In vitro activity of cefepime against etiologically significant strains of gramnegative microflora of patients treated in the Reanimation and Intensive Care Unit after cardiosurgical operations was evaluated. Sixty four strains of gramnegative aerobic bacteria isolated within the period from October 2001 to April 2002 were tested. The isolates susceptibility was determined by the disk diffusion method. Cefepime had an obvious advantage over the 3rd generation cephalosporins. Low incidence of cefepime resistant strains of the problem organisms in the Reanimation and Intensive Care Unit should be taken into account in empirical therapy of infections due to such pathogens.  相似文献

We investigate the effect of spatial aggregation in the infection dynamics of nematode parasites in ruminants. We show that a high degree of spatial aggregation is likely to lead to a dramatically enhanced rate of invasion by drug-resistant strains. Strains of Vibrio alginolyticus were regularly isolated from mussels, fish, bottom sediment and seawater from April to October. Vibrio parahaemolyticus was isolated occasionally in samples from mussels and bottom sediment in July and August. None of the species were detected in the cold season. Isolated strains were characterized by growth requirement, morphological characteristics and biochemical tests. In addition the cellular fatty acid composition was determined and compared with standard strains from the family Vibrionaceae. With the exception of some biochemical reactions which distinguish Vibrio alginolyticus from Vibrio parahaemolyticus, growth requirement, morphological characteristics and biochemical reactions are similar for these strains. The close relation between Vibrio alginolyticus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus was also revealed by cluster analyses of fatty acid patterns which combined these two species into one cluster which, however, was clearly separated from the standard strains of Vibrio anguillarum.  相似文献

In this study we characterized new strains of the slightly thermophilic species Rubrobacter radiotolerans and the thermophilic species Rubrobacter xylanophilus, both of which were previously represented only by the type strains isolated, respectively, from Japan and the United Kingdom. The new isolates were recovered from two hot springs in central Portugal after gamma irradiation of water and biofilm samples. We assessed biochemical characteristics, performed DNA–DNA hybridization, and carried out 16S rDNA sequence analysis to demonstrate that the new Rubrobacter isolates belong to the species R. radiotolerans and R. xylanophilus. We also show for the first time that the strains of R. xylanophilus and other strains of R. radiotolerans are extremely gamma radiation resistant. 2005-2006年的1月、4月、7月和10月,利用样带法对广州市新垦红树林湿地和周边农田进行鸟类物种多样性研究。利用Shannon-Wiener指数分析了生境类型的鸟类群落种数、数量、物种多样性、均匀性指数等特征。结果表明,新垦红树林湿地1月鸟类种数高于周边农田湿地2倍,鸟类群落个体数量高于农田湿地9倍;红树林湿地4月和7月鸟类种数高于周边农田湿地1.5倍,鸟类群落个体数量高于农田湿地4倍;红树林湿地10月鸟类种数高于周边农田湿地1.5倍,鸟类群落个体数量高于农田湿地6.8倍;新垦红树林湿地和周边农田湿地鸟类物种多样性表现出明显的季节性变化。  相似文献

Bioassays show that rhizobitoxine-producing strains of Bradyrhizobiumjaponicum excreted another phytotoxic compound into their culturefluid. This compound was purified and identified by HPLC andmass spectrometry as indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). The levelsof IAA produced by the different strains of B. japonicum, forwhich the genotype groups have been determined with respectto the degree of base substitution in and around nifDKE, werequantified using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and adeuterated internal standard. Genotype II strains, which producerhizobitoxine, excreted more than 20µof IAA into theirculture fluid. However, no IAA was detected in the culture supernatantsof genotype I strains, which do not produce rhizobitoxine. Thiswas true even when tryptophan was added to the medium. Moreover,cells of genotypes I and II strains, which were grown underour culture conditions, did not show IAA degradation activity.These results suggest that, in wild-type B. japonicum strains,complete IAA biosynthesis is confined exclusively to genotypeII strains that produce rhizobitoxine. The activities of acid and alkaline phosphatases along with phosphorus content in leaves of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) were studied for a period from April to October. The phosphorus content of beech leaves was highest in April, at the beginning of the vegetation period; from May to October it was twofold lower than in April. Acid phosphatase activity (per unit fresh weight) in leaves collected from the middle part of the crown decreased significantly in May and July compared to the enzyme activity in April. In both the low and middle parts of the crown, the acid phosphatase activity had a peak in August, and thereafter decreased in September and October. No correlations between acid phosphatase activity and phosphorus concentrations were found. Alkaline phosphatase activity was very low and in some cases near the detection limit during the whole observation period.  相似文献

