The application of nitrogenous fertilizer in March to a whiteclover (cv. Blanca) and perennial ryegrass (cv. S23) sward resultedin a rapid suppression of the clover, relative to clover ina treatment given no added nitrogen. Thereafter, the cloverin both treatments grew more rapidly than the grass and itsproportion of the total leaf area in the mixture increased,as the leaf area index rose to 8. After a second applicationof N in early July, clover was not suppressed to the same extentas in the first growth period. Overall, the photosynthetic capacities of newly expanded cloverlaminae were similar in the two treatments. Clover laminae hadhigher photosynthetic capacities than grass, even in the grass-dominant+ N treatment. Lamina area, petiole length, and the number of live leaves perstolon were similar in the two treatments, indicating that thedifferences in total leaf area were due to the presence of fewerstolon growing points in the + N treatment. Fully light-intercepting simulated swards of S24 perennial ryegrasswere exposed to contrasting environmental conditions in a growthroom for 4 days. Half experienced 20 h days of 120 Wm2(400700. nm) and 5 °C, and came to have a WSC (watersoluble carbohydrate) content of 235 mg g1 and half 4h days of 20 Wm2 and 25 °C leading to a WSC of 25mg g1. Their rates of CO2 efflux were monitored at anumber of temperatures during an 8 h dark period; half experiencedincreasing (530 °C) and half decreasing (305°C) temperatures. The high WSC swards hadrespiration rates of 3.7 mg CO2 g1 (d. wt) h1at 15 °C, and the low swards 0.8 mg CO2 g1h1. The order in which the temperatures were experiencedwas immaterial. Even the low WSC swards showedno evidence of a respiratory decline during the dark periodthat could be attributed to substrate shortage. The relationshipbetween temperature and CO2 efflux was best represented by logisticcurves. Even so, a Q10 of 2 fitted the data reasonably well,at least up to 20 °C, and has practical advantages wheninterpolating estimated between measured values of respirationin the construction of a carbon balance sheet. The Growth and Development of Simulated Swards of Perennial Ryegrass: II. Carbon Assimilation and Respiration in a Seedling Sward 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The rates of net photosynthesis (Pn,c) in the light (85 W m2visible), and respiration in the dark, of a simulated swardof S24 ryegrass were measured for 12 weeks during its developmentfrom a collection of two-leaved seedlings to a closed canopywith an LAI of 23 (15 of green leaf laminae). By the sixth week light interception was complete (LAI = 10.6)and Pn,c had risen to 24 mg CO2 dm2 h1, similarto rates recorded in the field. Photosynthetic functions (lightresponse curves) showed that the swards remained unsaturatedup to energy receipts of almost 400 W m2, whereas singleleaves were light saturated at about 130 W m2. Earlyin the development of the sward LAI had a greater effect onPn,c than radiation receipt, later the reverse was true. Thegrowth habit of the sward ranged from moderately erect (an Svalue of 0.72) to moderately prostrate (S = 0.37),while the ability of the two youngest fully expanded leaveson a tiller to make use of light in photosynthesis declinedas the sward increased in density from values of A max of 20to 5 mg CO2 dm2 h1. By varying the values of Sand A max fed into a model of canopy photosynthesis, withinthe above limits, it was demonstrated that, in practice, A maxis a greater determinant of canopy photosynthesis than S, exceptat low LAI where a prostrate sward has a marked advantage overan erect one. The rate of dark respiration rose as the swards increased inweight, although not in proportion to it, until the ninth weekwhen a ceiling yield of live plant tissue was reached. Respiratorylosses from the sward came almost equally from a component associatedwith maintenance (Rm) and one associated with growth (Rg). Therate of Rm was estimated to be about 0.014 g day1 pergram of plant tissue, and that of Ra about 0.25 g per gram ofnew tissue producedboth close to theoretical values.The measured dry matter production curve of the swards was comparedwith that estimated from the gas analysis data. Similarly therates of gross photosynthesis estimated from the gas analysisdata were compared with the predictions of the mathematicalmodel. In both cases the fit was reasonably good. A balancesheet was drawn up; of every 100 units of carbon fixed, 45 werelost in respiration and 16 as dead leaf, 5 ended up in the rootand 6 in the stubble; only 28 remained as harvestable live leaftissue. 相似文献

