The tetrasaccharides GalNAcß1-4[NeuAc2-3]Galß1-4Glc and GalNAcß1-4[NeuAc2-3]Galß1-4GlcNAc were synthesised by enzymic transfer of GalNAc from UDP-GalNAc to 3-sialyllactose (NeuAc2-3Galß1-4Glc) and 3-sialyl-N-acetyllactosamine (NeuAc2-3Galß1-4GlcNAc). The structures of the products were established by methylation and1H-500 MHz NMR spectroscopy. In Sda serological tests the product formed with 3-sialyl-N-acetyllactosamine was highly active whereas that formed with 3-sialyllactose had only weak activity. 相似文献

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) strain AD-169 replicated in smooth muscle cell (SMC) cultures derived from human umbilical arteries, producing enveloped infectious virions. However, unlike the effects of CMV on fully permissive human lung fibroblasts, the effects of strain AD-169 on SMC cultures were delayed and prolonged, resulting in extended survival of a fraction of the starting population. This period of survival did not exceed the life-span of the control SMC cultures. Infectious CMV continued to be isolated from the surviving SMC cultures after extinction of the original inoculum by dilution and after treatment of the cultures with CMV neutralizing antibody. The implications of these findings for the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis are discussed. 相似文献

Cereals are the world's major source of food for human nutrition. Among these, rice (Oryza sativa) is the most prominent and represents the staple diet for more than two-fifths (2.4 billion) of the world's population, making it the most important food crop of the developing world (Anon., 2000a). Rice production in vast stretches of coastal areas is hampered due to high soil salinity. This is because rice is a glycophyte and it does not grow well under saline conditions. In order to increase rice production in these areas there is a need to develop rice varieties suited to saline environments. Research has shown that Porteresia coarctata, a highly salt tolerant wild relative of rice growing in estuarine soils, is an important material for transferring salt tolerant characteristics to rice. It is quite possible that Porteresia may be used as a parent for evolving better and truly salt resistant varieties. The inadequate results and the difficulties associated with conventional breeding techniques necessitate the use of the tools of crop biotechnology in unravelling some of the characteristics of Porteresia that have been highlighted in this report. In view of the limited resources available for increasing salinity tolerance to the breeders to wild rice germplasm, Porteresia is undoubtedly one of the key source species for elevating salinity tolerance in cultivated rice. 相似文献

Effects of Indoleacetic Acid on the Quantity of Mitochondria, Microbodies, and Plastids in the Apical and Expanding Cells of Dark-grown Oat Coleoptiles 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0 下载免费PDF全文
We determined the number of mitochondria, microbodies, and plastids in dark-grown oat (Avena sativa) coleoptiles following incubation in indoleacetic acid (IAA) for a period of 60 minutes at 6-minute intervals. In the apical outer epidermis of coleoptiles, the mitochondria increased from 31.4 to 35 per cell section with a 6-minute incubation in IAA, and this trend persisted over the 60-minute incubation. Neither the microbodies, plastids, nor the dicytosomes (Gawlik and Miller 1974 Plant Physiol 54:217-221) responded to the hormone. The apical parenchyma showed no change in quantity of any of the organelles including the dictyosomes during IAA incubation. The quick response of mitochondria in the coleoptile tip could be interpreted as an association of this organelle with hormone transport, growth, or perhaps with gravity perception. In the subapical expansion region, IAA caused significant reductions of mitochondria, microbodies, and dictyosomes in the outer epidermis compared to the control, the timing of which preceded the IAA-induced elongation and of geotropism. The fast response of organelles in the various cells is probably a change in organelle volume rather than number. That microbodies show a response to the plant hormone in the permanently achlorophyllous epidermis indicates that these organelles, in addition to their peroxisomal functions in green leaves, also may have a growth regulation function. IAA treatment was without effect on the quantity of the various types of plastids (including the amyloplasts) in the different oat coleoptile cells. 相似文献

The effect of neurotensin on submaximally-stimulated hepatobiliary and pancreatic secretion was studied in 6 healthy subjects. An intravenous infusion of neurotensin 1.4 ± 0.3 pmol/kg/min, designed to reproduce plasma neurotensin immunoreactivity levels within the physiological range, produced a significant increase in pancreatic bicarbonate output. Plasma concentrations of pancreatic polypeptide rose by 83 ± 16 pmol/l and were associated with a small reduction in trypsin, but no significant change in bilirubin outputs. 相似文献

Using the interferometric technique the authors studied the effect of simultaneous administration of ibuprofen (Polfa) and ethanol on the activity of alkaline phosphatase in the proximal jejunum. Both ibuprofen and ethanol cause in the digestive tract functional and morphological changes. The used technique of quantitative determination of alkaline phosphatase activity at the site of its primary location made possible an assessment of changes in the activity of the enzyme caused by the administered agents. It was found that after 60 days of the experiment both agents caused a statistically greater changes were observed in the rats receiving both these agents simultaneously. The obtained results suggest the conclusion that simultaneous administration of ibuprofen and ethanol causes in the mucosal gland in the proximal small intestine development of an interaction of the additive. 相似文献
