Reproduction and pathogenicity of the five known races of Meloidogyne naasi on two selections of creeping bentgrass were compared. Toronto C-15 was a host for Races 3, 4 and 5, whereas Northmoor 9 supported reproduction of all five races. Differences in susceptibility and population increase demonstrated that the races could be separated by degree of reproduction on the two selections. Root weights generally were unaffected. Based on cumulative dipping weights, all but Race 1 were pathogenic on at least one of the selections; Race 3 stunted top growth of both. Slight differences in degree of pathogenicity, associated with final populations, were not broad enough to be useful in race separation.  相似文献

I propose a set of 11 soybean varieties for the differentiation of races of Peronospora manshurica: Pridesoy, Norchief, Mukden, Richland, Roanoke, Illini, S 100, Palmetto, Dorman, Kabott, and Ogden. When I employed these, I found fifteen new races of Peronospora manshurica, the casual agent of downy mildew of soybeans, described them, and assigned numbers 9 through 23. Race 8 was encountered most frequently and occurred at 40% of the locations from which seed samples were obtained. Races 1, 2, 10, 12, 18, and 23 occurred at 5–8% of the locations sampled. Race 10 was common in the southern U. S. Of 247 soybean seed lots sampled, 73% contained some oospore-encrusted seeds. These ranged from 12–26% lighter than healthy seeds. The percentage of oospore-encrusted seeds occurring in seed lots ranged from 0–25%.  相似文献

Recently, a new genotype of oat (cv. CDC SO-I, containing low-hull lignin and high-fat groat), has been developed. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of partially replacing barley and corn with the new oat and its micronisation on lactating performance of dairy cows. In a double 4 x 4 Latin square design, eight lactating dairy cows (732 +/- 46 kg body weight [BW]; parity 4 +/- 2) received total mixed rations with a forage-to-concentrate ratio of 50:50 (DM basis). The four treatments were: T1, barley only (control); T2, raw oat, replacing 42% barley of T1; T3, micronised oat, replacing 42% barley of T1; and T4, raw oat and corn blend, replacing 100% barley of T1. The results showed that dairy cows fed the new oats (T2, T3) produced more fat (p < 0.05) and more fat corrected milk (p < 0.10) than cows fed barley only (T1). The performance of cows fed the new oat and corn blend (T4) was not significantly different from other treatments. The micronisation significantly reduced protein degradability (74 vs. 63%,p < 0.05), but increased starch degradability (87 vs. 93%,p < 0.05) of the new oat. However, the overall results suggested that micronisation did not show a significant impact on milk production. The newly developed CDC SO-I oat can replace 42% barley (in T1) as a concentrate supplement in dairy total mixed rations with an increased yield of milk fat and fat corrected milk.  相似文献

Virulence of 31 Kenyan isolates of Fusarium oxysporum obtained from bananas showing symptoms of Panama disease was tested against the differential banana cvs Bluggoe, Gros Michel, Dwarf Cavendish, and two other local cvs Muraru and Wang'ae. Seventeen isolates were assigned to either race 1 or race 2 of F. oxysporum f.sp. cubense (FOC). Race 4 was not apparent in this sample of 31 isolates from Kenya as none were pathogenic to cv. Cavendish, and no wilted Cavendish have been observed in field surveys in Kenya. Races could not be assigned to 12 isolates as they were virulent on more than one differential cultivar, and two were apparently not pathogenic. All isolates assigned to races 1 and 2 belonged to the VCG bridging complex 0124/5/8/20, but some other isolates belonging to this VCG complex could not be assigned to race. All five isolates assigned to VCG 01212 could not be assigned to known races. Considerable variability thus exists within FOC isolates within this region. Local cultivars of banana showed differential resistance to the pathogen. The interaction of cultivars and isolates on the level of disease was significant. Overall, cv. Wang'ae was the most susceptible to most of the isolates tested, regardless of their race, and could therefore be used as a reference cultivar in pathogenicity tests of isolates of FOC in the East African region. Of the cultivars tested that are widely grown on smallholder farms in Kenya, Muraru was the least susceptible.  相似文献

Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to compare juvenile cephalic morphology of the five described races of Heterodera glycines. Races 1, 2, 3, and 4 were obtained in the United States and race 5 was obtained from Japan. Differences in the gross morphology o f labial discs; ventral, dorsal and lateral lips; amphidial apertures; and fissures on the labial disc o f some specimens were observed. There was considerable interracial and intraracial variation which precluded separation o f juveniles of H. glycines races by SEM.  相似文献

