Although not native to Germany, fallow deer (Dama dama) are commonly found today, but their origin as well as the genetic structure of the founding members is still unclear. In order to address these aspects, we sequenced ~400 bp of the mitochondrial d-loop of 365 animals from 22 locations in nine German Federal States. Nine new haplotypes were detected and archived in GenBank. Our data produced evidence for a Turkish origin of the German founders. However, German fallow deer populations have complex patterns of mtDNA variation. In particular, three distinct clusters were identified: Schleswig-Holstein, Brandenburg/Hesse/Rhineland and Saxony/lower Saxony/Mecklenburg/Westphalia/Anhalt. Signatures of recent demographic expansions were found for the latter two. An overall pattern of reduced genetic variation was therefore accompanied by a relatively strong genetic structure, as highlighted by an overall Phict value of 0.74 (P < 0.001).  相似文献

We assessed genetic variation in a total of 22 populations of the tree species Cordia africana Lam. in Ethiopia and analyzed the country-wide impact of population history, forest disturbance and alteration of land use on extant intraspecific diversity. Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphisms (AFLPs) and chloroplast microsatellite markers were investigated. The analyses of the AFLP data revealed high diversity in all investigated populations: the percentage of polymorphic loci (PPL) ranged from 62.2% to 92.2% and Nei's gene diversity from 0.220 to 0.320 within the populations. The mean PPL and the mean diversity within populations were 85.7% and 0.287, respectively. The analysis of molecular variance revealed a moderate level of differentiation (ΦST = 0.07, p < 0.001) among the populations. The Mantel test proved a significant but low correlation (r = 0.31, p < 0.001) between the geographic distance and the genetic differentiation matrices. Only three different cpDNA haplotypes were observed; no more than two haplotypes were found in any population. The dominant haplotype with an overall frequency of 81% was observed in all populations. The level of differentiation among the populations was comparatively low at chloroplast DNA (G ST = 0.18, R ST, N ST = 0.22). The observed patterns and levels of genetic variation within and among the populations indicate that efficient gene flow via pollen and seed is likely to be the main factor contributing to the maintenance of genetic diversity in natural and disturbed conditions.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to assess the degree of genetic variation and divergence among six populations of Calomys hummelincki, a phyllotine rodent distributed in northern South America. With this information we will try to evaluate the two hypotheses of possible colonization and differentiation of this group of rodents postulated by Baskin and Reig. We studied 34 loci by electrophoretic analysis: 21 were monomorphic for all populations and 13 were polymorphic in at least one population, being P 1% = 21.6% the mean value for all populations. The mean value of heterozygosity per locus was H = 0.075. Low values of genetic distance were observed among populations of the Llanos region (0.001 < D < 0.006). There was a larger genetic distance (D = 0.024) between the population from Isiro, in the northwestern semiarid region, and those from the Llanos region. The insular population of Aruba displayed the lowest value of genetic distance with the population from Isiro (D = 0.014). The specimens from Sipao, on the right side of the Orinoco river, displayed the highest values of genetic distances in comparison with other populations of C. hummelincki (0.070 < D < 0.095). The relatively high differentiation was due to the fixation of new alleles, not found in other populations of C. hummelincki, at loci Idh-1 and Est-2. F-statistics and Nm values indicated reduced gene flow among the populations sampled. Despite the limited data, the results seem to support Reig's hypothesis about south to north colonization of genus Calomys in South America. Identifying factors that cause genetic differentiation in plant populations and the spatial scale at which genetic structuring can be detected will help to understand plant population dynamics and identify conservation units. In this study, we determined the genetic structure and diversity of Pterocarpus officinalis, a widespread tropical wetland tree, at three spatial scales: (1) drainage basin “watershed” (<10 km), (2) within Puerto Rico (<100 km), and (3) Caribbean-wide (>1000 km) using AFLP. At all three spatial scales, most of the genetic variation occurred within populations, but as the spatial scale increased from the watershed to the Caribbean region, there was an increase in the among population variation (ΦST=0.19 to ΦST=0.53). At the watershed scale, there was no significant differentiation (P=0.77) among populations in the different watersheds, although there was some evidence that montane and coastal populations differed (P<0.01). At the island scale, there was significant differentiation (P<0.001) among four populations in Puerto Rico. At the regional scale (>1000 km), we found significant differentiation (P<0.001) between island and continental populations in the Caribbean region, which we attributed to factors associated with the colonization history of P. officinalis in the Neotropics. Given that genetic structure can occur from local to regional spatial scales, it is critical that conservation recommendations be based on genetic information collected at the appropriate spatial scale.  相似文献

