A floristic classification for monsoon rain forest vegetation in the Northern Territory, Australia, is derived based on comprehensive floristic inventory and environmental data. Allied aims include relating the floristic classification to Australia-wide structural and floristic schema, documenting species richness, and exploring site-environmental relations. TWINSPAN classification and complementary DCA analysis of a data set comprising 1219 sites x 55 9 rain forest taxa yielded 16 floristic assemblages. A diagnostic floristic key to these groups is presented. Eight groups describe rain forests associated with sites of perennial moisture; eight groups are associated with seasonally dry landforms. The structural typology of Australian rain forests is found wanting when applied to relatively simple monsoon rain forest communities. Rain forest patches are mostly less than 5 ha in size; maximum species richness is ca. 135 species per patch. Two major environmental gradients are identified through indirect gradient analysis: a primary latitudinal-moisture gradient and a subsidiary topographic-drainage gradient. Given the demonstrated tolerance of monsoon rain forest to a broad range of environmental conditions, the question remains: why is this vegetation type so restricted in occurrence in northern Australia?  相似文献

A pro forma is presented which is based on selected physiognomic–structural features of tropical forest vegetation. It was designed to facilitate collection of data by non-botanists, and the occurrence of features was assessed either by presence/absence or on a four-point scale. Data were collected in a mixture of rain forests and sclerophyll forests in North Queensland and New Guinea, and analysed by an agglomerative polythetic method to provide a classification of sites. The structural classification of the simple forests (regrowth rain forests, forests under extreme limiting conditions and eucalypt woodlands) was unsatisfactory, and floristic differentiation is necessary. However, the structural classification of the complex forests, and of mature forest vegetation over a wide environmental range, produced meaningful site-groupings below the subformation level. The method of structural analysis is rapid and relatively inexpensive, and shows most promise in complex tropical vegetation for which floristic data are not usually available.  相似文献

To assess the main factors driving epiphytic angiosperm distribution throughout the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, we compiled 57 floristic surveys and analysed species composition under the influence of environmental variables, space and vegetation type using canonical correspondence analysis (CCA), similarity (Sorensen) and Mantel's tests. The indicator value index (IndVal) was used to find indicator species of each Brazilian Atlantic Forest vegetation type. Group sharpness analysis was performed in order to determine the appropriate group partition level. CCA showed a separation of the epiphytic flora reflecting temperature and rainfall gradients. Mantel's test showed that environment and space were highly correlated with floristic similarity. Cluster analysis, indicating floristic similarity, resolved five groups, mainly grouped by region. Clear differentiation of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest epiphytic flora on a north–south axis with a strong correlation with temperature and rainfall gradients was found. The role of space and environment on species composition varied according to distinct epiphytic species groups. In particular, for Bromeliaceae and Orchidaceae, the main factor associated with floristic similarity was space. Aims We analyse here the variations in species composition and richness and the geographic ranges of the tree species occurring in South American subtropical Atlantic and Pampean forests. Our goals were to assess (i) the floristic consistency of usual classifications based on vegetation physiognomy, climate and elevation; (ii) the leading role of temperature-related variables on the variations in species composition and richness; (iii) the predominance of species with tropical–subtropical ranges, possibly as a result of forest expansion over grasslands after the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM); (iv) the restriction of most subtropical endemics to stressful habitats as a possible result of past forest refuges during the LGM.Methods The region was defined by the Tropic of Capricorn to the north, the Rio de la Plata to the south, the Atlantic shoreline to the east and the catchment areas of the upper Paraná and Uruguay Rivers to the west. Multivariate analyses, multiple regression modelling and variance partition analyses were performed on a database containing 63 994 occurrence records of 1555 tree species in 491 forest sites and 48 environmental variables. All species were also classified according to their known geographic range.Important findings A main differentiation in species composition and richness was observed between the eastern windward coastlands (rain and cloud forests) and western leeward hinterlands (Araucaria and semi-deciduous forests). Pre-defined forest types on both sides were consistent with variations in tree species composition, which were significantly related to both environmental variables and spatial proximity, with extremes of low temperature playing a chief role. Tree species richness declined substantially towards the south and also from rain to seasonal forests and towards the highland summits and sandy shores. Species richness was significantly correlated with both minimum temperature and actual evapotranspiration. About 91% of the subtropical flora is shared with the much richer tropical flora, probably extracting species that can cope with frost outbreaks. The 145 subtropical endemics were not concentrated in harsher habitats.  相似文献

