from foreigners within the last two centuries upon the more geographically isolated populations in the world.
The preliminary results showed the presence of 18 haplotypes analyzed on 30 male samples.
The analysis of the allelic frequency showed a distribution typical of the Polynesian populations. Available data in literature,
even with some differences probably due to either the founder effect or historical and ecological events that created sudden
demographic variations on the island population. The phylogentic analysis of the haplotypes obtained through Network Median
Joining showed two different cluster of haplotypes, of which one represents about 64% of the present haplotypes on Easter
Island, which are characterized from the presence of the allele DYS19*16, very frequent in the Pacific populations. The other cluster is characterized from the presence of the allele DYS19*14, absent within the populations in the Pacific and with reasonable high frequency within the European populations and South
American. Most probably the two clusters are the product of several colonizations that Easter Island had endured from the
time of the Chilian and European Colonies. It was demonstrated in fact, that the arrival in 1914 of 50 German and English
prisoners would have left a considerable genetic impact on the population of Rapanui, which during this period was of small

The occurrence of strains that are resistant to oxolinic acid, oxytetracycline, sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim, and nitrofurantoin among heterotrophic bacteria, including human and fish pathogens, in two freshwater eel farms was investigated.