Elongate loach (Leptobotia elongata (Bleeker)), an endemic fish species to China, is a famous ornamental freshwater fish. Here, a comparative study of mtDNA control region (D-loop) (835 bp) sequences was performed to analyze its wild population structure and evaluate the genetic diversity for 110 individuals from five locations in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, China. A total of 49 polymorphic sites and 45 haplotypes yielded high haplotype diversity (h = 0.952), but low nucleotide diversity (π = 0.00454) as that of many fish species. Sequence divergences between haplotypes ranged from 0.0033 ± 0.0011 to 0.0050 ± 0.0012 in intra-groups, and from 0.0037 ± 0.0.0011 to 0.0050 ± 0.0012 between groups. Significant values of Tajima’s D (−1.86383, P < 0.01) and Fu’s F S (−25.93, P < 0.01), together with uni-modal mismatch distribution, indicated a recent genetic bottleneck or population expansion of the species. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) indicated a small amount of differentiation among groups (1.7%); most of the total variation occurred within groups (98.3%). Also, there was no significant population structure (F ST = 0.017, P > 0.05), and estimates of gene flows among groups were extremely high (Nm = 28.88), suggesting low genetic divergence between populations in the species. The lack of genetic differentiation among groups is most likely due to the combined gene flow from the downstream movement of eggs and larvae with currents and the upstream or downstream migration of adults throughout the distribution. These groups of L. elongata distributed in upper reaches of the Yangtze River should be considered as a single management unit.  相似文献

High levels of genetic variation enable species to adapt to changing environments and provide plant breeders with the raw materials necessary for artificial selection. In the present study, six AFLP primer pairs were used to assess the genetic diversity of Desmodium triflorum (L.) DC. from 12 populations in South China. A high percentage of polymorphic loci (P = 76.16%) and high total gene diversity (H T = 0.310) were found, indicating that the genetic diversity of D. triflorum is high at the species level. Genetic diversity was also relatively high at the population level (P = 55.85%, H e = 0.230). The coefficient of gene differentiation among populations (G ST) was 0.255, indicating that while most genetic diversity resided within populations, there was also considerable differentiation among populations. AMOVA also indicated 24.29% of the total variation to be partitioned among populations (ΦST = 0.243). UPGMA clustering analysis based on genetic distances showed that the 12 populations could be separated into three subgroups: an eastern, a western, and a central-southern subgroup. However, a Mantel test revealed no significant correlation (r = 0.286, p = 0.983) between the geographical distances and genetic distances separating these populations; mountain barriers to gene flow and human disturbance may have confounded these correlations. The present study has provided some fundamental genetic data that will be of use in the exploitation of D. triflorum.  相似文献

