The two-oscillator model of human circadian rhythmicity was analyzed when a zeitgeber relative intensity of 1, 0.5, or 0.1 was introduced into the equations. Fourier analysis was compared with dynamic analysis such as attractor reconstruction or Liapunov exponent calculation. After a 50 or 90% reduction in zeitgeber intensity, the dynamics of the system became equivalent and differed significantly from those of a system with maximal zeitgeber intensity. When 10% aleatory noise was added to the data, the analysis was still applicable, and the results obtained were essentially the same as in the absence of noise. Dynamic analysis could thus provide a distinct classification for periodic data, based on the type of analysis. 相似文献

Recent ethnobotanical exploration of henequen (Agave fourcroydes) in the Peninsula of Yucatan, Mexico, finds that inflorescence peduncles are used as emergency food and in the preparation of a fermented drink. Bromatological analysis and determination of total carbohydrates were made for the two length classes (ca. 3.30 m and ca. 0.60 m) which are consumed. The analysis of both the cultivated plant and its putative wild ancestor (Agave angustifolia) suggests that utilization of the inflorescence peduncles as food may have been involved in the initial stages of the history of its evolution under artificial selection, because the wild and the cultivated plants have similar palatability. The subsequent agricultural prevalence of annual crop species in the region was possibly responsible for the abandonment of henequen in the local diet. No significant differences are observed between the bromatological and total carbohydrate values of domesticated and wild plants. The preference for small inflorescence peduncles as a vegetable is a consequence of its significantly minor content of raw fiber and its larger content of total carbohydrates. As a fermented drink, longer peduncles are preferred because they provide more substrate material and because fiber can be eliminated by filtering. This agricultural byproduct, almost totally wasted, has potential value as a source of carbohydrates and raw fiber. 相似文献

The diffusional permeability coefficients of rabbit polymorphonuclear leukocyte membranes to urea, methylurea and thiourea have been measured. It was found that the permeability coefficient of these membranes to urea is very low and that thiourea was more permeable than methylurea which was, in turn, more permeable than urea. These results suggest that there is no need to postulate a carrier-mediated mechanism for urea transport across biological membranes and that the concept of "aqueous pores" is not a general property of biological membranes but restricted only to certain cases. 相似文献

We have previously identified Ser201 of Sic1, a yeast cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor, as an in vitro target of protein kinase CK2. Here we present new evidence, by using specific anti-P-Ser201 antibodies and 2-D gel electrophoresis coupled to MALDI mass spectrometry analysis, that Sic1 is phosphorylated in vivo on Ser201 shortly after its de novo synthesis, during late anaphase in glucose-grown cells. This phosphorylation is also detected in Sic1 immunopurified from G1 cells. In agreement with these data we also show that the catalytic alpha' subunit of CK2, whose function is required for cell cycle progression, is detected in Sic1 immunopurified complexes, and that phosphorylation on Ser201 is reduced after CK2 inactivation at the non-permissive temperature in a cka1delta cka2(ts) yeast strain. These data strongly support the notion that CK2 phosphorylates Sic1 in vivo. 相似文献

Mamestra brassicae genomic DNAs, isolated from larvae and adult tissues and from in vitro cultured CRL-8003 cells, were enzymatically hydrolysed to nucleosides that were separated by HPLC. HPLC analysis showed that 5mC content in cabbage moth larvae, adults and cultured cells was 8.9±0.5, 9.3%±0.2 and 10.2%±0.4 respectively. Cabbage moth 5mC content results the highest reported till now in insects and it is similar to the typical vertebrate one. Analysis of MspI and HpaII restriction pattern on M. brassicae DNA showed that a portion of its genome was methylated at CpG sites. Moreover, the absence of small digestion products after MspI digestion suggested that CpG are not clustered in the cabbage moth genome. Finally, methylation of repeated DNAs has been studied. Comparison of the restriction pattern of MspI and HpaII after hybridisation with the hobo, mariner, 28S and 5S rDNA probes did not evidence any difference indicating the absence of CpG methylation in all the studied repeated DNAs. 相似文献

The effects ofhuman cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection onCl/HCO3exchanger activity in human lung fibroblasts (MRC-5 cells) were studiedusing fluorescent, ion-sensitive dyes. The intracellular pH(pHi) of mock- and HCMV-infectedcells bathed in a solution containing 5%CO2-25 mMHCO3 were nearly the same. However,replacement of external Clwith gluconate caused anH2DIDS-inhibitable (100 µM)increase in the pHi ofHCMV-infected cells but not in mock-infected cells. Continuous exposureto hyperosmotic external media containing CO2/HCO3caused the pHi of both cell typesto increase. The pHi remainedelevated in mock-infected cells. However, in HCMV-infected cells, thepHi peaked and then recoveredtoward control values. This pHirecovery phase was completely blocked by 100 µMH2DIDS. In the presence ofCO2/HCO3, there was an H2DIDS-sensitivecomponent of net Cl efflux(external Cl wassubstituted with gluconate) that was less in mock- than in HCMV-infected cells. When nitrate was substituted for external Cl (in the nominal absenceofCO2/HCO3),the H2DIDS-sensitive netCl efflux was much greaterfrom HCMV- than from mock-infected cells. In mock-infected cells,H2DIDS-sensitive, netCl efflux decreased aspHi increased, whereas forHCMV-infected cells, efflux increased aspHi increased. Gastric cancer is one of the most lethal types of cancer and its incidence varies worldwide, with the Andean region of South America showing high incidence rates. We evaluated the genetic structure of the population from Lima (Peru) and performed a case-control genetic association study to test the contribution of African, European, or Native American ancestry to risk for gastric cancer, controlling for the effect of non-genetic factors. A wide set of socioeconomic, dietary, and clinic information was collected for each participant in the study and ancestry was estimated based on 103 ancestry informative markers. Although the urban population from Lima is usually considered as mestizo (i.e., admixed from Africans, Europeans, and Native Americans), we observed a high fraction of Native American ancestry (78.4% for the cases and 74.6% for the controls) and a very low African ancestry (<5%). We determined that higher Native American individual ancestry is associated with gastric cancer, but socioeconomic factors associated both with gastric cancer and Native American ethnicity account for this association. Therefore, the high incidence of gastric cancer in Peru does not seem to be related to susceptibility alleles common in this population. Instead, our result suggests a predominant role for ethnic-associated socioeconomic factors and disparities in access to health services. Since Native Americans are a neglected group in genomic studies, we suggest that the population from Lima and other large cities from Western South America with high Native American ancestry background may be convenient targets for epidemiological studies focused on this ethnic group. 相似文献