Effect of Temperature and Nitrogen Supply on the Growth of Perennial Ryegrass and White Clover. 2. A Comparison of Monocultures and Mixed Swards 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
White clover (Trifolium repens L.) and Perennial ryegrass (Loliumperenne L.) plants were grown, in Perlite, in simulated swardsas either monocultures or mixtures of equal plant numbers. Theywere supplied with a nutrient solution either high (220 µgg1) or low (40 µg g1) in 15N-labelled nitrateand grown to ceiling yield at either high (20°C day/15°Cnight) or low (10°C day/8°C night) temperature. Temperature had little effect on the maximum rates of grosscanopy photosynthesis which were similar in High-N grass andHigh-N and Low-N clover monocultures. However these maxima werereached more slowly in clover than grass, and more slowly atlow rather than high temperature. Nitrogen supply increasedphotosynthesis in grass but not in clover. Clover had higherN contents than grass in all four treatments, although in anygiven treatment its N content was lower, and contribution ofN2-fixation relative to nitrate uptake higher, in mixture thanin monoculture. Conversely, grass had higher N contents in mixturethan monoculture, because more nitrate was available per plantand not because of transfer of biologically fixed N from clover. Under Low-N, clover outyielded grass in mixture, particularlyat high temperature. The grass plants in the Low-N mixtureshad higher N contents and higher SLA, LAR and shoot: root ratiosthan those in monoculture. It is proposed that competition forlight is the cause of the low relative yield and negative aggressivityof grass in these swards. Under High-N, grass outyielded cloverin monoculture and mixture, at both temperatures but particularlyat low temperature when grass had a high aggressivity. Nitrogenand yield component analyses shed no light on clover's apparentlylow competitive ability and evidence is drawn from the previouspaper to demonstrate that grass grew faster than clover onlyas spaced individuals during non-com petitive growth. The relativemerits of measures of competitive ability based on final harvestdata and physiological data taken over a growth period are discussed. 采用菌剂接种及盆栽生物实验,研究了干旱缺水条件下放线菌对黑麦草生长和抗氧化特性的影响。结果显示:(1)干旱胁迫下,土壤中接种放线菌显著促进黑麦草的生长,其中根分蘖及根部生物量分别显著增加35.00%和37.47%;(2)接种放线菌后,黑麦草叶片的叶绿素总量和类胡萝卜素含量分别显著增加了12.02%和10.38%;(3)加菌后3种主要的抗氧化酶超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)、过氧化物酶(POD)和过氧化氢酶(CAT)较不加菌对照均增加,其增率分别为12.72%、2.38%和24.83%,其中SOD和CAT的活性增加显著。研究表明,干旱胁迫下放线菌接种土壤后,提高了黑麦草叶绿素含量和类胡萝卜素含量,增强了黑麦草抗干旱胁迫的抗氧化酶活性,可显著促进黑麦草的生长,增加其生物量。 相似文献

Simulated mixed swards of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenneL. cv. S23) and white clover (Trifolium repens L. cv. S100)were grown from seed under a constant 10°C day/8°C nighttemperature regime and their growth, and carbon and nitrogeneconomies examined. The swards received a nutrient solution,every second day, which contained either high (220 µgg1) or low (40 µg g1) nitrate N. The High-N swards had rates of canopy photosynthesis and drymatter production (over the linear phase of growth) similarto those previously shown by mixed swards at high temperature.The Low-N swards grew more slowly; canopy photosynthesis, ata given LAI, was similar to that at High-N but lower LAI's weresustained. Clover increased its contribution to total carbonuptake and total dry weight throughout the period in the Low-Ntreatment and, despite the fact that grass took up most of theavailable nitrate, clover maintained a consistently higher Ncontent by virtue of N2-fixation. At High-N, grass dominated throughout the measurement period.Earlier, when plants grew as spaced individuals, clover grewless well than grass, but once the canopy was closed it hada similar relative growth rate and thus maintained a steadyproportion of total sward dry weight. It is proposed that earlyin the development of the crop, leaf area production is thelimiting factor for growth, and that in this respect cloveris adversely affected by low temperature relative to grass.Later, as the LAI of the crop builds up, and the canopy becomesfully light intercepting, net canopy photosynthesis plays amore dominant role and here the higher photosynthetic rate perunit leaf area of the clover is crucial. The results of a four-year investigation carried out in Central Italy on the occurrence of perennial ryegrass rusts from 1989—92 are reported. The crown rust (Puccinia coronata) was the most frequently recorded in the surveyed are while P. graminis was only occasionally detected. The causal agents were identified by the morphological criteria proposed by CUMMINS (1971).

