The composition of the essential oil isolated from leaves and flowers of Pulicaria incisa sub. candolleana E. Gamal ‐Eldin , growing in Egypt, was analysed by GC and GC‐MS. Forty‐nine and 68 compounds were identified from the oils of the leaves and flowers accounting for 86.69 and 84.29%, respectively of the total detected constituents. Both leaves and flowers oils were characterized by the high content of carvotanacetone with 66.01, 50.87 and chrysanthenone 13.26, 24.3%, respectively. The cytotoxic activity of both essential oils was evaluated against hepatocellular carcinoma cell line HEPG‐2, using MTT assay and vinblastine as a reference drug. Leaf oil showed higher activity with IC50 11.4 μg/ml compared with 37.4 μg/ml for flower oil. The antimicrobial activity of both oils was evaluated using agar well diffusion method towards two representatives for each of Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria as well as four representatives for fungi. The minimum inhibitory concentration of both essential oils against bacterial and fungal strains was obtained in the range of 0.49 – 15.63 μg/ml.  相似文献

Thymus munbyanus subsp. coloratus (Lamiaceae) is a small shrub endemic to Algeria and Morocco where is found in lawns, rockeries and mountainous regions. From a phytochemical point of view this taxon has never been characterized. In this work we have analysed the chemical compositions of the essential oils obtained from inflorescences and vegetative parts by GC/MS. A new chemotype, i.e. borneol‐chemotype, was characterized for the first time in the species. Furthermore, we assessed the biological activities of essential oils, namely the antioxidant, antimicrobial and cytotoxicity on tumor cells that were evaluated by the DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP, disc diffusion, and MTT methods, respectively. Biological assays highlighted a moderate inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans (inhibition zone diameter in the range 9 – 10 mm), and noteworthy cytotoxicity on A375 human melanoma cells (IC50 of 46.95 μg/ml).  相似文献

We present draft genome assemblies of Beta patula, a critically endangered wild beet endemic to the Madeira archipelago, and of the closely related Beta vulgaris ssp. maritima (sea beet). Evidence‐based reference gene sets for B. patula and sea beet were generated, consisting of 25 127 and 27 662 genes, respectively. The genomes and gene sets of the two wild beets were compared with their cultivated sister taxon B. vulgaris ssp. vulgaris (sugar beet). Large syntenic regions were identified, and a display tool for automatic genome‐wide synteny image generation was developed. Phylogenetic analysis based on 9861 genes showing 1:1:1 orthology supported the close relationship of B. patula to sea beet and sugar beet. A comparative analysis of the Rz2 locus, responsible for rhizomania resistance, suggested that the sequenced B. patula accession was rhizomania susceptible. Reference karyotypes for the two wild beets were established, and genomic rearrangements were detected. We consider our data as highly valuable and comprehensive resources for wild beet studies, B. patula conservation management, and sugar beet breeding research.  相似文献

Sideritis montana subsp. montana is a small annual herb occurring in countries bordering the Mediterranean and Balkan regions. The secondary metabolism of this plant has not been fully explored so far. The aim of the present study was to understand the complex mixture of secondary metabolites and the type of secretory structures. The polar constituents were isolated by column chromatography from the ethanolic extract, and their structure was elucidated by NMR and MS. The essential oil was isolated by hydrodistillation and analysed by GC/MS. The plant indumentum was studied by light and scanning electron microscopy. To complete the work, the essential oil antioxidant activity and cytotoxicity on tumor cells were evaluated by DPPH, ABTS, FRAP, and MTT methods. Four different classes of secondary metabolites were isolated, namely flavonoids, caffeoylquinic derivatives, glycosidic hydroquinones and iridoids. The essential oil was mainly characterized by sesquiterpenene hydrocarbons. Peltate and long‐capitate hairs were the main sites where terpenes and polar constituents are produced. The secondary metabolites found in S. montana subsp. montana are of chemotaxonomic interest, some of them being typical of the genus Sideritis. The trichomes types observed partially differ from those described in other members of the genus Sideritis. The essential oil showed noteworthy inhibition on tumor cells.  相似文献

