To evaluate the influence of breed on the accumulation of dietary copper (Cu) in tissue, and on blood parameters indicative of Cu status, ten Galician Blond, nine Holstein-Friesian and ten Galician Blond × Holstein-Friesian cross (GB × HF) steers were fed diets supplemented with 35 mg/kg DM of CuSO4 during their growing and finishing periods. Blood samples were taken monthly, and samples of liver, kidney, brain, heart, spleen and muscle were taken at slaughter. Cu concentrations were determined by ICP-AES. Holstein-Friesian calves had significantly higher total liver Cu contents than Galician Blonds and GB × HF crosses (mean 1070, 663 and 868 mg, respectively), combined with higher hepatic Cu concentrations (174, 140 and 166 mg/kg wet weight, respectively). Holstein-Friesian calves had also the highest prevalence (89%) of hepatic Cu concentrations exceeding the toxic limit of 150 mg/kg wet weight. Breed did not have a statistically significant influence on blood parameters. With the exception of the semitendinosus muscle, where Holstein-Friesians (0.790 mg/kg) had significantly higher Cu levels than Galician Blonds (0.541 mg/kg) or GB × HF crosses (0.631 mg/kg), no other statistically significant differences by breed in the extrahepatic tissue Cu distribution were observed. A negative statistical association between carcass performance and the ratio of semitendinosus and liver Cu concentration could indicate that the animals with a better carcass performance (Galician Blonds) could need a higher Cu mobilisation into the muscle, resulting in a lower hepatic storage. 相似文献

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of differently fermentable carbohydrates on changes in bacterial populations in the ileum of growing pigs fed low-phosphorus (P) diets. Eight barrows (mean surgery BW 36 ± 0.9 kg) were fitted with simple T-cannulae at the distal ileum and were assigned to one of four dietary treatments: maize-soybean meal based control diet (CD), or 0.75 of CD supplemented with 0.25 lignocellulose, maize starch and high-methylated apple-pectin, respectively. Total bacterial cell counts as well as cell counts of Lactobacillus spp., Lactobacillus reuteri, Lactobacillus amylovorus/Lactobacillus sobrius, Lactobacillus mucosae, Enterococcus spp., Enterococcus faecium, Enterococcus faecalis, bifidobacteria, Clostridium coccoides cluster, Clostridium leptum cluster, Bacteroides–Prevotella–Porphyrmonas group and Enterobacteriaceae were determined by quantitative realtime PCR in DNA extracts of ileal digesta. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) of DNA fragments, generated by PCR targeting total or Lactobacillus spp. 16S rDNA, was used to estimate the bacterial diversity in the ileum. Lignocellulose supplementation tended (P<0.1) to increase cell counts of total bacteria in faeces compared with the control. Ileal bacterial populations responded differently to carbohydrate addition. Maize starch supplementation strongly stimulated the growth of total lactobacilli and Lactobacillus species (P≤0.05). Lignocellulose, in turn, enhanced the numbers of bifidobacteria, but reduced those of L. amylovorus compared with the control (P<0.05). Finally, pectin tended to increase the cell numbers of L. amylovorus/L. sobrius and the Bacteroides–Prevotella–Porphyrmonas group compared with the control (P<0.1). DGGE analysis revealed increased band numbers for total bacteria in the ileum of animals fed the lignocellulose and maize starch supplemented diets, while pectin reduced total bacterial (P<0.1) and Lactobacillus spp. diversity (P<0.05) compared with the control, as determined with the Shannon's index. Ileal VFA concentrations were decreased by pectin, while lignocellulose decreased faecal VFA concentrations. In conclusion, ileal bacterial populations and diversity are susceptible to changes in the carbohydrate composition of the diet. However, these changes were not related to major differences in the number of total bacteria in ileal digesta and faeces, but rather to changes in the bacterial species composition and their metabolic activity. 相似文献

