Using agar gel électrophoresis, the number and relative mobility of seric protein fractions has been determined for twelve species of fishes belonging to the Elasmobranchii, Dipnoi and Actinopterygii.The study of relative mobilities has shown both similitudes and divergences between some of the proteinograms. Immunoelectrophoretic cross tests using the twelve sera and five antisera have shown that these similitudes did not result from protein homology and thus agar gel electrophoresis could not be used to determine phylogenetic relationships between the species considered.

The potential of calcium peroxide to act as an agent for waterblooming control was investigated by examining the growth inhibition ofMicrocystis aerusinosa. Due to the chemical nature of calcium peroxide, it can remove dissolved phosphate by forming an insoluble precipitate, generating radicals, coagulant, and oxygen as byproducts as it dissolves in water. The growth ofM. aerusinosa was severely inhibited and the chlorophyll-a concentration was drastically decreased in the presence of calcium peroxide. With 200 ppm of calcium peroxide dosage, a chlorophyll-a concentration of 1,700 mg/m3 was lowered to below 10% of its initial concentration after 4 days. One possible explanation for this growth inhibition is the removal of the available phosphate by calcium peroxide.  相似文献

Oscillatoria limnetica grown photoautotrophically under aerobic or anaerobic conditions contained a single superoxide dismutase (SOD) of identical electrophoretic mobility in both cases. Its activity was cyanide resistant and H2O2 sensitive, implicating Fe-SOD. The enzyme level was high in aerobically and low in anaerobically growing cells. The performance ofNodularia harveyana, a N2-fixing cyanobacterium isolated from seawater, has been studied outdoors in two different culture systems: open pond (OP) and tubular photobioreactor (TPR). The productivity in both devices was influenced by areal density. The maximum yield obtained was 12.0 g (d.wt) m–2 day–1 in OP and 14.0 g (d.wt) m–2 day–1 in TPR in August, corresponding to the highest solar radiation received. In a month-long experiment with the cyanobacterium cultivated in TPR at high circulation speed, a net increase in productivity was obtained over that at low circulation speed. The influence of temperature on the productivity of the cultures grown in open ponds and tubular photobioreactors has been investigated. The higher productivity obtained in TPR compared to OP was attributed to its better controlled temperature conditions. In outdoor culture the maximum nitrogenase activity did not coincide with the maximum light intensity, but occurred in early afternoon. The amount of carbohydrate accumulated during the day probably influenced the rate of dark nitrogenase activity and its duration in the night.  相似文献

The relative permittivity and conductivity of rabbit eye lens were measured in the frequency domain between 2 and 18 GHz at temperatures of 37 and 20°C. An analysis of the data suggested that a significant proportion of the bulk water in nuclear and cortical lens tissue may behave differently to pure water. In addition, the Maxwell-Fricke mixture theory was used to estimate the amount of hydrated water that relaxes far below 1 GHz.  相似文献

Abstract.The UV-screening pigment scytonemin is found in many species of ensheathed cyanobacteria. Past work has shown that the pigment is synthesized in response to exposure to UV-A irradiance. This study investigated the effect of other correlated stress factors including heat, osmotic and oxidative stress on the synthesis of scytonemin in a clonal cyanobacterial isolate ( Chroococcidiopsis sp.) from an epilithic desert crust. Stress experiments were carried out both in conjunction with UV-A irradiance and in isolation. Increases in both temperature and photooxidative conditions in conjunction with UV-A caused a synergistic increase in the rate of scytonemin production. In contrast, increased salt concentration under UV-A irradiance inhibited scytonemin synthesis. However, unlike the responses to temperature and oxidative stress, cells synthesized low levels of scytonemin under osmotic stress in the absence of scytonemin-inducing irradiance. These results suggest that scytonemin induction may be regulated as a part of a complex stress response pathway in which multiple environmental signals affect its synthesis.  相似文献