镜泊湖世界地质公园火山口孕育了罕见的原始地下森林,本研究为完善中国火山生态系统苔藓植物区系地理起源提供重要资料。基于前期野外调查、标本采集和物种鉴定数据,已知苔藓植物53科126属292种,采用分层聚类分析和主成分分析方法探讨区系地理特点。结果表明:(1)镜泊湖火山口地下森林苔藓植物单种属和寡种属占绝对优势,共106属(占总属数84.13%)152种(占总种数52.05%)。(2)区系地理成分共11种,北温带分布占主体(49.12%),东亚分布次之(21.55%),中国特有分布第三(8.48%)。(3)地下森林中国特有苔藓植物可能沿“北线”以山脉为通道进行传播。(4)镜泊湖火山口地下森林与镜泊湖火山熔岩台地苔藓植物区系相似性最高。此外,发现受威胁苔藓植物7种。总之,镜泊湖火山口地下森林苔藓植物区系的主要特点为起源古老,组成复杂,北温带性质明显,与东亚苔藓植物区系具有深厚的历史渊源,凭火山锥内部优越的微生境成为中国特有和珍稀濒危苔藓植物的避难所。  相似文献

Abstract. This paper analyses the floristic variation in the southern segment of the Oriental Chaco, known as the Santa Fe Forest Wedge. Floristical variation in Chaco forests is described at three levels of scale. On the coarsest scale there is a gradient of increasing floristic richness towards the north, related to a geographic temperature gradient. At an intermediate scale different types of forests are arranged according to environmental gradients correlated with topographic elevation. At a fine scale many microsites can be discerned with different micro-environments colonized differentially by species. Microsites arise as the result of site-physiographic history, development of vegetation and the interaction of both and with animals. Several dimensions of regenerationniche variation are distinguished, including canopy and soil characteristics, and propagule dispersal.  相似文献

Aims Forest vegetation variability may be explained by the complex interplay among several spatial structuring factors, including climate and topography. We modelled the spatial variability of forest vegetation assemblages and significant environmental variables along a complex environmental gradient or coenocline to produce a detailed cartographic database portraying the distribution of forests along it.Methods We combined an analysis of ordination coenoclines with kriging over 772 field data plots from the third Spanish National Forest Inventory in an Atlantic–Mediterranean transitional area (northern Spain).Important findings The best fitted empirical semivariogram revealed a strong spatial structure of forest species composition along the complex environmental gradient considered (the climatic–topographic gradient from north to south). The steady and gradual increase of semivariance with a marked lag distance indicates a gradual turnover of forest assemblages according to the climatic–topographic variations (regional or local). Two changes in the slope of the semivariogram suggest the existence of two different scales of spatial variation. The interpolation map by Kriging of forest vegetation assemblages along the main coenocline shows a clear spatial distribution pattern of trees and shrubs in accordance with the spatial variation of significant environmental variables. We concluded that the multivariate geostatistical approach is a suitable technique for spatial analysis of forest systems employing data from national forest inventories based on a regular network of field plots. The development of an assortment of maps describing changes in vegetation assemblages and variation in environmental variables is expected to be a suitable tool for an integrated forest management and planning.  相似文献

陕北黄土高原有蒿属植物30种1变种,居该地产种子植物属中所含种数的首位。所产蒿属植物在不同的植被带中梯度变化明显,替代现象显著。在生态类型上,旱生类型从南向北递增,中生类型从南向北递减。在区系组成上可分为6种分布区类型,即:我国特有分布,3种;温带亚洲分布,14种1变种;北温带及中亚分布各4种;旧世界温带分布,3种;东亚分布的2种。可见陕北黄土高原蒿属植物种类丰富,梯度变化明显,旱化现象显著,地理成分复杂,但以温带亚洲分布类型为主,兼有其它成分,属典型的温带性质。  相似文献