This study was aimed at determining if the increase of body astaxanthin content through dietary supplementation in tiger prawn Penaeus monodon juvenile could enhance its antioxidant defense capability and resistance to ammonia stress. Haemolymph total antioxidant status (TAS) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were chosen as parameters of shrimp antioxidant capacity. Resistance to chemical stress was evaluated by shrimp survival rate, and haemolymph aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT). P. monodon 5-day postlarvae were fed diets supplemented with 0 and 71.5 mg kg−1 astaxanthin for 8 weeks. Shrimps were then subjected to 72-h exposure of ammonia at 0.02, 0.2, 2 and 20 mg l−1. The survival rates of the astaxanthin-fed (AX) shrimp were higher than those of the control shrimp under all levels of ammonia except 20 mg l−1, showing that the shrimp's resistance to ammonia stress had been improved by dietary astaxanthin. AX shrimp had higher TAS than control shrimp at ammonia levels higher than 0.02 mg l−1 and lower SOD at all ammonia levels suggested that antioxidation capability had been greatly enhanced. AST in AX shrimp was lower than that in control shrimp under all levels of ammonia stress. ALT in AX shrimp was either lower than or equal to that in control shrimp under various levels of ammonia. Both AST and ALT reflected that shrimp hepatopancreatic function had been improved by dietary astaxanthin. The effects of different modes of inulin supplementation on caecal fermentation were evaluated in rats. Groups IN(up) and IN(down) were fed diets in which the content of inulin increased from 1-5% and decreased from 5-1%, every 8 days, respectively. The common effects of inulin on caecal fermentation, i.e. enlargement of tissue, acidification of digesta, a decrease in activities of potentially harmful bacterial enzymes (beta-glucuronidase and beta-glucosidase), and an increase in the total volatile fatty acids concentration and pool, were especially observed in the IN, S/IN and IN(up) groups. The results suggested that the intensity of caecal fermentation is increased when inulin is present at a relatively high dietary level and that these changes are easily reversible after inulin withdrawal from feed. 相似文献

The aim of the experiment was to compare the antioxidative potential of an oat by-product with the effect of vitamin E on the oxidative stability of pork from pigs fed a diet enriched with linseed oil. Thirty-four crossbreed barrows were fed individually from 39 to 109 kg body weight (BW) on one of four diets: a control diet based on barley-triticale-soybean (Diet C), a diet containing an oat byproduct (Diet O), and the same diets supplemented with vitamin E (100 mg/kg diet) (Diets CE and OE, respectively). The oat by-product, comprising oat hulls and bran, was included at 10 and 20% in the grower and finisher diets, respectively. To Diets O and OE, refined rapeseed oil was added to equalise their energy content to Diets C and CE. Compared to Diets C and CE, the inclusion of the oat by-product in Diets O and OE increased the antioxidative capacity of water-soluble and lipid soluble compounds in these diets. Dietary treatment did not influence growth performance, slaughter value, longissimus dorsi (LD) muscle quality measured by nutrient contents, pH, drip loss or colour. Vitamin E supplementation increased the alpha-tocopherol concentration in serum and meat (p < 0.01), and decreased the formation of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) in the fresh and stored LD (p < 0.01). In addition, diets with the oat by-product increased serum alpha-tocopherol concentration (p < 0.01) and decreased the TBARS levels in the fresh and stored LD (p < 0.05), without increasing muscle alpha-tocopherol concentration. The obtained results indicate that the phenolic compounds present in oat by-products have a considerable antioxidant potential and a beneficial effect on the pig organism and oxidative stability of meat. However, dietary inclusion with the oat by-product was not as efficient as supplementation with vitamin E. 相似文献

Some individuals within populations of Atlantic salmon Salmo salar and Arctic charr Salvelinus alpinus fed diets supplemented with oxytetracycline (OTC) developed spinal deformations. Possible differences in feed intake and growth of spinally deformed fish relative to fish without any deformities were investigated. Amongst Atlantic salmon, 17% of the fish fed OTC-supplemented feed developed spinal fractures, whereas none of the fish receiving the basic feed did so. Despite deformation of the spinal column, the injured fish continued to feed and grow, but at lower rates than unaffected individuals. In contrast to Atlantic salmon, Arctic charr showed no signs of spinal fractures at any time during the 65-day experiment. 相似文献

