Asexual reproduction through seeds, or apomixis, is widespread in angiosperms, although does not happen frequently. It occurs in no major crop plant, but its deployment in major crops would afford advantages for breeding and maintenance of hybrid genotypes. Deployment is still a long-term goal, however, since the genetic mechanisms underlying apomixis in nature have not been determined nor has the isolation of apomictic mutants in sexual plants been achieved. Nevertheless, an increasing intensity of research toward these goals over the last decade has greatly expanded our knowledge of genome structure and gene expression in naturally occurring apomicts and female gametophyte development in sexual plants. A common working hypothesis is that apomixis is a “deregulation” of sexual processes and is increasingly supported by gene expression data. Nevertheless, the search for a unique trigger that initiates apomictic development still cannot be disqualified. Further characterization of female gametophyte-related genes and genomes of apomicts and model sexual plants will be fruitful for identifying overlaps in developmental networks.

RICHARDS, A. J., 1990. Studies in Garcinia , dioecious tropical forest trees: agamospermy . In Garcinia , agamospermy is known or suspected for ten species. Most are facultative agamosperms, with males occurring, but males are probably lacking in G. mangostana . In G. mangostana and G. hombroniana , adventitious embryony occurs autonomously, and haploid parthenogenesis may also occur rarely. In G. parvifolia , it is reported previously that gametophytic agamospermy occurs, and adventitious embryos are suppressed. Autonomous endospermy is found in G. mangostana and G. parvifolia . In G. hombroniana , endosperm probably only develops after PEN fertilization. In G. hombroniana , some proembryos are formed precociously, and further proembryo formation is inhibited by sexual embryos. Asexual proembryos tend to occur in large ovules in small ovaries, and sexual embryos tend to occur in small ovules in large ovaries. It is considered that facultative agamospermy renders the genus Garcinia particularly suitable for the development of new types of fruit. Agamospermy in a dioecious genus, adventitious embryony in the absence of fertilization and/or pseudogamy, and the co-occurrence of gametophytic and sporophytic agamospermies in the same genus are unusual phenomena, which are discussed in the context of the lifestyle of a tropical forest tree. Apomixis and adventitious polyembryony have been reported for several species of Bombacoideae, including Eriotheca pubescens, a tree species of the Neotropical savanna (Cerrado) areas in Brazil. However, the origin of polyembryonic seeds and their importance for the reproduction of the species remained to be shown. Here, we analyzed the early embryology of this species to establish the apomictic origin of extranumerary embryos. We also observed the geographic distribution of polyembryony in E. pubescens, and tested if apomixis was related to the source of pollen (self or cross) and population density. Moreover, we tested if polyembryonic apomictic embryos would develop normally into seedlings. In the observed seed primordia, after a relatively long quiescent period, the zygote developed into a sexual embryo concurrently with adventitious apomictic embryos which developed from nucellus cells. Adventitious embryos develop faster than sexual ones and are morphologically similar, so that 44 days after anthesis it was virtually impossible to distinguish and trace the fate of the sexual embryo. Polyembryony is widely distributed in populations some 400 km distant, and only one strictly monoembryonic individual was observed during the study. The number of embryos per seed varied between fruits and individuals but was significantly higher in seeds from cross-pollinations than from selfs, although fruit and seed set after crosses were much lower than after selfs. Embryo development into seedlings depended on their weight at germination, but polyembryonic seeds germinated and produced up to seven seedlings per seed in greenhouse conditions. Adventitious embryony and apomictic seedlings would explain the mostly clonal populations suggested by molecular studies.  相似文献

