The characteristics of shock waves in a relativistic plasma in the presence of nonisothermal electrons and nonisothermal negative ions is investigated by deriving the evolution equation in terms of a modified 3D Burgers equation, or trapped 3D Burgers equation. The solution of this equation is examined analytically to study the salient characteristics of shock waves in such plasma. The nonlinear coefficient is found to have the lowest (highest) value when the negative ions move toward thermal equilibrium with a dip-shaped electron distribution (when both electrons and negative ions follow a dip-shaped distribution) for a particular value of relativistic factor, and it remains in an intermediate state when both electrons and negative ions follow a flat-topped distribution. On the other hand, the dissipative coefficient is found to decrease (increase) with increasing relativistic parameter (viscous parameter). A profound effect of the trapped state of both electrons and negative ions and the temperature ratio between positive ions and electrons (negative ions and electrons) on the structure of the shock wave is also seen. However, it has been noticed that the trapped parameter of electrons has a dominating control over the shock potential profile than the trapped parameter of negative ions.  相似文献

The expansion of a slab of a three-component collisionless plasma with negative ions into vacuum is studied by particle-in-cell numerical simulations. It is found that, when the ion temperatures are low in comparison with the electron temperature, the expansion process goes through several characteristic stages. The breaking phenomenon, the onset of multistream motion, and the development of instability are described.  相似文献

A gas-dynamic model is used to study the conditions for the existence of large-amplitude ion acoustic solitons in a plasma with negative ions. It is shown that the limiting Mach number—the upper boundary of the region of existence of compression solitons—depends nonmonotonically on the temperature of the positive ions. The result is that, for certain fixed densities of the negative ions, there are one or two temperature boundaries between the regions where solitons can and cannot exist. It is found that, for rarefaction solitons, it is fundamentally important to take into account electron inertia and that the Mach number of such solitary waves is restricted not by the complete decompression of electrons within the wave (as thought previously), but by the fact that the electrons at the center of the wave reach the acoustic speed, above which the thermal-pressure-induced action cannot be transferred back to the electron flow and smooth continuous solutions are impossible.  相似文献

The propagation of periodic ion-acoustic waves in plasma with two-temperature electrons and cold ions is analyzed. The equations for the wave potential are derived in the first- and second-orders of the perturbation theory, and their nonsecular periodic solutions are obtained. The average nonlinear ion flux is determined, and its properties are studied as functions of the ratios between the densities and temperatures of the cold and hot electron components. The conditions are analyzed under which the ion flux is co- or counter-directed to the wave propagation direction. For the case in which, depending on the plasma parameters, the ion flux at a given wave amplitude can be either positive or negative, the domains of existence of positive and negative ion fluxes in the “temperature ratio-density ratio” plane are determined.  相似文献

The minimal sufficient set of plasma parameters is presented to describe the dispersion properties of electron whistler waves (helicons) in a wide frequency range above the ion cutoff frequency, provided that the wave frequency is significantly lower than the electron plasma frequency. When the gyrofrequency of the lightest ions is much higher than those of heavier ions, it is sufficient to know the relative content of the lightest ions, the highest ion cutoff frequency, the lower hybrid resonance frequency, and the electron gyro- and plasma frequencies. In this case, the frequency of electron whistler waves is determined by the upper root of the biquadratic equation derived, whereas the lower root corresponds to a resonant mode with its refractive index increasing when the frequency tends toward the highest ion gyrofrequency from below. The developed approach is also efficient in plasmas containing a substantial amount of negative ions and/or heavy dust particulates. The accuracy of the approximate solution of the total cold plasma dispersion relation is illustrated graphically.  相似文献

The process of compensation of the space charge of a negative ion beam propagating through a neutral gas is investigated numerically. A comparison of the results obtained with experimental data unambiguously proves that, at high gas pressures, when the beam space charge is overcompensated, the electric field within the beam is determined by Coulomb collisions of the beam ions with plasma electrons. At low pressures, when the space charge is undercompensated, the field within the beam is determined by the dynamic processes related to oscillations of the beam current.  相似文献