The leaf growth, tiller production, light interception, anddry weight increase of a simulated sward of S24 perennial ryegrass(Lolium perenne) were followed during the development of thesward from a collection of two-leaved seedlings to a closedcanopy with an LAI of 23, of which 15 consisted of green leaflaminae. The dry weight of live shoots increased exponentiallyat first, but then entered a long linear phase of increase.This was equivalent to a crop growth rate of 200 Kg ha1day1 and a conversion efficiency of radiant energy (400700nm) of 7.2 per cent. Towards the end of the growth period therate of increase of live shoots declined rapidly to zero anda ceiling yield was reached equivalent to 10 metric tons ha1.Leaf growth continued at a high rate, but was equalled by therate of leaf death, so that the weight of live leaf tissue remainedconstant. By this time the swards had achieved a stable tillerpopulation (about 1 cm1), each tiller bore a constantnumber of live leaves (about three), and the length of eachnewly expanded leaf equalled the length of the old leaf it replaced(about 70 cm). The effects of Cd, in combination with salicylic acid (SA) and sodium nitroprusside (SNP), on ryegrass seedlings were studied. Exposure of plants to 0.1 mM CdCl2 for 2 weeks resulted in toxicity symptoms such as chlorosis and necrotic spots on leaves. The addition of 0.2 mM SA or 0.1 mM SNP slightly alleviated the toxic effects of Cd. After application of both SA and SNP, these symptoms significantly decreased. Treatment with Cd resulted in a decrease of dry weight of roots and shoots, chlorophyll content, net photosynthetic rate (P n), transpiration rate (T r), and the uptake and translocation of mineral elements. In Cd-treated plants, levels of lipoxygenase activity and malondialdehyde, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and proline contents significantly increased, whereas the activities of antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase, guaiacol peroxidase, catalase, and ascorbate peroxidase, decreased in both roots and shoots. The results indicated that Cd caused physiological stresses in ryegrass plants. The Cd-stressed plants exposed to SA or SNP, especially to SA + SNP, exhibited improved growth compared with Cd-stressed plants. Application of SA or SNP, especially the combination SA + SNP, considerably reduced root-to-shoot translocation of Cd and increased the activities of antioxidant enzymes in both roots and shoots of Cd-stressed plants. The interaction of SA and SNP increased chlorophyll content, P n and T r in leaves, and the uptake and translocation of mineral elements, and decreased lipid peroxidation and H2O2 and proline accumulation in roots and shoots. These results suggest that SA or SNP, and, in particular, their combination counteracted the negative effects of Cd on ryegrass plants. 相似文献

Mature second leaves of Lolium perenne L. cv. Vigor, were sampledin a spring and summer regrowth period. Effects of CO2enrichmentand increased air temperature on stomatal density, stomatalindex, guard cell length, epidermal cell density, epidermalcell length and mesophyll cell area were examined for differentpositions on the leaf and seasons of growth. Leaf stomatal density was smaller in spring but greater in summerin elevated CO2and higher in both seasons in elevated temperatureand in elevated CO2xtemperature relative to the respective controls.In spring, leaf stomatal index was reduced in elevated CO2butin summer it varied with position on the leaf. In elevated temperature,stomatal index in both seasons was lower at the tip/middle ofthe leaf but slightly higher at the base. In elevated CO2xtemperature,stomatal index varied with position on the leaf and betweenseasons. Leaf epidermal cell density was higher in all treatmentsrelative to controls except in elevated CO2(spring) and elevatedCO2xtemperature (summer), it was reduced at the leaf base. Inall treatments, stomatal