The oesophagus morphology of an omnivorous tilapiine fish is described. This organ is very short and is organized into a mucosa, a submucosa, a double-layered muscolaris and a serosa. The epithelium is stratified with columnar cells, but the most peculiar feature is the presence of many goblet cells that assure protection and lubrication. Taste buds are not present. 相似文献

Investigating the alimentary tract in several species of lizardfishes (Synodontidae, Teleostei) of the genera Saurida, Synodus and Trachinocephalus, from various sites of their distribution, revealed melanization of the tract wall. This phenomenon was observed in several species of the genus Saurida, but not in the other two genera. This melanization is caused by layers of melanosomes rich in melanin granules and deposited within the connective tissue of the submucosa, between the muscular wall and the muscularis submucosa. From this site this black submucosa extends into the folds of the mucosa. In S. tumbil and S. filamentosa, the entire alimentary tract is black, whereas in S. macrolepis only the stomach is partially or entirely black. This phenomenon and its possible importance are discussed. 相似文献

The phylogenetic relationships among gudgeons that represent most nominal taxa within Gobio gobio sensu lato were examined by mitochondrial and nuclear genome sequencing. The molecular analyses confirmed the separate generic status of Gobio as a monophyletic group and revealed 15 Eurasian lineages divided into two main clades, the Northern European and the Ponto-Caspian. The validity of eleven nominal taxa as distinct species was confirmed, gudgeons from the Volga River basin were described as a new species G. volgensis, and three revealed phylogenetic lineages were submitted for a comprehensive revision as "species-in-waiting". The species G. gobio showed a wide range extending from the British Isles to the Black Sea coast and overlapped the areas of several other species. Four pure lineages were detected in the middle Danube River basin. The Crimean Peninsula was found to be a region with the occurrence of individuals of hybrid origin. This region will require special investigation to define species participating in hybridization events, and to establish further steps for the conservation of endemic native gudgeon species. A simple diagnostic method, based on different lengths of the PCR products, called "S7indel diagnostics" is presented for further taxonomic investigations in the genus Gobio. 相似文献

Summary Morphological and morphometric characteristics of the alimentary tract in 22 species of carnivorous antarctic fishes were studied. It is shown that all of these species have similar, well-developed Y-shaped stomachs with generally thick (0.5–1.0 mm) walls. The relative stomach lengths are also similar, ranging from 9.8 to 22.2% of body length. Relative intestine lengths, a characteristic frequently used as an indicator of the kind of food eaten by a species, are also remarkably similar among most species (31 to 67%). Notothenia gibberifrons, a conspicuous benthos feeder, has a significantly longer intestine (91%), probably as an adaptation to the quantity of undigestible material (mud) incorporated with its faunal prey. These values fit within or below the limits (60–150$) of relative intestine length described in the literature for carnivorous fishes. The number of pyloric caecae is in general relatively low and fairly constant in each species. It is concluded that the morphological features studied could represent similar adaptations of these antarctic fishes to a similar carnivorous diet. 相似文献

Cranial development in larval Atlantic cod Gadus morhua was studied throughout ontogeny using specimens treated by staining and clearing, scanning electron microscopy and histology. Newly hatched cod larvae have closed mouths, no operculii, five well-developed branchial arches, and transversii ventralis muscles. During the endogenous feeding (yolk-sac) stage, viscerocranial structures remain simple and nonarticulated. Six days after hatching at 5°C, articulation occurs between the quadrate/Meckel's cartilage and the hyomandibula/cranium. Integration of skeletal elements results in a functional jaw that facilitates the transition from endogenous to exogenous feeding. During later ontogenetic stages, the opercular apparatus and levator-operculi coupling develops, facilitating the transition of cutaneous to branchial respiration. Overall, feeding and respiratory needs are met by changes in form (including composition) and function during larval fish growth and are correlated with demands of energy acquisition essential to survival. © 1996 Wiley-Liss, Inc. 相似文献

Summary The morphology and fine structure of the vibratile anterior dorsal fin of the rockling Gaidropsarus mediterraneus are described. 60–80 fin rays project as a fringe from a reduced fin web; their lateral movement maintains the fin in almost constant rapid undulation, at a frequency of 3–4 beats per second. The fin can be laid back and with-drawn into a groove. Erector and depressor muscles, which are histologically distinct, move each ray. The fin support is modified, incorporating elastic cartilage, and enclosed in a capsule of collagenous connective tissue. The epidermis at the frontal and caudal aspect of each ray contains numerous receptor cells, over 100,000 per mm2, which have an apical microvillus and synaptic connections with nerve fibres. The recurrent facial nerve sends a major branch to the dorsal fins, which is joined by dorsal ramuli of spinal nerves. It is calculated that there are three to six million receptor cells on the vibratile fin and in the epidermis of the dorsal groove, in individuals of average size. Taste buds do not occur in the skin of the groove, contrary to a previous report, nor on the vibratile fin rays, although they are present on the prominent most anterior fin ray and elsewhere on the fins and barbels. The undulatory motion of the fin draws sea water towards and through the vibratile rays and backwards as a perceptible current. The fin constitutes a specific sensory organ, a water sampler, peculiar to this rockling and related species.Abbrevations used in figures a aperture - am axial muscles - bl base of lepidotrichion - cc collagenous capsule - dlc dorsal longitudinal canal - dr distal radial - drs dorsal ramulus of a spinal nerve - e epidermal cell(s) - ec elastic cartilage - en extracapsular branch of the recurrent facial nerve - fm fin membrane - fr fin ray - frn fin ray nerve - in intracapsular branches of the recurrent facial nerve - l lepidotrichia - n nerve plexus - ns neural spine - pr proximal radial - rc receptor cell(s) - rdm radial depressor muscle - rem radial erector muscle - s scales - t tendonsDedicated to Professor Konrad Lorenz on the occasion of his 80th birthday 相似文献