Phylogeographic and population genetic studies using sequence information are frequently used to infer species boundaries and history; and to assess hybridization and population level processes. In this study, partial mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) control region (423 bp) and cytochrome b sequences (666 bp) of Oryx beisa sampled from five isolated localities in its entire current range in Africa were analyzed to investigate the extent of genetic variation and differentiation between populations. We observed high nucleotide diversity at the control region in the total sample (6.3%) but within populations, it varied considerably ranging from 1.6% to 8.1%. Population pairwise genetic differentiation was generally significantly high (ranging from F ST = 0.15, P<0.01 to F ST = 0.54, P<0.001). In the total sample, 29 and 12 haplotypes were observed in the control region and the cytochrome b data sets respectively. For both data sets, the haplotypes cluster into three distinct clades (sequence divergence ranged from 6.0%–12.9% to 0.8%–1.0% for the control region and cytochrome b sequences, respectively) that do not correspond to sampling locations. Two of these clades are found in the same localities (Samburu and Marsabit), which represent the O.beisa beisa subspecies, whereas the last clade represents the fringe-eared oryx (O. beisa callotis). We interpret these findings in terms of an ancient hybridization and introgression between two formerly isolated taxa of Oryx beisa.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to explore cytogenetic variation and the role of chromosomal change on local adaptation and genetic differentiation of Chironomus circumdatus Kieffer from Thailand. A total of 1,505 larvae from 24 populations were examined cytologically. Twelve chromosomal inversions were found and most of these (9 of 12) were rare inversions. All populations were in Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium. Significant association (P < 0.001) between the A2 and B5 inversions was detected in one population. Population genetic structure analysis indicated significant genetic differentiation between populations (F ST = 0.037, P < 0.001). Geographic distance was the principal factor limiting gene flow between populations. Nei’s modified genetic distance (D A) between populations ranged from 0.001 to 0.011 with an average of 0.003. An UPGMA population phenogram depicting relationship between populations based on D A values revealed three groups of populations, group I, II and III each characterized by different inversions/inversion frequencies. Significant correlation of inversion C3 and water temperature suggested that this inversion might have a role to play on adaptation to high temperature habitat. However, if detection of significant population subdivision and relationship between genetic and geographic distance are taken into account, relationship between C3 and water temperature will also be due to the effect of migration/drift alone without the effect of selection.  相似文献

The genetic diversity and relationships of six representative cultivars and six geographically isolated wild populations of Saccharina japonica along the northwest coasts of the Pacific Ocean were investigated using AFLP markers. A total of 547 bands were generated across all samples by ten primer combinations. At the cultivar or population level, the percentage of polymorphic loci (P), gene diversity (H), and Shannon’s information index (I) was highest in Dalian population (P 59.05%; H 0.2057; I 0.3062) and lowest in Lianjiang cultivar (P 9.87%; H 0.0331; I 0.0497). At the species level, P, H, and I were 85.01%, 0.1948, and 0.3096, respectively. Unique bands were detected in all the six wild populations, with Dalian being the most. In comparison, only Yanza cultivar possessed one unique band. The G ST value was 0.6226 and the gene flow (N m ) was 0.1515, indicating strong genetic differentiation among cultivars and populations. Two UMPGA dendrograms were constructed based on the Dice similarity coefficients among individuals and on genetic distances among cultivars and populations, which generally revealed three major clades corresponding to three countries. Analysis of molecular variance revealed that a larger proportion (60.21%) of the total genetic variation was attributable to differences among cultivars and populations. The Mantel test suggested that genetic differentiation was positively correlated with geographic distance (r = 0.7962, P = 0.011) in the six wild populations, agreeing with the isolation by distance model. On the whole, low to moderate genetic diversity within cultivars and populations (except Dalian population) and high genetic differentiation among cultivars and populations were detected.  相似文献

