Jsowerbya, nov. gen. (Gastropoda: Muricidae) includes three species from the Eocene of the Paris and Hampshire basins. It increases the number of extinct muricid genera, which curiously represent a very small fraction of the described genera. The species of Jsowerbya, often mistaken for the muricopsine genus Muricopsis, possess a unique combination of characters shared with the subfamilies Ocenebrinae and Ergalataxinae. A cladistic analysis, based on structural homologies of the spiral sculpture, however, suggests that Jsowerbya is closely related to the Ocenebrinae. Thus, Jsowerbya is here regarded as one the most basal Ocenebrinae. 相似文献

Horseradish peroxidase was chemically conjugated on its carbohydrate moieties with short aliphatic chains (C8 and C16). An analytical method using FT.IR spectroscopy was developed to analyze this alteration in enzyme structure. Making use of a newly designed mobilizable suicide vector, the genetic determinants encoding Shigella sonnei lipopolysaccharide (LPS) were stably integrated into the chromosome of the live attenuated Vibrio cholerae vaccine strain CVD103-HgR. Expression studies showed that the production of complete S. sonnei O-polysaccharide (O-PS)-bearing LPS was limited in bivalent recombinant strains that were also proficient in the synthesis of the host-encoded Inaba O-PS. Conversely, high amounts of LPS carrying S. sonnei O-PS are produced in monovalent Inaba-deficient derivatives, even in those strains which do not co-express the compatible R1 LPS core. Thus, the non-enterobacterial V. cholerae LPS core efficiently acts as a receptor for covalent binding of S. sonnei O-PS provided that competition with the host O-PS is avoided. Expression of the R1 core interferes with cell division in recombinant V. cholerae without affecting other physiological properties of vaccine strain CVD103-HgR. Both monovalent and bivalent strains stimulated high serum-antibody titres specific for their respective O-serotype(s) when administered to rabbits. The potential of V. cholerae as an expression carrier for heterologous O-serotypes is discussed. 相似文献

The study of the migration dynamics of glass eels(Anguilla anguilla) in a small estuary of the French Atlantic coast shows a two-stage sequence: (1) From November to March, the glass eels migrate upstream by using the tidal currents. The estuarine hydrology leads to a natural trapping of migrants in a typical area where the current speed slows down. The location of this zone depends on hydraulic conditions. The greater the tide is the farther upstream this area will be. This phenomenon leads to an increasing catchability of elvers. (2) From April onwards, when the water temperature reaches 10–12 °C, the glass eels swim actively upstream in the estuary. Then, fish concentrate just below the first dam. This behaviour shift shows the beginning of the colonization process of the whole riverine system. 相似文献

The expression of end-chain sugar residues and of oligosaccharidic sequences has been investigated in chick germ cells at critical stages during the migration, proliferation and sexual differentiation of these cells. Fluorescent lectins and indirect immunofluorescence studies using the NC-1/HNK-1 monoclonal antibody indicate a remarkable control of glycosylation during germ cell embryonal life. Besides a retained expression of glucose/mannose residues, it was found that alpha- and beta-galactose residues, N-acetyllactosamine and N-N' diacetylchitobiose sequences as well as the sulfated trisaccharidic NC-1 epitope were detectable in a stage-specific pattern. Present at a very high density in the cytoplasm and on the surface of the early germ cells at premigrative and migratory stages, the staining for these carbohydrate sequences gradually disappeared when the germ cells settled and proliferated in the developing gonadal primordia. The disaccharide Gal beta 1----3 Gal NAc was exclusively detected in migrating PGCs. In sexualized gonads, acetyllactosamine and/or diacetylchitobiose were similarly reexpressed in both oogonia and spermatogonia. Spermatogonia displayed beta-galactose residues and a high immunoreactivity with the NC1 Mab, indicating modulations in PGC glycosylations related to the acquisition of sexual phenotypes. The light chain of tetanus neurotoxin (TeNT L chain)has been shown to be endowed with zinc endopeptidaseactivity, selectively directed towards theGln76–Phe77 bond of synaptobrevin, avesicle-associated membrane protein criticallyinvolved in neuroexocytosis. In previous reports,truncations at the NH2- and COOH-terminus ofsynaptobrevin have shown that the sequence 39–88 ofsynaptobrevin is the minimum substrate of TeNT,suggesting either the requirement of a well-definedthree-dimensional structure of synaptobrevin or a rolein the mechanism of substrate hydrolysis for residuesdistal from the cleavage site. In this study, theaddition of NH2- and COOH-terminal peptides ofsynaptobrevin, S 27–55 (S1) and S 82–93(S2), to the synaptobrevin fragment S 56–81allowed the cleavage of this latter peptide by TeNT tooccur. This appears to result from an activationprocess mediated by the simultaneous binding ofS1 and S2 with complementary sites presenton TeNT as shown by surface plasmon resonanceexperiments. All these results favor anexosite-controlled hydrolysis of synaptobrevin by TeNTprobably involving a conformational change of thetoxin. Two glucoamylases (I and II) were produced during solid-state culture of Aspergillus hennebergi (A. niger group) on cassava meal, whereas one glucoamylase and one alpha-amylase were synthesized by the mould in liquid culture. These glucoamylases were acidic proteins with thermotolerant activities. Glucoamylase I was not a glycoprotein, but glucoamylase II and the glucoamylase from liquid cultures contained 15% of sugars. The alpha-amylase was significantly less thermotolerant and of smaller molecular weight. The influence of culture conditions on the production of different amylases by the same Aspergillus strain on the same substrate is discussed. 相似文献

Ecological memory refers to the influence of past events on the response of an ecosystem to exogenous or endogenous changes. Memory has been widely recognized as a key contributor to the dynamics of ecosystems and other complex systems, yet quantitative community models often ignore memory and its implications.Recent modeling studies have shown how interactions between community members can lead to the emergence of resilience and multistability under environmental perturbations. We demonstrate how memory can be introduced in such models using the framework of fractional calculus. We study how the dynamics of a well-characterized interaction model is affected by gradual increases in ecological memory under varying initial conditions, perturbations, and stochasticity.Our results highlight the implications of memory on several key aspects of community dynamics. In general, memory introduces inertia into the dynamics. This favors species coexistence under perturbation, enhances system resistance to state shifts, mitigates hysteresis, and can affect system resilience both ways depending on the time scale considered. Memory also promotes long transient dynamics, such as long-standing oscillations and delayed regime shifts, and contributes to the emergence and persistence of alternative stable states. Our study highlights the fundamental role of memory in communities, and provides quantitative tools to introduce it in ecological models and analyse its impact under varying conditions. 相似文献
