Investigating how crop domestication and early farming mediated crop attributes, distributions, and interactions with antagonists may shed light on today's agricultural pest problems. Crop domestication generally involved artificial selection for traits desirable to early farmers, for example, in creased productivity or yield, and enhanced qualities, though invariably it altered the interactions between crops and insects, and expanded the geographical ranges of crops. Thus, some studies suggest that with crop domestication and spread, insect populations on wild crop ancestors gave rise to pestiferous insect populations on crops. Here, we addressed whether the emergence of corn leafhopper (Dalbulus ma id is) as an agricultural pest may be associated with domestication and early spread of maize (Zea mays mays). We used AFLP markers and mitochondrial COI sequences to assess population genetic structuring and haplotype relationships among corn leafhopper samples from maize and its wild relative Zea diploperennis from multiple locations in Mexico and Argentina. We uncovered seven corn leafhopper haplotypes contained within two haplogroups, one haplogroup containing haplotypes associated with maize and the other containing haplotypes associated with Z. diploperennis in a mountainous habitat. Within the first haplogroup, one haplotype was predominant across Mexican locations, and another across Argentinean locations;both were considered pestiferous. We suggested that the divergence times of the maize-associated haplogroup and of the "pestiferous" haplotypes are correlated with the chronology of maize spread following its domestication. Overall, our results support a hypothesis positing that maize domestication favored corn leafhopper genotypes preadapted for exploiting maize so that they became pestiferous, and that with the geographical expansi on of maize farming, corn leafhopper colonized Z. diploperennis, a host exclusive to secluded habitats that serves as a refuge for archaic corn leafhopper genotypic diversity. Broadly, our results help explain the extents to which crop domestication and early spread may have mediated the emergence of today's agricultural pests.  相似文献

Various populations have contributed to the present-day gene pool in oriental Mediterranean (Aegean Sea) and are well documented for ancient history. The primary objective of the study is to report on the analysis of the paternal component of the variation (Y chromosome haplotypes) in contemporary populations in Greece, Crete, Turkey and Cyprus. A total of 245 males who hailed from five different locations in Turkey, Greece, and the islands of Crete and Cyprus were analyzed for Y-chromosome-specific haplotypes based on p49a,f TaqI polymorphism. The main haplotype observed (21.2%) in the Greek–Turkish area is haplotype VII. The second haplotype in terms of frequency (13.5%) is haplotype VIII, which is characteristic of Semitic populations. The third (11.4%), fourth (6.9%) and fifth (5.7%) haplotypes in frequency are haplotype XI (a typical eastern European haplotype), haplotype V (the North African haplotype) and haplotype XV (the Western European haplotype), respectively. The distribution of haplotype VII is significantly heterogeneous genetically among the five localities studied, with a peak of frequency (43.8%) in Crete. It is proposed that haplotype VII reflects the ancient Minoan civilization. Haplotype VII frequencies actually known are mapped in countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea.  相似文献

Melanocortin 1-receptor (MC1R) is one of the major genes that controls chicken plumage colour. In this study, we investigated the sequence and haplotype distribution of the MC1R gene in native Japanese chickens, along with non-Japanese chicken breeds. In total, 732 and 155 chickens from 30 Japanese and eight non-Japanese breeds respectively were used. Three synonymous and 11 non-synonymous nucleotide substitutions were detected, resulting in 15 haplotypes (H0–H14). Of these, three were newly found haplotypes (H9, H13 and H14), of which one (H9) was composed of known substitutions C69T, T212C, G274A and G636A. The second one (H13) possessed newly found non-synonymous substitution C919G, apart from the known substitutions C69T, G178A, G274A, G636A and T637C. The third one (H14) comprised a newly discovered substitution C919G in addition to the known C69T, G274A and G409A substitutions. The homozygote for this new haplotype exhibited wt like plumage despite the presence of G274A. In addition to discovering a new nucleotide substitution (C919G) and three new haplotypes, we defined the plumage colour of the bird that was homozygous for the A644C substitution (H5 haplotype) as wheaten-like for the first time; although the substitution has been already reported, its effect was not revealed. Besides detecting the new plumage colour, we also confirmed that the A427G and G274A substitutions contribute in expressing brownish and black plumage colour respectively, as reported by the previous studies. Moreover, we confirmed that the buttercup allele does not express black plumage despite possessing a G274A substitution, under the suppression effect of A644C. In contrast, the birds homozygous for the birchen allele presented solid black plumage, which was contradictory to the previous reports. In conclusion, we revealed a large diversity in the MC1R gene of native Japanese chicken breeds, along with the discovery of a new non-synonymous nucleotide substitution (C919G) and three novel haplotypes (H9, H13 and H14).  相似文献