Races of the Columbia root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne chitzooodi, from Idaho (R1) and Utah (R2) suppressed (P < 0.05) tillering of Dusty winter wheat, Fielder spring wheat, Luther winter barley, and Steptoe spring barley at 15-30 C. Nematode inoculum density was negatively correlated with tillering (r = -0.79). Inoculum densities of both nematode races were negatively correlated with heads per plant (r = -0.83), head length (r = -0.87), and head dry weight (r = 0.73) of Fielder spring wheat and Steptoe spring barley at all temperatures; the greatest growth restrictions occurred at Pi 20 eggs/cm³ soil. Both nematode races were most damaging at 25-30 C. Fielder spring wheat and Steptoe spring barley inoculated with R2 produced fewer heads than R1 when inoculated at 15 C, whereas the same cultivars inoculated with R1 produced fewer heads than R2 at 30 C. No differences were observed between root growth of winter and spring wheat or between winter and spring barley. Nematode reproduction was positively correlated to temperature (r = 0.87) and negatively correlated with inoculum density (r = -0.86). Reproductive rates were greatest with Pi = 2 eggs/cm³ soil at 25 C and lowest with Pi = 20 eggs/cm³ soil at 15 C for both nematode races.  相似文献

The development of infection structures, derived from urediospores of Puccinia recondita f.sp. trilici in nearisogenic lines of susceptible and resistant wheat, and in non-hosts (viz. maize, oat, sorghum and barley), was examined by fluorescence microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The infection structure formation on and in five cereal species follows a similar pattern. In sorghum, fungal development is arrested at the stage of substomatal vesicle formation, while, in maize, most fungal structures collapse during the stage of primary hypha development. By contrast, in wheat, barley and oat, the fungus forms many branched infection hyphae and haustorial mother cells.  相似文献

Races and vegetative compatibility groups (VCGs) in Greek isolates of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. melonis(Fom) were characterized. Three races (0, 2 and 1–2) among 12 isolates tested and two VCGs among 19 isolates tested, were identified. Race 1–2 was the most common and race 1 was not detected. One widespread VCG corresponded to a VCG previously reported from Israel (coded 0138), and included seven isolates of races 0 and 1–2. The other VCG, which was unclassified, included four isolates of races 0, 2 and 1–2. The latter VCG was detected only in a specific melon‐growing location of Evros. The remaining eight isolates tested for VCG did not show positive reactions with other isolates, with each other or with the testers of VCGs 0135 or 0138, although they produced complementary mutants. Using two inoculation methods, the local cv. ‘Golden Head’ was found susceptible to all known Fom races, and especially to race 1–2. These results show the presence of more than one VCG and the widespread distribution of the race 1–2, in Greece.  相似文献

The interspecific interactions of Meloidogyne javanica with races 1, 2, 3, and 4 of M. incognita on tomato were determined. Impacts of the interactions on fecundity and morphometrics of females were also examined. Mutually inhibitory interactions occurred between M. javanica and the races of M. incognita, but the negative interactions did not reflect in plant growth. Numbers of root galls, egg masses, mature females, total population, fecundity, and reproduction factor declined in concomitant treatments, but the morphometrics of the females remained unaltered. In general, mutual suppressive effects in all parameters were smaller for M. javanica than M. incognita, but some variations occurred among the races of M. incognita. Race 2 appeared to be more competitive than other races. The interaction between the species was not intense; therefore, the species coexist in mixed populations in agricultural fields.  相似文献

The wheat stripe (yellow) rust is one of the most important diseases in Iran. In this study, 41 races out of 104 isolates in greenhouse were determined from 2008 to 2010. Races 6E6A+, 6E10A+ and 6E0A+ were more common. Races 0E0A+ was less aggressive than races 166E158A+ and 134E158A+ with virulence on 11 known genes. Virulence on plant/s with gene/s Yr1, Yr2, Yr4, Yr6, Yr7, Yr8, Yr9, Yr10, Yr25, Yr27, YrSU, YrSD, YrND, Yr3, Yr2+, Yr6+, Yr9+, Yr7+, YrCV and YrA was detected. The majority of isolates with high frequency (more than 70%) showed virulence on plant/s with Yr2, Yr7, Yr9 and YrA genes. No virulence was detected on plant/s with Yr3, Yr5 and YrSP. In greenhouse test, frequency of virulence to wheat genotypes with Yr1, Yr4, Yr10, YrCV (32+) and YrSD gene was less than 7%. Frequency of virulence to other wheat genotypes was between 8 and 100%.  相似文献

Brazil is blast disease hot spot because severe epidemics have occurred among wheat, triticale, rye, barley and oat crops. Although the first outbreak of barley blast appeared in 1998, little information is available. Therefore, this study aimed to examine host range, mating type composition and population structure of Magnaporthe sp. from a single barley field in São Paulo, Brazil. To examine pathogenicity, 25 Magnaporthe isolates were inoculated on five, three, two and two cultivars of barley, wheat, oat and rice, respectively, and one cultivar each of rye, corn, sorghum, triticale and certain weeds (Cenchrus echinatus, Setaria geniculata, Brachiaria plantaginea and Eleusine indica). Mating type distribution of 33 isolates was investigated by molecular tools. The genotypic divergence of 41 barley and five wheat isolates was investigated by 15 random amplified polymorphic DNA primers and unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean. The host range of the barley blast pathogen included wheat, oat, rye and triticale but not rice and weeds. Sexual reproduction appeared to not be involved in the high genotypic diversity because only a single isolate, MAT1‐2, was identified. The majority of barley isolates clustered together with wheat blast, except for four, suggesting a different origin.  相似文献

