The stomach contents of fish <100 mm standard length (SL)and fish >100 mm SL collected during June and October intwo deep basins on the Scotian Shelf, showed that juvenile co(and silver hake fed primarily on the two most abundant speciesof zooplankton in the basins: Calanus finmarchicus and Meganyctiphanesnorvegica. These zooplankton were abundant in the basin: duringthe 2 months, forming high concentrations at depths below 200m during the day. In June fish (<100 mm SL) concentratedin the upper 50 m during both day and night. Cod and wolffislcollected between 195 and 240 m had a large percentage of C.finmarchicusin their stomachs suggesting that these fish exploited the highconcentrations of C.finmarchicus below 200 m depth There wasno evidence that Calanus hyperboreus was eaten by any juvenilefish species. Calanus finmarchicus was the most common preyof cod feeding in the top 50 m, but the percentages o C.finmarchicusstages IV and V were lower in the stomachs than in the watercolumn. Cod showed ; strong preference for M.norvegica, withthis prey species having a modified Ivlev's index of 1 indicatingthat cod were highly selective for this species. There was noevidence that C.hyperboreus. stage IV was eaten by any of thespecies offish. Silver hake and dogfish (>100 mm SL) bothfeed oi M.norvegica and C.finmarchicus in the deep regions ofthe basins. In October, silver hake was the most common juvenilefish in the basins, feeding primarily on small stages of M.norvegica.The populations of fish (>100 mm SL) in the basins were mainlyspecies known to feed heavily or euphausiids. The two basinsare unique regions of the shelf because of the large populationsof Calanus copepods and M.norvegica they contain all the yeararound, thereby providing an atrractive feeding ground for manyspecies of fish, particularly silver hake.  相似文献

The electron transfer activity of an aa3-type two-subunit cytochromec oxidase of Nitrobacter agilis was inhibited by DCCD. Althoughthe activity of the purified cytochrome c oxidase dissolvedin 1% Triton X- 100 was not affected by DCCD even at a ratioof 1,000 mol DCCD per mol cytochrome aa3, the activity of theenzyme dissolved in 0.02% Tween 20 or 0.02% Triton X-100 wasinhibited by 60% or more at a ratio of 1,000 mol DCCD per molcytochrome aa3. The results of SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoresisof the enzyme incubated with DCCD suggested that subunit IImight be a binding site for DCCD. Effects of irradiance on changes in the amounts of chlorophyll(Chl) and light-harvesting chlorophyll a/b protein of PS II(LHCII) were examined in senescing leaves of rice (Oryza sativaL.). Results of treatments at two irradiances (100% and 20%natural sunlight) were examined after the full expansion ofthe 13th leaf throughout the course of senescence. With 20%sunlight, the Chl content decreased only a little during leafsenescence, while with 100% sunlight it decreased appreciably.Similarly, the amount of LHCII protein during treatment with20% sunlight remained almost constant. However, the ratio ofChl a/b during the shade treatment decreased significantly andthe rate of decrease was greater than during the full-sunlighttreatment. The ratio of Chl a/b for Chl a and b bound to LHCIIwas about 1.2, irrespective of leaf age or irradiance treatment.When the amounts of Chl bound to LHCII were calculated fromthe total leaf content of Chl and the ratio of Chl a/b, assuminga ratio of Chl a/b bound to LHCII of 1.2, they were well correlatedwith the amounts of LHCII protein. Changes in the amounts of LHCII synthesized during the two irradiancetreatments were examined using an 15 tracer. Incorporation of15N into LHCII declined dramatically during both treatmentsfrom full expansion through senescence, suggesting that therewas little synthesis of LHCII protein during that time. In addition,the amount of LHCII synthesized during senescence was lowerduring the shade treatment than during the 100% sunlight treatment.These results indicate that the absence of an apparent changein levels of LHCII with shade treatment during senescence wascaused by the very low rate of turnover of LHCII protein. 