Chromium was measured by Electrothermal Atomic Absorption Spectrometry in human milk, cow's milk, and infant formulas. The mean levels found were 1.56, 0.83, and 4.84 (13%) μg/L, respectively. According to our data, the daily intake for the Spanish neonates is lower than the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs) (10–40 μg/d) for this element.  相似文献

A study on selenium levels has been carried out in human placenta, maternal and umbilical cord blood, hair and nails of a group of 50 mothers and in the hair of the newborns. The determinations were perfomed by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry. The selenium concentration obtained for each sample type was as follows: For the human placenta the values obtained were between 0.56 and 1.06 microg/g (mean +/- standard deviation: 0.81 +/- 0.02 microg/g). The levels for the umbilical cord blood were 51.1-104.2 microg/l (76.3 +/- 6.5 microg/l). For the maternal blood the values measured were between 57.3 and 117.9 microg/l (90.0 +/- 15.2 microg/l), and for hair and nails were 0.22-1.5 microg/g (0.60 +/- 0.37 microg/g) and 0.46-1.57 microg/g (0.90 +/- 0.27 microg/g), respectively. For the hair of the newborns the values obtained were between 0.40 and 2.53 microg/g (1.04 +/- 0.48 microg/g). The effect of different variables as age, habitat, nutritional index or gestation age of the mothers on the selenium concentration in the samples was studied. The influence of the habitat is significant with a confidence level of 95% for the selenium concentration in maternal blood and umbilical cord blood samples. The influence of the mothers' age is significant with a confidence level of 95% for the selenium concentration in the umbilical cord blood samples. For the placenta samples, the effect of the nutritional index is significant with a confidence level of 95%. There is a positive correlation between samples of umbilical cord blood and the newborns' hair, between placenta and umbilical cord, and between cord blood and maternal blood.  相似文献

A non-autonomous model for the regulation of apoptosis by p53 is proposed as a model for cancer chronotherapy. A perturbation is introduced that simulates damage caused to DNA in a periodic regime. To characterize the resulting system dynamics, the techniques used were stroboscopic analysis, Poincare section and power spectrum. The complexity of the time series was determined using the LZ index. Periodic and quasi-periodic dynamics were obtained as the control parameters were varied. The less complex states are those corresponding to higher values of the amplitude which indicates a strict control of the dose is required on periodic treatments.  相似文献

We address the question, related with the origin of the genetic code, of why are there three bases per codon in the translation to protein process. As a follow-up to our previous work (Aldana et al., 1998, Martínez-Mekler et al., 1999a,b), we approach this problem by considering the translocation properties of primitive molecular machines, which capture basic features of ribosomal/messenger RNA interactions, while operating under prebiotic conditions. Our model consists of a short one-dimensional chain of charged particles (rRNA antecedent) interacting with a polymer (mRNA antecedent) via electrostatic forces. The chain is subject to external forcing that causes it to move along the polymer which is fixed in a quasi-one-dimensional geometry. Our numerical and analytic studies of statistical properties of random chain/polymer potentials suggest that, under very general conditions, a dynamics is attained in which the chain moves along the polymer in steps of three monomers. By adjusting the model in order to consider present-day genetic sequences, we show that the above property is enhanced for coding regions. Intergenic sequences display a behavior closer to the random situation. We argue that this dynamical property could be one of the underlying causes for the three-base codon structure of the genetic code  相似文献

Premise of the study: The recognition of monophyletic genera for groups that have high levels of homoplastic morphological characters and/or conflicting results obtained by different studies can be difficult. Such is the case in the grammitid ferns, a clade within the Polypodiaceae. In this study, we aim to resolve relationships among four clades of grammitid ferns, which have been previously recovered either as a polytomy or with conflicting topologies, with the goal of circumscribing monophyletic genera. ? Methods: The sampling included 89 specimens representing 61 species, and sequences were obtained for two genes (atpB and rbcL) and four intergenic spacers (atpB-rbcL, rps4-trnS, trnG-trnR, and trnL-trnF), resulting in a matrix of 5091 characters. The combined data set was analyzed using parsimony, likelihood, and Bayesian methods. Ninety-six morphological characters were optimized onto the generated trees, using the parsimony method. ? Key results: Lellingeria is composed of two main clades, the L. myosuroides and the Lellingeria s.s. clades, which together are sister to Melpomene. Sister to all three of these is a clade with two species of the polyphyletic genus Terpsichore. In the L. myosuroides clade, several dispersal events occurred between the neotropics, Africa, and the Pacific Islands, whereas Lellingeria s.s. is restricted to the neotropics, with about 60% of its diversity in the Andes. ? Conclusions: Overall, our results suggest that Lellingeria is monophyletic, with two clades that are easily characterized morphologically and biogeographically. Morphological characters describing the indument are the most important to define the clades within the ingroup. A small clade, previously considered in Terpsichore, should be recognized as a new genus.  相似文献

“Test-and-slaughter” has been successful in industrialized countries to control and eradicate tuberculosis from cattle; however, this strategy is too expensive for developing nations, where the prevalence is especially high. Vaccination with the Calmette-Guérin (BCG) strain has been shown to protect against the development of lesions in vaccinated animals: mouse, cattle and wildlife species. In this study, the immune response and the pathology of vaccinated (BCG-prime and BCG prime-CFP-boosted) and unvaccinated (controls) calves were evaluated under experimental settings. A 106 CFU dose of the BCG strain was inoculated subcutaneously on the neck to two groups of ten animas each. Thirty days after vaccination, one of the vaccinated groups was boosted with an M. bovis culture filtrate protein (CFP). Three months after vaccination, the three groups of animals were challenged with 5×105 CFU via intranasal by aerosol with a field strain of M. bovis. The immune response was monitored throughout the study. Protection was assessed based on immune response (IFN-g release) prechallenge, presence of visible lesions in lymph nodes and lungs at slaughter, and presence of bacilli in lymph nodes and lung samples in histological analysis. Vaccinated cattle, either with the BCG alone or with BCG and boosted with CFP showed higher IFN-g response, fewer lesions, and fewer bacilli per lesion than unvaccinated controls after challenge. Animals with low levels of IFN-g postvaccine-prechallenge showed more lesions than animals with high levels. Results from this study support the argument that vaccination could be incorporated into control programs to reduce the incidence of TB in cattle in countries with high prevalence.  相似文献

We exploit a model that considers three compartments: blood plasma (BP), lymphoid tissue-interstitial spaces (LT-IS), and follicular dendritic cells (FDC), for the HIV-1 dynamics under the application of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) which allowed us to unravel distinct viral dynamics occurring in short- (2 days), middle- (21 days), and long-term (183 days) time scales. The different time scales are determined by the viral clearance rate, the ratio of productively infected CD4+ T cells to chronically infected cells, and the dissociation rate of HIV-1 complexes from FDC. This generates a scenario in which, after an initial transient stage, the viral BP dynamics decouples and becomes governed by the lymphoid tissue (LT) dynamics; in a later stage, a new decoupling occurs in which the LT-IS dynamics is slaved to that of the FDC dynamics. We observed an initial increase in the viremia after HAART in a patient who did not receive protease inhibitors (PI). By means of the above-mentioned model we were able to highlight the relevant parameters which need to be estimated at three different time scales after HAART.  相似文献

The morphogenesis of the color pattern of animals is modeled within the framework of a clonal model. The model takes into account the, sometimes conflicting, cell-cell and cell-background interactions.