Multiparasitism studies were conducted in the laboratory between the egg-larval polyembryonic parasitoid Copidosoma floridanum (Ashmead) (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) and the larval endoparasitoid Microplitis demolitor Wilkinson (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) in the mutual host Pseudoplusia includens (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). Most multiparasitized hosts produced either a C. floridanum brood or died without any parasitoid emergence. Most multiparasitized hosts underwent supernumerary molting; however, multiparasitized hosts that produced a C. floridanum brood exhibited growth characteristics associated with C. floridanum parasitism while multiparasitized hosts that died exhibited growth characteristics more typical of M. demolitor parasitism. Multiparasitized hosts that produced a C. floridanum brood increased in weight, and usually exhibited the behavioral and morphological characteristics associated with initiation of metamorphosis. In contrast, multiparasitized hosts that ultimately died gained little weight and exhibited no characteristics associated with metamorphosis. M. demolitor progeny died in multiparasitized hosts as eggs or first instar larvae, but no direct evidence was found to indicate that physical attack by C. floridanum precocious larvae was responsible for their elimination.
Résumé Lors de l'étude au laboratoire du multiparasitisme de Pseudoplusia includens Walker (Lépido. Noctuidae) par le parasitoïde ovolarvaire polyembryonnaire C. floridanum Ashmead (Hyméno. Encyrtidae) et l'endoparasitoïde larvaire M. demolitor Wilkinson (Hyméno. Braconidae), soit les hôtes donnent en majorité C. floridanum, soit ils meurent sans que quoi que ce soit émerge. P. includens non parasité présente 5 stades larvaires; les hôtes parasités par C. floridanum subissent 5 ou 6 stades avant le développement complet du parasitoïde, et les hôtes parasités par M. demolitor muent en stade 5 avant émergence du parasitoïde. Par contre, les hôtes multiparasités muent en stade 7; ceux qui produisent une couvée de C. floridanum ont présenté la croissance caractéristique des hôtes parasités par C. floridanum, tandis que les hôtes multiparasités qui sont morts avaient présenté la croissance caractéristique des hôtes parasités par M. demolitor. La plupart des hôtes multiparasités desquels C. floridanum a émergé ont augmenté de poids et présenté les caractères associés au début de la métamorphose. La descendance de M. demolitor est morte dans les hôtes multiparasités au stade uf ou chenille du premier stade, mais il n'y avait aucum indice d'attaque physique par des larves de C. floridanum qui auraient été responsables de leur élimination.

Maternal pre‐reproductive experience can impose phenotypic changes on offspring traits. These modifications may result from physiological constraints, although they can also increase the adaptation of offspring to their anticipated environment. Distinguishing between the two interpretations is often difficult. The effects of virgin female rearing density on their longevity and the characteristics of their male offspring are explored in the polyembryonic parasitoid wasp Copidosoma koehleri (Blanchard) (Encyrtidae: Hymenoptera). High rearing density may adversely affect maternal physiology or, alternatively, act as a cue for anticipated competition during the lives of the mothers and their offspring. Male offspring of group‐reared females reach pupation significantly sooner than male offspring of females reared alone. This accelerated development may provide an advantage when competition from superparasitising individuals is expected. The lifespan of high‐density females is longer than that of singly‐reared females, and their male offspring survive longer, suggesting that crowded rearing does not reduce the fitness of females or offspring. The shortened development time of male offspring may reflect an adaptive epigenetic response to predicted competitive conditions.  相似文献

With regard to adaptation of green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica Marshall) to ecological conditions in Croatia, pollen germination and pollen tube length after 2, 4 and 6 hours were examined in vitro at 10, 15, 20 and 25°C during two years 2001 and 2002. Narrow leaved ash (F. angustifolia Vahl) pollen served as a control in 2002. The year, time and temperature, and the interaction between time and temperature were significant for both germination percentage and pollen tube length. Interactions year × temperature and year × time were significant for pollen tube length only. The highest germination percentage (17.86% in 2001 and 19.40% in 2002) of green ash pollen was at 15°C after 6 hours. The pollen tube length was greatest at 20°C (393.46 μm) in 2001 and 25°C (899.50 μm) in 2002 after 6 hours. Narrow leaved ash pollen had the highest germination percentage (19.22%) at 20°C after 6 hours and was significantly reduced at 25°C. The pollen tube length was greatest at 25°C (518.90 μm) after 6 hours. It can be concluded that green ash pollen has satisfactory germination in ecological conditions in Croatia and that the optimum temperature for pollen germination is higher than 20°C.  相似文献

Summary Second generation aposporous gametophytes were obtained from sporophytes derived from first generation aposporous gametophytes, which in turn came from the mature fronds grown from spores in the laboratory. Murashige and Skoog modified medium in 1% agar supplemented with sugar alcohols (sorbitol, mannitol), auxins (NAA, 2,4-D) and cytokinin (BA) promoted a higher percentage of aposporous development from mature fronds ofPyrrosia piloselloides derived from aseptically cultured spores as compared with those obtained from plants in the field. 研究北京城区气传花粉种类、数量及季节消长规律,为防治花粉症及建设合理城市绿地提供有效资料.应用Burkard采样器于2010年12月31日至2011年12月31日对北京城区气传花粉浓度进行监测,并对花粉浓度进行统计学分析.研究结果显示,2011年北京城区的花粉季节从3月20日起始,至10月18日截止,持续213d,占全年天数的58%;全年花粉含量月分布呈现两个高峰,第1个高峰为3-4月,主要花粉为木犀科、杨属、柳属等树木花粉,占全年花粉总量的30%;第2个高峰为8-9月,主要花粉为菊科、藜科及苋科等莠草花粉,占全年花粉总量的50%;2011年度北京城区最具代表性的气传花粉来自于菊科,比重占了收集到气传花粉的35%.研究结果还表明,秋季的气传花粉致敏性强,所以北京花粉症的高发季节主要集中在秋季,以8-9月为最高,其中有95%的病人在此期间出现花粉症症状.花粉浓度及飘散规律受当地植被状况及气候等多种因素影响,因此,北京城区空气中气传花粉飘散种类、数量及季节分布规律的调查结果,可以为本地区花粉症防治及绿化品种的选择提供可靠依据.  相似文献