Large ex situ collections require approaches for sampling manageable amounts of germplasm for in-depth characterization and use. We present here a large diversity survey in sorghum with 3367 accessions and 41 reference nuclear SSR markers. Of 19 alleles on average per locus, the largest numbers of alleles were concentrated in central and eastern Africa. Cultivated sorghum appeared structured according to geographic regions and race within region. A total of 13 groups of variable size were distinguished. The peripheral groups in western Africa, southern Africa and eastern Asia were the most homogeneous and clearly differentiated. Except for Kafir, there was little correspondence between races and marker-based groups. Bicolor, Caudatum, Durra and Guinea types were each dispersed in three groups or more. Races should therefore better be referred to as morphotypes. Wild and weedy accessions were very diverse and scattered among cultivated samples, reinforcing the idea that large gene-flow exists between the different compartments. Our study provides an entry to global sorghum germplasm collections. Our reference marker kit can serve to aggregate additional studies and enhance international collaboration. We propose a core reference set in order to facilitate integrated phenotyping experiments towards refined functional understanding of sorghum diversity.  相似文献

Intercellular fluids of compatible race-cultivar interactions of Cladosporium fulvum and tomato contain specific elicitors of necrosis. These elicitors which are of fungal origin induce chlorosis and necrosis in resistant but not in susceptible plants. With the tomato cultivar Sonatine (carrying resistance gene Cf9, resistant to the fungal races 0, 4, 5, 2, 2.4, and 2.4.5 but susceptible to race 2.4.5.9) as the test plant for assaying necrosis-inducing activity, we isolated and partially characterized an elicitor of necrosis on this cultivar. The elicitor bound to CM-Sephadex but not to DEAE-Sephadex; it was stable to heat (10 minutes at 100°C), HCl (0.01 normal), NaOH (0.01 normal), and NaIO4 (0.02 molar), sensitive to pronase and protease (from Bacillus polymyxa) but not to other proteases such as α-chymotrypsin and trypsin. After electrophoresis of partially purified elicitor preparations under low pH conditions, the necrosis-inducing activity was association with a peptide with an apparent molecular weight of 5500. Races 0, 4, 5, 2.4, and 2.4.5 but not race 2.4.5.9 produced this elicitor in high yields. The elicitor is probably a product of avirulence gene A9 which is present in all races except in race 2.4.5.9 and induces necrosis in cultivars carrying resistance gene Cf9.  相似文献

It may be that land-races of sorghum (Sorghum sp.) and millet[Pennisetum americanum (L.) Leeke] which evolved along geographicalgradients of rainfall in Africa and India, differ in their droughtresistance. Any physiological attributes found to be correlatedwith low rainfall might be important and effective characteristicsfor crop production in dry regions. Twenty land-races were chosen which evolved along geographicalgradients of rainfall, seven millets from India, six sorghumsfrom Mali, and seven sorghums from the Sudan. Races were evaluatedfor their growth potential and plant water relations under hydroponicsconditions in a growth chamber. A water stress treatment wasimposed by adding polyethylene glycol-8000 to the nutrient solution,giving a solute water potential of -0.5 MPa, compared with acontrol solution at 003 MPa. Drought resistance, in terms of relatively less growth inhibitionunder stress, was higher in races from dry regions than in racesfrom humid regions. Of all the physiological variables measured[carbon exchange rate, (CER), transpiration, transpiration ratio(CER/transpiration), leaf diffusive resistance, leaf water potentialand osmotic adjustment], only osmotic adjustment under stresswas generally correlated with average rainfall at each race'sorigin, indicating greater osmotic adjustment in land-racesfrom drier regions. Races with a greater capacity for osmoticadjustment were characterized by smaller plants with high ratesof transpiration and low rates of leaf senescence under stress. The carbon exchange rate per unit leaf area increased as liveleaf area decreased under stress due to leaf senescence. Thus,drought resistant races under stress tended to have lower CERper unit live leaf area (but not per plant) than susceptibleraces. Transpiration ratios under stress were lower in resistantthan in susceptible races, mainly because resistant races hadhigher transpiration. The results for the measured variables showed a general trendfor greater drought resistance in sorghum than in millet, indicatingthat the commonly observed adapation of the millets to dry environmentsmay be due to other factors, such as drought escape or heattolerance. The greenbug aphid, Schizaphis graminum (Rondani) was introduced into the United States in the late 1880s, and quickly was established as a pest of wheat, oat, and barley. Sorghum was also a host, but it was not until 1968 that greenbug became a serious pest of it as well. The most effective control method is the planting of resistant varieties; however, the occurrence of greenbug biotypes has hampered the development and use of plant resistance as a management technique. Until the 1990s, the evolutionary status of greenbug biotypes was obscure. Four mtDNA cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) haplotypes were previously identified, suggesting that S. graminum sensu lato was comprised of host-adapted races. To elucidate the current evolutionary and taxonomic status of the greenbug and its biotypes, two nuclear genes and introns were sequenced; cytochrome c (CytC) and elongation factor 1-α (EF1-α). Phylogenetic analysis of CytC sequences were in complete agreement with COI sequences and demonstrated three distinct evolutionary lineages in S. graminum. EF1-α DNA sequences were in partial agreement with COI and CytC sequences, and demonstrated two distinct evolutionary lineages. Host-adapted races in greenbug are sympatric and appear reproductively isolated. Agricultural biotypes in S. graminum likely arose by genetic recombination via meiosis during sexual reproduction within host-races. The 1968 greenbug outbreak on sorghum was the result of the introduction of a host race adapted to sorghum, and not selection by host resistance genes in crops.  相似文献