Northern Tierra del Fuego is the insular extreme of the Magellanic steppe, a unique example of a cold-temperate oceanic grassland in South America. We surveyed this poorly known region with a landscape-based procedure to classify plant communities and investigate environmental gradients. Sampling sites were selected with the aid of aerial photos, and floristic composition, soil, topography and landform type were recorded in each site. Classification was achieved with Two-Way Indicator Species Analysis and gradients were analyzed with Detrended Canonical Correspondence Analysis. Two broad groups of communities were separated by the presence of typical acidophilous dwarf shrubs: acidophilous/mesotrophic and neutrophilous vegetation. Along the main floristic gradient, ericoid dwarf shrubs were replaced by forbs and grasses as soil acidity decreased. The acidic habitats were on Pleistocene glacial and alluvial deposits, and had coarse texture, poorly decomposed organic matter, and low base status. The eutrophic habitats were on Tertiary rocks of medium to fine texture and had well-decomposed organic matter and high base status. A second axis of variation was associated to latitudinal position and slope aspect, revealing a precipitation/evaporation gradient. Scrubs dominated by midheight shrubs, with species from the southern forests, were at the humid extreme (higher latitudes/south aspects); and short grass steppes, with taxa commonly found further North in the continent, at the xeric end (lower latitudes/north aspects). Although fertility and moisture seem to control the overall floristic gradient, the extreme vegetation types of the fertility gradient, both having a very simple structure, could be attributed to grazing disturbance. Floristics and ecology of the Fuegian steppe resemble to a certain degree some boreal oceanic systems.  相似文献

伏牛山国家级自然保护区位于中国东部亚热带和暖温带的过渡区,植被优势种明显,以灌木优势种为主体进行植物功能群分类,可以对森林生态系统的功能、框架结构及类群分布有一个明确的认识.采用群落生态学的调查方法,在伏牛山南北坡设置66个典型样方.根据调查结果,通过计算重要值,选取优势度相对较大的灌木树种进行种间联结及相关性分析,以X2(卡方)检验为基础,结合联结系数AC和共同出现百分率PC来测定灌木优势种间的联结性,根据优势种间的联结性及其在海拔梯度上的变化异同来划分植物功能群,把灌木优势种划分为7组植物功能群.植物功能群间物种表现出显著正联结,一起在同一生境中出现的几率较大,在长期的生长演化过程中,能适应相似的资源环境和对干扰有相似的响应,所以将其划分同一组植物功能群.植物功能群内有一些重要的形态特征有相似之处,功能群间的形态特征有明显的区别,如叶片的大小、形状等,功能群的这些相似及区别还需要生理生态学的进一步研究.  相似文献

Abstract We examined relations between vegetation and soils, using multivariate methods, in hitherto poorly-known upland swamps on the Woronora Plateau, south of Sydney. A major trend in floristic composition was related to the height and cover of the herbaceous stratum and reflected a gradient in soil moisture and nutrients. A second trend in floristic composition was related to the height and cover of the shrub stratum, and may reflect the influence of recurring fires on certain dominant shrub species. Five plant communities were recognized on the basis of floristic composition and were distinguishable by their different soil habitats and/or structural characteristics. We report some of the highest species-richness values in the world (at scales of 1–15 m2) for shrub/sedge-dominated vegetation, with up to 70 vascular plant species in 15 m2. Variation in species richness is inversely related to the resource gradient and positively related to the penetration of light through the vegetation canopy. This pattern is consistent with resource-competition models and warrants further investigation.  相似文献

Changes in vegetation along a precipitation gradient in Central Argentina were studied. Floristic samples were taken along an east-west transect of about 300 km. Correlation analysis between precipitation and ordination axes was used to provide an environmental interpretation of vegetation variability.Floristic analysis produced an ordination of plant communities from evergreen forests (precipitation >500 mm) to desert shrublands and therophyte communities (precipitation <200 mm). Results showed a trend of floristic and structural impoverishment towards the west. There is a replacement of species along the transect and a shift in dominant growth forms. The first ordination axis is significantly, negatively correlated with annual precipitation.  相似文献

The pattern of the latitudinal distribution of the floristic composition and structure of the submerged vegetation cover in the western Tatar Strait (within Khabarovsk Krai) is studied using the published data and original materials. Irregularities of the floristic composition have been found within limited areas of bays in this region, where they do not form any distinct borders or gradients. In the vegetation cover, vice versa, borders and gradients have been shown to form various combinations. The specific biomasses of most of the dominant species are significantly increasing, whereas the width and depth of the vegetation belt decreases from the south to the north. Their regression lines intersect at the latitude of 50° N (Cape Syurkum). Discrete coenotic variations are manifested most clearly as well at this point, where the dominance of Saccharina japonica, observed south of the cape, changes for S. cichorioides north of it. This allows establishing the phytocoenotic border here. The revealed features correspond to the direction of the temperature gradient, as well as to the variations in topical conditions and the level of hydrodynamic load along the coast.  相似文献

