In addition to maintaining the GenBank nucleic acid sequence database, the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) provides data analysis and retrieval resources that operate on the data in GenBank and a variety of other biological data made available through NCBI's Web site. NCBI data retrieval resources include Entrez, PubMed, LocusLink and the Taxonomy Browser. Data analysis resources include BLAST, Electronic PCR, OrfFinder, RefSeq, UniGene, HomoloGene, Database of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (dbSNP), Human Genome Sequencing, Human MapViewer, GeneMap'99, Human-Mouse Homology Map, Cancer Chromosome Aberration Project (CCAP), Entrez Genomes, Clusters of Orthologous Groups (COGs) database, Retroviral Genotyping Tools, Cancer Genome Anatomy Project (CGAP), SAGEmap, Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO), Online Mendelian Inheri-tance in Man (OMIM), the Molecular Modeling Database (MMDB) and the Conserved Domain Database (CDD). Augmenting many of the Web applications are custom implementations of the BLAST program optimized to search specialized data sets. All of the resources can be accessed through the NCBI home page at: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih. gov. 相似文献

Background
There is an increasing number of complete and incomplete virus genome sequences available in public databases. This large body of sequence data harbors information about epidemiology, phylogeny, and virulence. Several specialized databases, such as the NCBI Influenza Virus Resource or the Los Alamos HIV database, offer sophisticated query interfaces along with integrated exploratory data analysis tools for individual virus species to facilitate extracting this information. Thus far, there has not been a comprehensive database for dengue virus, a significant public health threat. 相似文献6.

Giving land an ecological value is a problem in many student projects. This paper suggests a method which is suitable for a range of abilities Any methods used by students for evaluating the ecological or conservation value of an area under study need to be relatively simple, as it is unlikely that they will have a specialist knowledge of ecology. The most frequently used criteria in site evaluation are difficult to apply at secondary education level, and a method has been developed which relies only on recognition of major habitat types and landscape features. The example used is a comparison of two possible sites for location of a sewage treatment works, and a ‘total ecological score’ is obtained for each site. This can then be used to calculate possible ‘units of ecological damage’ in the event of a development on the land. Damage can also be categorized as reversible or irreversible to allow for reinstatement and mitigation work. Students can then incorporate these estimates as part of a wider impact analysis and decision-making process and the methods can be applied to any development.