Co‐flowering plants may commonly experience interspecific pollination. It remains unknown, however, whether interspecific pollination is a largely stochastic process or consistent enough over years to exert selection for traits that can reduce interspecific pollination or ameliorate its deleterious effects on reproduction. To assess the likelihood of this precondition being met, stigmatic pollen loads on 17–34 insect‐pollinated plant species over three consecutive years were scored in a subalpine meadow in southwestern China. Plant species varied significantly in the amount and proportion of heterospecific pollen (HP) on stigmas. Both the number of HP species and the proportion of the pollen load that was HP for each recipient species correlated positively between years (reflected in pairwise correlations for all year‐by‐year combinations). Although inter‐annual variation was smaller for conspecific pollen (CP) than for HP loads, species tended to experience either consistently high or consistently low HP proportions across years. We found that species with higher stigmatic HP proportions generally experienced lower proportional variation in stigmatic HP, an unexpected result if high HP loads are the result of rare stochastic events. The novel finding of between‐year consistency in stigmatic loads of heterospecific pollen suggests that adaption to stigmatic loads of HP is possible, and two divergent strategies may have evolved: HP avoidance and HP tolerance. The observation of temporally consistent differences among species in levels of HP supports the idea that natural selection may be operating either to increase tolerance or to minimize arrival of heterospecific pollen on stigmas in co‐flowering plants. Such adaptations may be important for the maintenance of high levels of local plant diversity in biodiversity hotspots such as our study area.  相似文献

Polygala vayredae is a narrow endemic species from the oriental pre-Pyrenees. Despite its conservation status and rarity, no information is available on its reproductive biology. As the flower is the structure directly involved in pollinator attraction, its morphological and functional traits have major effects on the reproductive success of the plant. In this work, the flower biology and breeding system of P. vayredae were studied to evaluate how they affect the reproductive outcome in natural populations. Flower morphology, flower rewards, and male and female functioning throughout the lifespan of the flower were assessed. Pollination experiments, involving pollinator exclusion and pollen from different sources, were conducted, and the pollen ovule index was determined. Female fitness and the occurrence of pollen limitation were assessed in three natural populations over 2 years by observing the presence of pollen on the stigma, pollen tube development, and fruit production. Polygala vayredae flowers are elaborate and long-lived with nectar rewards. The floral traits are well adapted to xenogamy and entomophily, which are in accordance with the observed breeding system and auto-incompatibility system. No mechanism of reproductive assurance was observed and P. vayredae strictly depends on pollinators to set fruit. Low fruit production was observed in the studied populations, which was largely the result of scarce, unreliable, and/or inefficient pollinators and poor pollen quality. In addition, available resources may be a limiting factor. The reproductive strategy of P. vayredae prevents inbreeding depression by a self-incompatibility system, which in years of scarce pollinators is overcome by the plant habit.  © 2008 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2008, 157 , 67–81.  相似文献

Rhizomes of juvenile sporophytes of Blechnum spicant L. and Pteris ensiformis L. cultured on MS medium with N6-benzyladenine alone (0.44–4.4 M) or in combination with naphthaleneacetic acid (0.053–0.53 M), respectively, gave rise to several proliferation centres located at the epidermal and inner parenchyma of this organ after one month in culture. Subculture of these rhizomes for one month in growth regulator-free medium allowed organization of internal proliferation centres, and regeneration of a large number of sporophytes. Subculture in the above-mentioned proliferation medium, induced phase change and development of aposporous gametophytes from surface-localized proliferation centres. Addition of naphthaleneacetic acid to the culture medium promoted proliferation of green globular bodies (GGB) in B. spicant and both rhizogenesis and callogenesis processes in P. ensiformis. 贝加尔钻探计划(BDP)中的96-1井位于贝加尔湖中央的科学湖脊,1996年冬从位于332m水深以下的钻井采样,钻孔从湖底向下深2000m,根据古地磁资料,钻孔年代推测为5.1Ma,Tsuga,Lepidobalanus,Ulmaceae,Tilia和Corylus发现于钻孔的下部约60m,因为这些化石花粉目前在贝加尔湖地区已经消失,说明该钻孔上部的气候比下部的冷,因此,第四纪的气候比晚第三纪的更为干冷。在亚北极的西伯利亚,冰期时期以草本植物花粉占统治地位,花粉浓度较低,而在间冰期时期以木本花粉为主,花粉浓度较高,在间冰期时期硅藻及有机物总量增加,潮湿度(wet density)及氧同位素比率都降低,相反,在冰期时期硅藻含量及有机物总量降低,而潮湿度(wet dendity)和氧同位素比率都增加。  相似文献