Effects of two intensities (1 and 5 W?m?2) of UV-B radiation on the synthesis of UV-absorbing compounds in a terrestrial cyanobacterium Nostoc flagelliforme were investigated. UV-B radiation resulted in lower biomass. Short period (less than 12 h) of UV-B radiation caused an increase of chlorophyll a content, but subsequent duration of treatment (more than 24 h) resulted in a rapid decrease. N. flagelliforme synthesized UV-absorbing compounds such as scytonemin and mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs) in response to UV-B radiation. Upon 48 h of exposure to UV-B radiation, scytonemin content in cells increased by 103.8 and 164.0 % at 1 and 5 W?m?2, respectively. Oligosaccharide-linked mycosporine-like amino acids increased by 145.5 % after 12 h at 5 W?m?2 and 114.5 % after 48 h at 1 W?m?2 UV-B radiation. HPLC analysis showed that nine MAAs existed in N. flagelliforme cells both from liquid suspension culture and field colony. But the concentration and kinds of them were different. At the two distinct levels of UV-B radiation, the content of particular MAAs increased, declined, or remained unchanged. Moreover, the appearance of two new MAAs was observed.  相似文献

Aqueous solutions of oligopolymer DNA have been observed by Edwards, Davis, Swicord & Saffer to show structured absorption of microwave energy in the region of several gigahertz characteristic of an ordered series of compressional normal mode vibrations propagating on the polymer chain. Hydrodynamic coupling of such vibrations to the surrounding solvent would preclude the existence of sharp resonances. The inclusion of electromagnetic interactions with surrounding counter ions yields a richer space of possibilities for complex behavior of the combined system. A well defined resonant absorption peak appears when the molecular motion and the nearby solvent motion are even slightly decoupled. The microwave electric fields in the vicinity of the molecule provide a mechanism for such a decoupling not present for the case of electrically neutral solvent.  相似文献

The dielectric response of human umbilical cord hyaluronic acid in various environments has been studied at microwave frquencies using a resonant microwave cavity as a probe. Both the real and imaginary parts of complex dielectric constant and the loss tangent for hyaluronate solutions are obtained by utilizing equations for perturbation of a resonant cavity. Dielectric changes at room temperature have been observed in aqueous solutions of hyaluronic acid as a function of concentration ranging from 0 to 350 mg/ml. The data indicate the existence of ordered phases in hyaluronate solutions at selective concentrations, that is, exhibiting lyotropic-type transitions. Hyaluronate solutions at 1.5 and 3 mg/ml concentrations have been studied at various pH in the range of 6–8 and at constant ionic strength 0.1. A temperature-dependent transition in hyaluronate solution of 120 mg/ml concentration has been observed at physiological temperature. It is shown that this temperature-dependent behavior can be related to the orientational polarizability term in the Debye theory of polar molecules in liquids.  相似文献

The effect of microwave radiation on a complex plasma produced by an external ionizer is studied using numerical simulations. It is shown that, as the radiation intensity increases, the scattering of the incident radiation by charged metal grains is enhanced and radiation at the second harmonic of the incident radiation appears in the scattered spectrum. This effect is associated with the grain charge oscillations caused by the nonlinear action of the microwave field. It is found that, under the action of strong microwave radiation, the grain charge can increase by one order of magnitude. It is shown that, when the microwave intensity is high enough, the distribution of the electric field near a dust grain is shown to change so radically that the field component normal to the grain surface can even change its sign.  相似文献

The complex permittivity of aqueous solutions at 20 degrees C has been measured at concentrations between 0.001 and 5 mol/L and over a frequency range 0.13-20 GHz. The results were combined with literature values to derive empirical equations to predict the dielectric behavior of sodium chloride solutions between 0 and 5 mol/L and 5 degrees C-35 degrees C.  相似文献

在秋菊“金皇后”品种的营养生长期和绿蕾期 ,以一定浓度 ( 1 0mg/L、2 0mg/L和 5 0mg/L)的KT水溶液进行喷雾处理 ,初步研究了KT对菊花绿蕾期叶片和花期花瓣生理生化以及对开花时间、花期长短的影响。结果表明 ,KT处理使菊花绿蕾期叶片叶绿素总含量、还原性总糖 /可溶性蛋白、干重 /鲜重、表观光合速率和呼吸速率均明显高于对照 ;花时比对照提早 1 7.1d ,绿蕾期持续时间缩短 41 .5 0 % ;花期花瓣组织电解质渗漏率低于对照 ,花期持续时间延长 8d ,延长率为 3 1 .3 7%。其中 2 0mg/LKT处理效果最好  相似文献