The effects of cold pretreatment, AgNO3 and activated charcoal on haploid plant production from unpollinated sugar beet ovules were investigated. Both cold pretreatment and the addition of charcoal increased the frequency of embryo formation, whereas AgNO3 decreased or completely inhibited it. Colchicine (50, 100, 150 or 500 mg l–1) and trifluralin (1.7, 3.4 or 5.0 mg l–1) for 12, 24, 36 or 48 h were compared in agar-solidified, agarose-solidified or liquid media. Although colchicine gave a higher doubling rate (25.3%) than trifluralin (18.2%), the difference was not significant. Both agents were more effective when used in liquid (29.1%) than agarose-solidified medium (20.7%) and agar-solidified medium (15.4%). A treatment duration of 48 h was significantly more effective (27.5%) than 12 h (13.6%) but it was not different from 24 h (16.3%) or 36 h (18.6%). The effect of a revised Linsmaier-Skoog (LS) medium on betacyanin production was investigated in suspension cultures of table beet (Beta vulgaris L.). The effects of a high iron concentration and low concentration of zinc on betacyanin production were not cumulative. The composition of the new revised medium for high betacyanin production was established by reducing the concentration of inorganic nitrogen (30 mM), modifying the ratio of ammonium to nitrate (1:14), reducing the concentration of zinc (0.0003 mM), and removing copper and cobalt. The revised LS medium enabled the maximum betacyanin yield of 550 mg/l to be obtained from a 14-day culture. This medium promoted the betacyanin production in three types of cell line differing in the betacyanin productivity. The betacyanin productivity (40 mg/l?day) was higher than that quoted in any other previous reports.  相似文献

Essential oil compositions of fresh leaves, flower stems and rhizomes obtained by hydrodistillation from different Croatian populations of Petasites albus (L.) Gaertn. and Petasites hybridus (L.) G.Gaertn., B.Mey. & Scherb. (four of each species) were investigated using gas chromatography‐flame ionization detection and gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry. Altogether, 118 constituents were identified, accounting for 81.19–96.81 % of total oil composition. All essential oils were characterized by oxygenated sesquiterpenes, with distinct compounds recorded for both investigated species. Clear separation between the two species was confirmed by principal component analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis. This is the first study that recorded intraspecific variations of essential oil constituents from P. albus and P. hybridus. Obtained results could contribute to the understanding of their medicinal and nutritional value.  相似文献

The chemical composition of the essential oils isolated from the aerial parts of Micromeria inodora (Desf .) Benth . collected in 24 Algerian localities was investigated from the first time using GC‐FID, GC/MS and 13C‐NMR. Altogether, 83 components which accounted for 94.7% of the total oil composition were identified. The main compounds were trans‐sesquisabinene hydrate ( 1 ; 20.9%), α‐terpinyl acetate ( 2 ; 19.8%), globulol ( 3 ; 4.9%), caryophyllene oxide ( 4 ; 4.3%), β‐bisabolol ( 5 ; 2.9%) and trans‐7‐epi‐sesquisabinene hydrate ( 6 ; 2.6%). Comparison with the literature highlighted the originality of the Algerian Minodora oil and indicated that 1 might be used as taxonomical marker. The study of the chemical variability allowed the discrimination of two main clusters confirming that there is a relation between the essential‐oil compositions and the soil nature of the harvest locations. Biological activity of Minodora essential oil was assessed against fourteen species of microorganisms involved in nosocomial infections using paper disc diffusion and dilution agar assays. The in vitro study demonstrated a good activity against Gram‐positive strains such as Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis, and Enterococcus faecalis, and moderate activity against Candida albicans. These results might be useful for the future commercial valorization of Minodora essential oil as a promising source of natural products with potential against various nosocomial community and toxinic infections.  相似文献

Various species of the genus Phlomis have been reported to produce metabolites demonstrating significant pharmacological efficiency. In this study, the essential oils from twelve populations of Phlomis olivieri collected from natural habitats were investigated for their chemical components. The hydrodistillated essential oil analyzed by GC‐FID and GC/MS. Analyses revealed 27 compounds, constituting 90.52 – 98.51% of the essential oils. Results indicated that the major components of the essential oils from various populations of P. olivieri were germacrene D (26.54 – 56.41%), bicyclogermacrene (6.38 – 30.55%), β‐caryophyllene (5.32 – 24.52%) and α‐pinene (1.29 – 15.53%). Principal component analyses (PCA) was used to identify any geographical variations in essential oil composition. Notably, three groups of Iranian P. olivieri populations were determined according to the major compounds. Results of the in vitro antibacterial activity indicated that P. olivieri essential oils showed good inhibitory activities against bacteria, especially Bacillus subtilis. The results of this study gave new insights for cultivation and industrial uses of P. olivieri in Iran.  相似文献

By means of rotatory belt fractional distillation, LC, HPLC, PGC and derivative methods, 27 compounds were separated from the essential oil which isolated from Zanthoxylum avicennae (Lam.) DC. by stream distillation. Twenty two of them were identified by the methods of IR, GC/IR,, 1H-NMR,18C-NMR, GC/MS/DS and the preparation of derivatives. Among them, 4-methyl-6-acetoxyhexanal was first found in nature. Fifteen compounds have been tested their antimildew activities. Citral, l-octanol, 4-methyl-6-acetoxyhexanal and linalool showed strong activities. The relationships between the structure of compounds of essential oil and their respective antimildew activities are also dealt with in this paper.  相似文献