Phylogeographic analysis of Dasyscyphella longistipitata (Hyaloscyphaceae, Helotiales), which occurs on decaying Fagus crenata cupules, was carried out. The ITS-5.8S regions of the 120 isolates from 12 sites in areas across Japan revealed 38 haplotypes, the majority of which comprised the haplotype designated H12 (42.5%). H12 was found in isolates from all sites, followed by H28 and H10, which were detected in isolates from 10 and 7 sites, respectively. Thirty-two haplotypes were obtained in single isolates. In the haplotype network, H12 was the root, and it formed interior clades with H28 and H10. Genetic diversity was higher in northern and southern Japan, but genetic distance was not correlated with geographical distance, nor with the phylogenetic clades of F. crenata. Therefore, it was concluded that D. longistipitata forms a genetic continuum that covers all of the areas in which it is distributed in Japan, with variations being generated in local populations from the major haplotypes.  相似文献

Susceptibility/resistance to scrapie in sheep and goats is influenced by host prion protein gene ( PRNP ) genotype. In this study, we report the analysis of prion protein gene polymorphisms in 137 goats of two Moroccan populations: D'man and Chaouni. We found seven previously described amino acid polymorphisms at codons 37, 127, 137, 142, 154, 222 and 240, as well as three known silent mutations. In addition, we identified three new allelic variants: 101R and 139S in D'man goats and 145D in D'man and Chaouni individuals. The high frequency of the resistant allele 154H could offer genetic protection against the disease to the analysed animals. A total of 12 haplotypes and 28 genotypes were found, the distribution of which shows significant differences between both groups. Moreover, haplotype frequencies were compared with bibliographic data showing that the haplotype distribution of PRNP in Moroccan populations is genetically similar to Southern Italian and Greek goats.  相似文献

By means of population genetical models, we investigate the competition between sex-specific segregation distorters. Although the models are quite general, they are motivated by a specific example, the t complex of the house mouse. Some variants at this gene complex, the t haplotypes, distort Mendelian segregation in heterozygous males in their favor. The selective advantage at the gamete level is counterbalanced by strong negative fitness effects at the individual level (male sterility or even lethality in both sexes). A plethora of different t haplotypes has been found, both in the field and in the lab. Up to now, however, models have focused on the equilibrium frequency of a single t haplotype. In contrast, we explicitly model the competition between several t haplotypes. A deterministic model for a large, well-mixed population predicts a surprisingly high degree of polymorphism. Haplotypes with seemingly inferior fitness characteristics may easily coexist with “superior” haplotypes. For instance, a lethal haplotype with a low segregation ratio may stably coexist with a sterile haplotype with a high segregation ratio. Stable coexistence is even possible for haplotypes with a segregation disadvantage. A simple stochastic model shows that the same principles apply in the context of a structured metapopulation. Although counterintuitive at first sight, all our results can be explained by the fact that segregation distorters have an inherent advantage when they are rare. We conclude that fitness comparisons are not sufficient to predict the outcome of competition when selective forces are acting at different levels.  相似文献

采用PCR-RFLP技术,通过观察由12个单核苷酸多态位点(SNPs)组成的Y染色体单倍型及由9个多态位点组成的线粒体DNA单倍型在贵州瑶族中的分布,分析贵州瑶族父系及母系遗传结构,探讨其起源及迁徙。结果显示,97份男性样本分别属于H7、H8、H9、H11 4种Y-DNA单倍型,苗瑶语系特异Y-DNA单倍型H7的平均频率为92.4%;通过对线粒体DNA基因分型,得到8种单倍型,可归入B4、B5、D4、D5和N*单倍型类群中,CoⅡ/tRNALys区域间的9bp缺失平均频率为58.2%。结果提示贵州瑶族父系遗传结构单一,具有典型的苗瑶族群特征,又存在与其他族群的融合。母系遗传结构相对复杂,9 bp缺失是贵州瑶族的母系遗传结构特征。   相似文献

