The abundance of hair-bait colonizing fungi was investigated on the beaches of Caracoles, Mocambo, and lcacos, located on the coasts of the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico and Pacific Ocean, respectively. On each beach a sample of sandy soil was collected. The samples were analyzed by two selective isolation methods for keratinophilic fungi resulting in a total of 544 occurrences. A total of 17 species was found, of which 4 were ascomycetes and 13 hyphomycetes.Gymnascella dankaliensis andAspergillus terreus were the most abundant.Arthroderma curreyi andChrysosporium tropicum were found in low percentages in this survey. From the three beaches sampled, Icacos beach, on the Pacific Ocean coast had the highest number of isolated species.  相似文献

Recent studies have reported high levels of fecal indicator enterococci in marine beach sand. This study aimed to determine the spatial and temporal variation of enterococcal abundance and to evaluate its relationships with microbial community parameters in Hawaii beach sand and water. Sampling at 23 beaches on the Island of Oahu detected higher levels of enterococci in beach foreshore sand than in beach water on a mass unit basis. Subsequent 8-week consecutive samplings at two selected beaches (Waialae and Kualoa) consistently detected significantly higher levels of enterococci in backshore sand than in foreshore/nearshore sand and beach water. Comparison between the abundance of enterococci and the microbial communities showed that enterococci correlated significantly with total Vibrio in all beach zones but less significantly with total bacterial density and Escherichia coli. Samples from the different zones of Waialae beach were sequenced by 16S rRNA gene pyrosequencing to determine the microbial community structure and diversity. The backshore sand had a significantly more diverse community and contained different major bacterial populations than the other beach zones, which corresponded to the spatial distribution pattern of enterococcal abundance. Taken together, multiple lines of evidence support the possibility of enterococci as autochthonous members of the microbial community in Hawaii beach sand.  相似文献

The community structure of fishes on a sandy beach with patch of Thalassia and coral reefs was studied at Punta Las Cabeceras, Cubagua Island, Venezuela. Diurnal monthly samples were obtained from March 1999 to February 2000. Numerical abundance of fish species was recorded to determine the specific diversity. A total of 1 268 individual from 38 species and 20 families were identified: Haemulidae, Scaridae and Gerreidae were the more abundant, with 7, 4 and 3 species, respectively. Nicholsina usta, Eucinostomus argenteus, Halichoeres bivittatus and Tylosurus crocodiles made up 74.38% of the abundance, and present in 50% of the samples. The number of species occasional visitors was 30 (78.94%), indicative of the mobilization from another areas. On a monthly basis, the species number varied between 2 and 12; diversity index between 0.98 and 2.93 bits ind(-1), equitability (J') from 0.44 to 0.98, both indices showing the same tendency. N. usta and E. argenteus had the highest biological index equivalent to 59.1 and 60.0%, respectably, of the maximum possible total and were dominants and characteristics fishes of the community.  相似文献

沙丘在广西北海大冠沙白骨壤红树林内的移动,破碎了原有的平滩,形成了埋没滩、过渡滩、侵蚀滩3种沙化滩涂生境。比较研究了不同滩涂生境间大型底栖动物群落的差异。结果表明:除藤壶外,研究地点共有大型底栖动物31种。平滩跟其它滩涂生境间的动物群落相似度都小于0.5,表明沙丘移动使原有底栖动物群落异质化。沙化不仅使原有底栖动物群落的种类、密度和生物量分别下降了35.1%,74.68%和89.76%,而且还降低  相似文献