在塔城麦田调查发现,麦双尾蚜Diuraphis noxia (Mordvilko) 在春小麦和野生寄主上的百株蚜量从大到小依次为春小麦、黑麦和野燕麦,在春小麦上最早出现高峰期。在春小麦上,瓢虫类数量最多达到516头/百株,菜蚜茧蜂Diaeretiella rapae和白足蚜小蜂Aphelinus albipodus的最高寄生率分别达到31.6%和12.9%。在黑麦上,麦双尾蚜主要被白足蚜小蜂寄生,最高寄生率达到42.9%,斑腹蝇幼虫Leucopis annulipes最高达到16头/百株。在野燕麦上,白足蚜小蜂和菜蚜茧蜂最高寄生率分别达到62.3%和31.8%。瓢虫和菜蚜茧蜂发生较早,白足蚜小蜂和斑腹蝇发生时间相对较晚。  相似文献

A method for quantifying changes in the cell population of Pisumsativum cotyledons during development is described. The methodis based on determining the frequency distribution for cellarea following the random sampling of a single-cell suspensionof cotyledon cells. The population profile of these cells changedprogressively and systematically from a single population, similarin size to meristematic cells, found in embryos less than 3.0mg in fresh weight, to a bimodal population in embryos greaterthan 100 mg fresh weight. This method was used to compare embryosof similar size from two genotypes near-isogenic except forgenes at the r locus. No significant differences were foundbetween the cell population profiles of embryos up to 30 mgfresh weight. However, a significant difference was found betweenembryos with fresh weights of 100 mg, the wrinkled (rr) linehaving a higher mean and maximum cell area (2 951 µm2and 9 240 µm2 respectively) than the round (RR) line (2591µm2and 6470 µm2respectively). Comparisons were alsomade between cotyledon cell populations from round (RR) embryosgrown in vivo and in vitro. The most obvious differences werethe higher mean and maximum cell size of the large cell populationof in vitro grown embryos which were twice those found in vivo.Embryos grown to either 30 mg or 100 mg fresh weight in vitrohad a much greater proportion of large cells in the populationwith a corresponding reduction in total cotyledon cell number,compared with similar sized embryos grown in vivo. These data suggest that comparisons between different genotypes,or, between cultured and in vivoembryos, based on morphologicalsimilarities between embryos, may be invalid and subject tomisinterpretation. 水稻叶片在遭受害虫的危害时,释放一些特异性的挥发性物质。这些挥发性信息物质在调节植物、植食性昆虫及其天敌的相互关系中有重要作用。利用“Y”型嗅觉仪研究了褐飞虱对虫害诱导的11种水稻挥发物(浓度为2 Μl 化合物溶解在100 Μl丙酮溶液中)的行为反应。结果表明,(E)-2-己烯醛、(E)-2-己烯-1-醇、-2-庚醇和水杨酸甲酯等4种化合物对褐飞虱成虫有显著的驱避作用,而(Z)-3-己烯-1-醇、-2-庚酮、柠檬烯、罗勒烯、芳樟醇、-β-子丁香烯和橙花叔醇等7种物质对褐飞虱成虫的选择行为无显著影响。浓度梯度的实验表明,浓度(不同体积的待测化合物用100 Μl丙酮稀释)较低的(E)-2-己烯醛(0.5 Μl、1 Μl)和芳樟醇(05 Μl、1 Μl、5 Μl)对褐飞虱成虫的选择行为无显著影响,而较高浓度的(E)-2-己烯醛(5 Μl、10 Μl)和芳樟醇(10 Μl)对褐飞虱成虫均有明显的驱避作用。  相似文献

The goal of this study was to quantify periods of activity andvelocities of late naupliar and early copepodid stages of planktoniccopepods occurring regularly on the southeastern continentalshelf of the USA. We obtained quantitative information on eightspecies, including adult females of Oithona plumifera. All studieswere conducted at food concentrations near or above satiationlevels. Activities ranged from 0.85% (adult females of O.plumifera)to 100% of time (nauplii and copepodids of various calanoidspecies). Motion velocities (excluding escape motion) coveredmore than one order of magnitude: from 0.39 mm s–1 fornauplii of Temora stylifera to 5.24 mm s–1 for naupliiof Oncaea mediterranea. Ranges of activities of species rangefrom occasional for early juveniles to adult females of O.plumiferato 100% for the same range of T.stylifera, the latter creatinga feeding current from N III onwards, the former not at all.Of notable interest is Centropages velificatus which moves intermittentlyas a late nauplius, continuously as an