Managing and controlling the spread of diseases in wild animal populations is challenging, especially for social and mobile species. Effective management benefits from information about disease susceptibility, allowing limited resources to be focused on areas or populations with a higher risk of infection. Chronic wasting disease (CWD), a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy that affects cervids, was detected in Colorado in the late 1960s. CWD was detected in Illinois and Wisconsin in 2002 and has since spread through many counties. Specific nucleotide variations in the prion protein gene (PRNP) sequence have been associated with reduced susceptibility to CWD in white-tailed deer. Though genetic resistance is incomplete, the frequency of deer possessing these mutations in a population is an important factor in disease spread (i.e. herd immunity). In this study we sequenced 625 bp of the PRNP gene from a sampling of 2433 deer from Illinois and Wisconsin. In north-central Illinois where CWD was first detected, counties had a low frequency of protective haplotypes (frequency <0.20); whereas in northwestern Illinois counties, where CWD cases have only more recently been detected, the frequency of protective haplotypes (frequency >0.30) was much higher (p < 0.05). Protective haplotype frequencies varied significantly among infected and uninfected geographic areas. The frequency of protective PRNP haplotypes may contribute to population level susceptibility and may shape the way CWD has spread through Illinois. Analysis of PRNP haplotype distribution could be a useful tool to assess CWD risk and allocate resources to contain and reduce the spread of infection.  相似文献

Human HERC1 is one of six HERC proteins and may play an important role in intracellular membrane trafficking. The human HERC1 gene is suggested to have been affected by local positive selection. To assess the global frequency distributions of coding and non‐coding single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the HERC1 gene, we developed a new simultaneous genotyping method for four SNPs, and applied this method to investigate 1213 individuals from 12 global populations. The results confirmed remarked differences in the allele and haplotype frequencies between East Asian and non‐East Asian populations. One of the three common haplotypes observed was found to be characteristic of East Asians, who showed a relatively uniform distribution of haplotypes. Information on haplotypes would be useful for testing the function of polymorphisms in the HERC1 gene. Although host radiation allows a parasite to expand its ecological niche, traits governing the infection of multiple host types can decrease fitness in the original or alternate host environments. Reasons for this reduction in fitness include slower replication due to added genetic material or modifications, fitness trade-offs across host environments, and weaker selection resulting from simultaneous adaptation to multiple habitats. We examined the consequences of host radiation using vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) and mammalian host cells in tissue culture. Replicate populations of VSV were allowed to evolve for 100 generations on the original host (BHK cells), on either of two novel hosts (HeLa and MDCK cells), or in environments where the availability of novel hosts fluctuated in a predictable or random way. As expected, each experimental population showed a substantial fitness gain in its own environment, but those evolved on new hosts (constant or fluctuating) suffered reduced competitiveness on the original host. However, whereas evolution on one novel host negatively correlated with performance on the unselected novel host, adaptation in fluctuating environments led to fitness improvements in both novel habitats.  相似文献

We analyzed flavin-containing monooxygenase 3 (FMO3) polymorphisms, haplotype structure, and linkage disequilibrium (LD) in 256 Han Chinese and 50 African-American individuals to compare their haplotype frequencies and LD with other world populations. For the Han Chinese, genotyping of three haplotype tag single nucleotide polymorphisms (E158K, V257M, and E308G) was performed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-restriction fragment length polymorphism. For the African-Americans, genotyping of all coding exons was performed by modified PCR-single strand conformational polymorphism. Haplotype frequencies, LD, and evolutionary rates were inferred and estimated computationally. There were significant differences in haplotype frequency distribution and LD pattern among Han Chinese, African-Americans, and other world populations. Four major haplotypes of Han Chinese were EVE, KVE, EME, and EVG. Two major haplotypes of African-Americans were EVE and KVE. We found that sites 158 and 257 are in significant LD in both populations. This is the first report comparing FMO haplotypes and LD of Han Chinese with African-Americans. The data presented here justify further pharmacogenetic studies for potentially optimizing recommended drug dosages and evaluating relationships with disease processes.  相似文献

Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is an important pathogen of numerous crops in the North Central region of the United States. The objective of this study was to examine the genetic diversity of 145 isolates of the pathogen from multiple hosts in the region. Mycelial compatibility groups (MCG) and microsatellite haplotypes were determined and analyzed for standard estimates of population genetic diversity and the importance of host and distance for genetic variation was examined. MCG tests indicated there were 49 different MCGs in the population and 52 unique microsatellite haplotypes were identified. There was an association between MCG and haplotype such that isolates belonging to the same MCG either shared identical haplotypes or differed at no more than 2 of the 12 polymorphic loci. For the majority of isolates, there was a one-to-one correspondence between MCG and haplotype. Eleven MCGs shared haplotypes. A single haplotype was found to be prevalent throughout the region. The majority of genetic variation in the isolate collection was found within rather than among host crops, suggesting little genetic divergence of S. sclerotiorum among hosts. There was only weak evidence of isolation by distance. Pairwise population comparisons among isolates from canola, dry bean, soybean and sunflower suggested that gene flow between host-populations is more common for some crops than others. Analysis of linkage disequilibrium in the isolates from the four major crops indicated primarily clonal reproduction, but also evidence of genetic recombination for isolates from canola and sunflower. Accordingly, genetic diversity was highest for populations from canola and sunflower. Distribution of microsatellite haplotypes across the study region strongly suggest that specific haplotypes of S. sclerotiorum are often found on multiple crops, movement of individual haplotypes among crops is common and host identity is not a barrier to gene flow for S. sclerotiorum in the north central United States.  相似文献

为研究内着丝粒蛋白(Inner centromere protein, INCENP)基因启动子区单核苷酸多态性(SNPs)与精液品质的相关性,本文利用聚合酶链反应-限制性片段长度多态性(PCR-RFLP)方法检测了250头中国荷斯坦公牛INCENP基因的基因型。在INCENP基因启动子区鉴定出两个SNPs (g.-556 G>T,rs 136823901和g.-692 C>T,rs 211010999),发现了3种单倍型(CG、TT、TG)。分析两个SNP位点的基因型频率和等位基因频率,各SNP及单倍型组合与中国荷斯坦公牛精液品质的相关性,结果表明SNP位点g.-556 G>T GT基因型个体的鲜精活力显著高于GG基因型个体(P<0.05),单倍型组合H1H1(CCGG)、H1H3(CTGT)、H2H3(TTGT)和H3H3(TTTT)个体的鲜精活力和冻精解冻后活力均显著高于H1H2个体(P<0.05)。为进一步研究g.-556 G>T和g.-692 C>T影响精液品质的可能机理,本文将3种单倍型质粒分别转染小鼠睾丸间质细胞(MLTC-1),结果显示含TG单倍型的载体荧光素酶活性最高。由此推测,g.-556 G>T和g.-692 C>T为启动子区功能性突变位点,可通过调节启动子活性来调控INCENP基因表达,进而影响精液品质。  相似文献

Though several genes governing various major traits have been reported in rice, their superior haplotype combinations for developing ideal variety remains elusive. In this study, haplotype analysis of 120 previously functionally characterized genes, influencing grain yield (87 genes) and grain quality (33 genes) revealed significant variations in the 3K rice genome (RG) panel. For selected genes, meta‐expression analysis using already available datasets along with co‐expression network provided insights at systems level. Also, we conducted candidate gene based association study for the 120 genes and identified 21 strongly associated genes governing 10‐grain yield and quality traits. We report superior haplotypes upon phenotyping the subset of 3K RG panel, SD1‐H8 with haplotype frequency (HF) of 30.13% in 3K RG panel, MOC1‐H9 (HF: 23.08%), IPA1‐H14 (HF: 6.64%), DEP3‐H2 (HF: 5.59%), DEP1‐H2 (HF: 37.53%), SP1‐H3 (HF: 5.05%), LAX1‐H5 (HF: 1.56%), LP‐H13 (3.64%), OSH1‐H4 (5.52%), PHD1‐H14 (HF: 15.21%), AGO7‐H15 (HF: 3.33%), ROC5‐H2 (31.42%), RSR1‐H8 (HF: 4.20%) and OsNAS3‐H2 (HF: 1.00%). For heading date, Ghd7‐H8 (HF: 3.08%), TOB1‐H10 (HF: 4.60%) flowered early, Ghd7‐H14 (HF: 42.60%), TRX1‐H9 (HF: 27.97%), OsVIL3‐H14 (HF: 1.72%) for medium duration flowering, while Ghd7‐H6 (HF: 1.65%), SNB‐H9 (HF: 9.35%) were late flowering. GS5‐H4 (HF: 65.84%) attributed slender, GS5‐H5 (HF: 29.00%), GW2‐H2 (HF: 4.13%) were medium slender and GS5‐H9 (HF: 2.15%) for bold grains. Furthermore, haplotype analysis explained possible genetic basis for superiority of selected mega‐varieties. Overall, this study suggests the possibility for developing next‐generation tailor‐made rice with superior haplotype combinations of target genes suiting future food and nutritional demands via haplotype‐based breeding.  相似文献