Quantitative samples of benthos were taken on a stony beach in the maritime Antarctic (Admiralty Bay, King George Island, South Shetland Islands) during a complete annual cycle. The sampled habitat consisted of cobbles lying on sand and gravel in the fringe between the littoral and sublittoral zones; samples were always taken at low tide just below the water line. In this habitat, abundant macroalgal detritus was observed between stones. This stony beach appeared to be very rich in vagile fauna settled between and under stones. Macrobenthos consisted mainly of amphipods (ca. 85% of total number), gastropods (11%) and nemerteans (3%). The abundance of whole macrofauna ranged to over 50,000 ind. m-2 and its biomass over 600 g m-2 (FW). Seven species of Amphipoda and four species of Gastropoda were found. Amphipoda were dominated by Gondogeneia antarctica (over 70% of all amphipods) and Paramoera edouardi (over 20%), whereas among gastropods Laevilitorina antarctica prevailed (over 70%). Unexpectedly high abundance and biomass of Amphipoda were observed in the first half of winter (May/July), surpassing otherwise important summer amphipod abundance. The probable reason for this phenomenon could be high autumn abundance of decaying algae on the beach in the tidal zone, providing detritus that is probably the main food source for Amphipoda.  相似文献

Monthly samples of the macrobenthic fauna were collected during February 1983-February 1984, in a coastal lagoon of Evros Delta (North Aegean Sea), characterized by a very strong monthly fluctuation of temperature and salinity. 3 groups of samples were distinguished, the first including those taken during the spring months, the second, those taken during summer and autumn, and the third, the samples of winter months. All the above samples were homogeneous concerning number of species, species richness (Margálef index) and evenness, but not as far as species diversity (Shannon-Wiener index) is concerned. The monthly variation of the total number of individuals and total biomass was significant, with highest values in spring, beginning of summer and autumn. Most months, polychaetes dominating, having the highest relative abundance and wet biomass. The 8 dominating species, which had a cumulative dominance of about 93%, showed strong monthly variation of abundance and biomass.  相似文献

A survey of the Creixell beach suprabenthos community was carried out from January 1991 to January 1992. The structural evolution of the suprabenthic community reflects the severe and fluctuating environmental conditions of this beach: dominance of a reduced number of peracarid species, low species richness and diversity indices and strong fluctuations of density values. The strong wave action in the surf zone is the main environmental factor of the beach. In relation to such action, the suprabenthic community has the typical features of an exposed and dissipative beach community: abundance of resident and endemic swimmer mysids, distinct bathymetric zonation patterns of populations and migrations related to storm/calm cycles.  相似文献

Questions: (1) Does soil acidification in calcareous sandy grasslands lead to loss of plant diversity? (2) What is the relationship between the soil content of lime and the plant availability of mineral nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) in sandy grasslands? Location: Sandy glaciofluvial deposits in south‐eastern Sweden covered by xeric sand calcareous grasslands (EU habitat directive 6120). Methods: Soil and vegetation were investigated in most of the xeric sand calcareous grasslands in the Scania region (136 sample plots distributed over four or five major areas and about 25 different sites). Environmental variables were recorded at each plot, and soil samples were analysed for exchangeable P and N, as well as limestone content and pH. Data were analysed with regression analysis and canonical correspondence analysis. Results: Plant species richness was highest on weakly acid to slightly alkaline soil; a number of nationally red‐listed species showed a similar pattern. Plant species diversity and number of red‐listed species increased with slope. Where the topsoil had been acidified, limestone was rarely present above a depth of 30 cm. The presence of limestone restricts the availability of soil P, placing a major constraint on primary productivity in sandy soils. Conclusions: Acidification of sandy grasslands leads to reduced abundance of desirable species, although the overall effect is rather weak between pH 5 and pH 9. Slopes are important for high diversity in sandy grasslands. Calcareous soils cannot be restored through shallow ploughing, but deep perturbation could increase the limestone content of the topsoil and favour of target species.  相似文献