Comprehensive new data bases on the taxonomy, distribution, ecology and climate of Banksia (Proteaceae) were used to study the biogeography of the sixty endemic species in southwestern Australia. They occur at the wettest coastal tip, with up to 1.5 m rainfall p.a., 1500 km along the north coast, 1000 km along the south coast and up to 450 km inland to the desert margin, with as low as 0.2 m rainfall p.a. The largest areas (sum of 30´ lat.×30´ long. grid cells) containing banksias were under much more arid climates than those with highest species density. Species density was usually lowest at the climatic extremes. Two nodes of species richness and ten floristic groups, each with a characteristic climate, landscape, vegetation and soil types and suite of indicator and endemic species, were recognized. A case is made for resurrecting the Lesueur (northern node) and Stirling (west portion of the southern node) phytogeographic districts, together with separating the West (east portion of the southern node) from the East Eyre district. These species-rich areas coincide with nutrient impoverished sands and laterite associated with dissected uplands having low, highly sclerophyllous vegetation. The distribution of strongly serotinous species and those with persistent florets is consistent with greater reliance on fire for creating suitable recruitment conditions with increasing aridity. The distribution of needle-leaved species is only partly explained by their superior drought tolerance. A preliminary transplant trial with two Banksia species showed that their distribution was only partly restricted by their current climatic profile.  相似文献

Question: Are long‐unburnt patches of eucalypt forest important for maintaining floristic diversity? Location: Eucalyptus forests of southeastern New South Wales, Australia. Methods: Data from 976 sites representing a range of fire history from three major vegetation formations – shrubby dry sclerophyll forest (SF), grassy dry SF and wet SF – were analysed. Generalized linear models were used to examine changes in species richness with increasing time since wildfire and analysis of similarities to examine changes in community composition. Chi‐squared tests were conducted to examine the distribution of individual species across four time since fire categories. Results: Plant species relationships to fire varied between the three formations. Shrubby dry SF supported lower plant species richness with increasing time since wildfire and this was associated with shifts in community composition. Grassy dry SF showed significant shifts in community composition and species richness in relation to time, with a peak in plant species richness 20–30 yr post fire (either prescribed fire or wildfire). Wet SF increased in species richness until 10–20 yr post wildfire then displayed a general declining trend. Species richness in each vegetation type was not related to the fire frequencies and fire intervals observed in this study. Conclusions: Long‐unburnt (30–50 yr post wildfire) forests appeared to play a minor role in the maintenance of plant species diversity in dry forest systems, although this was more significant in wet forests. Maintenance of a range of fire ages within each vegetation formation will assist in maintaining floristic diversity within regions.  相似文献

Floristic differentiation and vegetation definition is an important step to recognize biome distribution and for biodiversity conservation. Here, we aim to verify if the distribution of the costal lowland vegetation in Brazilian littoral is congruent with climatic gradient and the previous vegetation definitions. Additionally we discussed the importance of terms for the Atlantic Forest conservation. Our study was based on floristic and geo-climatic data from 58 published surveys. We generate a checklist of 1088 woody species and verified species distribution according to environmental gradient using a Detrended Correspondence Analysis (DCA). We compared DCA??s groups with the a priori vegetation definition and generate an a posteriori classification using TWINSPAN. DCA and TWINSPAN resulted in groups determined mainly by rainfall (r = ?0.65) and soil sandiness (r = ?0.71). Those groups were not congruent with both the previous vegetation definitions. The coastal lowland vegetation comprises two distinctive floristic groups representing forests and scrubs that occur in wetter climates (Ombrophilous lowland forests) in the Brazilian states of Santa Catarina, Paraná and São Paulo and in drier climates of Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro (Restinga-Northern group) and Rio Grande do Sul (Restinga-Southern group) states. The floristic and historical relationships between Ombrophylous lowland forests and Restingas suggest that conservation initiatives should be more conservative and treat collectively all coastal lowland vegetation as a biodiversity hotspot.  相似文献