early copepodid and intermittentlyas an adult. All observed calanoid late nauplii and copepodidsmove in three dimensions, excluding copepodids of the shelfbreak/oceanicParacalanus aculeatus. The results indicate not only significantdifferences in motion behavior between cyclopoids and calanoids,but also between calanoid species. Purified chromatophore membranes and spheroplast membrane vesicleswere prepared from Rhodopseudomonas sphaeroides by the methodof Michels and Konings (1978). The cytochrome c oxidase activityof the spheroplast membrane vesicles was about 15-fold higheron a bacteriochlorophyll basis than that of the chromatophoremembranes. The cytochrome c oxidase activity of the chromatophoremembranes was greatly stimulated (about 10-fold) by an additionof Triton X-100 (0.1%), but there was less stimulated (about1.5-fold) in the case of spheroplasts. The pH optimum of theoxidase activities of the spheroplast membrane vesicles andof chromatophore membranes treated with 0.1% Triton X-100, andthe salt dependencies of the activity of both preparations werethe same. These results show that the membrane-bound b-type cytochromeoxidase of this bacterium accepts electrons from ferrocytochromec on the periplasmic side of the membrane (on the outer surfaceof the spheroplast membrane vesicles). Aqueous foliar sprays of N-dimethylaminosuccinamic acid (daminozide)at 2000 p.p.m. and gibberellic acid (GA) at 100 p.p.m. wereapplied 45, 59, 82 and 100 days after sowing to Chantenay carrotswith population densities of 244, 495 and 883 plants m–2.The plants were harvested on ten approximately weekly occasions;fresh weights were determined and d. wt estimates were obtainedfor the separated shoots (s) and roots (r). Allometric linearregressions of the logarithm of s on that of r at each harvestseparately, clearly showed that GA always increased shoot: rootratio and reduced root yield (by approximately 35 per cent)but could sometimes also increase whole-plant weight. Daminozideincreased root yield (by approximately 7 per cent from 80 tonnesha–1) and tended to have effects opposite to those ofGA. Sideritis rodriguezii Borja is a natural hybrid between S.serrata Lag and S. bourgaeana Boiss. The hybrid index is usedto separate parentals, F1 hybrids and the individuals producedby back-crossing. Hybridization takes place in a hybrid zone100 m long 200 m wide. Two groups of hybrids were recorded,the first resembling S. bourgaeana and the second being morphologicallyintermediate between the parents. 植物性次生物质在植物-害虫的关系中起着非常重要的作用, 植物中的一些成分对害虫具有熏蒸、触杀和驱避等作用。水菖蒲Acorus calamus L.是一种常用中药, 它的主要杀虫活性成分为β-细辛醚。本研究通过室内生测试验研究了水菖蒲根茎提取物β-细辛醚对玉米象Sitophilus zeamais Motschulsky、谷蠹Rhyzopertha dominica (Fabricius)、赤拟谷盗Tribolium castaneum (Herbst)和四纹豆象Callosobruchus maculatus (Fabricius) 4种储粮害虫的熏蒸击倒和致死作用。结果表明: β-细辛醚对4种试虫的熏蒸击倒和致死作用明显。以50 μL/L的浓度处理120 h后, 对玉米象、谷蠹和四纹豆象的击倒作用均达到100%, 而对赤拟谷盗击倒率为50%; 玉米象、谷蠹和四纹豆象的死亡率分别为81.23%, 97.78%和100%, 而赤拟谷盗死亡率仅为8.89%。处理24 h, β-细辛醚对玉米象、谷蠹、赤拟谷盗和四纹豆象的KC50分别为49.38, 102.96, 124.04和1.07 μL/L; 处理120 h, β-细辛醚对玉米象、谷蠹、赤拟谷盗和四纹豆象的LC50分别为17.82, 4.42, 116.48和0.73 μL/L。结果显示水菖蒲根茎提取物β-细辛醚对4种储粮害虫均具有明显的熏蒸效果, 具有开发为储粮害虫熏蒸剂的潜力。  相似文献

Inorganic cation concentrations were measured in shoots of hexaploidbread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and its presumed ancestorsgrown at 100 mol m–3 external NaCl. Aegilops squarrosaand T. aestivum had high K/Na ratios while T. dicoccoides andAe. speltoides had low K/Na ratios. T. monococcum although havinga high K/Na ratio, had the highest total salt load of the fivespecies tested. The effect of the D genome (from Ae. squarrosa)was further investigated in seedlings of synthetic hexaploidwheats, and was again found to improve cation selectivity. Differentresponses were obtained from root and shoot tissue in this experiment.One synthetic hexaploid