Climate change is predicted to affect host–parasite interactions, and for some hosts, parasite infection is expected to increase with rising temperatures. Global population declines of important pollinators already have been attributed to climate change and parasitism. However, the role of climate in driving parasite infection and the genetic basis for pollinator hosts to respond often remain obscure. Based on decade-long field data, we investigated the association between climate and Nosema bombi (Microsporidia) infection of buffed-tailed bumblebees (Bombus terrestris), and whether host genotypes play a role. For this, we genotyped 876 wild bumblebee queens and screened for N. bombi infection of those queens between 2000 and 2010. We recorded seven climate parameters during those 11 years and tested for correlations between climate and infection prevalence. Here we show that climatic factors drive N. bombi infection and that the impact of climate depends on mitochondrial DNA cytochrome oxidase I (COI) haplotypes of the host. Infection prevalence was correlated with climatic variables during the time when queens emerge from hibernation. Remarkably, COI haplotypes best predict this association between climatic factors and infection. In particular, two host haplotypes (“A” and “B”) displayed phenotypic plasticity in response to climatic variation: Temperature was positively correlated with infection of host haplotype B, but not haplotype A. The likelihood of infection of haplotype A was associated with moisture, conferring greater resistance to parasite infection during wetter years. In contrast, infection of haplotype B was unrelated to moisture. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that identifies specific host genotypes that confer differential parasite resistance under variable climatic conditions. Our results underscore the importance of mitochondrial haplotypes to ward off parasites in a changing climate. More broadly, this also suggests that COI may play a pertinent role in climate change adaptations of insect pollinators.  相似文献

We examined the association between obesity and 13 angiotensin‐converting enzyme (ACE) gene polymorphisms, including the presence (I) or absence (D) of an Alu element in intron 16 (I/D polymorphism), and performed haplotype analysis using data collected from participants of a community survey of hypertension among blacks living in Ibadan, Nigeria; Spanish Town, Jamaica; and Chicago, IL. Transmission distortion of ACE gene polymorphisms and haplotypes from heterozygous parents to affected offspring was examined in each study population. To estimate haplotypes, polymorphisms were divided into three groups based on their position on the ACE gene. No ACE gene polymorphism was consistently overtransmitted from parents to obese offspring among the three populations. However, the haplotype ACE1‐ACE5 TACAT, located in the promoter region, was significantly overtransmitted from parents to obese offspring in both the U.S. and Nigerian populations. No haplotype was significantly overtransmitted from parents to obese offspring among the Jamaicans. In conclusion, we noted the overtransmission of a particular ACE gene promoter region haplotype from parents to obese offspring in two separate black populations. These data suggest that ACE gene polymorphisms may influence the development of weight gain.  相似文献

为了探索草果(Amomum tsaoko)的栽培地理起源,该文检测了草果、拟草果(A. paratsaoko)的cpDNA序列变化,并获取了单倍型多态性信息。结果表明:(1)20个草果居群272个植株、5个拟草果居群62个植株共检测到7种单倍型。其中,草果有3种单倍型(H1、H3、H6),拟草果有6种单倍型(H1、H2、H3、H4、H5、H7)。H1和H3为共享单倍型,H6为草果私有单倍型,H2、H4、H5、H7为拟草果私有单倍型。H1为普通单倍型,H2为祖先单倍型。(2)草果居群遗传多样性远小于拟草果居群,遗传变异主要来源于居群内,拟草果居群主要来源于居群间。麻栗坡铁厂(TC)、屏边玉屏(YP)居群的遗传多样性、单倍型多样性高于其他18个草果居群。(3)进一步分析表明,包含屏边、马关、西畴、麻栗坡的云南东南部前端地域和邻接的广西那坡可能共同构成草果栽培驯化起源中心,以麻栗坡为核心区域,向周边的西畴、马关、屏边、那坡扩张。因此,结果显示应对TC、YP、那坡下华(XH)居群加以保护。该研究结果为草果种质资源保护、利用提供了遗传学信息。  相似文献