摘要:对无融合生殖悬铃叶苎麻(2n=42)和有性生殖悬铃叶苎麻(2n=28)花粉母细胞(PMC)减数分裂行为进行比较研究,从而推断两者之间的进化关系;探索无融合生殖悬铃叶苎麻(B.tricuspis)发生的细胞遗传学基础,为无融合生殖发生的遗传学研究提供理论依据。在无融合生殖类型经诱导所产生的PMC的减数分裂过程中,发现有丰富的三价体形成,属典型的同源三倍体减数分裂行为特征;而有性生殖类型 PMC的减数分裂行为绝大多数正常,但也存在少量异常现象。其中有些异常行为,可能与未减数配子(2n)的形成紧密相关。因而推断,在有性生殖类型的生殖过程中,可能发生了未减数配子(2n)与减数配子(n)的融合,产生了同源三倍体合子。这应该是无融合生殖悬铃叶苎麻发生的重要的细胞遗传学基础。  相似文献

采用石蜡切片技术对龙须草(Eulaliopsisbinata(Rotz)C.E.Hubb)进行了系统的胚胎学研究,证明龙须草为禾本科植物中一种新的无融合生殖材料。龙须草无融合生殖方式为无孢子生殖,在胚珠发育早期,多个珠心细胞特化为无孢子生殖原始细胞,由原始细胞发育为单核胚囊,经两次有丝分裂形成4核胚囊,进一步分化形成两种类型的成熟胚囊:(1)具1个卵细胞,1个助细胞和2个极核,占观察总数的67.6%;(2)具1个卵细胞,2个助细胞和1个极核,占观察总数的32.4%。胚囊发育属大黍型。多个无孢子生殖原始细胞可以同时发育,最后形成2个或多个胚囊,其比例为17.7%。胚珠内没有有性胚囊的发育。胚的发生有两种类型:(1)早发生胚(74%),开花前1~2d,极核未分裂前卵细胞分裂形成胚;(2)迟发生胚(26%),开花后2~3d,极核分裂形成多个胚乳游离核后,卵细胞启动分裂形成胚。存在多胚现象,多胚来自不同胚囊内卵细胞的孤雌生殖,多胚发生率为13%。胚乳由极核不经受精自发分裂产生。  相似文献

Genetic analysis of apomixis in Citrus and Poncirus by molecular markers   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Propagation of citrus rootstocks depends upon the production of clonal plants from nucellar seedlings. This makes apomixis one of the host important traits in breeding programs for citrus rootstocks. The genetic control of apomixis was studied in a 50-tree progeny derived from the cross C. volkameriana×P. trifoliata using 69 molecular markers and bulked segregant analysis. The proportion of nucellar seedlings was estimated by isoenzymatic analysis of 25 seedlings per tree for 2 consecutive years. The type of embryony (polyembryonic versus monoembryonic seeds) was also determined for fruit-yielding trees. Separate genetic maps for each parental species were developed. The integration and comparison of these maps could be accomplished using common multiallelic segregant loci. Differences in gene synteny between the two species-specific genetic maps were shown. Important distortions in the segregation of markers at several genomic regions, some of them also involving differences in the C-methylation pattern, have been observed, especially for the pollen parent. Analysis of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) revealed the presence of six genomic positions (two in P. trifoliata and four in C. volkameriana) contributing individually up to 24% of the total variation for apomixis. Within the same species, QTLs with positive and negative allele effects were present, even in the same linkage group. One of the markers associated to apomixis (Apo2) is also associated to embryony type. Therefore, the genetic control of apomictic reproduction found in citrus (nucellar embryony) is quite complex compared to what has been reported for gametophytic apomixis. Molecular markers linked to QTLs governing apomixis will be useful to assist selection of future apomictic rootstocks for citrus varieties.