The spatial and temporal genetic structure of brown trout populations from three small tributaries of Lake Hald, Denmark, was studied using analysis of variation at eight microsatellite loci. From two of the populations temporal samples were available, separated by up to 13 years (3.7 generations). Significant genetic differentiation was observed among all samples, however, hierarchical analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) showed that differentiation among populations accounted for a non-significant amount of the genetic differentiation, whereas differentiation among temporal samples within populations was highly significant (0.0244, P<0.001). Estimates of effective population size (N e) using a maximum-likelihood based implementation of the temporal method, yielded small values (N e ranging from 33 to 79). When a model was applied that allows for migration among populations, N e estimates were even lower (24–54), and migration rates were suggested to be high (0.13–0.36). All samples displayed a clear signal of a recent bottleneck, probably stemming from a period of unfavourable conditions due to organic pollution in the 1970–1980’s. By comparison to other estimates of N e in brown trout, Lake Hald trout represent a system of small populations linked by extensive gene flow, whereas other populations in larger rivers exhibit much higher N e values and experience lower levels of immigration. We suggest that management considerations for systems like Lake Hald brown trout should focus both on a regional scale and at the level of individual populations, as the future persistence of populations depends both on maintaining individual populations and ensuring sufficient migration links among these populations.  相似文献

The Alexander Archipelago wolf (Canis lupus ligoni) is unique to southeast Alaska, occurring on islands south of Frederick Sound and along the mainland between Dixon Entrance and Yakutat Bay. Sitka black-tailed deer (Odocoileus hemionus sitkensis) are an important prey species for wolves across the southern part of the region. Spawning salmon (Onchorynchus sp.) are seasonally available but their presence in wolf diets has not previously been quantified. We examined the range of bone collagen δ13C and δ15N values for wolves throughout southeast (n = 163) and interior (n = 50) Alaska and used a dual-isotope mixing model to determine the relative contribution of salmon-derived marine protein in the diet. Southeast Alaska wolves consumed significantly more salmon (mean ± SE: 18.3 ± 1.2%) than did wolves from interior Alaska (9.1 ± 0.6%, P<0.001). Wolves on the southeast Alaska mainland appeared to have higher marine isotopic signatures than island wolves, although this difference was not significant. Variation among individual wolf diets was higher for southeast than for interior Alaska wolves, and variation was highest in coastal mainland wolf diets (P<0.001). Marine resources may augment the diet of southeast Alaska wolves during seasonal or annual fluctuations in the availability of deer, particularly in those areas on the mainland where densities of terrestrial ungulates are relatively low. Selection and genetic drift can create genetic differences between populations. Cytokines and chemokines play an important role in both hematopoietic development and the inflammatory response. We compared the genotype frequencies of 45 SNPs in 30 cytokine and chemokine genes in two healthy Chinese populations and one Caucasian population. Several SNPs in IL4 had substantial genetic differentiation between the Chinese and Caucasian populations (F ST ~0.40), and displayed a strikingly different haplotype distribution. To further characterize common genetic variation in worldwide populations at the IL4 locus, we genotyped 9 SNPs at the IL4 gene in the Human Diversity Panel’s (N = 1056) individuals from 52 world geographic regions. We observed low haplotype diversity, yet strikingly different haplotype frequencies between non-African populations, which may indicate different selective pressures on the IL4 gene in different parts of the world. SNPs in CSF2, IL6, IL10, CTLA4, and CX3CR1 showed moderate genetic differentiation between the Chinese and Caucasian populations (0.15 < F ST < 0.25). These results suggest that there is substantial genetic diversity in immune genes and exploration of SNP associations with immune-related diseases that vary in incidence across these two populations may be warranted.  相似文献

ADAM33, a member of the ADAM (a disintegrin and metalloprotease) gene family, is an asthma susceptibility gene originally identified by positional cloning. In the present study, we investigated the possible association of five single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the ADAM33 (rs511898, rs528557, rs44707, rs597980 and rs2787094) with adult-onset asthma in an Indian population. The study included 175 patients with mild intermittent (n = 44), mild persistent (n = 108) or moderate persistent (n = 23) subgroups of asthma, and 253 nonasthmatic control individuals. SNPs were genotyped with the help of restriction fragment length polymorphism polymerase chain reaction (RFLP-PCR) method, and data were analysed using chi-square test and logistic regression model. Bonferroni’s correction for multiple comparisons was applied for each hypothesis. Genotypes and allele frequencies of SNPs rs511898 and rs528557 were significantly associated with adult-onset asthma (P = 0.010-<0.001). A significant association of the homozygous mutant genotype and mutant alleles of SNPs rs2787094, rs44707 and rs597980 with the asthma was also observed (P = 0.020-<0.001). A positive association between asthma and haplotypes AGCCT, GGCCT, AGACT, GCAGT, GGACT, ACCCC and AGACC were also found (P = 0.036-<0.001, OR = 2.07–8.49). Haplotypes AGCGT, GCAGC, ACAGC, ACAGT, GGAGC and GGCGT appear to protect against asthma (P = 0.013-<0.0001, OR = 0.34–0.10). Our data suggest that ADAM33 gene polymorphisms serve as genetic risk factors for asthma in Indian adult population.  相似文献