Theoretical models of evolution in a temporally variable environment predict that genotypes with low variance in fitness across generations will be favored. When host use varies temporally and fitness trade-offs exist among hosts, such that an increase in performance on one host results in a correlated decrease on the other, selection for low variance in fitness across generations will favor genotypes which are generalists. Before predictions such as this can be extended to natural herbivore populations, however, it is necessary to understand the extent to which performance trade-offs limit simultaneous adaptation to multiple hosts. The experiment reported here compares two populations of the common milkweed bug, Lygaeus kalmii (Hemiptera: Lygaeidae) which differ in patterns of host usage. One population is largely restricted to milkweed (Asclepias spp.) when milkweed seeds are available, but becomes a scavenger on a large assortment of available seeds when milkweed seeds are unavailable. The second population is restricted largely to dandelion (Taraxacum officinale), without access to milkweed. We examine these populations to test for host-associated genetic trade-offs between specialization on dandelion (Taraxacum) and two species of milkweed, Asclepias fascicularis, which is low in cardiac glycoside content, and A. speciosa, which is high in cardiac glycoside content. Despite the difference in patterns of host use of the two L. kalmii populations, the populations did not differ in their performance on any of the host plants. Within each population, bugs performed nearly as well on each host, except that bugs had significantly lower survivorship on dandelion than on either milkweed species. Trade-offs in performance among hosts were not present in either population: estimated genetic correlations across hosts were strongly positive. The inability of this study to detect host-associated fitness trade-offs is consistent with most published data on this topic.  相似文献

Bahia state hosts over 90% of hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata) nests registered in the main nesting sites monitored by Projeto Tamar-IBAMA in Brazil. The genetic diversity of this hawksbill population (n=119) was assayed through the analyses of 752 bp of the mitochondrial DNA control region in nesting females. Seven distinct haplotypes, defined by 125 polymorphic sites, were found. Most of the individuals (n=67) display four typical hawksbill haplotypes, 50 individuals display two haplotypes characteristic of the loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) and two individuals had a haplotype affiliated with the olive ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea). These results demonstrate hybridization between the hawksbills and two species that nest along the Bahia coast. Of special interest is the high occurrence of loggerhead × hawksbill hybrids (42%), which display loggerhead mtDNA haplotypes but are characterized morphologically as hawksbills. The true hawksbill haplotypes present only three variable sites and low genetic diversity values (h=0.358±0.069; π=0.0005±0.0001). The occurrence of several nesting individuals with identical mtDNA from another species may also suggest a long history of introgression between species producing likely F2 or further generation hybrids. Marine turtle hybrids have been previously reported, but the high frequency observed in Bahia is unprecedented. Such introgression may influence evolutionary pathways for all three species, or may introduce novel morphotypes that develop apart from the parental species. The presence of a unique hybrid swarm has profound conservation implications and will significantly influence the development and implementation of appropriate management strategies for these species.  相似文献

The exceptional diversity of insects is often attributed to the effects of specialized relationships between insects and their hosts. Parasite-host interactions are influenced by current natural selection and dispersal, in addition to historical effects that may include past selection, vicariance, and random genetic drift. Both current and historical events can lead to reduced fitness on some hosts. If trade-offs in fitness on alternate hosts are common, adaptation to one host can prevent adaptation to another, giving rise to genetic differentiation among host-associated lineages. Previous studies of Diaeretiella rapae (Hymenoptera: Aphidiidae), a parasitoid of aphids, have revealed additive genetic differences in performance between populations that parasitize different aphid host species. To determine whether D. rapae populations collected from different aphid hosts have diverged into genetically independent lineages, we constructed a haplotype network based on sequence variation in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). We used single strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP) analysis to examine 2041 base pairs of mtDNA and to identify nucleotide sequences of 42 unique SSCP haplotypes. We found no association between mtDNA haplotypes and host species in either the ancestral range (Europe, Mediterranean region, Middle East, Asia) or part of the introduced range (western North America). Haplotypes likely to be ancestral were geographically widespread and found on both hosts, suggesting that the ability to use both hosts evolved prior to the diversification of the mtDNA. Ongoing gene flow appears to prevent the formation of host races.  相似文献