Argemone mexicana L. is a widely used plant in Mexican traditional medicine to treat inflammatory and nervous medical conditions. It has been subjected to several pharmacological and chemical studies in which acute anti-inflammatory activity is indicated. This work aimed at finding an extract and fraction with anti-inflammatory activity by means of 2-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA)-induced auricular edema. Afterward, the extract and the fraction were tested on neuroinflammation caused by lipopolysaccharides (LPS). Treatments obtained from A. mexicana included the methanolic extract (AmMeOH), a fraction extracted with ethyl acetate (AmAcOEt), and four sub-fractions (AmF-1 to AmF-4), which were evaluated in auricular edema with the TPA assay. Both treatments with the most significant inhibitory effect were employed to test these in the LPS neuroinflammation model. AmAcOEt and AmF-3 induced a higher inhibition of edema (%), and both diminished ear inflammation when viewed under a microscope. These treatments also raised an increase in spleen, but not in brain of mice with neuroinflammation. They were able to decrease the concentration of proinflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6) in both organs. Furthermore, the accumulation of amyloid-β (Aβ) in hippocampus was not visible. AmF-3 contains the flavonoids isoquercetin, luteolin, and rutin, the former being the most concentrated.  相似文献

Three acidic unsaponifiable lipid fractions were isolated by chromatographic methods from sandfly vector stages (promastigotes) of a protozoan parasite of man, Leishmania mexicana mexicana, cultured in vitro. Fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry, fast atom bombardment collision induced tandem mass spectrometry and metabolic labeling were used to characterize these lipids as di-O-alkylphosphatidyl-inositols, lyso-1-O-alkylphosphatidylinositols and inositol phosphosphingolipids. Molecular species of the dialkyl forms, new to natural product biochemistry, had a 20:0 substituent and either 17:1 or 18:1. The monoalkyl forms had either 17:0 or 18:0. The predominant ceramide had the 16:1 base and the lesser component the 16:0 base. In both, the N-acyl group was 18:0.  相似文献

Synechococcus sp. strain SH-94-5 is a nitrate assimilation-deficient cyanobacterium which was isolated from an ammonium-replete hot spring in central Oregon. While this clone could grow on ammonium and some forms of organic nitrogen as sole nitrogen sources, it could not grow on either nitrate or nitrite, even under conditions favoring passive diffusion. It was determined that this clone does not express functional nitrate reductase or nitrite reductase and that the lack of activity of either enzyme is not due to inactivation of the cyanobacterial nitrogen control protein NtcA. A few other naturally occurring cyanobacterial strains are also nitrate assimilation deficient, and phylogenetic analyses indicated that the ability to utilize nitrate has been independently lost at least four times during the evolutionary history of the cyanobacteria. This phenotype is associated with the presence of environmental ammonium, a negative regulator of nitrate assimilation gene expression, which may indicate that natural selection to maintain functional copies of nitrate assimilation genes has been relaxed in these habitats. These results suggest how the evolutionary fates of conditionally expressed genes might differ between environments and thereby effect ecological divergence and biogeographical structure in the microbial world.  相似文献

Dielectric constant and loss factor of Raj-4120 variety of Indian wheat were determined in powder form (grain size 125 to 150 micron) at room temperature. Microwaves at three different frequencies were employed in C-band, X-band and Ku-band respectively for investigating frequency dependence of dielectric parameters of the sample. Bulk dielectric values of the sample were determined by employing the dielectric mixture relations, such as, half power mixture equation, Landau and Lifshitz, Looyenga equation etc.  相似文献

A mechanical grooming test was performed on large scale steel test panels coated with a fouling-release (FR) coating (International Intersleek 900), at four different frequencies, during the high fouling season in Port Canaveral, Florida. Grooming at frequencies of three or two times per week was effective at removing heavy biofilm growth and significantly reduced macrofouling settlement. Mechanical grooming at lower frequencies of weekly or bi-weekly removed heavy biofilm growth but was much less effective at reducing macrofouling settlement. The results indicated that frequent mechanical grooming could reduce the fouling rating of ships coated with FR coatings. The reduction in the fouling rating of ships’ hulls by frequent grooming could offer significant reductions in drag, fuel consumption, and the emission of exhaust gases. Frequent grooming could also eliminate the need for hull cleaning and increase the time between dry docking which would reduce the operational costs for many vessel operators.  相似文献

A simple calculation of the current dipole moment of the extracellular electric field of the cortex is proposed; it is based on the dipole layer model. The model is extended to the range of microwave frequencies. Arguments in favor of emission of microwave radiation by the dendritic membranes of pyramidal neurons are presented and the strength of the radiative electric field at a distance from the head is calculated and discussed.  相似文献