Cryptic invertebrate communities in coral rubble and sand from Hanauma Bay, a Marine Life Conservation District, were analyzed. Substratum samples were collected from the shallow bench and sand channels next to the beach and the cryptofauna were examined. Sand from the shallows (0.6 m deep) is frequently trampled by beach users and has a depauperate community dominated by a polychaete (Saccocirrus alanhongi) and a variety of nematodes (mean no. taxa = 12, mean no. individuals = 1,143 (0.1 m–2), but sand collected 25 m seaward from below trampling depths (3 m). showed significantly greater diversity (mean no. taxa = 46, mean no. individuals = 6,448 (0.1 m–2). Coralline rubble from 0.5 m depth was acid dissolved to extract the cryptofauna that was trapped on 0.5 and 0.25 mm sieves. In total, 102 taxa and 10,673 individual invertebrates (0.1 m–2) were found. Rubble collected from areas used by waders had a greater diversity than sand habitats. This substratum provides a greater variety of microhabitats and protection from trampling for endolithic fauna than sand. Waders may actively avoid rubble because of the discomfort from walking on this hard, uneven substratum. We found that despite enforced protective measures, i.e., stopping fishing and collecting of marine life, banning fish feeding, and limiting the number of visitors, disturbance by human trampling on shallow sands still reduces the species richness in these areas. Cryptic biota below wading depths, and from adjacent coral rubble on sand, are not similarly affected. These results are similar to those from another heavily used beach on Oahu and cryptofauna ecology may be useful to adopt as a management option for Marine Preserves in other locations. Abstract. Data on distribution and abundance of rare plant species on isolated coastal dunes along the rocky coast of northwestern Spain were compared with the local floristic literature in order to reconstruct past distribution and local extinction of species. Species extinction was not confined to species with a narrow distribution but also included widely distributed ones. Moreover, there was no evidence of colonization. Species number was related to beach and dune area, but species differed in the minimum area required for occurrence. The largest dune reserve possible would probably be insufficient to avoid further extinctions, so also small areas containing particular species should be preserved. There was no significant relationship between abundance of species in the local dune communities and their total distribution, and there were few satellite species. The former might be attributed to low fertility and habitat diversity.  相似文献

We studied the effects of plant diversity on abundance of invertebrate herbivores, parasitoids and predators in two grassland communities (one in Switzerland and one in Sweden) in which plant species richness and functional diversity have been experimentally manipulated. Among herbivores, the abundance of only the most sessile and specialised groups (leafhoppers and wingless aphids) was affected by plant diversity. At both sites, numbers of leafhoppers in sweep net samples showed a linear, negative relationship with plant species number whereas numbers of wingless aphids in suction samples increased with the number of plant functional groups (grasses, legumes, and non-legume forbs) present in the plot. Activity of carabid beetles and spiders (as revealed by pitfall catches) and the total number of predators in pitfalls at the Swiss site decreased linearly with increases in the number of plant species and plant functional groups. Abundance of more specialised enemies, hymenopteran parasitoids, was not affected by the manipulations of plant diversity. Path analysis and analysis of covariance indicated that plant diversity effects on invertebrate abundance were mostly indirect and mediated by changes in plant biomass and cover. At both sites, plant species composition (i.e. the identity of plant species in a mixture) affected numbers of most of the examined groups of invertebrates and was, therefore, a more important determinant of invertebrate abundance in grasslands than plant species richness per se or the number of plant functional groups. The presence of legumes in a mixture was especially important and led to higher numbers of most invertebrate groups. The similarity of invertebrate responses to plant diversity at the two study sites indicates that general patterns in abundance of different trophic groups can be detected across plant diversity gradients under different environmental conditions.  相似文献