The morphological and histological characters of the neurohaemal organ (sinus gland) of Portunus sanguinolentus are described in detail. The sinus gland lies on the dorsal surface of the optic ganglia, opposite the medulla interna. Histological techniques showed the presence of three tinctorially different secretory granules in the sinus gland. The predominant type of secretory material is basophilic and occurs as large granules, while two types of acidophilic material occur near the basement membrane. Cyclic changes in the relative amounts of acidophilic and basophilic material in correlation to moulting are also discussed. Allochthonous cells present in the sinus gland are identified. 相似文献

Fishelson, L., Golani, D., Russell, B., Galil, B. and Goren, M. 2012. Comparative morphology and cytology of the alimentary tract in lizardfishes (Teleostei, Aulopiformes, Synodontidae). —Acta Zoologica (Stockholm) 93 : 308–318. This study compares the morphology and cytology of the alimentary tract in several species of lizardfishes (Synodontidae, Teleostei) of the genera Saurida, Synodus, and Trachinocephalus, in relation to their diets and bathymetric distribution. All the studied species feature a large, pouch‐like stomach, with the intestine beginning at the stomach’s anterior apex, adjacent to the esophageal opening. In the more ‘microphagous’Synodus spp. and Trachinocephalus, the intestine bends twice before reaching the anus, whereas in the more ‘macrophagous’Saurida spp., the intestine extends straight to the anus. The species differ also in the number and form of their pyloric ceca, the length of the intestine and in the percentile relationship between stomach length and standard body length. Along the alimentary tract folds and villi protrude into the lumen, their numbers differing on various sites of the tract. Three cell types make up the gastric gland system: (1) pyramidal cells forming the tubular gastric glands in the lamina propria; among them are large, pale secretary cells; (2) groups of neck cells that surround the pits of the tubules; and (3) groups of large and granule‐rich cells at the end portion of the stomach. All species are carnivorous and uniform in morphology, the differences in the alimentary tract found between the more shallow‐water species of Synodus and Trachinocephalus, and the deeper‐dwelling Saurida, seem to be only partly correlated with the differences in diet. 相似文献

Digestive enzymes in the guts of Physailia pellucida, Eutropius niloticus and Schilbe mystus were investigated. Trypsin and Pepsin were present in all the three species. Pepsin activity was found to be higher than that of trypsin. Of all the carbohydrases, only amylase was found in E. niloticus and S. mystus, none in P. pellucida. There was no lipase activity in the three species. The enzymes were correlated with the food habits of the species. 相似文献

The alimentary tract of the desert millipede Orthoporus ornatus is essentially a straight tube consisting of a histologically distinct foregut, midgut, pylorus, hindgut, and rectum. Common to each region, but often different in regional appearance, are an outer sheath layer, longitudinal and circular muscle layers, a basement membrane, and an inner epithelial layer. Foregut and midgut lumina are lined by a cuticular intima, while a peritrophic membrane occurs in the midgut lumen. Gut structure is considered in the context of the known feeding habits and digestive efficiency of this long-lived, seasonally restricted detritivore. 相似文献

Morphology and fine structure of Barbus barbus L 1758 spermatozoa were studied using scanning (SEM) and transmission (TEM) electron microscopy. The results confirm that spermatozoa exhibit morphological features typical to all teleost fishes. They are differentiated into a head, a midpiece and a flagellum with the typical '9 + 2' pairs of microtubules. Both dynein arms are present in the flagellum. The spermatozoa have spherical nuclei, 4–6 mitochondria located in the postnuclear cytoplasmic region and centriolar complex (proximal and distal centrioles). Total length, head width, length of midpiece and length of flagellum were measured to be 56.35 ± 7.42, 1.80 ± 0.06, 0.48 ± 0.14 and 54.30 ± 6.97 μm, respectively. Highly significant linear correlation was observed between posterior and anterior width of midpiece (P < 0.01). Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to explore which parameters can explain the individual variation of sperm morphology. About 44% of the total accumulated variance was absorbed by the analysis of the two first components, distinguishing different groups of parameters related to head and midpiece. The lengths of flagellum and head are more isolated; indicating that the individual variation of sperm morphology depends on these two parameters. Comparing the results of this study with information on cyprinids spermatozoa reveals that the number of mitochondria and the length of the flagellum are good characters to characterize spermatozoa of the Cyprinidae in a phylogenetic arrangement. 相似文献

In the electric fishes Gymnarchus niloticus (Mormyriformes) and Electrophorus electricus (Gymnotoidei, Cypriniformes) the specific sensory organs have been counted on whole mounts of the skin. Their number exceeds that one which would fulfill the theoretical demands for a highly sensitive electro-receptor system. 相似文献
