Background
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) play an important role in the modeling and remodeling of the extracellular matrix in both physiologic and pathologic states and thus plays an important role in tumor progression. Human collagenase-3 (MMP-13) is a member of matrix metalloproteinase family of enzymes that was originally identified in breast carcinomas and subsequently detected during fetal ossification and in arthritic processes.Aim
The present study was designed to investigate the expression MMP-13 and to correlate its expression with clinicopathological parameters in chondrosarcoma of the jaws. Methods
Archival tumor tissues from 11 patients with chondrosarcoma of the jaws were analyzed by immunohistochemistry for the expression of MMP-13. Clinical information was obtained through the computerized retrospective database from the tumor registry between 1998 to 2006.Results
Eight of 11 cases (72.8 %) of chondrosarcomas showed a positive reaction for MMP-13, whereas two cases of normal cartilage were negative for this collagenase. As regard the clinicopathological parameters, there was no correlation between MMP-13 expression and sex, age and tumor site. While, there were significant associations between MMP-13 expression and both of mitotic counts and necrosis. On the other hand, there was a significant difference between low and high grade tumors (P < 0.05) regarding MMP-13 expression. Also, there was no significant correlation between MMP-13 expression in primary lesions and their local recurrence. Conclusion
MMP-13 is expressed in the majority of chondrosarcoma of the jaws. It is also noteworthy that the expression of MMP-13 may be related to tumor biological aggressiveness and used to aid in predicting patient's poor prognosis. 相似文献4.

Learning Objectives: After studying this article, the participant should be able to discuss: 1. Clinical features and anatomy of rhinophyma. 2. The etiology and epidemiology of rhinophyma. 3. Associated diagnosis that can complicate rhinophyma. 4. Common nonsurgical and surgical therapies for rhinophyma. 5. A safe and integrated treatment plan for the patient with rhinophyma. 相似文献

A number of skin conditions are characterised by photosensitivity to UVA. Some of these are exclusively UVA-mediated conditions, while others include UVA in the action spectrum which also include UVB and/or visible light. This review aims to describe this diverse range of conditions for non-dermatologist scientists with an interest in this topic. As such, clinical details, including treatments, are brief and succinct. Recent advances in understanding the pathogenesis of these conditions is highlighted. 相似文献

The use of therapeutic ultrasound to treat atherosclerosis and thrombosis has been appreciated for decades. However, it was only the explosive growth of angioplasty in the 1980s that brought real momentum to the development of therapeutic catheter ultrasound. The idea behind this technique was that ultrasound, by its bioselectivity, might provide a solution to some of the shortcomings of balloon angioplasty. In the late 1980s, two groups, headed by Rosenschein and Siegel, began serious work to address the technical challenge of developing a catheter that would provide efficient external ultrasound energy to the lesion. Current catheters from both groups consist of a solid metal probe which is connected to a piezoelectric transducer. In the distal segment, the wire is specially designed to increase energy delivery. Initial in vitro studies concentrated on understanding the mechanisms of ablation and the effects of mechanical vibration, thermal phenomena and cavitation. Clinical studies of ultrasound ablation were initially performed in peripheral vessels. Later, after safety had been assured, clinical studies involving the coronary arteries began to take place. In this article we aim to update the reader about the experimental and limited clinical experience in this novel technique for treating different kinds of arterial obstruction. 相似文献

We conducted a review of the literature regarding epidemiology, clinical, electrocardiographic and vectorcardiographic aspects, classification, and differential diagnosis of left posterior fascicular block.Isolated left posterior fascicular block (LPFB) is an extremely rare finding both in the general population and in specific patient groups. In isolated LPFB 20% of the vectorcardiographic (VCG) QRS loop is located in the right inferior quadrant and when associated with right bundle branch block (RBBB) ≥40%.The diagnosis of LPFB should always consider the clinical aspects, because a definite diagnosis cannot be made in the presence of right ventricular hypertrophy (RVH) (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)/emphysema), extensive lateral myocardial infarction (MI) or extremely vertical heart.Intermittent LPFBs are never complete blocks (transient or second degree LPFB) and even in the permanent ones, one cannot be sure that they are complete. When LPFB is associated with RBBB and acute inferior MI, PR interval prolongation is very frequent. 相似文献