Plasma prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), prostaglandin F2 alpha (PGF2 alpha), androgens and estradiol-17 beta were measured in the male water frog, Rana esculenta, during the annual sexual cycle. In vivo experiments were carried out to study the effects of PGE2 and PGF2 alpha on plasma sex steroids during the following periods: prereproduction (April), reproduction (May), postreproduction (June) and recovery (October). In the same months, in vitro experiments were performed to evaluate the effects of these two prostaglandins (PGs) on testicular release of sex steroids. The PGE2 plasma levels peaked in April. PGE2 treatment in vivo increased androgens in April and October, while PGF2 alpha increased estradiol-17 beta in June and October. In in vitro experiments, PGE2 increased androgens in April, while PGF2 alpha increased estradiol-17 beta in October. These results suggest that PGE2 could induce the breeding activity, probably through androgens synthesis. PGF2 alpha could interrupt the breeding, through estradiol-17 beta secretion.  相似文献

In April 1983, an influenza virus of low virulence appeared in chickens in Pennsylvania. Subsequently, in October 1983, the virus became virulent and caused high mortality in poultry. The causative agent has been identified as an influenza virus of the H5N2 serotype. The hemagglutinin is antigenically closely related to tern/South Africa/61 (H5N3) and the neuraminidase is similar to that from human H2N2 strains (e.g., A/Japan/305/57) and from some avian influenza virus strains (e.g., A/turkey/Mass/66 [H6N2]). Comparison of the genome RNAs of chicken/Penn with other influenza virus isolates by RNA-RNA hybridization indicated that all of the genes of this virus were closely related to those of various other influenza virus isolates from wild birds. Chickens infected with the virulent strain shed high concentrations of virus in their feces (10(7) 50% egg infective dose per g), and the virus was isolated from the albumin and yolk of eggs layed just before death. Virus was also isolated from house flies in chicken houses. Serological and virological studies showed that humans are not susceptible to infection with the virus, but can serve as short-term mechanical carriers. Analysis of the RNA of the viruses isolated in April and October by gel migration and RNA-RNA hybridization suggested that these strains were very closely related. Oligonucleotide mapping of the individual genes of virulent and avirulent strains showed a limited number of changes in the genome RNAs, but no consistent differences between the virulent and avirulent strains that could be correlated with pathogenicity were found. Polyacrylamide gel analysis of the early (avirulent) isolates demonstrated the presence of low-molecular-weight RNA bands which is indicative of defective-interfering particles. These RNAs were not present in the virulent isolates. Experimental infection of chickens with mixtures of the avirulent and virulent strains demonstrated that the avirulent virus interferes with the pathogenicity of the virulent virus. The results suggest that the original avirulent virus was probably derived from influenza viruses from wild birds and that the virulent strain was derived from the avirulent strain by selective adaptation rather than by recombination or the introduction of a new virus into the population. This adaptation may have involved the loss of defective RNAs, as well as mutations, and thus provides a possible model for a role of defective-interfering particles in nature.  相似文献

