The present paper offers data on the effect of certain meteorological parameters on the outbreak of forest fires in Galicia (Spain). In a day-to-day analysis, the values of the stability of the air column and the saturation deficit at the lower levels are related to the number of fires occurring in the following 24 h.  相似文献

Exposure of mouse peritoneal macrophages to ethanol induces a rapid release of arachidonic acid to the extracellular medium. All major classes of phospholipids, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylinositol contribute to this release. Ethanol-induced mobilization of arachidonic acid occurs by deacylation, but it is not accompanied by eicosanoid synthesis. These data suggest that at least two signals are necessary for the release and metabolism of arachidonic acid. Ethanol also activates a phospholipase C which hydrolyzes only phosphatidylinositol, and not its phosphorylated derivatives.  相似文献

The experimentally observed influence of regularly arriving tugs upon the AP discharge of the slowly-adapting stretch receptor organ (SAO) of crayfish was compared to a model of pacemaker excitatory synaptic interactions (Segundo and Kohn 1981). Criteria for compliance referred to facets as A) the excitation, B) the postulates, and C) the behavior. A) Excitation was implied primarily by the tug initially increasing the AP rate (it subsequently decreased it). B) The pacemaker AP discharges, and with more reason the electronically driven tugs, were considered acceptably regular sequence (postulate i). Tugs advanced the next AP (postulate ii); the "delay function" plots of delays vs. phases, i.e. interval shortenings vs. the time from the last AP to the tug, were close to the V of postulate iii, even though the shortest phases tended to postpone the next AP and the longest ones did not trigger immediately but with an around 5 ms latency. These effects were displayed also as "old phase vs. new phase" plots. The interval following that with the tug tended to be lengthened, but the pre-tug timing was not recovered. C) Behavior during a train of excitatory events, both in model and experiments, went through very similar initial settlings and eventual steady-states. The latter were characterized in the model by 1. an average excitatory vs. excited rate display formed by an endless number of segments with all positive rational slopes separated by negative-going discontinuities, 2. locking in the sense of preferential phases, and 3. periodic repetition of the same phases and inter-AP intervals. Experimental results were compatible with this. Such behavior was absent when the tug sequence was highly irregular. The initial settling, in the SAO as in the model, depended jointly on the first phase phi 1 and the intertug interval E. If the former was under lambda, it went through one or two monotonic phase-decreasing stages (one smaller, the other larger, than lambda), or through a single increasing one, depending on E being smaller or greater than, respectively, an estimated but never actually observed E leading to unstable lockings. If the initial phase was greater than lambda, settling with E's under rN + lambda involved jumps between larger than and smaller than lambda phases; with E's over rn + lambda, it involved an intermediate stable locking with phi = E-rN.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 400 WORDS)  相似文献

Parthenogenesis has been observed in several elasmobranch species, primarily in public aquaria. The majority of cases of parthenogenesis have occurred either when females were held without males or once a male was removed from a female's habitat. Here we report a second instance of parthenogenesis in a zebra shark female that was housed with conspecific mature males. This study calls into question the conditions under which elasmobranch females undergo parthenogenesis.  相似文献

Ultrastructural results for different types of protein–rich cells in five families generally accepted as Capparalean (Brassicaceae, Capparaceae, Resedaceae, Tovariaceae and Moringaceae) and two others (Gyrostemonaceae and Bataceae) considered by some workers to be Capparalean, support their alignment in the order Capparales. The term myrosin cell is used for those protein–rich cells which are typically idio–blastic and characterized by a homogenous, granular proteinaceous material in the vacuole and a cytoplasm which is filled with an extensive rough endoplasmic reticulum. This idioblastic myrosin cell type is characteristic for the Brassicaceae, Capparaceae, Tovariaceae, Moringaceae and Gyrostemonaceae. The guard cells of stomata may appear as myrosin cells, in which case they are termed guard–cell myrosin cells; they are found in the Resedaceae, Tovariaceae and Bataceae. Other proteinaceous cells are those with protein–rich dilated cisternae (DC) of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). One type is the organelle–like DC, utricular or irregular dilations of the ER, filled with protein and ribosome–studded. Utricular DC are characteristic for the Brassicaceae and Capparaceae. Another type of DC is represented by protein–containing vacuoles derived from the ER, protein–rich ER–dependent vacuoles; these are found in the Brassicaceae, Capparaceae, Resedaceae, Tovariaceae and Gyrostemonaceae. The myrosin cells and cells with protein–rich dilated cisternae are here regarded as taxonomic criteria for the order Capparales.  相似文献

Information on protein–protein interactions (PPIs) is of critical importance for studying complex biological systems and developing therapeutic strategies. Here, we present a double‐readout bioluminescence‐based two‐hybrid technology, termed LuTHy, which provides two quantitative scores in one experimental procedure when testing binary interactions. PPIs are first monitored in cells by quantification of bioluminescence resonance energy transfer (BRET) and, following cell lysis, are again quantitatively assessed by luminescence‐based co‐precipitation (LuC). The double‐readout procedure detects interactions with higher sensitivity than traditional single‐readout methods and is broadly applicable, for example, for detecting the effects of small molecules or disease‐causing mutations on PPIs. Applying LuTHy in a focused screen, we identified 42 interactions for the presynaptic chaperone CSPα, causative to adult‐onset neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis (ANCL), a progressive neurodegenerative disease. Nearly 50% of PPIs were found to be affected when studying the effect of the disease‐causing missense mutations L115R and ?L116 in CSPα with LuTHy. Our study presents a robust, sensitive research tool with high utility for investigating the molecular mechanisms by which disease‐associated mutations impair protein activity in biological systems.  相似文献

Seocalcitol (EB 1089) is under development for the treatment of hepato-cellular carcinoma (HCC). The tissue distribution of 3H-seocalcitol was investigated in comparison to 3H-calcitriol in rats. Quantitative whole-body autoradiography was used to quantify the tissue distribution. The greatest difference in distribution between the two compounds was observed in the bloodstream. For most tissues the ratio seocalcitol/calcitriol varied between 0.2 and 3.1. The concentration of radioactivity in the liver was almost the same for the two compounds. For seocalcitol the concentration in the liver was 10 times higher than in serum. Assuming that the liver/serum concentration ratio is the same in rats and humans, the concentration of seocalcitol in the human liver is expected to be higher than the concentration resulting in more than 50% inhibition of cancer cell proliferation, and thus pharmacologically effective in HCC. It is questionable whether calcitriol would be present in the human liver in sufficient concentrations to be effective for the treatment of HCC, as the antiproliferative activity of calcitriol is generally more than 10-fold lower compared to that of seocalcitol and as calcitriol can only be administered at a dose that is ca. three-fold lower than the dose of seocalcitol.  相似文献