density and epidermal cell densitydeclined from leaf tip to base, whilst guard cell length showedan inverse relationship, increasing towards the base. Leaf epidermalcell length and mesophyll cell area increased in elevated CO2inspring and decreased in summer. In elevated CO2xtemperatureleaf epidermal cell length remained unaltered in spring comparedto the control but decreased in summer. Stomatal conductancewas lower in all treatments except in summer in elevated CO2itwas higher than in the ambient CO2. These contrasting responses in anatomy to elevated CO2and temperatureprovide information that might account for differences in seasonalleaf area development observed in L. perenne under the sameconditions. Winter survival of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) depends mainly on the plant resistance to low freezing temperature and to snow mould fungi (Microdochium nivale). Field evaluation of these plant characters gave irreproducible results. A comparison of field trials with laboratory tests pointed to the close correlation between the yield level of examined varieties and strains and their resistance to Microdochium nivale and frost. Effect of Elevated CO2 on the Photosynthesis, Respiration and Growth of Perennial Ryegrass 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Single, seed-grown plants of ryegrass (Lolium perenne L. cv.Melle) were grown for 49 d from the early seedling stage ingrowth cabinets at a day/night temperature of 20/15 C, witha 12 h photoperiod, and a CO2 concentration of either 340 or680µI 11 CO2. Following complete acclimation tothe environmental regimes, leaf and whole plant CO2 effluxesand influxes were measured using infra-red gas analysis techniques.Elevated CO2 increased rates of photosynthesis of young, fullyexpanded leaves by 3546% and of whole plants by morethan 50%. For both leaves and whole plants acclimation to 680µI1 CO2 reduced rates of photosynthesis in bothCO2 regimes, compared with plants acclimated to 340µll1. There was no significant effect of CO2 regime onrespiration rates of either leaves or whole plants, althoughleaves developed in elevated CO2 exhibited generally lower ratesthan those developed in 340µI I1 CO2. Initially the seedling plants in elevated CO2 grew faster thantheir counterparts in 340µI I1 CO2, but this effectquickly petered out and final plant weights differed by onlyc. 10%. Since the total area of expanded and unexpanded laminaewas unaffected by CO2 regime, specific leaf area was persistently1340% lower in elevated CO2 while, similarly, root/shootratio was also reduced throughout the experiment. Elevated CO2reduced tissue nitrogen contents of expanded leaves, but hadno effect on the nitrogen contents of unexpanded leaves, sheathsor roots. The lack of a pronounced effect of elevated CO2 on plant growthwas primarily due to the fact that CO2 concentration did notinfluence tiller (branch) numbers. In the absence of an effecton tiller numbers, any possible weight increment was restrictedto the c. 2.5 leaves of each tiller. The reason for the lackof an effect on tillering is not known. Seed-borne fungal symbionts (endophytes) provide many cool-season grass species with biological protection from biotic and abiotic stresses. The endophytes are asexual, whereas closely related sexual species of genus Epichloe (Clavicipitales) cause grass choke disease. Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) is a host of two endophyte taxa, LpTG-1 (L. perenne endophyte taxonomic grouping one = Acremonium lolii) and LpTG-2, as well as the choke pathogen, Epichloe typhina (represented by isolate E8). Relationships among these fungi and other Epichloe species were investigated by analysis of gene sequences, DNA polymorphisms and allozymes. The results indicate that LpTG-2 is a heteroploid derived from an interspecific hybrid. The LpTG-2 isolates had two copies each of nine out of ten genes analyzed (the exception being the rRNA gene locus), and the profiles for seven of these were composites of those from E. typhina E8 and A. lolii isolate Lp5. Molecular phylogenetic analysis grouped the two β-tubulin genes of LpTG-2 into separate clades. One (tub2-1) was related to that of E. typhina E8, and the other (tub2-2) to that of A. lolii. The mitochondrial DNA profile of LpTG-2 was similar to that of A. lolii, but its rRNA gene sequence grouped it with E. typhina E8. A proposed model for the evolution of LpTG-2 involves infection of a L. perenne-A. lolii symbiotum by E. typhina, followed by hybridization of the two fungi. Such interspecific hybridization may be a common and important mechanism for genetic variation in Epichloe endophytes. 相似文献

The rate of canopy photosynthesis, single leaf photosynthesis,leaf resistance to gaseous exchange, and leaf water potentialof simulated swards of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne cv.S24) in a controlled environment, were determined during a periodof increasing water stress and recovery from that stress. Canopyphotosynthesis did not decline immediately water was withheldbut continued at an undiminished rate for several days; thereafterit fell rapidly, particularly at first. As water stress increasedsuccessive relationships between canopy photosynthesis and irradiancebecame more curved, indicating that the effect of water stressincreased with increasing irradiance. After the swards werere-watered canopy photosynthesis rose, most rapidly during thefirst 24 h. In general, the pattern of change of leaf waterpotential was similar to that of canopy photosynthesis, althougha more detailed examination of this relationship showed it tobe hysteresial; in particular, the fall in leaf water potentialpreceded that of canopy photosynthesis. Single leaf photosynthesisappeared to be the main agent through which water stress influencedcanopy photosynthesis although in the more severely stressedswards (leaf water potentials of about15 bars) some leaftissue died and so limited the recovery of canopy photosynthesis.The leaf resistance to gaseous diffusion increased with increasingwater stress, as did the CO2 compensation point, thereby influencingsingle-leaf photosynthesis and through it canopy photosynthesis. 相似文献

摘 要: 以莱芜猪、3/4莱芜猪、1/2莱芜猪、1/4莱芜猪和大约克夏猪(共60头)为研究对象,在同样条件下饲养至90kg屠宰,研究比较不同比例莱芜猪血缘对肥育猪胴体品质和肉质特性的影响。结果表明:不同血缘结构的试验猪间在胴体重、胴体长、后腿比例和背膘厚方面存在显著的差异(P<0.05);眼肌面积和瘦肉率方面则存在极显著的差异(P<0.01),并且是随莱芜猪血缘含量的减少,其胴体长、后腿比例、眼肌面积和瘦肉率逐渐增高,而其背膘厚逐渐降低。在肉质特性方面,不同血缘结构的试验猪间肌肉的大理石纹、肉色、干物质和粗蛋白含量存在显著的差异(P<0.05);而肌肉失水率、滴水损失及肌内脂肪含量存在极显著的差异(P<0.01)。在同样体重下,莱芜猪及其杂交猪与大约克夏猪相比,其肌肉具有鲜红的肉色、良好的持水性能和较丰富的肌内脂肪。研究结果提示:为兼顾产肉性能与肉质特性而进行的优质肉猪生产,莱芜猪有其独特的利用价值,其适宜的血缘比例应控制在1/4左右。Abstract: Sixty pigs, including pure Laiwu Black (LL), pure Large Yorkshire (YY), 1/2 Laiwu (Y♂×L♀), 3/4 Laiwu (L♂×YL♀) and 1/4 Laiwu (Y♂×YL♀), were housed in groups with the same diet until 90kg for slaughter. The objectives were to investigate the effects of graded proportions of Laiwu Black genes on carcass and meat quality performance. Results indicated that different consanguinity had significant effect on carcass weight, carcass length (CL), ham percentage (HP) and backfat thickness (BT) (P<0.05), and had highly significant effect on eye muscle area (EMA) and lean percentage (LP) (P<0.01). Furthermore, CL, HP, EMA and LP tended to increased gradually, but BT tended to decreased gradually as Laiwu Black genes decreased. For meat quality properties, different consanguinity had significant effect on meat color, marbling score, dry matter and crude protein content of muscles (P<0.05), and had highly significant effect on water loss, drip loss and intramuscular fat content of muscles (P<0.01). Black and its crossbred pigs were bright red in meat color, high in water holding capacity and abundant in intramuscular fat. Results implied that to give attention to both quantity and quality, Laiwu Black surely has usable precious value in superior pig production. 测定139头杂交猪(大白猪和梅山猪)的14个肉质性状和8个胴体性状,用PCR-RFLP方法检测FUT1基因型。分析猪FUT1基因型间肉质和胴体性状差异,发现AA基因型猪3个部位肌肉pH值均比AG基因型的高,其中pH(LD)达到显著水平(P<0.05)。AA基因型猪肌肉系水力显著高于AG猪的系水力(91.02% VS 86.70%,P<0.05)。AA基因型猪的肉色值显著高于AG猪的(P<0.05)。AA基因型猪三个部位肌肉膘厚值均较低,其中最后肋骨膘厚和倒数三四肋骨膘厚分别比AG基因型猪的低4.26 mm和3.96 mm(P<0.05)。AA基因型猪瘦肉率比AG基因型猪的高3.31% (53.46% VS 50.15%,P<0.05)。以上结果表明FUT1基因的AA基因型对肉质和和胴体性状具有显著的正遗传效应,这对于在抗病育种中应用该基因十分有利。 相似文献