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) or ubiquinone, a redox component of the mitochondrial electron transport chains, is a powerful antioxidant and membrane stabilizer that may prevent cellular damage during myocardial ischemia and reperfusion therapy. Coenzyme Q10 has been used primarily as an adjuvant therapy for some cardiomyopathies. However, one of the main problems in CoQ10 administration is the high variability of endogenous plasma and tissue levels, which seems to be dependent on several factors. This work explores temporal 24h and seasonal variation as well as gender and racial differences in endogenous plasma ubiquinone concentration. Coenzyme Q10 measurements (quantified by HPLC-UV) of 16 healthy volunteers were done during the daytime hours of activity beginning at 09:00h one day and ending at 09:00h the next day (13 different determinations) in two distinct months, April and October, of the year. A statistically significant circadian rhythm in plasma ubiquinone concentration that includes only the fundamental 24h component was demonstrated both in the April and October data. Furthermore, the time-point means of the ubiquinone concentration in the October study were invariably higher than those obtained in the April study. No statistically significant differences were found in CoQ10 concentration between male and female subjects, both in April and in October. In addition, racial differences were demonstrated; lower plasma ubiquinone levels were found in Caucasian compared to African subjects. However, the latter small group of subjects failed to demonstrate a circadian rhythm, neither in the April nor in the October analysis.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine whether there are seasonal shifts in ovulatory response, and in the viability of ova recovered from superovulated ewes. Fifty mature ewes underwent a standard oestrous synchronisation (CIDR), superovulation (oFSH) and artificial insemination procedure during October (peak breeding season) and April (transition to anoestrus). In each month peripheral LH and progesterone concentrations were measured around the time of ovulation and embryos were recovered, graded and cryopreserved on day 6 after insemination. During the subsequent breeding season, grade 1 and 2 morulae and unexpanded blastocysts were thawed and transferred singly to synchronous recipients (October, n = 40; April, n = 40) or cultured in vitro for 18-20 h (October, n = 107; April, n = 98). Following culture, viable embryos were stained to count cell nuclei or assayed to measure their capacity for glucose metabolism ([3H]glucose) and protein synthesis ([35S]methionine). Peak LH concentrations were higher in October than in April (38.2 +/- 3.26 ng ml(-1) versus 25.7 +/- 1.99 ng ml(-1), respectively; P < 0.01) and the pre-ovulatory LH surge was advanced by approximately 3 h (P < 0.05). Progesterone concentrations at CIDR withdrawal were lower in October than in April (3.1 +/- 0.16 ng ml(-1) versus 4.3 +/- 0.19 ng ml(-1), respectively; P < 0.001) but were not different at embryo recovery. Season did not affect the numbers of corpora lutea per ewe or the numbers of ova recovered but the proportion of recovered ova that was unfertilised/degenerate was lower in October than in April (0.43 versus 0.58, respectively; P < 0.001). For embryos containing more than 16 cells, there was no effect of season on the median stage of development or morphological grade. The proportions of October and April embryos that established pregnancy following transfer to recipient ewes were 0.78 and 0.70 (not significantly different), and that were viable after in vitro culture were 0.66 and 0.37 (P < 0.05), respectively. Season did not affect the number of nuclei per viable embryo or the capacity for protein synthesis but the glucose uptake of October embryos was approximately double that of April embryos (3163+/-293.4 dpm versus 1550+/-358.9 dpm, respectively; P < 0.05). Results indicate that during the late compared to peak breeding season, there is an increased incidence of fertilisation failure as a possible consequence of seasonal shifts in LH secretion and (or) associated effects on follicular function. Frozen-thawed embryos produced at contrasting stages of the breeding season are equally viable in vivo but those produced during the late, as opposed to the peak breeding season have lower viability following in vitro culture.  相似文献

Wing-moult of the Cape Glossy Starling, Red-winged Starling, Pale-winged Starling and Pied Starling was examined primarily from specimens in southern African museums. Breeding data were obtained from nest record cards.
The Cape Glossy Starling breeds from October to March, with the moult period from December to May. There is no evidence of moult-breeding overlap in individual birds. The Red-winged Starling breeds from September to March, while the moult takes place between November and April, overlapping with the second broods. The Pale-winged Starling breeds from October to April and moults between November and May. The Pied Starling moults between November and April, while breeding varies regionally, occurring concurrently with moulting in some areas.  相似文献