Genetic variation of nuclear ribosomal ITS (nrITS) and chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) regions was investigated in Brasenia schreberi (Cabombaceae) to assess the population structure and to infer the evolutionary relationship among 12 populations distributed in South Korea. The combined sequence of the two regions was aligned to 2,069 bp, of which 28 sites were variable. In total, 20 genotypes were identified from 240 individuals of B. schreberi. Genotype diversity (Gd) and nucleotide diversity (Pi) on Jeju Island (Gd = 0.2511, Pi = 0.00012) were higher than those of the mainland of South Korea (Gd = 0.1358, Pi = 0.00005). The relatively low level of genetic variation of the mainland populations is associated with its higher genetic differentiation (G ST = 0.095 on mainland and 0.039 on Jeju Island) and human activities. Minimum spanning network analysis demonstrated that the investigated populations of B. schreberi were subdivided into two geographical groups: the mainland of South Korea and Jeju Island. In addition, analysis of molecular variation showed that a large proportion (73.55%) of genetic differentiation existed between the two regions. These results strongly suggest the presence of significant barriers to gene flow between regions. Thus, the management unit for B. schreberi should be carefully designed to avoid the potential risk that can results from the admixture of individuals from the mainland and Jeju Island regions.  相似文献

The FRUITFULL (FUL) and SHATTERPROOF (SHP) genes are involved in regulating fruit development and dehiscence in Arabidopsis. We tested the hypothesis that this class of genes are also involved in regulating the development of fleshy fruits, by exploring genetic and phenotypic variation within the apple (Malus domestica) gene pool. We isolated and characterised the genomic sequences of two candidate orthologous FUL-like genes, MdMADS2.1 and MdMADS2.2. These were mapped using the reference population ‘Prima x Fiesta’ to loci on Malus linkage groups LG14 and LG06, respectively. An additional MADS-box gene, MdMADS14, shares high amino acid identity with the Arabidopsis SHATTERPROOF1/2 genes and was mapped to Malus linkage group LG09. Association analysis between quantitative fruit flesh firmness estimates of ‘Prima x Fiesta’ progeny and the MdMADS2.1, MdMADS2.2 and MdMADS14 loci was carried out using a mixed model analysis of variance. This revealed a significant association (P < 0.01) between MdMADS2.1 and fruit flesh firmness. Further evidence for the association between MdMADS2.1 and fruit flesh firmness was obtained using a case–control population-based genetic association approach. For this, a polymorphic repeat, (AT)n, in the 3′ UTR of MdMADS2.1 was used as a locus-specific marker to screen 168 apple accessions for which historical assessments of fruit texture attributes were available. This analysis revealed a significant association between the MdMADS2.1 and fruit flesh firmness at both allelic (χ 2 = 34, df = 9, P < 0.001) and genotypic (χ 2 = 57, df = 32, P < 0.01) levels.  相似文献