Loliun perenne L. (cv.S. 23) was grown on vermiculite in winterin a heated greenhouse for 8 weeks under factorial combinationsof two potassium regimes (nominally 6 parts/106 and 156 parts/106in Hewitt's solution) and three densities of artificially supplementedvisible radiation flux (36.1, 7.3, and 2.2 W m2). Growthand potassium uptake were studied through the calculation ofvarious growth functions from fitted curves. There was little effect of potassium treatment but the experimentalmaterial responded markedly to light. Leaf-area ratio in thethree treatments showed extreme plasticity in increasing from23 x 102 through 6 x 102 to 89 x102 m2 g1 as light intensity decreased. Correspondingdecreases in unit leaf rate, however, caused over-all reductionsin relative growth rate. Specific absorption rates for potassium (AK, dry-weight basis)were strongly reduced at the lower light intensities but alsodisplayed complex ontogenetic drifts. Values of the allometricconstant, k (the ratio of root and shoot relative growth rates),decreased from c. 0.7 at 36.1 W m2 through c. 0.3 at7.3 W m2 to a value not significantly different fromzero (P < 0.05) at 2.2 W m2. In material grown under the two higher light intensities a constantinverse relationship was found between the mass ratio of rootand shoot and the corresponding activity ratio. The resultsconform to this model: Mass ratio = 0.001+45.0 (1/activityratio) where activity ratio is expressed as specific absorptionrate for potassium (in µg g root1 h1)/unitshoot rate (rate of increase of whole-plant dry weight per unitshoot dry weight, in mg g shoot1 h1). The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of replacing dry ground corn with crude glycerol on intake, apparent digestibility, performance, and carcass characteristics of finishing beef bulls. A completely randomized block design experiment with 25 d for adaptation and 100 d for data collection was conducted, in which 3,640 Nellore bulls (367 ± 36.8 kg; 18 ± 3 mo) were blocked by body weight and assigned to 20 pens. Bulls were randomly assigned to one of four treatments: 0, 5, 10, and 15% (dry matter basis) of crude glycerol in the diet. Initially, 20 bulls were slaughtered to serve as a reference to estimate initial empty body weight, which allowed for carcass gain calculation. Bulls were weighed at the beginning, at two-thirds, and at the end of the experiment for performance calculations. Carcass measurements were obtained by ultrasound. Fecal output was estimated using indigestible neutral detergent fiber as an internal marker. Data were analyzed using the mixed procedures in SAS 9.2 (SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC). Intake of dry matter, organic matter, and neutral detergent fiber decreased linearly (P < 0.05) with crude glycerol inclusion. However, crude glycerol levels did not affect (P > 0.05) intakes of crude protein, non-fiber carbohydrates, and total digestible nutrients. Digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, neutral detergent fiber, and total digestible nutrients increased quadratically (P < 0.05) with the inclusion of crude glycerol in the diet. Crude glycerol inclusion did not change the intake of digestible dry matter, average daily gain, final body weight, carcass gain, carcass dressing, gain-to-feed ratio, Longissimus thoracis muscle area, and back and rump fat thicknesses (P > 0.05). These results suggest that crude glycerol may be included in finishing beef diets at levels up to 15% without impairing performance and carcass characteristics. 相似文献