Seven treatments for the control of Varroa destructor (Anderson & Trueman) were tested to determine the optimum timing of miticide application. Threshold mite levels indicating miticide application were determined for three possible treatment dates: April, August, and October. The treatments were as follows: (1) fluvalinate in April, (2) fluvalinate in August, (3) fluvalinate in October, (4) fluvalinate in April and October, (5) fluvalinate applied continuously (except during honey flow) with replacement every 42 d, (6) control (no treatment), and (7) coumaphos in April. The number of miticide applications in a season had no effect on brood area or colony bee population a year after initiating the experiment. However, the absence of any treatment significantly reduced brood area and colony bee population and significantly increased colony mite population. Date of treatment had significant effects on colony mortality rates, mite levels, and brood area the following spring. When coupled with sampling and threshold recommendations, a single, late-season application of fluvalinate is as effective for the control of V. destructor as semiannual or continuous miticide applications. Treatment thresholds were recommended for ether roll and 48-h sticky board sampling methods in April (three and 24 mites, respectively) and August (14 and 46 mites, respectively) and for ether rolls in October (three mites) in cold climates.  相似文献

Artemisia judaica L. (Compositae) are shrubby herbs growing wildly in Tabuk region and distributed in the desert regions. This region is characterized by extremely variable environmental conditions where the temperature varies from extreme low to extreme high. These temperature regimes have a profound effect on morphology, growth physiology and biochemistry of the plants. The plant samples were collected from Tabuk–Jordan road (760 m above sea level) in the month of January, April, July and October 2013 to evaluate the effect of temperature dynamics on A. judaica L. in four different seasons. Physiological, biochemical alterations and heat shock proteins (HSPs) were studied during these seasons in order to evaluate the environmental adaptation and stress tolerance in response to temperature variations. Plant growth parameters showed a significant increase in height, fresh and dry matter accumulation, total chlorophyll, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, artemisinin and leaf relative water contents investigated in the month of April and October. Growth of plant was suppressed and an active role of carbonic anhydrase (CA), catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) was observed to cope with the extreme low temperature in January and extreme high temperature in July 2013. However, the plants collected in October and April did not show a statistical difference. Inductions in the expression of HSP90 were recorded in all the plants collected during April and October 2013 with no statistically significant difference. Therefore, based on the results it is recommended that during April and October the environmental conditions are best suitable for growth, development and medicinal use of Artemisia.  相似文献

Background

This study aimed to determine the seasonal changes of total antioxidant activity and phenolic compounds in samples taken from leaves (April, July, October) and stems (April, July, October, January) of some almond (Prunus amygdalus L.) varieties (Nonpareil, Ferragnes and Texas).

Results

It was indicated that antioxidant activity and phenolic compounds in leaves and stems of Nonpareil, Ferragnes and Texas showed seasonal differences. Antioxidant activity IC50 of these varieties reached the highest value in April for leaves whereas in October for stems. The highest level of total phenolic compounds was in January for stems while in October for leaves.

Conclusions

These results showed that total antioxidant activity and phenolics in leaves and stems of almond varieties changed according to season and plant organ.  相似文献