The semi-arid Caatinga is the fourth largest biome of Brazil, which biota still remains one of the most poorly known, especially with regard to invertebrate groups. In this study, a ground-foraging ant assemblage was surveyed during one year and the effect of rainfall on pitfall trapping was assessed. The study was performed in an area located in the municipality of Pentecoste (3 degrees 48' S - 39 degrees 20' W), in the State of Ceará. A 200m transect with 20 equidistant sampling points was established. Transect sampling was performed once a month during 12 months, over the period August 2008-August 2009. At each sampling point, a pitfall trap partially filled with a mixture of ethanol and monoethylene glycol was placed at the beginning of each month and remained in the field for seven days. 39 species belonging to six subfamilies and 19 genera, plus two unidentified species, were collected, with Pheidole (10 spp.) and Camponotus (8 spp.) being the taxa with the most species. 23 species were frequent, being found in more than 50% of the 12 transect samplings. Five species had an intermediate frequency (25 to 50%), while 13 were relatively infrequent (less than 25%). Most of the species (22) showed low occurrence, being found in less than 10% of the 240 samples (20 samples each month, during 12 months). Only five species were collected in more than 50% of the samples, those species being also responsible for most of the total abundance (number of captured individuals of all species) observed each month. The species-accumulation curves (observed and estimated) indicated that sampling sufficiency was attained, and that about 92% of the estimated ground-foraging ant fauna had been collected. 40 and 29 species were collected in the dry and rainy season, respectively, with monthly species richness ranging from 13 to 28. The total ant abundance showed a drastic decrease during the rainy season, and a negative linear correlation was found between rainfall and total ant abundance (R2 = 0.68). A similar negative linear correlation was found for species occurrences against rainfall (R2 = 0.71), and for mean number of species per pitfall trap against rainfall (R2 = 0.71). However, some species showed equal abundance, occurrence and mean number of individuals per pitfall trap in both seasons, while others showed a much higher abundance and occurrence during the rainy season. Pitfall trapping as a method to sample ground-foraging ant assemblage of the Caatinga biome and potential factors responsible for lower pitfall trap performance during rainy season are discussed.  相似文献

Sandfly prevalence in the Kani tribe settlements of Western Ghats in India was investigated. A total of 1,279 sandflies comprising 17 species was obtained. Sandfly abundance showed a negative correlation (r = -0.97, p = 0.003) with increase in altitudinal ranges from 0-1,000 m. When sandfly samples were grouped according to landscape characteristics of the location, the estimated Shannon-Weiner index (H) and species richness index (S) were high and species evenness index (J) was low in settlements located at 0-300 m altitudinal range. On the contrary, the values of H and J were high, while S was low at 301-600 m altitudinal range. With further increase in altitude, species diversity, S and J were low. Though the relative abundance of sandflies decreased with increase in altitude, the influence of altitudinal variation could not be attributed to determine sandfly diversity, since the number of sampling units were not uniform at all the altitudinal gradients due to nonavailability of suitable resting shelters. Sandfly species showed great aggregation at 0-300 m altitude interval, where not only the number of settlements were maximum (n = 19), but also the environmental conditions favoured sandfly abundance due to the concentration of tribal settlements, human dwellings and his activities.  相似文献

The ichthyofauna fished in Bahía de Navidad, Jalisco, Mexico in the Central Pacific was surveyed during 1998. Six thousand nine hundred and fourty-four organisms of 130 species were caught which weighted 3,231 kg. Nearly 30% of the species belonged to Carangidae. Haemulidae and Sciaenidae. The most important species in number and biomass were Microlepidotus brevipinnins, Caranx caninus and C. caballus. Species number, abundance and biomass fluctuated during the year. The largest number of species was caught in June (61), the minimum in March (33). January had the maximum abundance (1,397 organisms), while the minimum was obtained during August (251). The maximum biomass values were from January (556.5 kg), and the lowest from August (114.7 kg). Eighteen species accumulated 87% of the total abundance, while 20 species represented 86.3% of the biomass. There were large in differences species number, abundance and biomass nets of different mesh size.  相似文献

Seasonal variations of polychaetes in a Thalassia testudinum bed were studied from June 2000 to April 2001 in Chacopata, northeastern Venezuela. Eight replicate samples were taken monthly with a 15 cm diameter core and the sediment was passed through a 0.5 mm mesh sieve. A total of 1,013 specimens, belonging to 35 species, was collected. The monthly density ranged from 387 ind/m2 (September) to 1,735 ind/m2 in May (x = 989+/-449 ind/m2). Species richness was lowest in August and September (8) and highest (25) in April (x = 18.00+/-5.29). The shoot density of Thalassia showed an average of 284+/-77.60 shoots/m2, with extreme values in February (164) and May (422). Species diversity ranged from 1.25 in August and 3.33 bits/ind in December (x = 2.47+/-0.64). Significant positive correlations were detected among the number of Thalassia shoots, polychaete abundance and species richness, as well as among species richness, polychaete abundance and species diversity. Species number and average density were found within the intervals of mean values reported in similar studies. The higher number of species and organisms obtained in March-April and June-July can be attributed to the recruitment correlated with the regional up-welling.  相似文献