Three groups of six calves each were fed a milk replacer at 0.8 kg and a starter concentrate ad libitum. Calves of the control group received the basal diet supplemented with rapeseed oil at 10 g per kg of feed solids. Calves of treatment groups were fed diets supplemented with a synthetically produced oil containing 62.3% methyl esters of CLA. The CLA-oil was added to milk at expense of rapeseed oil and fed at 5 and 10 g · kg?1 feed solids for 63 days. Calves were slaughtered at 115 days of age. There was no significant effect of CLA on growth, intake of starter, feed conversion, chemical composition of meat and its oxidative stability. Dietary supplementation with CLA at 10 g · kg?1 significantly increased CLA content in m. longissimus dorsi (MLD) from 5.6 to 19.3 mg · 100 g?1, in liver from 13.1 to 68.8 mg · 100 g?1, and in perirenal fat from 0.37 to 3.17 g · 100 g?1. Dietary CLA decreased the ratio of cis-9, trans-11 and trans-10, cis-12 isomers of CLA in tissues, concentration of monounsaturated fatty acids in the MLD and fat, as well as the concentration of fatty acids with 20 and 22 carbon atoms. It can be concluded that in veal calves unprotected CLA apparently escaped ruminal hydrogenation, but was preferentially incorporated into depot fat. 相似文献

Enterococci from pigs in Denmark, Spain, and Sweden were examined for susceptibility to antimicrobial agents and copper and the presence of selected resistance genes. The greatest levels of resistance were found among isolates from Spain and Denmark compared to those from Sweden, which corresponds to the amounts of antimicrobial agents used in food animal production in those countries. Similar genes were found to encode resistance in the different countries, but the tet(L) and tet(S) genes were more frequently found among isolates from Spain. A recently identified transferable copper resistance gene was found in all copper-resistant isolates from the different countries. 相似文献

Whole body sterol balance, hepatic 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase activity, hepatic low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor levels and net tissue cholesterol concentrations were determined in guinea pigs fed either a corn oil- or lard-based purified diet for 6-7 weeks. In comparison to the saturated lard diet, the polyunsaturated corn oil diet resulted in a 34% reduction in plasma total cholesterol levels (P less than 0.02) and a 40% lower triacylglycerol level (P less than 0.02). Feeding the corn oil diet altered very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and LDL composition; the percent cholesterol ester in both particles was decreased and the relative percentages of VLDL triacylglycerol and LDL phospholipid increased. The ratio of surface to core components of LDL from corn oil-fed guinea pigs was significantly higher compared to LDL from animals fed lard. Dietary fat quality had no effect on fecal neutral or acidic steroid excretion, net tissue accumulation of cholesterol, whole body cholesterol synthesis or gallbladder bile composition. Consistent with these results was the finding that fat quality did not alter either expressed (non-phosphorylated) or total hepatic HMG-CoA reductase activities. The hepatic concentrations of free and esterified cholesterol were significantly increased in corn oil-fed animals, as were cholesterol concentrations in intestine, adipose tissue, muscle and total carcass. Analysis of receptor-mediated LDL binding to isolated hepatic membranes demonstrated that the polyunsaturated corn-oil based diet caused a 1.9-fold increase in receptor levels (P less than 0.02). The data indicate that the hypocholesterolemic effects of dietary polyunsaturated fat in the guinea pig are not attributable to changes in endogenous cholesterol synthesis or catabolism but rather may result from a redistribution of plasma cholesterol to body tissue due to an increase in tissue LDL receptors. 相似文献