The essential oil extracted by hydrodistillation from Romanian Artemisia annua aerial parts was characterized by GC/MS analysis, which allowed the identification of 94.64% of the total oil composition. The main components were camphor (17.74%), α‐pinene (9.66%), germacrene D (7.55%), 1,8‐cineole (7.24%), transβ‐caryophyllene (7.02%), and artemisia ketone (6.26%). The antimicrobial activity of this essential oil was evaluated by determining the following parameters: minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC), minimal fungicidal concentration (MFC), and minimal biofilm eradication concentration (MBEC). Moreover, the soluble virulence factors were quantified with different biochemical substrates incorporated in the culture media. The reference and resistant, clinical strains proved to be susceptible to the A. annua oil, with MICs ranging from 0.51 to 16.33 mg/ml. The tested essential oil also showed good antibiofilm activity, inhibiting both the initial stage of the microbial cell adhesion to the inert substratum and the preformed mature biofilm. When used at subinhibitory concentrations, the essential oil proved to inhibit the phenotypic expression of five soluble virulence factors (hemolysins, gelatinase, DNase, lipases, and lecithinases). Briefly, the present results showed that the A. annua essential oil contained antimicrobial compounds with selective activity on Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacterial strains as well as on yeast strains and which also interfere with the expression of cell‐associated and soluble virulence factors.  相似文献

The effect of microelements in the Linsmaier-Skoog (LS) medium on betacyanin production was investigated in suspension cultures of table beet (Beta vulgaris L.). Removing zinc from the medium resulted in a high betacyanin content of the cells, the betacyanin content of the cells decreasing with increasing zinc concentration in the medium. The betacyanin content of cells cultured in the medium without zinc was twice as high as that in the medium containing 0.03 mM of zinc. In the revised LS medium without zinc, the maximum betacyanin yield was obtained of 590 mg/I from a 21-day culture.  相似文献

In recent years, antimicrobial activities of essential oils have been intensively explored, mainly in researching and developing new antimicrobial agents to overcome microbial resistance. The present study investigates the chemical composition and antimicrobial activities of essential oils obtained from two Asteraceae: Asteriscus graveolens (Forssk .) Less . and Pulicaria incisa (Lam .) DC. Chemical analysis was performed using a combination of capillary GC‐FID and GC/MS analytical techniques. The major component of Asteriscus graveolens were cis‐chrysanthenyl acetate (31.1%), myrtenyl acetate (15.1%), and kessane (11.5%), while for Pulicaria incisa the main components were chrysanthenone (45.3%) and 2,6‐dimethylphenol (12.6%). The oils obtained from the aerial parts were tested against sixteen microbial strains by agar well diffusion technique and dilution methods and showed minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) in the range of 19 – 1250 μg/ml. A good antibacterial activity against a common nosocomial pathogen, Acinetobacter baumanniiATCC 19606 was observed, especially from Pulicaria incisa essential oil, with a MIC value up to 19 μg/ml. These results give significant information about the pharmacological activity of these essential oils, which suggest their benefits to human health, having the potential to be used for medical purposes.  相似文献

The chemical composition of the essential oil isolated from the aerial parts of Pulicaria sicula (L.) Moris was characterized by GC‐FID and GC/MS analyses. The oil was particularly rich in oxygenated terpenoids. Among the oxygenated monoterpenes (content of 44.5%), the most abundant were borneol (23.7%), bornyl acetate (6.5%), and isothymol isobutyrate (6.2%). Caryophyllene oxide (10.2%), caryophylladienol I (4.3%), and caryophylla‐3,8(13)‐dien‐5β‐ol (4.4%) were identified as the main constituents among the oxygenated sesquiterpenes. Furthermore, a complete literature review on the composition of the essential oils of all the Pulicaria taxa studied so far was performed and a principal component analysis (PCA) was carried out.  相似文献

Due to the several side effects of synthetic pesticides, including environmental pollution, threats to human health, and the development of pest resistance to insecticides, the use of alternative healthy, available and efficient agents in pest management strategies is necessary. Recently, the use of essential oil obtained from aromatic plants has shown significant potential for insect pest management. For this reason, the essential oil isolated from seeds of Thapsia garganica L. was investigated for the first time for its chemical profile, and its toxicity and repellency effects against Tribolium castaneum adults. Qualitative and quantitative analyses of the chemical composition by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC/MS) revealed the presence of 18 organic volatiles representing 96.8 % of the total constituents. The main compounds were 1,4-dimethylazulene (51.3 %) followed by methyl palmitate (8.2 %), methyl linoleate (6.2 %) and costol (5.1 %). Concerning the repellent effect, results revealed that SEO (Seed Essential Oil) was very repellent towards T. castaneum adults, with 100 % repellency after 2 h of exposure. Furthermore, the essential oil exhibited remarkable contact toxicity against T. castaneum (93.3 % of mortality) at the concentration of 10 % (v/v). The median lethal dose (LD50) of the topical application of the seed essential oil was 4.4 %. These encouraging outcomes suggested that the essential oil from T. garganica seeds could be considered a potent natural alternative to residual persistent and toxic insecticides.  相似文献