 The physical effects of negative air ions on humans were determined in an experimental sauna room equipped with an ionizer. Thirteen healthy persons took a wet sauna bath (dry bulb temperature 42° C, relative humidity 100%, 10 min exposure) with or without negative air ions. The subjects were not told when they were being exposed to negative air ions. There were no differences in the moods of these persons or changes in their blood pressures between the two saunas. The surface temperatures of the foreheads, hands, and legs in the sauna with negative ions were significantly higher than those in the sauna without ions. The pulse rates and sweat produced in the sauna with ions were singificantly higher than those in the sauna without ions. The formation and propagation of small-amplitude heavy-ion-acoustic (HIA) solitary waves and double layers in an unmagnetized collisionless multicomponent plasma system consisting of superthermal electrons, Boltzmann distributed light ions, and adiabatic positively charged inertial heavy ions are theoretically investigated. The reductive perturbation technique is employed to derive the modified Korteweg–de Vries (mKdV) and standard Gardner (SG) equations. The solitary wave (SW) solution of mKdV and SG equations, as well as double layers (DLs) solution of SG equation, is studied for analysis of higher order nonlinearity. It is found that the plasma system under consideration supports positive and negative potential Gardner solitons, but only positive potential mKdV solitons. In addition, it is shown that, the basic properties of HIA mKdV and Gardner solitons and DLs (viz. polarity, amplitude, width, and phase speed) are incomparably influenced by the adiabaticity effect of heavy ions and the superthermality effect of electrons. The relevance of the present findings to the system of space plasmas, as well as to the system of researchers interest, is specified.  相似文献

A multifluid MHD model is applied to study the magnetic field dynamics in a dusty plasma. The motion of plasma electrons and ions is treated against the background of arbitrarily charged, immobile dust grains. When the dust density gradient is nonzero and when the inertia of the ions and electrons and the dissipation from their collisions with dust grains are neglected, we are dealing with a nonlinear convective penetration of the magnetic field into the plasma. When the dust density is uniform, the magnetic field dynamics is described by the nonlinear diffusion equations. The limiting cases of diffusion equations are analyzed for different parameter values of the problem (i.e., different rates of the collisions of ions and electrons with the dust grains and different ratios between the concentrations of the plasma components), and some of their solutions (including self-similar ones) are found. The results obtained can also be useful for research in solid-state physics, in which case the electrons and holes in a semiconductor may be analogues of plasma electrons and ions and the role of dust grains may be played by the crystal lattice and impurity atoms.  相似文献

The results of measurements of the energy distribution function of ions escaping from a beam-plasma discharge are compared with the data from probe measurements in the discharge region. It is shown that, on the discharge axis, there is a region with a higher degree of ionization, whose position depends on the external parameters, in particular, on the gas pressure. The mean energy of the ions that leave the plasma from the outside of this region is determined by the potential of the plasma column. Inside the region with a higher degree of ionization, there is an additional mechanism for ion acceleration; as a result, the energy of the ions that leave the plasma from this region is higher than the energy of the electrostatically accelerated ions by a factor of 1.5 to 5. The results obtained show promise for creating a plasma-processing reactor with controlled ion parameters for the purposes of treating materials for microelectronics.  相似文献

An ultrasensitive method capable of detection and quantification of beta-phenylethylamine in 1 ml of human plasma has been developed using gas chromatography/electron capture negative ion mass spectrometry. Phenylethylamine and tetra-deutero phenylethylamine internal standard in plasma were acetylated, extracted into organic solvent and then further acylated with pentafluorobenzoyl chloride. The N-acetyl-N-pentafluorobenzoyl-phenylethylamines were detected by high-resolution single ion monitoring of the molecular ions. Normal plasma levels were found to be 41.5 +/- 10.7 pg ml-1, in accordance with results of a previous high-performance liquid chromatographic method.  相似文献