Summary In 1979–80 a field trial of a compound chromosome (CC) strain of the Australian sheep blowfly Lucilia cuprina was conducted in the isolated Brindabella Valley, N.S.W. New genetic material was introduced into the strain before release by inducing 104 new CC elements by irradiation of recently captured field strains, and combining the resulting strains. Weekly releases, averaging 1.1 million larvae per week, were begun in November 1979 and continued to May 1980. Field-inseminated females were trapped weekly and their genotypes and those of their mates were determined through genetic testing. The proportion of wild X wild matings declined from 16% in December 1979 to 1% in April 1980. During this period the proportion of CC X CC matings rose from 50% to 90%. Larvae sampled from infested sheep had compound chromosomes, indicating that compound chromosomebearing females can successfully oviposit in the field. Trapping of flies resumed at the start of the 1980–81 season, without further releases. Progeny tests revealed the presence of both CC and wild flies. The proportions of CC X CC matings among field-inseminated females were 90% in October, 44% in November, nil in December, and 12% in January. No CC X CC matings were detected in 33 field-inseminated females trapped and tested during April, and 70 tested males reared from myiasis samples in April 1981 proved to be wild type. These results indicate that the CC strain overwintered in the field and strongly suggest that it bred in the field for at least one generation following the spring emergence before being eliminated from the population.  相似文献

为了解城市近郊深层土壤中动物群落结构组成, 2012年在北京市北四环和北五环之间的中国科学院奥运村科技园区埋设陷阱收集器, 对地下30 cm和55 cm土层活动的动物进行采样。2013-2017年8次调查共捕获动物3门10纲20目10,163头, 优势类群分别是膜翅目(61.0%)、蜱螨目(12.1%)和弹尾目(11.2%)。30 cm土层动物类群数和个体数均高于55 cm, 30 cm土层优势类群为膜翅目(69.4%), 55 cm土层优势类群除膜翅目(45.7%)外还有蜱螨目(21.8%)和弹尾目(16.4%)。夏秋季动物个体数和类群数高于冬春季, 环节动物门仅出现于冬春季, 而缨翅目、啮虫目和革翅目仅出现于夏秋季。不同绿化带类型间动物群落Jaccard相似性指数均高于0.75, Shannon-Wiener多样性指数、Simpson优势度指数和Pielou均匀度指数均不存在显著性差异(P > 0.05)。结果表明: 深层土壤中存在着大量的动物类群, 动物个体数和类群数均随土层加深而减少。不同季节人工绿地土壤中动物结构存在差异, 而不同植被类型下动物群落组成高度相似。  相似文献

目的 分析院内新生儿获得性肺炎患者病原体分布、药敏情况和相关危险因素,并探讨其临床意义。方法 收集2015年10月至2017年4月于我院接受治疗的100例院内获得性肺炎新生儿为观察组。选择同期于我院出生的未发生院内获得性肺炎的新生儿100例为对照组。采集观察组患儿下呼吸道分泌物,利用全自动微生物分析仪进行菌株种类和数量鉴定,利用K-B纸片扩散法进行药敏试验。对院内获得性肺炎的危险因素进行单因素回归分析。结果 100例院内获得性肺炎新生儿下呼吸道分泌物共检测出病原微生物168株,其中细菌135株(80.36%),病毒30株(17.86%),真菌3株(1.78%)。细菌中革兰阴性菌116株(69.05%),以大肠埃希菌(49株,29.17%)及肺炎克雷伯菌(42株,25.00%)为主;革兰阳性菌19株(11.31%),以金黄色葡萄球菌(10株,5.95%)为主。病毒以呼吸道合胞病毒(23株,13.69%)为主。大肠埃希菌及肺炎克雷伯菌均对常用抗生素具有极高的耐药性,包括氨苄西林、头孢哌酮、头孢曲松及头孢唑林等;对氨基糖苷类、喹诺酮类、碳青霉烯类抗生素高度敏感。新生儿的住院天数、分娩方式及吸痰均与院内获得性肺炎的发生有密切联系,差异均有统计学意义(P<0.05)。结论 新生儿院内获得性肺炎的致病菌以革兰阴性菌为主,临床治疗时可适当选用氨基糖苷类、喹诺酮类、碳青霉烯类抗生素。住院天数、剖腹产及吸痰均为新生儿院内获得性肺炎的危险因素,应加强对上述危险因素的保护。  相似文献