Available experimental data suggest that adiponectin and thyroid hormones have biological interaction in vivo. However, the effects of thyroid hormones on adipose adiponectin gene expression in thyroid dysfunction are unclear. We induced hyper- (HYPER) and hypothyroidism (HYPO) by daily administration of a 12 mg/l of levothyroxine and 250 mg/l of methimazole in drinking water of rats, respectively, for 42 days. The white adipose tissues and serum sample were taken on days 15, 28, 42 and also 2 weeks after treatment cessation. Analysis of adiponectin gene expression was performed by real-time PCR and 2−ΔΔct method. The levels of adipose tissue adiponectin mRNA in the HYPO rats were decreased during the 6-week treatment when compared to control rats (<0.05) and were increased significantly 2 weeks after HYPO cessation (P < 0.05). This decline in adiponectin gene expression occurred in parallel with a decrease in T3, T4, fT3 and fT4 concentrations (P < 0.05). In opposite to HYPO rats, adipose adiponectin gene expression was increased in HYPER rats during the 6-week treatment in parallel with an increase the thyroid hormones concentrations (P < 0.05), and its expression was decreased 2 weeks after HYPER cessation (P < 0.05). Adiponectin gene expression levels showed significant negative correlations with concentrations of LDL (HYPO; r = −0.806, P = 0.001 and HYPER; r = −0.749, P = 0.002), triglyceride (HYPO; r = −0.825, P = 0.001 and HYPER; r = −0.824, P = 0.001) and significant positive correlations with concentrations of glucose (HYPO; r = 0.674, P = 0.004 and HYPER; r = 0.866, P = 0.001) and HDL (HYPO; r = 0.755, P = 0.001 and HYPER; r = 0.839, P = 0.001). The current study provides evidence that adiponectin gene expression in adipose tissue is regulated by thyroid hormones at the translation level and that lipid and carbohydrate disturbances in a patient with thyroid dysfunction may be, in part, due to adiponectin gene expression changes.  相似文献

Climatic oscillations during the Quaternary strongly affected the distribution of warm-temperate tree species, which experienced local restrictions into ice-free areas and posterior expansions. To evaluate the impact of these range movements on the genetic structure of populations, we performed a phylogeographical analysis of the species Nothofagus obliqua with chloroplast DNA markers. A total of 27 populations covering the whole natural distribution range were analyzed using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Diversity (h T, h S), allelic richness (r g), and differentiation among populations for unordered (G ST) and ordered alleles (N ST) were calculated. The relationships among haplotypes were evaluated by the construction of a minimum spanning network. The spatial distribution of the genetic variation was analyzed through a Mantel test and with a nested analysis of molecular variance to differentiate between geographic regions. The screening of 11 non-coding regions allowed the identification of 14 haplotypes. A high genetic differentiation was detected (N ST = 0.875 and G ST = 0.824) with the existence of phylogeographic structure (p < 0.05). The distribution of the genetic variation was partially explained by the topography of the region when the populations were divided longitudinally into Coastal Mountains, Central Valley, and Andes Mountains (ϕ RT = 0.093, p = 0.001). In agreement with pollen records, our results support the hypothesis of Coastal refuges since the region harbors high diversity together with older and private haplotypes. Long-lasting persistence of some Coastal populations without contribution to re-colonization is proposed. Additional refuges are also postulated along the Andes and Longitudinal Valley. Survival in multiple glacial refuges is discussed together with the possible migratory routes.  相似文献