In a four-week experiment on 60 7-day-old BUT-9 male turkeys the effects of dietary fructooligosaccharides (pure nystose and a fructooligosaccharide mixture) supplemented at 1 and 2%, were studied on ileal and caecal metabolism. The control carbohydrate was cellulose, added also at 1 or 2%. Each dietary treatment consists of 10 birds kept individually. The average degree of polymerisation of the nystose and oligofructose preparation amounted to 2.9 and 4.1, respectively. The addition of nystose significantly decreased the pH value and viscosity in the ileal contents compared with the cellulose treatment. On the other hand, the oligofructose preparation increased the activity of sucrase and lactase in the ileal mucosal by 30-60% and 33-47%, respectively. Both fructan preparations similarly acidified the caecal and colonic digesta (by 0.2-0.4 pH units) as well as diminished the activity of bacterial harmful beta-glucuronidase (by 24-40%), but only nystose caused an enlargement of the caeca and effectively reduced caecal ammonia concentration, especially at a higher dose. Oligofructose supplementation at 2% caused a 3.5-fold increase of bacterial activity of alph- and beta-galactosidase, while 2% nystose resulted in 1.7 and 3 times higher alpha- and beta-glucosidases activities, respectively. Compared to oligofructose, dietary nystose increased propionic and decreased butyric fermentation in caeca. Nystose and oligofructose preparations added at 2% reduced the triacylglycerol concentration in the serum in comparison to the addition of 2% cellulose by 46 and 25%, respectively. Beside the fact that dietary levels of supplementation were of great importance, the results indicated that even small difference in the length of carbohydrate chain may cause different physiological responses. 相似文献

The aim of this investigation was to assess the nutritional and health properties of Mon Thong durian cultivar at different stages of ripening. The assessment was carried out in vitro and in vivo. The contents of dietary fibers, minerals and trace metals at different stages of ripening were comparable. Total polyphenols (mgGAE/100 g FW) and flavonoids (mg CE/100 gFW) in ripe durian (358.8 +/- 31.4 and 95.4 +/- 9.3) were significantly higher (p < 0.05) than in mature (216.1 +/- 1 and 39.9 +/- 3.8) and overripe (283.3 +/- 26.2 and 53.5 +/- 4.9). Antioxidant capacity (muMTE/100 g FW) in total polyphenol extracts of ripe durian measured by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH) and [2,2'-azinobis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)] (ABTS) assays (259.4 +/- 23.6 and 2341.8 +/- 93.2) were significantly higher (p < 0.05) than that of mature (151.6 +/- 15.2 and 1394.6 +/- 41.5) and overripe (201.7 +/- 19.4 and 1812.2 +/- 61.4) samples. The correlation coefficients between the bioactive compounds in different stages of ripening and their antioxidant capacities were high (R;{2} = 0.99). Then 35 male Wistar rats were divided into 5 dietary groups each of 7 and named Control, Chol, Chol/Mature, Chol/Ripe and Chol/Overripe. During 30 days of the experiment the rats of all 5 groups were fed basal diet (BD), which included wheat starch, casein, soybean oil, vitamin and mineral mixtures. The rats of the Control group were fed a BD only. To the BD of the Chol group was added 1% of cholesterol. The BD of the Chol/Mature, Chol/Ripe and Chol/Overripe groups was supplemented with 1% of cholesterol and 5% of the mature, ripe and overripe durian as freeze-dried powder, respectively. Diets containing ripe and to a lesser degree mature and overripe durian significantly hindered the rise in plasma lipids and also hindered a decrease in plasma antioxidant activity. The nitrogen retention in rats of the Chol/Ripe group was significantly higher (63.6%, P < 0.05) than in other diet groups and the level of the plasma glucose remained normal. A decrease in fibrinogen fraction with ripe durian included in rat's diets was shown by electrophoretic separation. These changes were detected mostly in the low molecular weight proteins of rat's serum. Histological examination of aorta showed only slight differences in the tissue. In conclusion, ripe durian contains higher quantity of bioactive compounds, has higher antioxidant capacity and nutritional value. It positively affects the plasma lipid profile, the plasma glucose and the antioxidant activity in rats fed cholesterol enriched diets. Therefore, the ripe durian supplemented diet could be beneficial for patient suffering from hypercholesterolemia and diabetes mellitus. < 相似文献