and its constituent parents were grownto maturity at 100 mol m-3 NaCl and the yields recorded. Despitecomplications due to increased tillering in the stressed hexaploid,it was possible to show that the addition of the D genome enhancedyield characteristics in the hexaploid wheat. An experimentwith synthetic hexaploids derived from the tetraploid wheatvariety "Langdon" and several Ae. squarrosa accessions revealeddifferences in vegetative growth rates between the differentsynthetic hexaploids in the presence or absence of 150 or 200mol m–3 external NaCl. The possibility of transferringsalt tolerance genes from Ae. squarrosa to hexaploid wheat usingsynthetic hexaploids as bridging species is discussed. The intracellular distribution of NADPH- and NADH-dependentduroquinone reductase (NAD (P)H-DQR) from etiolated zucchinihypocotyls (Cucurbita pepo L.) was investigated. About 80% ofthis enzyme is in the supernatant fraction and is probably cytosolic.Particulate NAD (P)H-DQR was largely (42%) found in associationwith the plasma membrane and was strongly stimulated by TX100.Another 33% of NAD (P)H-DQR was associated with mitochondria,and minor fractions with the endoplasmic reticulum (8%) andother particles. All these fractions were little or not stimulatedby TX100. The distribution of detergent-activated NAD (P)H-DQRis thus distinct from microsomal NADH- and NADPH-CCR. The plasma membrane was purified from microsomal fractions bymetrizamide plus sucrose density gradient centrifugation orby PEG/dextran phase partitioning. Both types of particle preparationspeaked at a density (d) of 1.165 g cm–3 in sucrose gradientsand contained substantial TX100-sensitive NADH-DQR, TX100-stimulatedNAD (P)H-DQR, together with traces of NADH-CCR and trapped ‘soluble’enzyme (MDH, NADP-malic enzyme) activities. In isopycnic gradientsof unfractionated microsomes, however, trapped enzymes peakedat d 1.155 whereas NAD (P)H-DQR peaked at d 1.165 and GSII atd 1.170, probably revealing plasma membrane heterogeneity. Furtherevidence of heterogeneity was provided by fractionation of plasmamembrane vesicles on dextran step-gradients. Most of the trapped MDH was released to the supernatant by sonicationor treatment with 0.0125% TX100. Under these conditions mostof the NAD (P)H-DQR sedimented with the membranes. It is concludedthat NAD (P)H-DQR is bound to the inside of plasma membranevesicles, but a fraction (7 to 31%) may be ‘soluble’and sequestered within the vesicle lumen. Anthers of Allium cepa and Rhoeo discolor, excised at leptotene-zygoteneand diplotene-diakinesis, have been cultured in modified White'smedium supplemented with different concentrations of ribonucleicacid and desoxyribonucleic acid. The best development was obtainedwith ribonucleric acid in which there was a 100 per cent. survivalof the microspore mother cells up to the formation of 1-celledmicrospores. In R. discolor, the time taken by the microsporemother cells to form tetrads in vitri was half of that requiredin nature. All attempts to induce division of the microsporenucleus in vitro failed.  相似文献

The forest herb Erythronium americanum was collected from threeNew Jersey habitats and grown in 100%, 43%, or 23% glasshouselight to determine if biomass allocation responses to irradiancediffered between populations. Shaded plants had longer petioles,produced fewer runners, and had greater specific leaf areasthan unshaded plants; these responses did not differ significantlyamong populations. All populations produced smaller bulbs whengrown in shade. Over all light treatments, mean leaf area ofplants from a stable, established site was greater than thatof plants from others. In 100 % light, these plants had thegreater bulb growth. The simple architecture of Erythroniummay constrain morphological responses to the light environment.