Araucaria angustifolia is an endangered tropical/subtropical coniferous of great interest for conservation due its economical, ecological, and social value. Only 3% of original Araucaria forests remain, which are generally confined to small forest fragments. Forest fragmentation can have serious consequences on genetic process in tree population, affecting long-term fitness and adaptability. To investigate the effects of forest fragmentation on genetic diversity and the structure of A. angustifolia populations, the genetic diversity of eight microsatellite loci was compared in four small fragmented populations (<22 ha), four tree groups (five to 11 trees) occurring in pastures and in three plots in a large continuous population. The clearest effect of fragmentation was the loss of rare alleles (p ≤ 0.05) in fragmented populations (19.4% to 47.2%) and intermediate frequency (0.05 < p ≤ 0.25) and rare alleles (p ≤ 0.05) in tree groups (19% to 86.1%) in comparison to continuous populations. Fragmented populations have significant higher fixation index ( [^(F)]\textIS = 0.121 \widehat{F}_{\text{IS}} = 0.121 , P < 0.05) than continuous populations ( [^(F)]\textIS = 0.083 \widehat{F}_{\text{IS}} = 0.083 , P < 0.05). High genetic differentiation was detected among tree groups ( [^(G)]\textST = 0.258 \widehat{G}_{{{\text{ST}}}}^{\prime } = 0.258 , P < 0.01) and low among fragments ( [^(G)]\textST = 0.031 \widehat{G}_{{{\text{ST}}}}^{\prime } = 0.031 , P < 0.05) and continuous populations ( [^(G)]\textST = 0.026 \widehat{G}_{{{\text{ST}}}}^{\prime } = 0.026 , P < 0.05), showing a significant bottleneck effect in tree groups. Evidence that forest fragments have experienced a recent bottleneck was confirmed in at least two studied fragments. The implications of the results for conservation of the fragmented A. angustifolia populations are discussed.  相似文献

We examined the extent of morphological alterations and the myosin heavy chain (MHC) distribution in the rat soleus muscle after a 4-week period of spontaneous recovery or retraining after hindlimb suspension (HS). Moreover, we tested the hypothesis that dantrolene sodium, which affects the flux of calcium over the sarcoplasmic reticulum membrane, was able to attenuate muscle damage. Three groups of rats were submitted to 3 weeks of HS, followed by either 4 weeks of unrestricted cage activity (HC, n = 7), or running training for the same period and were compared to age-matched animals (C, n = 8). Trained rats were treated with either placebo or dantrolene sodium (HTP, HTD, n = 8 each, respectively). Four weeks after HS recovery, the percentage of myofibres with internal nuclei (%in) was determined by histological staining with hematoxylin and eosin. %in was affected by the individual rat (P < 0.001), and was higher in the mid-belly region of the muscle (P < 0.05). Muscle damage, as estimated by %in, was more extensive in trained rats (i.e. HTP and HTD) than in HC animals (23% and 12%, respectively). Moreover, dantrolene sodium tended to exert a protective effect on training-induced muscle injury. A 12% increase in type I MHC was observed in both HTP and HTD rats, in comparison with group C animals (P < 0.001). The relative proportion of type-I MHC was inversely correlated with %in (r = −0.65, P < 0.001). Running recovery led to an increased citrate synthase activity in comparison with that of C or HC rats. In conclusion, the present findings demonstrate that running recovery from HS increases the incidence of muscle damage, and that dantrolene sodium administration has only limited protective effects against exercise-induced muscle injury. Some key aspects of the reproductive strategy of the brown trout (Salmo trutta fario L.) in the Yadong River, Tibet, including spawning season, age at sexual maturity, fecundity and egg size, have been studied. The majority of the samples were less than 215 mm and age ranged from 1 to 4 in both sexes, indicating that the majority of the fish were younger and the pressure by overfishing was high. The spawning periodicity was determined to be between the end of October and January, mainly in November and December. The ratio of male to female brown trout population (1.29:1 with P > 0.05) suggested no sex significant differences, although males were significantly more abundant than females in October (P < 0.0001) on monthly basis. Age and size of males and females at maturity was different and males matured earlier than females. Fecundity was markedly correlated with their body weight (P < 0.001, r = 0.9255), standard length (P < 0.01, r = 0.8879), and gonad weight (P < 0.001, r = 0.9366). The mean size of mature eggs in the spawning season was: 4.0 ± 0.45 mm and tended to increase along with the female spawners size (P < 0.001, r = 0.9641). Further researches about the brown trout population in the Yadong River should be conducted on issues such as artificial reproduction, culture, conservation, management, and restocking.  相似文献