Thirteen soybean plant introduction (PI) lines, selected for their apparent susceptibility to Heterodera glycines, were compared with cultivar Lee 74 as hosts of H. glycines races 1, 2, 3, and 4. Race 3 produced the highest average number of females of the four races. Compared to Lee 74, more (P = 0.05) females of H. glycines race 1 were extracted from eI 274420, PI 274423, and PI 317333; PI 86457 had more females of H. glycines race 2; and PI 86443, PI 86457, PI 261467, PI 274420, PI 274421, and PI 274423 had more females of H. glycines race 3. Similar numbers of females of H. glycines race 4 developed on all of the soybean lines and Lee 74. PI 274421, PI 274420, or PI 196159 could provide a more or equally susceptible host for H. glycines races 1, 2, 3, and 4 than Lee 74. One of these three lines could be substituted for Lee as the standard susceptible cultivar in the race determination test.  相似文献

Summary Immature zygotic embryo has been the widely used explant source to develop embryogenic callus lines, cell suspensions and protoplasts for transformation of cereal crops including maize, wheat, rice, oat, barley, sorghum, and millet. However, the lack of competence of immature embryos in certain elite lines is still a barrier to rontine production of transgenic cereal crops in certain commercial cultivars. In addition, a great deal of effort is required to produce immature embryos, manipulate cultures, of immature embryos or their cell suspensions, and cryoperserve cultures for further use. In addition, undifferentiated cells may have reduced regenerability after a few months, of in vitro culture. Alternative explants and regeneration systems for efficient transformation of cereal crops are needed to avoid or reduce the above limitations. During the past decade, scientists have successfully manipulated the shoot apical meristerms from seedlings of maize oat, sorghum, millet, wheat, and barley in an effort to develop a less genetype-dependent and efficient cereal regneration system that can be maintained in vitro for long pertiods of time without the need for cryopreservation. Furthermore, apical mesistem regeneration systems were used to stably transform maize, wheat, rice, oat, barley, sorghum, and millet.  相似文献

Abstract Races 1 and 400 of Melampsosau bni the causal agent of flax [Lmum usitatissimum]), were crossed and the resulting F2 progeny evaluated on near-isogcnic fiax lines. The infection type of the parental cultures, the F12 and the segregating f2 progeny were used to evaluate the inheritance of pathogenicity. Races 1 and 400 as well as the F2 and all the F2 progeny were avirulent on lines N and P4 genes. This indicated both races to be homozygous avirulent. The F2 and all the F2 progeny were virulent on lines containing L9, M1, M4, and P. This indicated the F to be homuzygous for virulence at these loci. Segregation ratios of the F2 cultures fit monogenic ratios on lines with host genes K. L2, L5, L6, L7, L11, M, M2, M3, N1, P1, P2, and P3. Race 1 was avirulent, race 400 virulent and tht F, avirulent on these lines. Several linkage groups were indicated including close linkage at Ap1, Ap2 and Ap3. Segregation on lines L, L3, M5, M6 and cultivars Flor, Dufferin, Linott, and Wishek fit a digenic model. The infection tvpes of the parents, the F1 and the F2, segregations could usually be explained by classical gene-for-gene interactions. Possible exceptions were segregations on L4, L8 and N2 which did not fit a 3: 1 ratio but did fit a 9: 7 ratio. Segregation on L 10 fit a 7: 9 ratio but line L10 may be temperature sensitive. Segregation on L1 indicated a single dominant gene for pathogenicity.  相似文献