Aims: To investigate the relationship between ruminal methanogen community and host enteric methane (CH4) production in lactating dairy cows fed diets supplemented with an exogenous fibrolytic enzyme additive. Methods and Results: Ecology of ruminal methanogens from dairy cows fed with or without exogenous fibrolytic enzymes was examined using PCR–denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR–DGGE) analyses and quantitative real‐time PCR (qRT‐PCR). The density of methanogens was not affected by the enzyme additive or sampling times, and no relationship was observed between the total methanogen population and CH4 yield (as g per head per day or g kg?1 DMI). The PCR–DGGE profiles consisted of 26 distinctive bands, with two bands similar to Methanogenic archaeon CH1270 negatively correlated, and one band similar to Methanobrevibacter gottschalkii strain HO positively correlated, with CH4 yield. Three bands similar to Methanogenic archaeon CH1270 or Methanobrevibacter smithii ATCC 35061 appeared after enzyme was added. Conclusions: Supplementing a dairy cow diet with an exogenous fibrolytic enzyme additive increased CH4 yield and altered the composition of the rumen methanogen community, but not the overall density of methanogens. Significance and Impact of the Study: This is the first study to identify the correlation between methanogen ecology and host CH4 yield from lactating dairy cows. 相似文献

Morphology and end product patterns were used to group 112 bacterial isolates from the ceca and colons of pigs fed unmedicated and chlortetracycline-containing diets. The objective of this research was to compare values for digestible energy (DE) and metabolisable energy (ME) and apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of nutrients in 11 diets fed to both growing pigs and gestating sows. Three diets were based on corn, wheat or sorghum and eight diets were based on a combination of corn and soybean meal, canola meal, conventional distillers’ dried grains with solubles, low-fat distillers’ dried grains with solubles, corn germ meal, corn bran, wheat middlings or soybean hulls. A total of 88 gestating sows (252 ± 24.2 kg BW; parity two to six) and 88 growing barrows (40 ± 4.7 kg BW) were used and randomly allotted to the 11 diets with eight replicate sows or pigs per diet. Faecal and urine samples were collected for 4 d following a 19 d adaptation period. The DE, ME and ATTD of gross energy (GE), acid detergent fibre (ADF), neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and crude protein (CP) in the 11 diets were calculated. Gestating sows had greater (p < 0.05) ATTD of GE and CP and DE values for all diets compared with growing pigs. Gestating sows also had greater (p < 0.05) ME values than growing pigs for the three grain diets and the diets containing wheat middlings and soybean hulls. No differences were observed in ATTD of ADF and NDF between gestating sows and growing pigs for any of the diets, except that gestating sows had greater (p < 0.05) ATTD of NDF than growing pigs when they were fed the four protein diets. The ATTD of GE and CP and DE values in gestating sows may be predicted by using equations generated from the values of ATTD of GE and CP and DE values obtained in growing pigs. Results of this research indicate that ATTD values of CP and GE obtained in gestating sows are greater than the values obtained in growing pigs, but values for ATTD of ADF obtained in growing pigs are not different from values in gestating sows. 相似文献

An experiment was conducted with 384 1-d-old male and female broiler-chicks. The basal corn-soybean meal diet (.07 ppm Se DM basis) was supplemented with 0, .1, .2, or .3 ppm added Se as either sodium selenite (Na2SeO3) or calcium selenite (CaSeO3), and fed for 1, 3, or 5 wk. There was no effect of Se source or level on feed intake or gain, but males consumed more (P less than .01) feed than females. There was no effect (P greater than .10) of sex or Se source on plasma, liver, or kidney Se concentration. The Se concentration of all tissues increased (P less than .01) with time and increasing dietary Se concentration. Based on multiple regression slope ratios of liver, kidney, and plasma Se concentrations, Se from CaSeO3 was as available (103%) as Se from Na2SeO3. 相似文献