The basic properties of heavy-ion-acoustic (HIA) waves have been investigated in a collisionless plasma system which is supposed to be composed of nonthermal electrons, Boltzmann distributed light ions, and adiabatic positively charged inertial heavy ions. The Kortewg-de Vries and Burgers equations are derived in nonplanar (cylindrical and spherical) geometry by employing the standard reductive perturbation method for studying the basic features (viz. amplitude, phase speed, etc.) of HIA solitary and shock waves, which are associated with either positive or negative potential. It is found that the effects of nonplanar geometry, adiabaticity of positively charged inertial heavy ions, the presence of nonthermal (Cairns distributed) electrons, and number densities of the plasma components significantly modify the basic features of nonplanar HIA waves. It has been observed that the properties of solitary and shock waves associated with HIA waves in a nonplanar geometry differ from those in a planar geometry. The implications of our results may be helpful in understanding the electrostatic perturbations in various laboratory and astrophysical plasma environments.  相似文献

A method for calculating the effective charge of fast ions decelerated in a hot dense plasma is proposed. The method is based on the known experimental dependence of the effective charge of an ion decelerated in cold matter on its velocity. The ion velocity in this dependence is replaced with the velocity of an ion relative to plasma electrons, averaged over the Fermi-Dirac distribution. Using results of numerical calculations performed in a wide range of plasma parameters (from a Maxwellian plasma to a fully degenerate one), a scale-invariant representation of the effective charge of a decelerating ion as a function of its initial velocity and the plasma temperature and density is obtained. An analytical formula fitting the calculated results to within 5% is derived. The obtained dependences of the effective charge are incorporated in the model describing deceleration of fast ions in plasma. Using this model, the stopping powers of krypton and lead ions in a relatively cold rarefied gas-discharge plasma and hot ICF plasma are calculated. The results of calculations are shown to agree satisfactorily with available experimental data.  相似文献

The problem of screening of the charge acquired by a dust grain in a two-temperature plasma is considered. The influence of the trapped ions on the screening effect and on the frictional force exerted on a dust grain by an ion flow is investigated. It is shown that the ions trapped by a grain radically reduce the frictional force in the ion flow because their distribution is determined by the temperature of the cold buffer gas. The mechanism for the onset of the reactive force that accelerates the grain in the direction opposite to that of the flow is explained. It is based on the momentum transfer from the flow of the ions that are additionally accelerated in the grain field to the atoms of the buffer gas. As a result, the momentum carried by the charge-exchange atoms out of the “ions + grain” system exceeds the momentum they have carried into the system; this gives rise to a reactive force directed opposite to the ion flow (the negative frictional force). The magnitude of the reactive force is estimated.  相似文献

Results are presented from experimental studies of a pulsed source of soft X-ray (SXR) emission with photon energies in the range of 0.4–1 keV and an output energy of 2–10 kJ. SXR pulses with a duration of 10–15 μs were generated in collisions of two plasma flows propagating toward one another in a longitudinal magnetic field. The plasma flows with velocities of (2–4) × 107 cm/s and energy contents of 70–100 kJ were produced by two electrodynamic coaxial accelerators with pulsed gas injection. Nitrogen and neon, as well as their mixtures with deuterium, were used as working gases. The diagnostic equipment is described, and the experimental results obtained under different operating conditions are discussed. In particular, X-ray spectroscopy was used to study the high-temperature plasma produced in a collision of two plasma flows. The observed intensities of spectral lines are compared with the results of detailed kinetic calculations performed in a steady-state approximation. The calculations of the nitrogen and neon kinetics have shown that the electron temperature of a nitrogen plasma can be most conveniently determined from the intensity ratio of the resonance lines of He- and H-like nitrogen ions, while that of a neon plasma, from the intensity ratio between the resonance line of He-like Ne IX ions and the 3p?2s line of Li-like Ne VIII ions. In the experiments with plasma flows containing nitrogen ions, the electron temperature was found to be ≈120 eV, whereas in the experiments with plasma flows containing neon ions, it was 160–170 eV.  相似文献