为了解岛礁水域沙地生境的鱼类群落结构特征,评估该生境对鱼类资源养护的潜在作用,于2009年采用多网目组合刺网对枸杞岛潮下带沙质区域进行了逐月采样,同步设置岩礁为对照生境.应用α和β多样性指数结合相对重要性指数、相对渔获率、ABC曲线和聚类排序方法对两种生境中的鱼类组成、多样性变化和群落格局与变化进行了全面探讨.全年在沙地和岩礁生境共采集鱼类63种,隶属11目38科56属,2种生境各自出现的鱼类皆为46种.受暖水种频繁出现在沙地生境的影响,潮下带沙质区域鱼类区系比岩礁生境略显丰富,且春夏季的渔获量普遍高于岩礁生境;由于种类组成均匀度较低,沙地生境各季节的α多样性普遍较低,夏季显著低于岩礁生境.日本须鳎是沙地生境的指示种,为早春、夏末和秋冬季沙地底层优势鱼种.5-7月鳀、多数月份鲻和10月份鳗鲇等种类对沙地生境的阶段性利用,使其形成了区别于以趋礁性鱼类为优势类群的岩礁生境的群落格局和季节动态.沙地是多种鱼类幼鱼阶段的庇护所和饵料场,是鲆鲽类的良好栖息地.沙地生境在维持鱼类区系和养护鱼类资源方面具有重要作用.  相似文献

Research was undertaken to characterize Escherichia coli isolates in interstitial water samples of a sandy beach on the southeastern shore of Lake Huron, Ontario, Canada. A survey of the beach area revealed the highest abundance of E. coli in interstitial water of the foreshore beach sand next to the swash zone. Higher concentrations of E. coli (up to 1.6 x 10(6) CFU/100 ml of water) were observed in the interstitial water from the sampling holes on the beach itself compared to lake water and sediment. Repetitive extragenic palindromic PCR (REP-PCR) was used to characterize the genetic diversity of E. coli isolates from interstitial water samples on the beach. E. coli isolates from the same sampling location frequently exhibited the same REP-PCR pattern or were highly similar to each other. In contrast, E. coli isolates from different sampling locations represented populations distinct from each other. This study has identified a unique ecological niche within the foreshore area of the beach where E. coli may survive and possibly multiply outside of host organisms. The results are of interest as increasing concentrations of E. coli in recreational waters are often considered to be an indication of recent fecal pollution.  相似文献

Availability of food and habitat complexity are two factors generally invoked to explain the high density of fish in vegetated habitats. The role of food resources (zooplankton) and habitat complexity (expressed by a vegetation structural index) in determining juvenile fish abundance and fish species richness in three morphologically contrasted macrophyte types (Sagittaria, Ceratophyllum and Nuphar) was studied for a large, lowland river.
Our results showed that fish abundance increased with food availability, and was maximal for intermediate values of vegetation complexity. Food resources and vegetation complexity did not, however, explain the higher juvenile fish abundance observed in Sagittaria beds. We suggested that plant growth form, acting on fish foraging success and risk of predation, might influence patterns of juvenile fish distribution.
Species‐abundance relationships were similar among the three macrophyte types, but relationships between number of fish species (fish richness) and number of samples differed. Fish richness in terms of total number of fish species found at each sampling point showed the same pattern as for fish abundance: it increased with food availability and was highest at intermediate vegetation complexities. However, since both fish abundance and fish richness responded in the same manner to food availability and vegetation complexity, we were not able to distinguish statistically any effect for the specific fish richness formulated by the number of fish species per unit fish abundance. The current paradigm that structural complexity of vegetation provides a wider range of niches, increasing species diversity, was thus not verified. This finding indicates a simple species‐abundance relationship (the passive sampling hypothesis), and suggests that no special mechanism acts directly on fish species richness.  相似文献
